(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Yang Guihua, 52 years old, is a resident of Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province. Before she began to practice Falun Gong she suffered from a number of physical problems, including arthritis. She tried both Western and Chinese medicine for treatment, but they proved to be unsuccessful. Ms. Yang found Falun Gong in 1995, and after she started practicing she recovered her good health rapidly.
On the morning of September 16, 2008, Ms. Yang and another Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Chunfang were reported to police while they were clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to people on a bus. They were then illegally arrested and mistreated by police.
The police from the Helin Police Station of Zhenjiang City took the two practitioners to the police station to be searched, and interrogated them. The police involved in the interrogation were Shi Lei, Zhao Pu and Tian. Later, officials from the local 610 Office and Liu, a policeman from the National Security Team, and others ransacked Ms. Yang's home and took away her Falun Gong books and tapes. The police announced that these articles were "broadcasting materials." They also took away 110 yuan with information written on the bills regarding the truth about Falun Gong. After Ms. Yang and Ms. Wang were detained in the police station for 60 hours they were sent to a detention center by police, where they were held for 26 days.
Because Ms. Yang's family members went to the police station many times to try to take her back, the police agreed to release her with the trial pending, but they demanded that the family pay for her release in advance. Having no other choice, her family paid the 1,500 yuan extortion, and the police release Ms. Yang.
After she got back home the police harassed Ms. Yang constantly by telephone. In addition, the police from the National Security Team went to her residence and demanded that she stay home, subject to being monitored by her family members and neighbors. The normal life of their neighbors was badly disturbed.
In another case of persecution, in September 5, 2008, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Bao Shuangdi and Ms. Fu Zhuhua were arrested and detained. According to insiders, the police forcibly administered unknown drugs to them during their detention. Now Ms. Fu suffers from serious hypertension, and Ms. Bao is also feeling ill.
