(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 22 cities or counties in 14 provinces. In this report, 25 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 18 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Zibo City, Shandong Province] Ms. Liu Jia Taken to a Forced Labor Camp
Ms. Liu Jia, 26, who lives in Hongshan Town in the Zichuan District in Zibo City, was constantly harassed by the Domestic Security Division, the Zichuan District 610 Office, and the Hongshan Police Station. Her family reported her missing some time ago, only to discover that she was recently sentenced to one year of forced labor. The is the second time that Ms. Liu has been imprisoned in a forced labor camp.

2. [Huangshi City, Hubei Province] Additional Information on the Detention of Ms. Xu Aigen and Ms. Xiong Fenglian
On January 10, 2009, Ms. Xu Aigen and Ms. Xiong Fenglian, both from Huangshi City, were turned in to the police for exposing the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong. Officers from the Chengyue Police Station in the Xisaishan District took the two practitioners into custody, then broke into Ms. Xiong's home, confiscating some of her Dafa books and other items. Both practitioners are being illegally detained at the Baguazui Detention Center in Huangshi City.

3. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Li Fen Sentenced to Nine Years in Prison
Ms. Li Fen from Harbin City was sentenced to nine years in prison by the Nangang District Court in Harbin City on December 30, 2008.
4. [Shanghai] Ms. Wang Lijuan from Malu Town in the Jiading District Arrested by Local Police in Mid-November 2008
5. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Ms. Cao at the Xihe Electric Plant Hospital Was Taken into Custody
On the afternoon of January 12, 2009, officers from the Fujiatun Police Station in Tangshan City arrested Ms. Cao, a retired physician at the Xihe Electric Plant Hospital in Tangshan City. The police searched her home and confiscated numerous personal items.
6. [Fangzheng County, Heilongjiang Province] Additional Information on Mr. Ji Baoshan Who Is in Custody
On January 11, 2009, Mr. Ji Baoshan from Luomi Town in Fangzheng County was taken from his home by officers from the Fangzheng County Police Department, then transferred to a local detention center. The police confiscated his computer, printer, and other personal property.

7. [Chengde City, Hebei Province] Ms. Han Liping, Mr. Chen Xiaodong, and Ms. Wang Shuqin Are Being Held in a Detention Center
On January 30, 2008, Ms. Hang Liping and Mr. Chen Xiaodong, both from Chengde City, along with Ms. Wang Shuqin from Xinglong County, were taken into custody by the local Xinglong County police. They are being detained at the Xinglong County Detention Center.
In October 2008, the Xinglong County Court put Ms. Han on trial. Even though Ms. Han hired a good attorney to defend her, the judge still sentenced the three practitioners to three or four years in prison. Her attorney is going to file an appeal to the Chengde City Intermediate Court.

8. [Wugong County, Shaanxi Province] Police Search Elderly Ms. Jin's Home
On December 22, 2008, Yan Yong, head of the Wugong County Domestic Security Division, and 12 officers from the Chengguan Police Station broke into Ms. Jin's home in the Daonan Residential Community in Puji Town and conducted an unlawful search. They confiscated DVDs, a VCD player, Dafa books, and a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong. The police then rushed over to the home of another elderly practitioner in the same community and harassed her, too.

9. [Ningcheng County, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Liu Yulan Is on a Hunger Strike--Her Life Is in Imminent Danger
On November 2, 2008, Ms. Liu Yulan from Ningcheng County was taken to the Hohhot City Women's Forced Labor Camp. She has been on a hunger strike ever since she arrived. On January 3, 2009, the labor camp authorities called her family, telling them to to send Ms. Liu more money and that they were unable to force-feed her anything.

10. [Songyuan City, Jilin Province] Mr. Liu Qing Suffers a Concussion As a Result of Severe Beatings--His Life Is in Imminent Danger
Mr. Liu Qing, 39, is from Wangjia Town in Fuyu County, Songyuan City. On May 8, 2008, local police officers took him to the Fuyu Detention Center. On May 14 personnel from the local 610 Office took him to the Kaifang Division Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp. The guards ordered inmates to beat Mr. Liu after taping his mouth shut with duct tape. Whenever he lost consciousness, the inmates poured cold water on him until he regained consciousness, then they began beating him again. After 90 minutes of this brutality, Mr. Liu suffered a concussion, causing him to lose mobility in his lower legs. On December 19, 2008, he was not able to walk. Physicians diagnosed him with a lumbar disc protrusion and food poisoning. On December 26, Mr. Liu's physical condition rapidly deteriorated to the point of near death. On the afternoon of December 31, he was taken to the Changchun Police Hospital.

11. [Liaoning Province] One Practitioner at the Computer Control Factory of the Benxi Steel Company Was Persecuted to Death--Three Others Remain Imprisoned
Mr. Zhou Zhi was an employee of the Verification Center of Computer Control Factory of the Benxi Steel Company. He died as a result of being persecuted.
Mr. Liu Bin, Ms. Feng Guixiang, and Ms. Huang Jing are all employees of the Automated Electricity Generation Division of Computer Control Factory. In April 2006, Mr. Liu Bin was arrested after the police received reports from another employee of the Benxi Steel Company. Mr. Liu was sentenced to six years in Fushun Prison.
Ms. Feng Guixiang was arrested in April 2007. She was sentenced to six and a half years in Shenyang Women's Prison.
Ms. Huang Jing, was arrested at her home in April 2008 and later sentenced to two years in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.

12. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Elderly Practitioner Arrested
On the evening of January 12, 2009, a 60-year-old practitioner was taken into custody while distributing Falun Gong leaflets in Woming Village in the suburbs of Shenyang City.
13. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Mr. Zhou Yandong's Prison Term Is Unlawfully Extended at the Fenjin Forced Labor Camp
Mr. Zhou Yandong from Changchun City has been held in Fenjin Forced Labor Camp for two years now. His original prison term was scheduled to end on January 20, 2009. When his family went to visit him on January 6, the authorities told them that Mr. Zhou had received a 25-day extension to his two-year term.
14. [Suining City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Tang Guiying and Her Husband, Mr. Su Datian, Are Taken into Custody
Ms. Tang Guiying and her husband, Mr. Su Datian, from Suining City, were taken into custody for giving out Falun Gong related brochures in Feifeng Village in Xining Township. Two non-practitioners, who accepted the brochures, were also taken into custody for questioning, then shortly released.

17. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Mr. Jiang Zhenbai and His Wife, Ms. Wang Hongxia, Were Taken to a Forced Labor Camp
On July 9, 2008 Mr. Jiang Zhenbai and his wife, Ms. Wang Hongxia, from Weifang City were taken into custody then transferred to Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in Zibo City. When they refused to be "transformed" by the guards, they were taken to the Shandong No. 1 Women's Forced Labor Camp.
On January 9, 2009, Ms. Wang was released on medical parole but her husband remains imprisoned in the Women's Forced Labor Camp.
18. [Gaomi City, Shandong Province] Ms. Mao Yongjie Arrested
On January 9, 2009, Ms. Mao Yongjie and her husband were having lunch at their home in Biejiazhuang Village in Jinggou Town, Gaomi City. Six police officers suddenly broke into their home and dragged Ms. Mao into a waiting police vehicle. When her husband tried to intervene, he was taken into custody, too, but was released six hours later. Ms. Gao was taken to the Gaomi City Detention Center.
19. [Laiyang City, Shandong Province] Mr. Dong Dianbo Taken into Police Custody
On the morning of January 14, 2009, Mr. Dong Dianbo, who lives in Yuangou Village in Tange Town, Laiyang City, was riding in a vehicle when police officers took him into custody. Shortly after, they surrounded his home. No one in his family dares to return home.
20. [Hebei Province] Brutality in Shijiazhuang Women's Forced Labor Camp
I was taken to the Shijiazhuang Women's Forced Labor in November 2008. Every day I had to work in the fields or package chopsticks. All imprisoned practitioners are forced to put on inmate uniforms. Ms. Wang Guixiang, Ms. Liu Yuekun, Ms. Zhang Junmei, and Ms. Xie Haiying refused to put on the required uniform. Liu Ziwei, a labor camp guard, viciously beat the four practitioners. Ms. Liu was handcuffed, shocked with electric batons, and hit in the head, causing her head to bleed profusely. The female guards frequently took away the four practitioners' clothes, cut their underwear up with a pair of scissors, forced them to stand for extended periods of time, and/or deprived them of food. When one practitioner threw up blood, the guards claimed she was faking the incident. Shi Shuangxia, another labor camp guard, prevented us from supporting her up by her arms. When Ms. Liu Binglan, 31, from the Gaobeidian area, refused to package chopsticks, Liu Ziwei hit her in the face, causing her face to swell up immediately. She was then dragged into a dormitory, where she was handcuffed with her arms stretched out. She was viciously beaten, leaving her completely disfigured. In addition, she was only given one or two buns a day and was not permitted to have any water or use the restroom. This torturous treatment went on for two weeks. Ms. Liu Li was also handcuffed, lifted off the ground, and brutally beaten for refusing to package chopsticks. When the two practitioners were taken back to their cells, the inmates were ordered to watch them very closely. In addition, the guards forced the two practitioners to perform very strenuous slave labor.
21. [Anyang City, Henan Province] Ms. Zhang Ji'an and Ms. Zhang Yujing Taken into Custody
At around 8:30 a.m. on January 12, 2009, Ms. Zhang Ji'an and Ms. Zhang Yujing were taken into custody by Guo Xiuhong, the deputy director of the Wenfeng District 610 Office, and domestic security police officers, who were carrying out her orders. Ms. Zhang Ji'an is a retired employee of the local transportation company. Ms. Zhang Yujing is a retired teacher at the Dongnanying Elementary School.

22. [Suining City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Chai Yun Arrested Again
On the morning of January 13, 2009, Ms. Chai Yun was taken taken to the Hedong New Residential Community Police Station. At around 1:00 p.m., officers from the Suining City 610 Office and from the local police station searched her home in the No. 3 Team, Nanhaisi Village, Renli Town, Chuanshan District in Suining City. At 5:00 p.m. Ms. Chai was taken to the Yongxing Detention Center in Suining City.
23. [Lanshan County, Hunan Province] Mr. Lu Xin and His Wife, Ms. Huang Manping, Sentenced to Prison
On December 5, 2008, the Lanshan County Court retried Ms. Lu Xin and his wife, Ms. Huang Manping. On January 4, 2009, the court sentenced Mr. Lu to five years in prison and Ms. Man to three years in prison, with a suspension of five years. Ms. Huang was later released home. Mr. Lu has appealed his case to the Yongzhou City Intermediate Court.

24. [Xiangfan City, Hubei Province] Mr. Chen Xinan Taken to the No. 4 Ward in Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang County on January 4, 2009
25. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Ye Ruifen Arrested
Ms. Ye Ruifen is retired from the Huangpu Electricity Plant in Guangzhou City. At around noon on January 12, 2009, police officers from the Chigang Street area in the Haizhu District took her into custody. The officers also confiscated a personal computer of hers and some books. The police claimed that she would be transferred to a brainwashing center after seven days of detention. Her family is prohibited from visiting her.
26. [Chongqing] Ms. Zhang Zhifen and Two Other Practitioners Were Taken into Custody
On January 12, 2009, Ms. Zhang Zhifen, Ms. Tan, and a practitioner with the nickname 'Sister Six' were taken into custody on Binjiang Road and later had their homes searched. The three practitioners are being held at a detention center.
27. [Chongqing] Ms. Yu Shuqing Arrested
Ms. Yu Shuqin, 65, is a retired teacher. She used to teach at Chang'er High School. She lives in the Changshou District in Chongqing City. At around 8:30 p.m. on January 13, 2009, Ms. Yu was taken into custody by officers from the Guankou Police Station and from the Fengshan Police Station while she was distributing Falun Gong related brochures on Wangjiang Road in the Changshou District. The police searched her home in the middle of the night and confiscated some of her Dafa books.
28. [Shantou City, Guangdong Province] Additional Information on Ms. Huang Meiyun, Who is under Arrest
On December 2, 2008, Ms. Huang Meiyu, from Shantou City was taken into custody. Five days later she was transferred from a temporary detention facility to the Tuopu Detention Center in Shantou City. On December 25, 2008, she was placed under formal arrest. The police are doing everything they can to sentence her to prison.
Inmates held at the Tuopu Detention Center have been forced to do slave labor. They are allowed only two to three hours of sleep per night. Inmates who fail to finish their assigned workload are viciously beaten. Eight other practitioners are being held at the detention center, including Ms. Zheng Minghui, Ms. Peng Peishan, Ms. Wu Huizhen, and Ms. Su Wanlan.

29. [Qianxinan Prefecture, Guizhou Province] Ms. Shi Zhuohui Was Taken into Custody Again
Ms. Shi Zhuohui is a teacher at the Xingyi No. 1 High School in Xingyi City in the Qianxinan Prefecture. In 2001, she was arrested by the Xingyi City 610 Office for practicing Falun Dafa. The police searched her home and sentenced her to four years in prison. They then took her to the Yang'ai Farm in Guizhou Province and released her in 2005.
On September 27, 2008, she was again taken into custody by officers from the Qianxinan Prefecture 610 Office and the Xingyi City 610 Office for her refusal to give up practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Shi remains in custody at the Xingyi City Detention Center.
