(Clearwisdom.net) On January 31, 2009, Mr. Luo Xianbao's family received a call from Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang City. The prison guards claimed that Mr. Luo, a Falun Gong practitioner from Baiguo Town, Macheng City, Hubei Province, had been sent to the prison hospital due to his high blood pressure. His family went to see him in Shayang Forced Labor Camp, 400 kilometers (600 miles) away from home. They found him confined to bed when they visited him the next day. He was unable to move his left hand and leg, his eyes were vacant, and his speech unclear. He did not recognize his family.
The prison guards claimed that Mr. Luo's blood pressure was over 200. His family requested his immediate release. The prison refused, claiming that further observation of his symptoms was needed and that discharge procedures required additional time. The prison guards deceived Mr. Luo's family by saying that Mr. Luo would be sent home after he was released from the hospital.
Mr. Luo had been arrested at his home at about midnight on June 22, 2007, and later detained in Macheng City Detention Center. In January 2008, Macheng Court sentenced Mr. Luo to a four-year prison term without notifying his family before the trial. He was detained in Wuhan Prison for about ten days, then taken to Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang City. Mr. Luo is currently imprisoned in the No. 2 Subarea, No. 4 Prison Yard.
Mr. Luo's family called the prison to inquire about his health, but the guards said only that Mr. Luo refused to comply with the treatment plan. When his family asked for further information, the guards just said he was getting better. When his family then asked to talk to Mr. Luo on the phone, the guards were evasive at first, then they denied their request and hung up the phone.
