76-Year-Old Hubei Woman Admitted to Prison to Serve 3-Year Term for Her Faith

Nov. 4, 2025 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 76-year-old woman in Macheng City, Hubei Province, was recently admitted to the Hubei Province Women’s Prison (located in the capital city of Wuhan) to serve a three-year term because she practices Falun Gong.

Ms. Yan Qing’e was arrested on January 31, 2023, and released on bail hours later. She was sentenced to three years and fined 5,000 yuan on July 4, 2024, but her sentence was postponed due to unknown reasons.

The Macheng City Court garnished 4,900 yuan from Ms. Yan’s bank account to cover the cost of the court file. A widow who relied on a 280-yuan survivor benefit and a 140-yuan low income subsidy every month to get by, Ms. Yuan was left with only 12 yuan in her account.

When they learned what happened to Ms. Yuan, local residents were shocked that the communist regime would sentence an elderly woman and seize her meager savings simply because she practices Falun Gong.

The court recently ordered Ms. Yan to be taken back into custody to start serving her sentence. The exact time of her prison admission is unclear.
