Falun Dafa Associations of Canada
Oct. 29, 1999
The persecution on Falun Dafa from the Chinese government has again been escalated. They are now attempting to label Falun Gong as an "evil religion" through legislation and are drawing up new laws to suppress it more severely. All these are done in continuous to their already months long intensive defamation campaign using fabricated stories and distorted facts, as well as their brutal ill-treatment towards innocent Falun Dafa practitioners.
By declaring Falun Dafa as an "evil religion", China has in fact extended their persecution internationally to all Falun Dafa practitioners in over 30 countries, including Canada, who follow the same teaching. As Falun Dafa practitioners, we call for your help in letting the truth about Falun Dafa known to the world and in rectifying the situation peacefully and with justice.
For Public Awareness
- Falun Gong is a traditional practice for mind and body improvement. It promotes a peaceful and healthy way of living through the its teaching of the principle of "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance" and 5 sets of gentle exercises. Practitioners from all walks of life and all culture background around the world enjoy it for their self-improvement of health, moral values and spiritual growth.
- Falun Dafa is voluntary and free of charge. People come and go freely. There is no membership or registration.
- Falun Dafa is not a religion. There is no religious rituals, no worshipping, no churches or temples.
- Falun Dafa is apolitical, it is not against any government or has any political interest. The central theme of the practice is "Truth Compassion Tolerance", people become better citizens and more caring individuals and family members through the practice. Therefore Falun Dafa is beneficial not only to individuals, but also to all countries and society as a whole.
- The Chinese government is a communist regime which is atheist in nature. It does not tolerate people with traditional values or faiths. It is paranoid that people believe in anything other than the communist ideology. The theist content and the popularity of Falun Dafa (once estimated 70+ million practitioners in China) upset and scared the Chinese leadership.
- The so-call legislative laws that the Chinese People's Congress drafted against Falun Gong is legally invalid. Those so-called legislative lawmakers are not voted to offices by the Chinese people to begin with. Not even the communist leaders in China are voted to the offices. The so-called lawmakers are only following the orders issued by the communist leaders instead of respecting the will of the people.
- China's brutal persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners, as well as those so-called laws that they drafted against Falun Gong, severely violates their own Constitution and the Unit Nation's Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in both of where the rights to freedom of beliefs, expression, and assembly are guaranteed. What the Chinese communist leaders have done to Falun Gong practitioners are illegal and inhumane. People should have the basic human rights of having faiths and beliefs by their own choice. People should have the right to make a just appeal to the government for its inhumane treatment of its own people.
- The Chinese government has laughed intensive smear campaign using fabricated stories and distorted facts to justify their brutal crackdown of Falun Gong. Such malicious defamation are not only brutal violation of basic human rights of its own citizens, but also severe persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners all around world who follows the same teaching.
- The Chinese government is labeling Falun Dafa as an "evil religion". How can encouraging people to follow the righteous and precious human traditions of "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance" be called "evil"? What is wrong with having a good health and a good moral character? If the Chinese government really wants the public to know the truth, why doesn't it dare to let the public read the Falun Gong books, instead of burning them? Why should the Chinese government be scared and hide the truth from the public?
- The Chinese government accuses Falun Gong practitioners of stealing so-called classified documents. This is groundless and unfounded. After the incidence of 10,000 practitioners gathered in Beijing in April to appeal to the central government of the injustice happened to Falun Gong in Tianjing City. The Chinese government decided to suppress Falun Gong. They started their preparation work for the crackdown secretly through classified documents. Meanwhile, they issued public documents declaring that the government never against any Qigong practice and that words about their intention of outlawing Falun Gong were all rumors.
The 70 million practitioners in China were from all walks of life and all different professions and positions and many of them communist party members. When those practitioners who process, as part of their regular job and position, those classified documents that completely contrary to the government's public declarations and warrant immediate brutal suppression of Falun Gong, shouldn't they warn their fellow practitioners and the founder? Why should a government's policy regarding a peaceful and law-abiding group of its own citizen be top-secrete of the state? What the Chinese government was trying to hide from its own people then and what they want to deceive people in the world now by calling such revelation "stealing state secretes"?
- Almost entirely through word of mouth, Falun Dafa spread to over 100 million people in 30+ countries in less than 7 year. It is known for its great health benefit and moral value that brought happiness and harmony to people. Numerous young people and adults have turned away from alcohol, drugs, violence, and other bad habits and started to live a more meaningful life since they learned Falun Gong. Every true practitioner is trying to improve his/her self from his/her heart to become a better and better person in his/her family and the society. How can such a system be labeled as an "evil cult" or "evil religion"?
- We hope that the world will speak out for justice and human rights, to support precious human traditions and against the brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. We hope that the goodwill from the international community and people as a whole will bring Chinese government back to sense and resolve the current crisis in peace and justice through direct dialogue.
