Nine Falun Dafa practitioners were unlawfully put on trial in Courtroom Number 6 of Beijing's No. 2 Intermediate Court located on Fangzhuang Road in Fengtai District at 9:30 a.m. on February 19, 2004. The nine practitioners included Guo Weimin, Wang Yi, Dan Ling, Jin Yuantao, Zhang Zhenzhong, Li Hai, Xu Ruohui, and Bai Lili. The entire trial was a sham and conducted in secret. The defense attorneys, who were designated by the Ruling Party, did not arrive to defend their clients. Instead they showed up to cooperate with the judge in framing the Falun Dafa practitioners. Sentencing was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2004, in Courtroom Number 1 of the same court.

Zhang Lin has been unlawfully sentenced to twelve years in prison and Zhao Qingshan to eleven years for producing materials that revealed the facts about the persecution of Falun Dafa.

Wu Chunjie and Wang Yunping have each been unlawfully sentenced to ten-year prison terms for producing truth-clarifying materials.

Both Li Shuxiang and Li Yanpei have been unlawfully sentenced to seven years in prison for producing truth-clarifying materials.

The practitioner "Xiaomei" mentioned in this article is Ms. Liu Lan, who graduated from the Aerospace Industrial University in Beijing. Because of orders by special agents, the Fengtai District State Security Division unlawfully arrested Ms. Liu on October 29, 2002. She was first sent to the brainwashing center for several weeks before being transferred to the Fengtai District Detention Center in Beijing.

4. [Fuyuan County, Heilongjiang Province] Falun Dafa Practitioner Dai Zhong Arbitrarily Arrested Again by the Police

Dai Zhong is a Falun Dafa practitioner in Hanconggou Township, Fuyuan County, Heilongjiang Province. On January 20, Dai was carried home in critical condition with injuries from the police brutality he received in the Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp. The authorities there were afraid to take responsibility should he die in their custody. Although Dai's condition has not appreciably improved, he was taken back to the Jiamusi Forced Labor camp a few days ago. [Note: It is likely that the authorities there received permission to include his possible death as part of the quota they receive for Falun Gong deaths by torture. The authorities would not want his body to remain outside the labor camp to provide evidence for the crimes they have committed. When Falun Gong practitioners die in the labor camps from torture, the authorities have orders to label the death as from natural causes and cremate the body immediately without notifying the family]

Mr. Xie Xingkai is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Yanting, Sichuan Province. He was unlawfully sentenced to one year of forced labor after going to Tiananmen Square in 2001. After he was released, he was detained for several months for clarifying the truth. He suffered from brutal beatings until relatives posted his bail. Mr. Xie continued to study Falun Dafa, clarify the truth of the persecution to the public, and organized other practitioners to study Falun Dafa together, to distribute materials to the public, and even to hold a small-scale Fa-conference. Today's illegal arrest is his third.

Ms. Ma Shaofang is a Falun Dafa practitioner in Nanning City, Guangxi Province. She went to a printer to make 300 copies of a Chinese poem entitled "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance." Ms. Ma was abducted while distributing the poems. Her home was ransacked and over 200 poems, some weekly online magazines from the Minghui website, and a personal computer were confiscated.

On February 19, 2004, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Wang Yan was at work in her own business, a barbershop. Suddenly several people arrived in a car and forcibly took Ms. Wang away. Her whereabouts remain unknown.

Mr. Liao Licai, 31, is from Ejing Village in Xinfeng Town, Guanghan, Sichuan Province. In December 2001, he went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing and was unlawfully detained for fifteen days before being returned to his hometown by the Xinfeng Police Station. He was also fined over 5,000 yuan. (The average monthly income of an urban worker is 500 yuan.) Later Mr. Liao was held in custody in the Guanghan Detention Center for 15 days.

On December 4, 2003, while Liao was working odd jobs at a construction site, seven officers from the Xinfeng Police Station showed up and dragged him into a police vehicle. His family went to the police station asking for his release, but the officers said, "There is nothing we can do. The order came from higher up, and Liao has already been sent to the brainwashing center."

Hao Yunshu is a Falun Dafa practitioner in Yilan County, Heilongjiang Province. On January 18, 2004, Hao went out to post flyers that revealed the facts of the persecution against Falun Dafa. He was captured by Li Jinsheng, Liu Jingwen and Gao Changjun, all from Jinzhutun in Ma'anshan Village, and taken to the home of Zhang Xin, the village Party Secretary. Zhang Xin in turn called the Gongkeli Town Police Station. Hao was placed under arrest and sent to the Yilan No. 2 Detention Center. He was recently transferred to the No. 1 Detention Center.

Li Furong and four other Falun Dafa practitioners of the Jixi Alkali Factory went to Heping to clarify the truth about the persecution of Falun Dafa last December. Leaders of the Heping militia team summarily arrested them without any charge. Two practitioners have been released and three others remain in custody at the Jixi No. 2 Detention Center.

On January 15, 2004, police officers rushed into the No. 9 Finished Products Factory of the Harbin Bearing Factory and forcibly took away Wang Yongbin and a female Falun Dafa practitioner. On January 7, 2004, the police also arrested Falun Dafa practitioner Zhao Ming at the factory. The outrageous charges against these practitioners include "refusing to write statements of guarantees" (renouncing Falun Dafa) and refusing to give up their belief. The practitioners have been sent to the Wuchang Brainwashing Center to be forced into renouncing their belief.

At the beginning of the Chinese lunar New Year in February, Tianjin Falun Dafa practitioner Geng Dong was unreasonably detained by the Gongbei Branch Police Department in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. Geng is being unlawfully held in the Zhuhai No. 1 Detention Center.

Geng formerly worked at a foreign owned company in Tianjin. After July 20, 1999, as Jiang's persecution against Falun Gong escalated, Geng was forced to quit his job and leave town, but he was arrested in Yunnan Province by police officers from Tianjin who had tracked him down. Geng was first held in the No. 1 Police Station in Tianjin, then sentenced to two years of forced labor and sent to the Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin. Geng was not released until mid-2003, six months after the expiration of his original two-year term.

After his release, Geng Dong found a job in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. On January 2, 2004, Geng Dong was again placed under arrest. Geng was alleged to have been taking pictures of what was going on inside a Brainwashing Center. Policemen from the Gongbei Branch Police Department unlawfully detained Geng.

On February 18, 2004, officers from the Jiangyuan County Forestry Bureau Police Station arrested Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Gong Qiumin at home. One of Ms. Gong's legs is disabled.

Only five or six days after Suizhong County Falun Dafa practitioners Huang Shujian, Ma Suyuan and Xiao Fengzhi were arrested by the county police, they were sentenced to forced labor and taken to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.

Before the Chinese lunar New Year's Day in February, Yanliang District Falun Dafa practitioners Wang Juan, Song Zhi, and Xu Wei were placed under arrest. Tan Dan, a collaborator who had betrayed her beliefs, turned them in to the police. Song Zhi had been unlawfully sentenced to two years of forced labor and walked away with honor and dignity. Wang Juan and Xu Wei had been sent to brainwashing sessions numerous times.

In the evening of February 12, 2004, an officer named Chen from the Wulihe Police Station first came to 41-year-old Li Xia's home for a talk. Ten minutes later, Liu Chen (pronunciation), Head of the Shenyang City "610 Office," and Zhao Hongtao, Head of the Shenhe District Branch Police Department, led twenty or so policemen to ransack her room. They confiscated portraits of Falun Dafa's founder, books, materials, her cellular phone, her address book, etc. They then started to take her into custody. Li resisted by holding onto the stair rail, but officers rushed to drag her away without giving her the opportunity to put on clothes or shoes. Ms. Li Xia is currently being held in the Shenyang City No. 4 Detention Center. Her family has been denied visits and could not even bring her clothes.

On February 12, 2004, Xichang City's State Security Brigade arrested Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Lin Shunhua, 57. Witnesses later recounted that a group of policemen broke into her home to place her under arrest. She kept proclaiming, "Falun Dafa is good" while trying to resist their illegal actions.

Since early January 2004, the "610 Office" and the State Security Brigade, which had been featured in materials that exposed the evil persecution, enacted harsh measures to retaliate. So far five elderly Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested, including Cheng Donglan, a retiree of the No. 410 factory, Cheng's husband Fang Zhengping (who has already been sentenced to one year of forced labor), Wei Yi on Hedong Street, Gao Deyu (62 years old) of the Construction Company, and Ms. Lin Shunhua, 57, who has retired from the Liangshan State Silkworm Farm.

On November 19, 2003, Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Li Xiaolin was arrested at work by the Erdao Branch Police Department in Changchun City. He was sent to the No. 7 Brigade of Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City. His wife has since been forced to stay away from home to avoid arrest. Their child is only fifteen years old and has no one to depend on.

After 7:00 p.m. on February 17, 2004, Falun Dafa practitioner Liu Yuzhi and her husband Cheng Shulin, both from Xihaikou Village in the Jinzhou City Development Zone, were arrested in their rented property. Officers who carried out the arrests include Qi, Head of the Tianqiao Police Station, Zhang Li, and Yin. The Jingye Police Station in Jinzhou City also participated in this case.

While officers were taking Liu away, Cheng argued with them and held Liu in his arms to take her out of the police vehicle. The police detained Cheng for15 days on grounds of obstruction of official business. The whereabouts of Liu and her husband are unknown.

Anshan City Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Liu Suzi has been unlawfully sentenced to five years in prison. She is being held in the Dabei Prison (also known as the Liaoning Provincial Women's Prison).

In June 2002, Yilan County Falun Dafa practitioner Li Jun went to Changlingzi Village in Hulin Township to distribute truth-clarifying materials. Shao Guangjin (also known as Shao Si) spotted Li. Li was first beaten by a group of thugs led by Shao and then sent to the Yilan County No. 2 Detention Center. Li was sentenced to forced labor and is being held in the Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp.

23. [Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province] Falun Dafa Practitioner Ms. Wei Xiuying Unlawfully Sentenced to Forced Labor

Ms. Wei Xiuying was retired from the Dongfang Diqiu Wuli Exploration Company of the China Petroleum Group Company in Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province. On the evening of December 29, 2003, she received a phone call from Zhu Ping, who was in charge of the residential building unit. Zhu asked her to come down from her room on the ninth floor to Zhu's home on the second floor to pick up her monthly pay stub. Ms. Wei came downstairs and picked up the pay stub. As soon as she stepped outside Zhu's room, four police officers placed her under arrest. The next day the police asked her family to sign the arrest warrant but they refused.

The police department colluded with officials of the Dongfang Exploration Company and demanded 30,000 yuan from Ms. Wei's family, which was way beyond what they could afford to pay. Wei was first taken to the detention center. When her family went to demand her release, they were told that it was too late as Ms. Wei had already been sentenced to three years of forced labor.

Wei is currently being held in the Baoding City Detention Center.

Since her arrest, Nong'an County Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhao Xiuxiang has been brutally tortured. She was handed a harsh, unlawful sentence and transferred from the Nong'an County Detention Center to the Changchun City No. 3 Detention Center where she was rejected because of her high blood pressure. Xu Shaobin, head of the Nong'an County Political Security Section, sent Ms. Zhao to the Changchun City Forced Labor Camp Hospital, which told the Nong'an County authorities to take Zhao back and release her as her blood pressure remained above 200. Xu did take Zhao out of the hospital, but then he sent her directly to the Nong'an County Detention Center. From December 2002 through early February 2003, Zhao vomited blood several times and often could not get out of bed. But the Nong'an County Police Department refuses to set her free and she still remains in custody.

There are over sixty Falun Dafa practitioners in custody at the Liaoning Province Huazi Prison, which is located in Dengta City, Liaoyang. Seven Falun Dafa practitioners in the No. 3 Ward are on hunger strikes. Among those whose names are known, Wang Limin has been on a hunger strike for over 180 days, and Wang Baojin, from Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, has been on a hunger strike for over 60 days.

Ms. Wang Guiqin, a Falun Dafa practitioner in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, lives within the Jungong Court in Nangang District. In December 2003, she went to Beijing to validate Falun Dafa. She was sent back to Harbin at the end of December and has been held in the Harbin No. 2 Detention Center, which is in Yaziquan.

On May 4, 2002, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Chen Zhenping went to Beijing to validate Falun Dafa. She was escorted home and thrown into the Wanqing Shanzhuang Brainwashing Center where she endured mental and physical abuse for over a year. In early June 2003, Ms. Chen was unlawfully sentenced to forced labor. While transferring her to the Nanshibalihe Forced Labor Camp, the thugs dragged and pulled her on the ground. Her body was bruised and her clothes torn to rags. Ms. Chen went on a hunger strike but the authorities retaliated with brutal force-feeding. On the eleventh day of her hunger strike, she showed symptoms of a stroke. The police worried about her dying in the labor camp and asked Chen's daughter to take her home. The Fengchan Road Police Station and neighborhood administrative office sent out people to keep an eye on her around the clock, whether she was at home or out on an errand. Even the letter Chen's young daughter sent to her classmates was unlawfully delayed. The police often knocked on her door to harass her family. One day in mid-July, the surveillance team spotted a Falun Dafa practitioner who had just walked out of Chen's home. They dialed the 110 emergency number. The police came right away and placed the practitioner under arrest. Ms. Chen Zhenping remains under surveillance.

Early in the evening of February 18, 2004, Falun Dafa practitioner Ye Zhigang was abducted from home by three members of the State Security Brigade of the Dandong City Police Department, two of whom were Cao Yujia and Yang Weiguang. Handicapped Falun Dafa practitioner Gong Qiumin of Jiangyuan County was unlawfully arrested by officers of the Sancha Police Station. Gong is being held in custody at the Xiele Detention Center in Jiangyuan County. Gong's daughter is only fifteen or sixteen years old and is left at home alone.

On February 9, 2004, Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Xiao Shuyun was arrested in Qingdao City while visiting her relatives. She is being unlawfully held in custody at the Dashan Detention Center. Authorities have notified her family, which has been instructed to pay 30 yuan a day as soon as she is transferred from the detention center to a brainwashing class. So far 5,000 yuan have been extorted from her family.
