(Clearwisdom.net) In a brilliant show on Saturday, Shen Yun Performing Arts played to a packed house in Vancouver, British Columbia and drew a standing ovation from the enthusiastic audience.

Dr. Lipsey, an author and emeritus professor of economics at Simon Fraser University, and his wife Mrs. Lipsey, were impressed by Shen Yun's portrayal of traditional Chinese culture.

"The visual experience was just wonderful. It's like being transported to somewhere up there. Very beautifully staged," said Dr. Lipsey.

Mrs. Lipsey, a painter and artist, was particularly thrilled with the colorful and lively "Dance of the Yi," a traditional dance from one of China's largest ethnic groups. "They were like butterflies, they were just like butterflies, they were exquisite. The timing was so precise--very, very challenging."

"The hosts were very useful for people like us. You can visualize it because they have told you something about it. The message was very clear. Those dancers in black were terrifying. It's frightening to see something like that, because it was so well done. The messages came across very clear," said Mrs. Lipskey.

Dr. David Suzuki is perhaps best known for his work on the long-running CBC program, "The Nature of Things." In addition to earning his doctorate in zoology from the University of Chicago, he has received 22 honorary degrees and a number of international awards, including Canada's highest civilian honor, the Order of Canada, to which he is a Companion, the highest of the three ranks to the order.

Dr. Suzuki said, "It's quite staggering--the costumes are sensational. The physical athleticism of the performance is quite impressive. What they're doing with their performance and pirouettes, very impressive physically. My sister was a dancer in New York with Martha Graham, so I know the kind of athleticism that is needed to do those kinds of dances."

Dr. Suzuki went on to explain how in awe he was of "Drummers of the Tang Court." "They're very impressive. These men, they're not just drumming but they are performing some very great physical feats."

Dr. Suzuki was impressed by Shen Yun's animated backdrops, "The use of the backscreen with actual moving figures [was] very, very well done. To see people coming out of the sky and then coming up onto the stage. Very enjoyable performance."

"It was a spectacular show," said Dr. Baker, describing the show he attended with his wife, Dr. Frazer. "What I liked about the show was the tremendous variety," said Dr. Baker.

Dr. Baker helped found Simon Fraser University, contributed to the establishment of the community college system in Canada, and became first president of the University of Prince Edward Island. He is also a recipient of the Order of Canada.

Dr. Frazer said the the show was, "...visually magnificent. The dancing was extremely athletic and disciplined. I thought the Monkey King sequence was quite exciting, I guess I wanted athleticism."

Dr. Baker said he had visited China in 1974 and seen the type of performances put on there. "There was much more propaganda then. This was when Mao was still in power. So we saw things like the Red Army women advancing. A lot of it was strongly propaganda, no question about it."
