(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China contains persecution accounts which took place in 25 cities and counties in 12 provinces. In this report, 28 practitioners were subjected to brutal maltreatment during their detention and at least 31 practitioners were illegally arrested.

Mr. Xie Wangming, Ms Yang Shunying, Ms. Lu Xiqiong, and three other practitioners were placed on trial on January 14 after being "illegally detained" approximately 10 months at the Xiangtan City Detention Center. They were "illegally sentenced" to prison terms on January 23, 2009. Mr. Xie Wangming was sentenced to a seven and a half year prison term. Ms. Yang Shunying was sentenced to three and a half years. Mr. Luo Yiming was sentenced to three and a half years--he is currently undergoing medical treatment outside the prison. Mr. Tan Yanjie was sentenced to three years with probation outside prison. Ms. Zhang Yaqin was sentenced to three years, and Ms. Lu Xiqiong was sentenced to a one and a half years.

On May 29, 2008, three policemen illegally arrested Ms. Li Shufang (34 years old) and took her to the Shisiweilu Police Station in the Heping District. They confiscated keys and truth clarification materials from her bag. At 9:00 p.m., she was taken to the Shenyang City Detention Center where she was tortured, causing myocardial ischemia and mental disorders. Later, she was taken to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. The camp personnel refused to admit her due to her poor physical condition. Ms. Li was subsequently released to her family. Two months later, she had barely recovered when Gu Tian and other officers from the Shisiweilu Police Station arrested and sentenced her to a one-year term in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Li is now being tortured at this facility.

On February 10, 2009, Mr. Cheng Zipeng was subjected to an illegal, secret trial at the Anlu City Court. His family was not notified.

Mr. Li Hailong was transferred to the Chanchun Public Security Bureau Detention Center by 610 Office and court officials. Reports indicate that more than fifty practitioners are being illegally detained at the Changchun Security Detention Center.

Before the Chinese New Year, Mr. Li's father went to visit him and had 300 yuan extorted from him. He was not allowed to visit his son unless he paid the bribe.

Ms. Jiang Lei was arrested in April 2008. The family informational material production site was destroyed. Police confiscated two computers from her home. Currently, she is detained in Shenyang (possibly in Dabei Prison), sentenced to a five-year prison term.

On February 5, Mr. Liu Hanyong (78 years old) was arrested at home, and his house was ransacked by officers from the Xinhua Police Station, Shunchen District. On February 6, Ms. Xiao Huiye (59 years old) went to Mr. Liu's house and was arrested by policemen hiding in ambush. On February 7, her house was ransacked by the police. Both practitioners are now detained in Nangou Detention Center and subjected to force-feeding torture.

On February 9, 2009, Mr. Zou Zonghua from Penglai City fell unconscious and suffered head injuries while he was on a road. Passersby found him and saw Dafa material in his bag. The called an emergency number. Mr. Zou was taken to Hospital 405 in Penglai by policemen, and received emergency treatment. The police have prohibited his family from visiting him.

On February 9, 2009, Ms. Liu Damei and Ms. Cai Cuiling, employees of the No. 8 Mine, Pingdingshan, went to Zhanbei Town, Xiang County, Xuchang City, to talk to people about Falun Dafa but were reported to the police and subsequently arrested by officers from the National Security Bureau of Xiang County. They remain in custody.

Mr. Zhang Xinghua, Ms. Zhao Guifang, and Ms.Wei Yifen of Zhongliangshan, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing, were arrested on February 6, 2009, while they were sharing facts of Falun Dafa at Yuqingsi Temple. They are being detained in Huayan Detention Center, Jiulongpo District.

Ms. Zhang Weiping, a practitioner from Zhaoqing City, was a Gaoyao City highway worker. One evening during the 2009 Lantern Festival, Ms. Zhang was talking about the facts of Falun Dafa at the Darunfa Market in Zhaoqing City, when over 20 plainclothes policemen arrested her. She is in custody at the Duanzhou District Detention Center, Zhaoqing City.

One practitioner has been forced to stand directly in front of a wall daily, in solitary confinement at Shiing Prison, Siping City.

Mr. Yang Zhanjiu, a practitioner from Yushu City, was illegally sentenced to a seven-year prison term in 2002. While he was detained at the Education sub-district in Shilingzi Prison, guards forced him to stop practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Yang was forced to jump from a high building and was seriously injured.

On February 9, 2009, Ms. Mei Yuan of Nanhu, Wuhan City, left her house. On February 10, several policemen broke into and ransacked the house she was renting.

Mr. Yu You, Mr. Li Xianzhong, and Mr. Chen Jiang, practitioners from Beixing Farm, were arrested nine month ago. On January 20 they were transferred to Lianjiankou Prison in Jiamusi City.

Mr. Li Xianzhong was tortured and sustained heavy bruising around his eyes, including a small patch of black on his face near the bottom of his eye, which appeared to be scarring from the injuries. One of his ears was frostbitten.

Mr. Liu Guoxing, 60 years old, was formerly employed at the Shuiquliu Factory in Shulan City. In order to make a living, he found a job in Shulan City. On February 9, 2009, he was arrested while distributing fliers to tell people the facts about Falun Dafa. Currently, he is being detained at the Shulan City Detention Center.

Mr. Zhang Lihua from Zhaoyuan Farm in Heilongjiang Province was arrested by the Public Security Bureau of Zhaoyuan Farm officials on February 11. Currently, he is being tortured at the Suihua Farming Detention Center in Heilongjiang Province.

Mr. Yang Dewei's wife from Sifangtai Village, Caijiagou Town, was arrested on February 11. Local policemen forced open the door and arrested her when no one else was at home. Mr. Yang was working outside the village and their twin daughters were attending high school.

Ms. Gu Xiuqing was from Wanjiatuozi Village, Caijiaying Town, Fuyu County. Policemen from the local station broke into her home and arrested her, disregarding the elderly parent's sickness.

Ms. Zhang Yuying from Tangwang Town, Licheng District, Jinan City, will stand trial at the Licheng Court, Jinan City, at 2:00 p.m., February 24.

On February 11, 2009, seven officers from the Zhoucunmengshui Police Station broke into Ms. Chen Xinhong's home and arrested her. Ms. Chen is from Xinhancun Village, Mengshui Town, Zibo City, Shandong Province.

On September 18, 2008, Mr. Zhang Niansheng was arrested. He was released on probation to his family on January 17, 2009. However, a week later, Qi Dengjian, secretary of the County Political and Judiciary Commission, issued orders to place Mr. Zhang in prison again.

On December 25, 2008, as Mr. Guo Zhansheng from Jianxi District, Luoyang City, was taking his children to school, officials from the Jiyuan City National Security Division, Henan Province, arrested him and took him to the Jiyuan City Detention Center.

Mr. Wang Gedan, Mr. Li Hainiu, and Ms. Zhou Gaiying were arrested in Wangcun Village, Guo Jiapu Town, by policemen from the Jinzhong City Public Security Bureau, along with staff from the 610 Office, on January 25, 2009, Chinese New Year's Eve. Following their arrest, their homes were ransacked and their printers, computers, and other equipment were confiscated. Currently, they are detained at the Xinfucun Detention Center.

Mr. Zhu Yaoting from Wuxue City, Hubei Province, was arrested on December 20, 2008, by officials from the Xijing Police Station, Baiyun District, Guangzhou City. His family members have not been allowed to visit him since his arrest. Reports indicate that on the second day of his arrest, Mr. Zhu was taken to hospital due to injuries sustained as a result of torture.

On November 22, 2008, police were ransacking Ms. Qiu Chunmei's home as Ms. Zeng Xiaoli from Jiaoling County, Meizhou City, arrived to visit Ms. Qiu, who had been arrested the day before while distributing truth-clarification fliers. Ms. Zeng and another practitioner were arrested at Ms. Qiu's home. Ms. Zeng is currently in custody.

Ms. Zhao Guifen, Ms. Zhang Xinhua, Mr. Sun Weifu, and another practitioners from Yuqingsi, Shapingba District, Chongqing, were arrested on February 5 and 6. They were taken into custody at the Huayan Detention Center.

Mr. Ma Shisong from Guanghan City was taken into custody just before the Olympic Games. Police from the Nanmen Detention Center put unknown drugs into their egg milk, claiming to be "improving their quality of life," which resulted in central nervous system disorders. Mr. Ma was illegally sentenced to a one-year probation.

Mr. Ji Baoshan from Fangzheng Forestry Bureau was arrested by Fangzheng County National Security Division officials on January 11, 2009. During his custody at the Fangzheng County Detention Center, Mr. Ji was subjected to multiple tortures, including starvation, blows to his face, etc. On February 11, over ten residents from the village where Mr. Ji resided went to the Fangzheng County Public Security Bureau to request his release. Their appeal was denied by the Public Security Bureau staff.

On April 19, 2008, the police broke into the homes of Mr. Yu Ping and five other practitioners from Zhoujiajing Courtyard, Chaoyang District, Beijing. They ransacked the practitioners' houses and arrested them. They arrested Ms. Zhao Yumin and her husband, Mr. Yu Ping, Ms Guo Li, Ms. Jin Yulan, Ms. Zhao Jingmin, and Ms. Qin, Ms. Zhao Yumin's mother.

On January 25, Chinese New Year Eve, senior practitioners Ms. Ding Cui and Ms. Zhu Shuixia were posting stickers at the Development Zone, Jiujiang City, when they were arrested by officers from the Xilin Police Station, Pali Lake Public Security Bureau Police Division, and the Development Zone and were taken to the Jiujiang City Detention Center. On January 27, family members went to the Xilin Police Station to inquire about their situations, but officials continually shifted responsibilitt to others. Family members went to the Jiujiang City Detention Center and asked to visit them, but they were turned away. The two practitioners remain in custody.

On February 8, 2009, Ms. Wu Haiying (31 years old) from Luocun Town, Foshan City, was arrested by security guards and policemen when she was talking to people about Falun Gong at a factory where she used to work.

Mr. Cao Sheru was arrested and taken to Binzhou Detention Center. He was detained for fifteen days and officials confiscated 200 yuan from him. Mr. Cao was subsequently released.

Ms. Zhang Ling and Ms. Zhang Juan from Bozhou City were arrested when they were out on February 10. Both of their homes were ransacked. Both practitioners are in custody at a detention center. Mr. Zhou Chaoyang has undergone persecution for a year in the same detention center.
