(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Li Jinpeng, a Falun Gong practitioner from Beijing, was arrested by police from the Haidian Branch of the Beijing Public Security Bureau on December 26, 2007. On February 21, 2009, he was sentenced to five years in prison by the Haidian District Court after being held illegally for sixteen months. Li Jinpeng's family members have hired an attorney for him, and now a second trial is scheduled.
Mr. Li Jinpeng
Mr. Li Jinpeng, born in Beijing, is 42 years old. He originally worked at the Beijing City Cultural Relics Bureau, and later he opened his own company. He began practicing Falun Gong in 1996.
In June 2000, Li Jinpeng was detained for fifteen days after he practiced the Falun Gong exercises in Zizhuyuan Park. He was sentenced to six years in prison on October 20, 2000, because he printed Falun Dafa materials. In Qianjin Prison in Beijing, Li Jinpeng was shocked by an electric baton and beaten. He was released on October 19, 2006.
On December 26, 2007, police in the Haidian Public Security Bureau, the 610 Office, and the Wanshou Temple Police Station arrested Mr. Li again because he hung up a banner saying, "Heaven will Eliminate the CCP - Quit the Party for Your Safety." He was detained in the Haidian Police Branch Detention Center. His parents, who are in their eighties, miss their son very much, and they also need him to look after them. According to someone who was detained in the same room with Li Jinpeng, Li Jinpeng held a hunger strike during his detention. Later, since his health had deteriorated, he was taken to an emergency center. Police had used all kinds of methods on him during interrogations. A once-healthy Li Jinpeng was tortured to the point of being almost blind and suffering from liver disease and edema all over his body. His life is in danger.
The local authorities tried to send him to a forced labor camp, but he was was sent back because of his poor health. Detention Center Director Li, who was in charge of releasing inmates for medical treatment, refused to approve Li Jinpeng's release for medical attention, even though continuing to hold him was clearly against regulations.
On January 21, 2008, the police bureau decided to sentence Mr. Li to a forced labor camp for two years and six months. During this period, Mr. Li Jinpeng actively resisted the persecution and the attempted brainwashing. After being detained for one year and four months, he was sentenced to five years imprisonment.
