(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 44 cities or counties in 15 provinces. In this report, 31 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 43 practitioners were illegally arrested.

On the afternoon of February 21, 2009, Ms. Liu Qiong, Ms. Yan Yongxiu, and two other practitioners in Shishou City were taken to a police station for telling others the facts about the persecution. They were held at the city detention center for over 30 days. The two other practitioners were released. Ms. Liu and Ms. Yan have remained in custody. On March 19, they started a hunger strike, protesting the unlawful custody.

On the afternoon of March 19, a dozen police officers from the Huadian City Domestic Security Division and the Sumigou Police Station went to the countryside in Sumigou Township. They beat and took Mr. Wang Chunshan into custody. The officers then went to the marketplace and took Mr. Wang's wife, Ms. Zhao Yayu, into custody while she was selling preserved vegetables.

On the evening of March 19, Ms. Zhao was coerced by the police to go to Ms. Jiang Shuxian's home. Ms. Jiang, her husband, and their child were asleep. The police took all three into custody. Ms. Jiang's husband and their child were released after a few hours. She was cruelly tortured. The police beat her with three electric batons. On March 23, others saw that her face was swollen.

Mr. Pan Benyu from Qiqihar City suffered severe abuse in Tailai Prison. His entire body was swollen. The prison authorities have notified his family to visit him. They told the family that Mr. Pan suffered a stroke, and his life was in imminent danger, yet the officials have refused to release him.

Ms. Song Xiu, born in 1960, lives in Gaomi City in the Weifang area. On January 12, she was taken to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp. The guards handcuffed her to a window frame, suspending her.

On the early morning of March 18, 2009, officers from the Yishui County 610 Office and the Huangshanpu Town Police Station broke into Ms. Li Xiuying's home in Longshanguanzhuang Village. They climbed over the wall to take her into custody. Ms. Li was taken to the Yishui County Detention Center the same afternoon.

On the morning of March 23, Ms. Wang Jianying and Ms. Chen Meichun were turned in to the police while they were telling others about the persecution of Falun Gong at the Shaling construction site in Shuiji Town, Laixi City. Six officers from the Qingdao Road Police Station took the two practitioners into custody later that morning. Ms. Wang and Ms. Chen were taken to the Laixi Detention Center that night. The police also searched their homes.

On the morning of March 17, officers were sent from the Mengyin County 610 Office and the Tanbu Town Police Station to Ms. Kan Jixiang's home. The officers saw that the door was locked and climbed over the wall. They looked in from outside her home, then called in the village Party secretary and other officials. They smashed open the door. With no one at home, the police took a notebook computer, three MP3 players, two printers, a DVD burner, and a large number of printouts. The total value of these personal items was estimated at 10,000 yuan.

Ms. Yang Zai was severely abused by the Zhanjiang 610 Office. She was forced to leave home and work odd jobs in Zhangshan City, Guangdong Province. On March 24, she was again taken into custody. Her son and daughter, who are not practitioners, were also taken into custody.

Mr. Liu Wei from Beijing operates a company at the Zhongchu Steel Market in the Beichen District of Tianjin. On July 20, 2008, he was taken into custody. It was reported later that he had been taken to a facility in Henan Province. He faces an unlawful trial on March 26.

On the morning of July 25, 2008, Ms. Song Guihua, around 50 years old, was taken into custody by Liu Hongbo and other officers from the Nanzhan Police Station. She was secretly sentenced to four years in prison. Her family did not know about this until November, when they received notice to send in blankets. Ms. Song is being held at the Luquan Women's Prison in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province.

Ms. Ye Yaping lives in the family quarters of the Gaomiao Procuratorate in Zhangjiakou City. On July 24, 2008 she was taken into custody by officers from the Gongye Street Police Station in Qiaodong District. She was secretly sentenced to three years in prison. Ms. Ye is being held at the Luquan Women's Prison in Shijiazhuang City.

Between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on March 25, half a dozen officers led by Yu Shiyong, deputy director of the Ping'an Town Police Station in Shulan City, took into custody Mr. Zeng Qingyi and his wife in Fengdetun Hamlet, Xinfa Village. The officers then took into custody Mr. Sun Yanhe and Ms. Wang Yanhong in Ping'an Town. The police viciously beat the practitioners while dragging them into the police vehicle.

Mr. Ding Wenkui and Mr. Wang Libo from Changchun City were taken into custody by officers from the Changchun City Domestic Security Division and the Guilin Road Police Station. The two practitioners are being held at the Weizigou Detention Center. They are facing unlawful trial and prison terms.

Ms. Yang Meixiang lives in the family quarters of the Yichun No. 2 Construction Company. She was taken to the Jiangxi Province Women's Forced Labor Camp again. She had been illegally sentenced to six years in prison before. She was arrested again soon after returning home and separated from her husband and their daughter.

Ms. Dou Jinxian lives in Linqu County, Weifang City. She was taken into custody by the railroad police while telling passengers on a train heading toward Qingdao City from Zibo City about the persecution. She is being held at the Linqu County Detention Center. The police searched her home that night and confiscated her husband's computer and printer. Her husband is an architectural engineer.

Mr. Li Huiyao from Jidong County has been sentenced to two years of forced labor and taken to the Suihua Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Bai Shuqin has been sentenced to eighteen months of forced labor. She was taken to the Harbin Women's Forced Labor Camp. She was not admitted after failing the physical examination. She has returned home.

Ms. Xiao Chunhua from the Cuizhuang area in the suburbs of Qinhuangdao City is about 41 years old. She was taken into custody on March 25. Her whereabouts are unknown.

At around 6:00 p.m. on March 23, Mr. Wang Xiwen was deceived by officials from the residential committee and opened the door to his home in the No. 4 Residential Community in the Fengrun District of Tangshan City. Police officers rushed in and took him into custody. The police also confiscated a personal computer and other personal items. Mr. Wang is being held at the Fengrun Detention Center.

Ms. Xu Huibi, 63, was a retired teacher in Xipeng Town, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. After July 20, 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong and was arrested. In August 2003, she was arrested again for placing banners in a public area. She had been held in Yongchun Prison. She was released in August 2007 when she had become extremely weak after extended abuse. She died on the afternoon of March 7, 2009.

Ms. Zhang Bihua, 57, is from Suining City. At around 11:00 p.m. on March 21, she was taken into custody from her home.

Ms. Yu Shaoping is a teacher at the Beijie Elementary School in Dayi County. She was taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Center from the Dayi Detention Center on March 24 after being secretly taken into custody 15 days earlier.

At around 5:00 p.m. on March 24, 2009, Mr. Song Jihong from Chiping County was taken into custody by officers from the Patrolling Division of the Chiping County Police Department. He has been taken to the Chiping County Detention Center.

At around 7:00 a.m. on March 25, three officers took orders from the Chiping County 610 Office and searched Mr. Song's home. They twisted the arms of Mr. Song's wife after she tried to stop the officers from taking their personal property. The officers took an MP3 player and a recorder among many other items.

On the evening of March 21, Ms. Zhou Ailing from the Qiaokou District in Wuhan City was taken into custody after being turned in to the police while handing out printouts exposing the ongoing persecution. She is being held at the so-called Erzhigou Women and Children's Rehabilitation Center.

On March 3, 2009, Ms. Sun Lingmin was taken to the Zhangdian District Court in Zibo City. No decision was reached. However, the authorities continued to hold Ms. Sun in custody unlawfully.

Ms. Xiong Chun, a practitioner working at the Luotian County People's Hospital, was taken into custody from the hospital at around 3:00 p.m. on March 18. She was taken to the Luotian County No. 2 Detention Center.

Between 11:00 p.m. and midnight on March 23, members of the Weibin District 610 Office, officers from the Xibao Road Police Station, and officials at the Shibahe Township government in the Weibin District took Ms. Wang Zhaoyun into custody. The officers climbed over the wall to break in. They took a photocopier and some printouts.

In early February, Ms. Zhang Guizhen, a practitioner in her seventies working at the Zhongyuan Oil Fields, was taken into custody by officers from the Zhongyuan Oil Fields Police Department. The police also searched her home. Ms. Zhang is being held at the Puyang City Detention Center.

Mr. Fan Zeng, in his thirties, was taken into custody by the Puyang City Domestic Security Division. The police also searched his home.

On February 12, Ms. Cui Hongguang, who worked in the Pipe Tools Division of the Zhongyuan Oil Fields, was taken into custody by the Domestic Security Section at the oil fields. She is being held at the Puyang Residential Community Police Station.

On March 20, Ms. Li Caizhu, around 69 years old, was taken from her home in Houzhai Village, Xinxi Township in Puyang City, by officers from the Puyang City Domestic Security Division. The police also confiscated DVDs and some printouts.

In the early morning of March 24, the police climbed over the wall to break into a practitioner's home. The officers searched the place. The practitioner's family were forced to stay away from their home to avoid police harassment.

It has been recently reported that Ms. Ma Chunmei has stayed on a hunger strike for over 40 days since she was unlawfully taken to the Qingpu Brainwashing Center. Her life is in imminent danger.

Ms. Zhang Zhifang was taken into custody by the Dafangli Police Station. Members of the Daowai District 610 Office and officers of the Domestic Security Division sentenced her to two years of forced labor. She has been held in Qianjin Forced Labor Camp, where she has been severely abused. She has suffered extremely high blood pressure along with excruciating pain in her stomach. Her life is in imminent danger even as she is undergoing emergency treatment at the Daoli District Chinese Medicine Hospital.

At around 10:00 p.m. on February 28, 2009, eight or nine police officers from the Taibaozhuang Police Station in the Xiashan District of Weifang City climbed over the wall to break into Mr. Sun Huaimiao's home in the Baojiaying area. They forcibly took Mr. Sun to the Taibaozhuang Police Station that night. He was transferred to a facility in Weifang City the next day. His family was notified that he was to serve 15 months of forced labor.

At around 2:00 p.m. on March 19, Ms. Liang Xiangjiao was taken into custody by officers from the Minzu Street Police Station while posting self-adhesive signs in the Jijiazui area in the Jianghan District, Wuhan City. Her whereabouts are unknown. Officers rejected her family's demand for her release when they went to the police station.

At around 5:00 a.m. on March 24, Ms. Yuan Xinying was taken into custody by officers from the Longhua Police Station while she was posting signs. Her children went to the police station demanding her release that afternoon, but their request was denied. More than half a dozen officers pushed Ms. Yuan into a vehicle in her children's presence. She was taken to the Xili Brainwashing Center.

Mr. Liu Lianhao, 47, works at the Tanghai Hospital. He has been persecuted for several years.

On the morning of March 9, Li Fuguo, a domestic security officer in Tanghai County, ordered three police officers to take Mr. Liu from work. The police took his personal items. He was taken to the Tangshan Detention Center and sentenced to two years of forced labor.

Ms. Luo Shiliu, around 45 years old, lives in Shanwei City. On the evening of March 16, she was taken to the Sanshui Brainwashing Center by members of the Shanwei City 610 Office, domestic security officers, and state security agents. There were no legal procedures followed or documents involved.

Ms. An Jinting, in her forties, is a senior high school teacher. She lives in the family quarters of the Huabei Oil Fields in Shenze County. On the evening of March 22, she was taken from her home to a facility in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province.

Ms. Li, over 60 years old, lives near the zoo in the Hanyang District, Wuhan City. On March 17, she was taken into custody by officers from the Wulidun Police Station. Her whereabouts are unknown.

A female practitioner with the given name Xiangjiao was taken into custody by officers from the Jianghan District Police Station while she was posting leaflets in the Jianghan District of Wuhan City at around 3:00 p.m. on March 19. Her whereabouts are not yet known.

At around 4:00 p.m. on March 10 Ms. Li Zefen was distributing handouts on the streets. Li Xuesong, an officer from the Chengnan Police Station, spotted her and called the police station. Officers arrived in a police vehicle and took her to the police station. Her handouts were confiscated. The police tried to coerce her into signing a paper, but she refused. The officers took pictures of her and interrogated her until 9:00 p.m. before releasing her.

On March 23, Ms. Wang Xiuyu and her sister, Ms. Wang Zhongyu, at the Wulong Gold Mine in Dandong City were unlawfully taken into custody.

Mr. Deng Xiaoming lives on Huayang Town, Shuangliu County, Sichuan Province. In June 2008 officers from the Huayang Police Station and the Shuangliu County Domestic Security Division took him from his store. He has been unlawfully held at the Shuangliu County Detention Center ever since. It has been reported that he faces trial at the Shuangliu County Court soon.

Ms. Liu Xiuping, in her sixties; Ms. Chen Aiyuan, in her fifties; and Ms. Guo Changxiang, nearly fifty years old, were taken into custody by officers from the Meigui Police Station in Pingyin County on December 26, 2008. The three practitioners have been "illegally sentenced" to 18 months of forced labor. They are being held at the Jiangshuiquan Forced Labor Camp in Jinan City, Shandong Province.

Mr. Shi Dashao, in his sixties, was taken into custody by officers from the Lushan County Domestic Security Division and the Hexiang Police Station from his home in Lushan County on September 9, 2008. He had been unlawfully held at the Lushan County Detention Center for over five months.

In February 2009 the Lushan County Court sentenced him to ten years in prison. On February 19, he was take to Xinmi Prison in Henan Province. After months of unlawful imprisonment, Mr. Shi has become weak. Still, he has been forced to engage in hard labor.

On the morning of March 22, 2009, Mr. Liu Duanduan was taken from his home by officers from the local police department and officials at the nitrogen factory where he works. The police also searched his home.

On the evening of March 24, 2009, Ms. Sun Cuiqing's daughter, Ms. Ning Dandan, went to visit her mother at the Tanghai Detention Center. Ms. Ning, 25, has just graduated from college. Her mother has been unlawfully sentenced to prison. Li Fuguo and other officers did not allow her to see her mother and instead took her into custody. The officers then went to her home and confiscated cassette tapes of Falun Gong lectures, calligraphy works, and prosecution papers related to Ms. Sun's case. Ms. Ning's whereabouts are unknown.
