(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 26 cities or counties in 10 provinces. In this report, 32 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 23 practitioners were illegally arrested.

On November 17, 2008, Mr. Zhang Litian was beaten to death in the Jinzhou Prison by two guards, Cheng Jun and Zhang Baozhi, along with two inmates. The prison authorities lied and said that Mr. Zhang died of a heart attack (see http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2008/12/21/103160.html). Mr. Zhang's family proposed to have an autopsy performed by forensic experts from outside Liaoning Province to investigate the cause of Mr. Zhang's death, but both the Jinzhou Suburban Area Procuratorate and the Jinzhou City Procuratorate rejected the family's request.

Liu Xiuyan at the Suburban Area Procuratorate and Gong Peihe at the Jinzhou City Procuratorate were rude and arrogant. Li Shicheng at the Jinzhou City Procuratorate told Mr. Jiang's family, "For you, it's the death of someone important to you. To us, it's nothing uncommon."

At around 9:00 a.m. on November 26, Mr. Zhang Litian's corpse was secretly taken back to the prison by murder suspect Zhang Baozhi. The two Procuratorates pretended not to know about this.

Mr. Sun Kaiqing and other practitioners who have refused to be "transformed" in the Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, have been on a hunger strike for several days to protest the prison guards' unreasonable abuse.

Recently, members of the Duozhuang Town 610 Office in Mengyin County and local police officers have harassed and tortured practitioners. Some incidents are as follows:

1) The police showed up twice at Mr. Duan Dedao's home in Dongduozhuang Village to harass him.
2) The police climbed over the wall and entered the home of Mr. Liu Changrui, director of the food administration agency. They also went to the homes of Mr. Yang Xuefu and Mr. Wang Jinming in Beiduozhuang Village, Ms. Liu Naimei in Xiduozhuang Village, and a practitioner in Sihouwa Village to harass them.
3) The police smashed open the door of and took into custody Lu Xingying (gender unknown) in Xishanjiao Village, who was taking a shower. Lu was held overnight and tortured.
4) The police went to Ms. Feng Fuiqin's home in Xiahe Village. They confiscated Ms. Feng's mother-in-law's Falun Dafa books, tape recorder, cassette tapes of the Falun Dafa exercises, and DVDs with Falun Gong content. Ms. Feng's husband, Mr. Wang Deliang, was taken into custody and tortured with an electric baton.
5) The police went to Mr. Wang Wanfa's home in Xiahe Village while no one was at home. The officers smashed through a theft-deterrent gate, smashed an incense pot, and confiscated a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong and a tape recorder.
6) A dozen police officers climbed over a wall and entered the home of Shi Zengchun (gender unknown). They confiscated a tape recorder.

Mr. Hu Jian, 43, and Ms. Zhang Juxiang, 45, from Wuwei City were taken into custody on August 9, 2008. On December 18, the two practitioners were placed on trial. Mr. Hu was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. Ms. Zhang was sentenced to three years in prison.

Mr. Zhang Wangquan, 58, in Xiajin County, Shandong Province, was laid off several years ago. He has often told others about the persecution and was turned in to the police. At 7:00 a.m. on October 24, 2008, members of the Xiajin County 610 Office and half a dozen officers from the police department and the state security division pretended that they were representatives from the management office of the residential community. They knocked on the door and forced their way into Mr. Zhang's home. Mr. Zhang was taken to a detention center, where he remains in custody. Mr. Zhang has held firm his belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He has been brutally tortured.

On the evening of December 17, 2008, Mr. Liu Hanming was on duty at the public bathhouse in the Jiageda Banner Passenger Railroad Station in Qiqihar City. Hou Baoshan, a security guard at the railroad station, led officers from the Qiqihar Railroad Police and three members of the Domestic Security Division, including Cui Zhiguo, a section head, to the bathhouse, to beat and take Mr. Liu away. The officers did not present any identification. The police searched Mr. Liu's home, then searched his eldest sister's home, but they did not find a photocopier. Mr. Liu Hanming's whereabouts remain unknown. His family went to see the police on December 22, but the authorities did not allow them to see Mr. Liu.

Ms. Yao Shuying is a retired teacher from Henan Agriculture University in Zhengzhou City. On December 3, 2008, she was taken into custody at home. The police searched her home. Ms. Yao is being held at the Matougang Village Detention Center affiliated with the Jinshui Police Department in Zhengzhou City.

Someone in Ms. Niu Chunling's family works at Henan Agriculture University. On December 16, 2008, Ms. Niu was taken into custody. The police confiscated a dozen or so Falun Dafa books and brochures explaining the facts about the persecution. Ms. Niu's whereabouts are unknown.

On the morning of May 5, 2008, Ms. Jiang Guofeng, who lives in Xipo Village, Zeku Town, Wendeng County, Weihai City, had just returned home from the peanut fields in the mountains. A dozen police officers led by Xiang Hongping and Li Yinglin from the Wendeng Domestic Security Division, who had been waiting for her, took her to the Wendeng Detention Center. Only a few days later, Ms. Jiang was sentenced to forced labor and taken to the Zibo Women's Forced Labor Camp.

On December 12 Ms. Qin Zhaorong and Ms. Wang Li from Zhenzi Township in the Wenjiang District of Chengdu City were telling others the facts about Falun Gong on Shou'an Street in the Wenjiang District. Wang Guoliang, director of the Shou'an Township Police Station, took them into custody. The two women are being held in the Yongsheng Detention Center. Mr. Yu Changqun and his wife are also in the same detention center. Three other practitioners in the Wenjiang District are being held in the Xinjin Brainwashing Center. They are Mr. Yang Jianzhong, Ms. Huang Yingbi, and Ms. Li Mingxiu.

At 3:00 p.m. on December 22, 2008, about six officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Fucheng County Police Department broke into Ms. Wu Jinlian's home in Cuimiao Town. The police ransacked the place and confiscated a tape recorder and an MP3 player. The police said they were to take Ms. Wu to the police station. Her husband, Mr. Wang Hongyan, confronted the police and asked what crime she had committed. The police claimed that practicing Falun Gong was committing a crime. Mr. Wang told them there was nothing wrong with practicing Falun Gong. The police even threatened to take him into custody. Ms. Wu was taken to the police department instead of the police station. Later the police ordered her family to pay 20,000 yuan in cash in exchange for her release. The amount was later reduced to 10,000 yuan. Ms. Wu remains in custody.

At around 2:00 p.m. on December 23, 2008, Pu Yonglai and other officers broke into Ms. Li Cuilan's home. They took her to the Domestic Security Division. Ms. Li is now being detained at the Qian'an City Detention Center for 15 days. Details are not available.

Recently, when Mr. Yang Yongjian's parents went to visit him, they found him emaciated. He had cloth strips wrapped around both wrists. One guard denied that Mr. Yang had been threatened to force him to write something. Mr. Yang's parents overheard this and were very concerned. They only know about the slave labor that their son has been forced to engage in. They are now worried there was something else that he has had to endure. Ms. Li Huiting, 44, is a teacher at the Binhai No. 2 Middle School. She has been distinguished as an Outstanding Math Teacher. Since the persecution started in 1999, she has been cultivating Falun Dafa with dignity. She refused to write a guarantee statement or quit cultivating, and her salary was therefore suspended. She was also not allowed to teach any classes. On December 8, 2008, officers from the Binhai Development District took her into custody, and police officers searched her home. They confiscated her car, computer, printer, and other personal property. Ms. Li was recently transferred from the Weifang City Detention Center to the Shouguang City Detention Center. Her family went to the detention center several times. The officials did not allow them to see her. Her family is worried about her.

Mr. Zhang Weijie from Wuhan City was unlawfully sentenced to one year of forced labor in December 2007. His term ended on December 13, 2008. His family arrived at the Hewan Forced Labor Camp early that day to greet him. A group of people who claimed to be from the Jiang'an District Brainwashing Center took Mr. Zhang with them. His family followed the vehicle to the brainwashing center and insisted on his release. They told the officials there that they were violating the law and that it is a heavenly principle that good deeds are rewarded and evil acts will meet retribution.

On the afternoon of December 23, two practitioners went to visit Ms. Tan Xiuying, who was just released from a forced labor camp. Two residential police officers and three patrol officers entered Ms. Tan's home to question them. The residential police arrested Ms. Tan and another practitioner with the last name of Liu, who shouted "Falun Dafa is great!" as they were being pushed into the police vehicle. The officers also searched Ms. Tan's home. The other practitioner developed severe illness symptoms. The police took the practitioner's bag with a cell phone, cash, and an MP3 player. Ms. Tan's mother, who is about 80 years old, witnessed the police brutality. She lamented, "You police officers don't follow any rules."

The Jixian County police in Shuangyashan City have been harassing practitioners and their families relentlessly. Several practitioners have been forced to leave town and become destitute. Their children have been deprived of the right to register for residential status. Mr. Cui Hongwei, a local practitioner, has been taken into custody numerous times. His whereabouts are unknown.

On the morning of December 24, 2008, Mr. Gao Liansheng in Fujin City walked by a storefront near the Qiulin Department Store. Suddenly, seven or eight police officers rushed to him and took him into custody. Mr. Gao's younger sister, Ms. Gao Yuhong, was taken into custody by Shen Jingyuan and other officers in the Fujin Domestic Security Division. On December 15, Mr. Sun Chengbo was also taken into custody. The police tried to arrest Mr. Tian Haitao but couldn't find him. They searched his home instead.

At around 5:00 p.m. on December 22, Ms. Zhang from Xiangfan City, Hubei Province, was distributing leaflets near the family quarters of the Wuhan Women's Prison in Hubei Province. People who are not aware of the persecution facts caught her and dialed the 110 emergency police number. Zhou Zesheng (badge number 027706) and another young officer from the Domestic Security Division of the Qiaokou District Police Department tortured her at the Hanshuiqiao Street Police Station. They handcuffed her to a metal window frame and suspended her off the ground, then kicked and punched her. Ms. Zhang was also stripped of her insulated jacket and left in the below freezing winter wind.

Mr. Meng Aichen, in his 50s, is from Neihuang County. Around December 7, Xie Gui'en, head of the county crime response unit, and other officers took him into custody. Mr. Meng is being held at the county detention center on charges of an administrative offense. Further details are not available.

Ms. Yu Shuxian and Ms. Chen Jiuwen from Xinbin County, Fushun City, have been sentenced to three years in prison. They were taken to Dabei Prison in Shenyang City on December 23, 2008.

Recently, Zhao Yanhai from the the Domestic Security Division of the Qian'an County Police Department and Liang Xiaowen from the No. 2 Police Station searched Ms. Zhao Lijun's home in Qian'an County, Jilin Province.

On December 23, 2008, Mr. Yang Baosen and other practitioners were taken into custody. They are being held at the Qian'an County Detention Center.

Ms. Zhao Junping from Dongzhaozhuang Village and Ms. Li Xiaocong from Xizhaozhuang Village in Xicheng Township, Liqingu Town, Dingzhou City, were taken into custody in their homes on December 18, 2008.

At around 9:00 a.m. on December 18, officers from the Dingzhou City Police Department, officers from the Liqingu Crime Response Unit, and officials of the Xicheng Township government arrived in two police cars at Dongzhaozhuang Village. They broke into Ms. Zhao's home. Ms. Zhao, in her 50s, is a village physician. The police ransacked her home and arrested her, even though she was infusing fluids into a patient. Ms. Zhao was viciously beaten after being taken to the Xicheng Township government. At around 10:00 p.m. Ms. Li Xiaocong, in her 40s, was taken into custody at her home in Xizhaogezhuang Village.

Ms. Yan Jirong and her husband, Mr. Shao Zeguo, from the Shanting District in Zaozhuang City were taken into custody by the Shanting District police. At around 2:00 p.m. on November 25, 2008, the two practitioners were taken to the Yuelou Detention Center in Zaozhuang City. On December 24, the Zaozhuang City Procuratorate officially issued arrest warrants. The couple remain in the Yuelou Detention Center.

Recently Ms. Zheng Youling, 53, from Macheng City, Hubei Province, was taken into custody in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province. Ms. Zheng was staying in Kunshan City to take care of her grandson. She went out alone to tell others about Falun Gong. It was not clear where she is being held. She was arrested around December 20, 2008.
