Guards at the Third Detention Center of Changchun City Police Department Receive Retribution
In nearly ten years of persecution, Falun Gong practitioners have been illegally detained in the Third Detention Center of the Changchun City Police Department. Many guards there have followed the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in persecuting practitioners and committed monstrous crimes. It is known that many practitioners have been tortured to death in detention, though due to the information blockade, the actual number of deaths is not known.
According to inside information, in this detention center it has been routine to beat, verbally abuse, physically abuse, confiscate money and possessions, and extort money from the detainees. Some guards extort money from detainees' family members and wine and dine at the expense of the family members. They even go so far as to ask for sexual services. They are far more monstrous and relentless in their treatment of Falun Gong practitioners and their family members. Many guards think nothing of torturing or beating practitioners to death.
Recently, however, because of a series of incidents that have happened to guards at the detention center, some have understood that they have indeed received karmic retribution for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. In the first half of 2008, several guards in the Third Detention Center beat an inmate surnamed Zhang,to death. At that time, the heads of the detention center decided to treat his death as they have done with other Falun Gong practitioners' deaths, and they falsified the cause of death, saying that the practitioner had died from heart disease. They informed the practitioner's family members and hurriedly planned to cremate the body.
It turned out, however,that the practitioner's two brothers are, respectively, the Deputy Mayor of Baishan City and the Director of the Economic and Trade Committee of Jilin Province. They insisted on seeing the corpse, but the detention center refused. The family and the detention center were at an impasse. Later, over thirty members of the practitioner's family broke into the detention center to obtain the body, and found that Mr. Zhang's body was badly injured because of torture. They quickly took photos of the body. Through their connections, they brought the case to the higher government officials. The head of the Police Department wanted to resolve the case by paying the practitioner's family one million yuan, but the inmate's family refused the settlement.
It has been learned that many detention center leaders have been removed from their offices. Among them are detention center head Suo Wei, political head Wang Jiachen, and deputy head Wang Zhongwei. Zhao Hongmin, deputy head of the Supervision Division of the City Police Department, who is in charge of detention centers and jails, was punished with the recording of a demerit in his service record. The guards who were directly involved in the beating, including education section head Liu Chuang, and guards Sun Zhendong and Wang Yan were recently given sentences of fifteen, fourteen, and ten years, respectively, for their crimes of intentionally harming others. Two inmates who took part in persecuting practitioners were also given an additional sentence of ten years.
Recently, it was exposed that Yu Liping (male), 40 years old, deputy head of the education section, guard Li Zhe (female), 30 years old, and Qu Tiejun (male), 46 years old, education section leader of the Second Detention Center, and Tian Licheng (male), 32 years old, detective head of the Criminal Police Division of the Chaoyang District Police Department, were given sentences ranging from seven months to one year for their involvement of collaborating and falsifying a merit record of an inmate.
A CCP Committee Head from a Village in Yongji County, Jilin City Receives Karmic Retribution
Jiang Guorong, about 50 years old, was the Party Committee head of Xiaochuan Village, Yongji County, Jilin City. In 2007, Jiang and the village head illegally arrested a Falun Gong practitioner who went to the village to distribute truth-clarification materials and talk to people about the persecution. In 2008, Jiang was diagnosed with stomach cancer. He has since slowed down his involvement in persecuting practitioners.
Editors' note: In both Western and Chinese cultures, the principle of karmic retribution, that is, being held ultimately accountable for one's own actions, is widely accepted. The fundamental teaching of Falun Gong is the characteristic of the universe, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The universe will reward acts that are in harmony with this principle, while doing things such as beating, torturing and murdering people will incur karmic retribution. Stated another way, good deeds will be rewarded with good, while evildoings will meet due retribution. Articles such as this one are meant as a compassionate reminder of this principle to those who would commit wrongdoing. While many of those who persecute Falun Gong are merely "following orders," the universal law requires that they, too, be held responsible for their actions, and that only by reversing their course of wrongdoing may they escape retribution.
