(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 21 cities or counties in 9 provinces. In this report, 24 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 25 practitioners were illegally arrested.

Mr. Li Shigang is from the Jiangbei area in Longtan District, Jilin City. He was illegally arrested prior to the August 2008 Beijing Olympic Games by officers from the Tuchengzi Police Station in Longtan District and sentenced to two years of forced labor. On January 11, 2009, Mr. Li fell down on his way back from doing hard labor at the labor camp. He has been bedridden since then and cannot take care of himself. Medical examinations at a hospital in Changchun City indicated that he suffered a spinal fracture, which resulted in numbness in both of his legs, coupled with nerve pain. On January 23, the labor camp officials were afraid of being held responsible and notified Mr. Li's family to take him home.

On December 23, 2008, Ms. Zhu Yumei and Mr. Wang Kun were taken to court. An attorney from the Zhenyin Attorneys Office in Beijing plead not guilty on behalf of the two practitioners. Officials at the Acheng District Court in Harbin City scheduled a second court session at 9:30 a.m. on March 9, 2009, at the Daoli District Court in Harbin City.

Ms. Yang Xiuxia, a physician who lives in Xinzhao Town, Zhaoyuan County in Daqing City, was sentenced to four years in prison by the Zhaoyuan County Court. She was taken to a prison in Harbin City in early February. Meanwhile, Ms. Li Guangbo from Xinzhao Town remains in custody at the Zhaoyuan County Detention Center

At around 3:30 p.m. on March 5, Mr. Gao Hongcai was taken into custody while in his home in Jilin City by two officers from the Xinshu Street Police Station in the Longtan District.

On the morning of February 17, Mr. Hu Lingen was taken from his home. The police also confiscated a personal computer and other personal items. Soon afterwards, elderly Ms. Xu Yongfang was also harassed by the police.

Ms. Zhou Junling in the Nankai District was "illegally arrested" on August 25, 2008, by officers from the Nankai Police Department in Tianjin. Her husband was denied admission to the detention center because of his illness symptoms. He has been staying at home. On March 4, 2009, Ms. Zhou and her husband were taken to the Nankai Intermediate Court. No sentences were handed down. It has not been decided when the next court session will be held. On March 1, Ms. Fan Qingqing was working at Hailong Group Company in Weifang City. Some people showed up to arrest her. Ms. Fan managed to escape.

At 1:30 p.m. on February 26 Ms. Li Yuanyun was unlawfully placed on trial at the Wuqiang County Court in Hengshui City. At 9:00 a.m. on February 27, Mr. Yang Li was tried as well.

At around 2:00 p.m. on March 2, Ms. Sun Guiying was followed to a store by Zhang Deyun, an officer from the Yingcheng Police Station in Jiutai City who did not wear a police uniform. Zhang did not present any identification card or paperwork and started searching Ms. Sun's handbag. He found some brochures with contents exposing the persecution and called the Yingcheng Police Station. More officers arrived and took her into custody. Ms. Sun is being held at a detention center.

It has been reported that Ms. Yan Hongyan from the Zunhua area in Tangshan City has to have oxygen to sustain her life. Ms. Liu Baoxia was shocked with electric batons. Another practitioner was almost tortured to death.

At noon on March 6, 2009, Mr. Wang Junfu had just taken his granddaughter to his home in Fengnan District, Tangshan City, when officers from the Xugezhuang Police Station in Fengnan District took him into custody. The officers also searched his home. Mr. Wang is being held at the police station.

Ms. Zhang Xiaohong, 39, lives in Luxiang Village, Huixian City under the jurisdiction of Xinxiang City. At 1:30 p.m. on March 3, officers from the police department and the Chengguan Town Police Station arrived to take her into custody and searched her home. Ms. Zhang is being held at the Huixian City Detention Center.

Ms. Zhang Ling, 40, and Ms. Li Yun, 28, both from Suizhou City, were taken into custody on the evening of April 8, 2008. They were taken to the Suizhou City No. 1 Detention Center. Ms. Zhang's entire body swelled. Suizhou City Court held a secret trial without notifying the practitioners' families. Ms. Li was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. Ms. Zhang was sentenced to three years. Ms. Li appealed her case. Her term was reduced to two years. At the end of the trial, Ms. Li carried Ms. Zhang out of the courtroom on her back.

Ms. Lin Zhenzhi, 57, went missing in early November 2008. According to reliable sources, she was turned in to the police while telling others about the facts of the persecutions. The police forcibly took her to the Guangzhou City Legal School, where brainwashing sessions were held targeting practitioners.

Mr. Yan Zeping, 46, lives in Shuitu Town, Beipei District, Chongqing. In 2002, he was taken to the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp and held there for two years. After returning home, he now makes a living selling fruit. On March 4, 2009, he was giving out brochures with truth clarification contents. Plainclothes officers and assistants followed him and took him into custody. Yang Jie, a local police officer, led other individuals to his home. The police confiscated two Falun Gong exercise cassette tapes. Mr. Yan has been placed in detention and taken to the Beipei District Detention Center.

On the morning of March 4, Ms. Luo Yubi and Ms. Zhu Xianyu, around 60 years old, were taken into custody while they were telling others about the persecution in the Ximen area in Zhuyang Town.

On the afternoon of February 27 officers from the Xiangfan City Police Department and members of the 610 Office searched practitioners homes in Xiangfan City. The officers took 100 yuan in cash while searching the home of Ms. Hu Gaoying, who works at the Xiangfan City Textile Factory. Ms. Hu asked the police to return the cash to her after she found out about it. The officers denied taking the money. On March 2, the police made up a lie and told Ms. Hu to go somewhere. Ms. Hu has been missing ever since.

At around 10:00 a.m. on March 5, Ms. Liu Rui, 58, who retired from the Examination Section at the Jiangbei District No. 1 People's Hospital in Chongqing, and Ms. Zhu Zhongxiu, around 70 years old, were turned into the police while they were telling others about the facts of the persecution in Wanghaihua City. Later the two practitioners were taken into custody at the Maoye Merchandise Plaza in Jiangbei District. They were held at the Jiangbei District Detention Center for 10 days.

Ms. Ju Baogui, 48, lives in Houtaoyuan Village in Baichihe Town, Zhucheng City. She was recently taken into custody by officers from the Baichihe Town Police Station. She is being held in Zhucheng City.

Mr. Wang Qingchen, around 70 years old, used to work at the Wulian County Foreign Trade Company in Rizhao City. At 9:00 a.m. on March 4, he accompanied a relative to the Wulian County Hospital for a medical examination. Officers from the Wulian Police Department took him into custody in the hospital. Prior to this unlawful arrest, the Wulian police took into custody Mr. Yang Pichang, also at the Wulian County Foreign Trade Company, on February 17. The police also searched Mr. Yang's home.

On the evening of March 4, officers from the Jiangmifeng Town Police Station in the Longtan District of Jilin City harassed some practitioners while they were in their homes. At around 6:00 p.m. that evening, the police took into custody Ms. Han Yanmei and her husband, Mr. Liu Yi, who is not a practitioner. The couple has reported to have been unlawfully placed in detention.

A female practitioner who worked at the Rizhao Electric Generation Plant has been imprisoned. It has been reported that she was taken to a labor camp a few years ago. She had returned to work for some time. She was again arrested for distributing brochures and sentenced to prison. She has been expelled from the plant. Her husband was an official in middle management. He was implicated and demoted to a worker in a workshop. The female practitioner has been under constant persecution during the past couple of years.

On February 28, 2009, Zhang Baojun and one or two other inmates assigned to keep an eye on Mr. Shi Wenzhuo around the clock made up an excuse and beat him. Mr. Shi became bedridden as a result of the brutal beatings. The person in charge of the ward is Yue Tong, head of the No. 3 Ward of Clothing Manufacturing in Jilin Prison. Cui Chengzhe is the person in charge of the team Mr. Shi is in.

On March 3 and March 4, 2009, Chen Jun and Huang Zuhua, who are in charge of the Zhanjiang City 610 Office, unlawfully took into custody Ms. Chen Shaorong, 65, Ms. Hong Yuxian, 68, Ms. Liu Yafang, 65, and Ms. Wu Guixiang, 59. Mr. Zhang Jianping in Fuyu County was taken into custody by the Fuyu County Police Department on March 1. He is being held at the Qiqihar City No. 1 Detention Center.

Ms. Tong Yajuan and Mr. Wu Yaorong, who were taken into custody on February 20, have safely returned home.

Ms. Wang Yuxian, 54, has been sentenced to nine years in prison; Ms. Wang Guirong, four years; Ms. Hao Xiaonian, three years; Ms. Jia Guilan, 64, seven years. The four practitioners from Qiqihar City have been taken to the Harbin Women's Prison.
