CHICAGO (FDI) - On July 2, Xinhua News Agency reported in Wenzhou City in Zhenjiang province "16 Beggars Poisoned: the Suspect is a Falun Gong Member." However, the Xinhua account is contradicted by the first report on this story in a local newspaper. A follow-up investigation uncovered more discrepancies and demonstrated there was no connection between the alleged murder cases and Falun Gong.

May 20, 2003 was about the time when SARS was wildly spreading in China. The Jiang regime's effort to cover up the epidemic allowed this fatal disease to spread around the world. It was also a busy farming season. Due to drought, farmers were extremely busy. The police, however, still targeted Falun Dafa practitioners and their families in the rural areas for persecution.

After the news that Falun Dafa practitioner Chen Duo was beaten to death by the Tuopu Detention Center (i.e., Shantou City Detention Center) appeared on Clearwisdom.net (please see "Dafa Practitioner Chen Duo from Guangdong Province Beaten to Death By Police" at http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2003/6/16/37019.html), the responsible government branches and officials have done nothing to punish the murderers. On the contrary, they threatened and harassed Chen's family members by admitting, "Your husband was killed by us for practicing Falun Gong. We have gone to a lot of trouble in meeting quota [the given quota of killing Falun Gong practitioners]. How dare you to speak out?! You want to be killed!?" After Chen died, Shantou City experienced thunderstorms for a whole week.
