October 13 is World Teachers' Day. Sixty million teachers in the world were congratulated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the International Labor Organization, the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). UN officials expressed paid tribute to the noble and challenging career of teaching.

Today, tens of thousands of teachers in China are persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) because of their belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." They are Falun Gong practitioners.

Since dictator Jiang Zemin and his followers launched a full blown persecution against Falun Gong in July 1999, numerous teachers in kindergartens, middle schools, high schools and secondary institutions in China have been arrested, illegally detained, tortured, injected with nerve-damaging drugs, even killed. Why? Because they are Falun Gong practitioners, kindhearted people who follow Falun Gong's basic teaching of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." Some of them are still working and some are retired. They live all across the country, in areas large and small, rural and urban.

The severity of the persecution is beyond words and far exceeds what most people can imagine. Many of these oppressed people are outstanding teachers. The government however, rewards their persecutors.

Many cases of the persecution of teachers are listed on the Clearwisdom/Minghui websites. I only want to list a few examples below.

Yang Yuhua, a teacher in Daqing City

Yang Yuhua and her family

Yang Yuhua was 50 years old and a teacher at No. 6 Middle School of Daqing City in Heilongjiang Province. After beginning to study Falun Gong in 1995 she benefited physically and mentally, and was cured of diabetes. After the persecution began, despite tremendous governmental pressure, she clarified the truth about the persecution to people. At midnight on April 16, 2005, six officers from the Tieren Police Department in Daqing City broke into Yang Yuhua's home, dragged her out of her bed and illegally arrested her. They also took Falun Gong books, her computer, and other things. Yang Yuhua was illegally held at the Daqing City Detention Center. She was tortured in a metal chair and was force-fed for a few days, until she urinated blood. At 10:00 a.m. on May 9 she was at the brink of death. The guards injected her with unknown drugs. She passed away at the detention center around noon on May 9, 2005.

Her family went and saw that her body was skin and bones, was covered with bruises, and many slimy lumps were stuck in her hair. Her eyes were wide open, and had sunken in. Her mouth was in the shape of a scream. She looked distressed and angry. After she passed away, the detention center authorities attempted to cover up their crime by sending her to a hospital for "emergency treatment."

Later, the judicial and legal system officials from Daqing City held an urgent meeting during which they ordered that no lawyer is allowed to investigate Yang Yuhua's death. The guards found some inmates who agreed to bear false witness. After they finished making arrangements for a false account of Yang Yuhua's death, the perpetrators notified Yang Yuhua's family on October 10. The police refused to release Yang Yuhua's body. Her relatives and friends were intercepted and interrogated by plainclothes police when they visited Yang Yuhua's family to pay their condolences. Yang Yuhua's family phone was tapped. Her family members called friends and poured out their grievances, and soon after their friends received threatening phone calls from the government.

Cai Shufen, the 65-year-old headmistress of the kindergarten affiliated with the Dalian Heavy Machinery Corporation in Liaoning Province was persecuted for a long time by persecutors from various Party agencies. The persecutors at the Dalian City Police Department, the Xigang District Police Department in Dalian City, the Xianglujiao Police Department and Xianglujiao Party Street Committee regarded her as a main target. They constantly monitored and harassed her. They illegally detained her under criminal detention and sent her to forced labor camp(s) where she was savagely tortured. Her family also lived under great pressure. Cai Shufen passed away on the morning of September 1, 2005.

Liu Limei, an associate professor at Northeast Agricultural University

Liu Limei was a 41-year-old associate professor at Northeast Agricultural University. She was arrested many times after July 20, 1999, because she persisted in her belief in Falun Gong. She was held at the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp and at the Wanjia Hospital in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, where she was brutally force-fed and injected with drugs. She held numerous protest hunger strikes. Her weight dropped to about 20 kg. (44 lbs.). She died at the detention center on August 12, 2003. The perpetrators extorted money from her family.

The following educators were also tortured to death for remaining steadfast in their practice of Falun Gong:

Yang Yanhai: an associate professor at the Chongqing Social Work Vocational College;
Ms. Deng Shangyuan: a teacher at the Dazu County Elementary School in Chongqing;
Wang Wenju: a teacher at the Tanggou Middle School in Xiuyan County, Liaoning Province;
Zhang Youzhen: principal of the Shuidong Elementary School in Biantanshui Township, Huzhu County, Qinghai Province;
Pang Fengzhi: retired teacher from No. 3 Middle School in Hailaer, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
Zhen Guizhi: teacher at the Xinli Elementary School in Siping, Jilin Province;
Li Yizhong: teacher at Wanshanzhen Village, Bailu Town, Xingzi County, Jiangxi Province;
Wang Xing: instructor at the Kunming Railroad Bureau in Yunnan Province;
Zhao Lihua: teacher at the No. 3 Middle School in the Hongjiang District, Huaihua, Hunan Province;
Zhang Shuzhen: retired teacher from the Yuanda Middle School in the Haidian District, Beijing ;
Yao Sanzhong: teacher at the Luohe City Art Normal School in Henan Province.

The torture-related deaths of more than 140 teachers or professors are listed on the Minghui website.

We must point out that the persecution and torture deaths of Falun Gong practitioners are the result of direct orders and encouragement from the CCP leadership. Sun Shaomin, head of the Ranghu Road Police Station in Daqing City, is responsible for the torture deaths of 13 Falun Gong practitioners including Gao Shuqin, an outstanding teacher from the No. 12 Middle School of Daqing City. Sun Shaomin was awarded the title "Outstanding Young Guardian."

During the past six years, many teachers who excel in their profession were forced to leave their beloved students because they practice Falun Gong.

Liu Fengchun, a Level One Teacher in Jilin City

Mr. Liu Fengchun, 31, was a music teacher at the Changyi District Elementary School in Jilin City, Jilin Province. He was beloved among his students and was a "Top-Ten Star Teacher" of the Jilin City Art Education Research Experiment Teaching, a "District Outstanding Teacher," a Teaching Director at the Changyi District Lianhua Elementary School, and a #1 Ranked Teacher. He found a new life in Falun Gong. He took his job seriously and treats people sincerely. He has received many awards and honors, including the Jilin Province Informational Education Outstanding Contribution Award, and the Jilin City Basic Skills Contest of Elementary School and Middle School Teachers. Nevertheless, because he remains firm in his practice of Falun Gong, the school authorities at first forced him to quit teaching and instead work as a sales clerk and a janitor. Eventually, the school authorities forced him to resign.

Ms. Wang Chunmei, about 45 years old, was a teacher at the No. 3 Elementary School in Chicheng Town, Chicheng County, Hebei Province. She was the head teacher of the third grade and had been teaching for over twenty years. After she started practicing Falun Gong, she strictly conducted herself according to "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance." In addition to the regular curriculum, she taught her students the principles of how to be a good person. She won the hearts of her students as well as the trust of her colleagues. At noon on March 31, 2005, perpetrators from the Chicheng County Police Department abducted Wang Chunmei. In the afternoon of March 31, when the students in Wang Chunmei's class learned why their teacher was absent, they refused to accept another teacher and asked for Wang Chunmei back. About forty students walked over a mile to Wang Chunmei's home. They were greeted by a locked door. They cried and were reluctant to leave.

The persecution of teachers reflects the insidious brutality of the persecution of Falun Gong by the CCP.

Wu Shihai was a teacher at the Zhaojue County Ethnic Middle School in Zhaojue County, Liangshan District, Sichuan Province. Because he practiced Falun Gong he was continually persecuted during the past six years. He was not allowed to teach. He was monitored and extorted of money, illegally interrogated and deprived of freedom under criminal detention, illegally sent to forced labor camp(s), subjected to corporal punishment, "tied with ropes," force-fed, and hung up and shocked with electric batons. In April 2003, he was sent to the No. 3 People's Hospital in Mianyang City, a mental institute. The persecutors were from the Xinhua Forced Labor Camp in Sichuan Province. He was injected with nerve-damaging drugs and was forced to take medications, which resulted in lethargic mental reactions, slow movement, facial paralysis, and drooling and numbness which lasted a prolonged period of time.

Between July 20, 1999 and August 2004, Wu Jinping, deputy secretary of the Shaojue County Party Committee, Yang Tongcai, secretary of the Political and Judiciary Committee, and Tian Maoqi from the National Security Division monitored him. Other persecutors from the police department, the police station, the Cultural Education Bureau and the school were also involved in monitoring Wu Shihai. They ordered Zhang Li, the secretary of the school's Party Committee to deduct expenses from his salary that these perpetrators had incurred during Wu Shihai's persecution.

Yuan Lin, 50, is a graduate studies teacher at Beijing University who was illegally detained twice for two months, for persisting in her practice of Falun Gong. She was arrested in December 2001 and was secretly held at the detention center of the Seventh Division of the Beijing Public Security Bureau. During that time she was sent to the Beijing Police Hospital four times. Ms. Yuan is over 1.70 meters (5 feet 8 inches) tall. She was tortured to the point where she weighed less than 88 pounds and couldn't even walk steadily. After suffering from torture for nine months, in September 2002 Ms. Yuan Lin was illegally sentenced to eight years of imprisonment. On May 20, 2004, in a meeting with nearly a thousand attendees, she exposed how guards at the Beijing Women's Prison beat and abused Falun Gong practitioners. The prison guards tortured her in retaliation.

The CCP established the 610 Office system to persecute Falun Gong. The 610 Office includes branch offices at the district and even street level, as well as in secondary institutions. The 610 Offices conspire with each other to arrest Falun Gong practitioners and harass their families.

Ms. Xiao Xiaowen, a teacher at the No. 4 Middle School in the Wuqing District, Tianjin City lost her job and was separated from her family due to the persecution. She decided to live away from her home to avoid being persecuted. At around 10:00 a.m. on July 14, 2005, as she went to Nanlou Police Department in Yangcun Town, the Wuqing District to get her ID, one officer illegally detained her for over ten hours, during which time he body-searched her, kicked and struck her head, and threatened and intimidated her, until Xiao Xiaowen lost consciousness. He falsely claimed Xiao Xiaowen passed out because she practices Falun Gong.

Practitioner Mr. Yang Xianguo, 43, from Changsha City, Hunan Province, is an Associate Professor and Library Dean at Hunan Normal University. In the afternoon of June 6, 2005, Changsha City 610 Office personnel directed the West District Government 610 Office and the Hunan Normal University 610 Office employees to lure Mr. Yang out of his home. A dozen persecutors attacked him and put him in a car parked on the street and quickly drove off.

They took him to the notorious Laodaohe Brainwashing Center in Changsha City. Dozens of persecutors from the Changsha City 610 Office, Lulu District 610 Office, Hunan Normal University and the street committee walked back and forth inside the brainwashing center. In the evening, Yang Xianguo had severe pain in his right leg. His ankle was dislocated and he could not urinate. Because of his condition, the next day they took him to the Changsha City Central Hospital. He was diagnosed with a severe fracture in his right leg, and bone fragments were embedded inside his ankle. The tendons in his right leg were severely torn. The meniscus on one of his knees was possibly injured. He was unable to relieve himself, and the doctor suggested he be hospitalized.

The CCP spent large amounts of money building brainwashing centers, and devotes great manpower to carrying out the persecution. Many teachers suffered mental collapses that later led to death.

The night of his arrest, the aforementioned associate professor Yang Xianguo from Hunan Normal University was taken into a room at Laodaohe Brainwashing Center in Changsha City. There were three beds in the room - one for a Falun Gong practitioner and the other two for the "chaperones" assigned to watch the practitioner.

According to a previous report, the local 610 Office spent tens of millions of yuan to build the Laodaohe Brainwashing Center to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Each practitioner is held in a separate room and is never allowed to leave the room. Metal bars are installed outside each room, and the rooms are separated from each other. A large metal fence is at the entrance of each floor. All the buildings at the brainwashing centers are surrounded by high steel wire on all four sides. There is only one large, iron gate from which people enter and leave the center that is guarded around the clock.

Practitioner Mr. Li Deshan was a teacher from Dezhou City, Shandong Province who was deprived of sleep, savagely beaten, hung up while handcuffed, force-fed water and alcohol and insulted at the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp, in addition to having been brainwashed. He suffered a mental collapse and passed away in August 2002. He left behind his wife, elderly parents and his young child.

Ms. Li Huiyun, 41, is an associate professor at the College of Mechanical and Electric Engineering of Hebei Technology University in Hebei Province. She won numerous domestic and international academic awards. The perpetrators at the university persecuted her because she practiced Falun Gong. They tried to force her to write a guarantee statement, they fired her, didn't allow her to leave the country to attend academic conferences, forbade her to travel to Hong Kong, didn't allow her to give lectures and forced her to work as a janitor, cleaning stairs. On February 24, 2004, Li Huiyun and her husband Song Hongshui were again arrested and sent for brainwashing. Li Huiyun was physically tortured and mentally tormented. She was deprived of sleep for a few days, burnt with a cigarette, struck on the head and insulted. She eventually suffered a mental collapse. In August 2004, Li Huiyun was sent to a mental hospital to be further persecuted. Forty-five days later she was illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor and was sent to Division 5 at the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp. This brainwashing center has the official name Hebei Provincial Capital Legal Education and Training Center.

When the world celebrates Teachers' Day and pays respects to our children's "soul shapers" let us remember the teachers in China who persist in their beliefs in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," fearless in the face of evil. The persecution of these teachers directly harms the children in China, while the teachers' perseverance brings honor to their profession.

Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp enslaves Falun Gong practitioners and others serving terms as patients in the forced labor camp in order to make more profit. Practitioners are also tortured there.

Policeman Li Xuejun, who is in his 30s, was a supervisor at the camp. He persecuted Falun Gong with much enthusiasm, and was therefore promoted to division head. For his own financial benefit, he resorted to all means to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. As division head, he profited by frequently "buying" patients who were scheduled for release, or whose terms were canceled due to illness, to enslave them and count them as additional laborers.

The first group of nineteen included four Falun Gong practitioners. The second group of forty also included four Falun Gong practitioners. All of them were patients that did not meet the physical requirements to work in the forced labor camp. Those responsible for buying and picking up the patients include Shi Jiangxia and Li Yanji, among others.

After these patients were bought back to the labor camp, the guards did not allow them to see a doctor or ask their relatives to send money. The patients were only given a little medicine, or if they did not have money, not even that. If they were able to do light work, they were forced to work in the carpet factory managed by the forced labor camp. Whether they could work or not, the prison gained by counting them as laborers. Many of the patients had infectious diseases such as syphilis and hepatitis.

As a rule, highly infectious patients were never allowed to go downstairs or stand close to guards in the labor camp. They had to stay three meters away from the guards when they talked to them. The labor camp officials required all of the infectious patients to stay with Falun Gong practitioners. Infectious patients were in every ward occupied by Falun Gong practitioners.

On around July 20, 2005, when supervisors were scheduled to inspect the forced labor camp, Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp officials hid their criminal activity by transforming the prison into a seemingly comfortable place, with sofas and flowers in the lobby, clean. white sheets on the beds, and no disabled or paralyzed patients to be seen - they were all transferred to a big manure pit several hundred meters away

Division head Yang Zemin called all the Falun Gong practitioners and inmates together and threatened them so that they would cooperate when the supervisor came for the inspection. They were required to lie and say that the labor camp staff treated them very well. Practitioners who cooperated were told they would not suffer further efforts to "transform" them.

Yet that same day, the prison guards secretly dragged two practitioners very far away, where the ostriches are fed. One of the practitioners was brutally force-fed by labor camp medical staff Bai Helin and others. Another practitioner, Li Cuiping, was tortured by guards Chang Junliang and Fang Bao with a high voltage electric baton.

Such tragedies occur in Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp every day.

One day in mid-April 2004, several Falun Gong practitioners detained in the Second Division of the Wangcun Women's Forced Labor Camp in Shandong Province carried out a brave deed. The women included Ms. Zheng Meiying, Ms. Zhang Zhenhua, Ms. Zhou Huifen and Ms. Liu Xixiang. They performed their act fearlessly in protest of the persecution! They appealed for Falun Gong by shouting, "Falun Dafa is great!" Their voices shocked the evil in heaven and on earth. However, the labor camp authorities initiated a round of persecution, unprecedented in its evilness, against the practitioners. To start it all off, male police officers with police batons, electric batons, and other torture equipment were brought in. All Falun Gong practitioners detained at the labor camp were then brought into the lobby and it was announced that severe punishment was to commence. They said the practitioners who shouted, in particular, were subject to confinement in small cells.

The police officers then handcuffed the practitioners, dragged them, pulled them and violently carried them. The terror brought about by the wicked police officers' intimidation and yelling is hard to describe. Among the police officers, Zhao Wenhui, a female Section Chief, was particularly evil. Zhao dragged practitioner Ms. Zhou Huifen and personally singled her out from the group. Then they handcuffed the practitioners in the bathrooms, by the staircases, or even worse, in confinement cells built specifically for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

There are many different methods the guards use to handcuff practitioners. The methods include handcuffing and hanging, and handcuffing behind the back with one arm extended over the shoulder. As part of the latter method, some guards stuff a big pad between the practitioner's back and arms so that the practitioner can't stand straight. If she moves, the big pad would fold around the head, making it difficult to breathe. Some wicked persons even handcuff practitioners so ruthlessly that they are unable to stand up or sit down. Some practitioners' arms were stretched straight, which can cause disability. When handcuffed like this, it is impossible to wash the face or brush the teeth, let alone take a shower. Even using the bathroom is very difficult.

Ms. Zheng Meiying, who is in her 60s, was handcuffed and held in the confinement cell for the longest time. She was rarely seen for over three months. Those who had seen her said that her hands were swollen with big terrifying blisters everywhere from the handcuff torture. Her feet and legs were also swollen so badly that she couldn't stand upright.

Practitioner Ms. Shao Xirong has been handcuffed in the stairway for a long time. She was very good-looking with a nice figure when first sent here, but she is now very emaciated from the brutal torture.

Ms. Sun Kezhen was deprived of sleep for days and her activities were severely limited. Xie Yunqiu, a "collaborator" who helped Wang Huili persecute Falun Gong practitioners, saw Ms. Sun asleep and clipped her eyelids up with a clamp. Collaborators who have been spying on practitioners and severely limiting practitioners' activities include Jiao Fangyu from the Shandong Laiwu Steel International Corp., Song Guorong from Shouguang County, and Lu Yutao from Zibo City. They have done all kinds of evil deeds in the labor camp. Because of their spying on practitioners and aiding the evildoers, Falun Gong practitioners suffered torture just for giving a brief look to one another.

As soon as she was sent into the labor camp, practitioner Ms. Xu Jinying was held in a room under the staircase and secretly tortured. Ms. Xu conducted a righteous act with righteous thoughts by carrying out a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The guards, as usual, inserted a tube into her nose and attempted to force-feed her. The scene of blood dripping everywhere was terrifying. When Ms. Xu pulled the tube out with her hand, deputy division head Li Ling handcuffed her to keep her from doing it again and continued to force-feed her. This torture continued for more than 20 days, and Ms. Xu was brought to the brink of death. For fear of being held responsible for their acts, the labor camp authorities released her.

In the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp, Faun Gong practitioners' righteous acts to protest the vicious persecution have been emerging here and there nonstop.

After the retirement of division head Wang Huili in September 2004, Zhao Wenhui assumed her position. Zhao Wenhui very quickly gained the reputation and name of "mortal evildoer."

Zhao Wenhui is about 1.8 meters (5 ft. 11 in.) tall. She often appears without warning behind people's backs or next to a window, spying and secretly recording the names of those who have violated the so-called labor camp rules and disciplines, so as to justify harsher punishments for the practitioners by prolonging their terms or overloading them with labor duties. Sometimes she also does this publicly to collect evidence for further persecution. Zhao once sent practitioner Cheng Aiyun, who was in her 30s, to the "senior's group" so as to hand her over to inmates such as Hu Yanan for strict punishment and even more severe persecution.

The senior's group was established by the former division head Wang Huili. The practitioners held there were around 50 years old, with the oldest being almost 70. The practitioners comprising this group had refused to cooperate with the evildoers in doing any labor or writing anything down. Instead, they sometimes even practiced the Falun Gong exercises. When Wang Huili held her position, she had persecuted the practitioners many times. In the end, for fear of taking any responsibilities in case they died, she established a senior's group, with the aim of using a different form to persecute the older ladies.

After Zhao Wenhui assumed the position of division head, she extended her vicious persecution policies to the senior's group. The first thing she did was report the information she had collected about Ms. Cheng Aiyun to the labor camp authorities, saying that she was lazy and couldn't finish her labor assignments. Then she said that Ms. Cheng didn't pay attention to sanitation. The fact is, they persecute Falun Gong practitioners by not allowing them to use the bathroom. But Zhao's report says that Ms. Cheng Aiyun asked for a bathroom break and was denied, so she urinated into the garbage can without authorization. She said that Ms. Cheng Aiyun had violated the rules and regulations of the labor camp and should be punished. As a result, the labor camp authorities approved severe punishment for Ms. Cheng Aiyun.

Ms. Cheng Aiyun was restrained in the bathroom for a long period of time. In the cold winter, she was handcuffed onto two separate ice-cold pipes into a position where she could not sit down or stand up straight. They also did not allow her to wear warm clothing and she was freezing and shaking continuously. She was detained in a state of freezing cold for more than one month. Using the toilet was even more extremely limited. She was forced to urinate in her pants when she couldn't hold it any longer. According to inmates who saw her, "Cheng Aiyun has suffered the most hardships. Her clothes stink so badly and her body is itching so much, but she can't reach anywhere to scratch because she is handcuffed, and the handcuffs tighten more and more as she moves her hands. Actually, they can no longer actually be called "hands." Moreover, she can't stand straight any longer because of being forced to bend over for so long."

Sometimes the authorities tied her up and straightened her body by force, saying that it was good for her to straighten her back. Because Wang Huili had starved Ms. Cheng Aiyun for six days in the past, the evildoer Zhao followed her and often kept Ms. Cheng from eating anything for days from time to time. Then all of a sudden, they would force Ms. Cheng to eat all the food that had been accumulated during those days. Ms. Cheng's body and mind were severely devastated by the ongoing torture and started to show signs of mental collapse.

Among the other practitioners held in the senior's group, Ms. Zheng Meiying was sent to another division for brainwashing and persecution, Ms. Ma Yulian, who is in her sixties, was kept in the duty office, Ms. Wang Lulian was kept in the office, and Ms. Zhang Zhenhua and Ms. Wu Peixiang were kept in other places for brainwashing and persecution.

Zhao Wenhui forced Falun Gong practitioners to do excessive labor. She forced them to make carpets during the daytime and wrap copper coils at other times. The huge workload she assigned was impossible to finish even if one worked from 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. or midnight. Oftentimes practitioners had to awaken at 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. to start working. If one still could not finish, Zhao Wenhui would punish them by extending the detention term, or by other means. On the one hand, she would give them excessive work assignments, and on the other hand she would say sarcastically, "The only reason for your not being able to finish is because of working too slowly. You're bound to finish as long as you speed up. The labor camp authorities do not encourage working overtime, so you should all follow the routine and go to bed at 10:00 p.m. and no later than 11:00 p.m."

Wang Huili and Zhao Wenhui transferred the Falun Gong practitioners who protested the persecution by refusing to do labor to the drug control group and extended their terms for up to six months. Then they continued to assign them labor, but divided it up among the drug addicts. They knew the inmates dared not to refuse even if they disliked it, and could only vent their anger on the practitioners. They not only added to the drug addict inmates' workloads, but also used some of them to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. When practitioner Ms. Zhang Wanxia was beaten by the inmates and seriously injured, evildoer Wang Huili did not punish the inmates. Instead, she handcuffed Ms. Zhang Wanxia in the bathroom and abused her. Another practitioner, Ms. Lu Renjuan, was also transferred to the drug addict group. The inmates often verbally humiliated her. The inmates who beat Ms. Zhang Wanxia included Zhang Hui, Hu Yanan, Han Miao, Hu Xiaojing and Liu Jia. Incited by the police, they are absolutely lawless.

The vicious deeds done by evildoers Wang and Zhao that we just described are only the tip of the iceberg in this forced labor camp. The practitioners mentioned above are only the few cases that are known. The way that these people abuse, torment, and torture practitioners under the persecution is concealed. Therefore, many persecution methods are unknown.

The guards responsible for the persecution atrocities are Wang Huili, Zhao Wanhui, Li Ling, Fang Xiuzhen, Dong Xinying, Zhao Li, Sun Zhenhong, Shi Wei, Wang Yin, Liu Ying, Li Qilian and Song Lijuan.

I was arrested in 2003 after informants reported me to the police. Officers from the Yong'an Police Station and some from the Jiamusi City Police Department took me to the detention center. My child was not even ten years old, and my husband had died several years prior. Being left at home alone unattended, my child was mentally traumatized.

I was injected with drugs that damaged my central nervous system. Suddenly I started losing my memory, and I could not move my arms, legs, hands or feet. I could not even recall what my child looked like. My whole body was paralyzed, and I could not see anything clearly. Even in this physical condition, the authorities went ahead and sentenced me to three years in prison. But the prison officials refused to admit me since I was paralyzed.

After an examination, it was confirmed that I was suffering from neuropathy in the peripheral nervous system. Rejected by the prison officials, I was held for over a month after being taken back to the detention center. My family strongly demanded my release. They asked the police authorities how they could have abused a healthy person to such an extent. The authorities could not come up with any answer and let me go.

I could not take care of myself due to paralysis. My child had to go to school, and we didn't have any source of income. My family members went to the 610 Office, the Forced Labor Reeducation Institute, and the Political and Judiciary Committee to ask them to release my younger sister, who was being unlawfully held in a forced labor camp, so that she could take care of my child and me. However, the officials at these organizations referred to each other, and none was forthcoming with any affirmative answer.

My sister has been sent to a forced labor camp twice since 1999, spending over five years there. She has suffered all kinds of inhumane torture in the labor camp simply for refusing to give up her belief in Falun Gong. She can also not take care of her own daily needs, and remains in a very weakened condition. When she stands, both her legs shake. She can only move her arms.

Qingdao Falun Gong Practitioner Wang Chenglin is currently imprisoned illegally in Jinan Prison, Shandong Province. For the past six months, the prison has prohibited Wang's family members from visiting her, and they are uncertain as to whether or not she is still alive. In early August, the prison staff notified Wang's family members that she was on a hunger strike, and that she had already shown signs of a mental collapse, as she sometimes babbled randomly. Even so, they still prohibited Wang's family members from visiting her. According to other sources, Wang Chenglin is either dead or on the brink of death.

Ms. Wang Chenglin, 40, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Qingdao City, Shandong Province. After starting Falun Gong practice in 2000, she underwent a major physical and spiritual renewal. For clarifying the truth, she has been illegally arrested and imprisoned twice by the Qingdao City Public Security Bureau. After being released, she was forced to leave her home to avoid further persecution. In November 2002, she was once again detained by the Anqiu City Public Security Bureau, and had ten thousand yuan extorted from her before being released. In April 2003, while distributing truth clarification materials, she was again arrested and sentenced to eleven years in prison, and is currently in Jinan Prison in Shandong Province.

Since January 2004, Wang Chenglin's family members have gone to the prison eight times, but they have only been allowed to see her on three of those occasions. Her family members have not seen her at all since March 2005. In April 2005, Wang's sister went to the prison to visit her, but the prison team leader refused, saying that Wang had broken prison rules and was in isolation. In early August, Wang's sister went to the prison again, and this time, the prison team leader told her that Wang Chenglin was currently on a hunger strike so she could not see her. Moreover, he said that Wang had lost her sanity and that she babbled senselessly at times. Wang Chenglin's family members are very worried, and have heard from other sources that she has been tortured to death or to the brink of death.

In addition to Wang Chenglin, nine other Falun Gong practitioners are also imprisoned in the Jinan Prison and are being subjected to the same torture. When Wang Chenglin's sisters tried to visit her in prison again some time later, not only did the prison refuse to let them see Wang Chenglin, but they also blocked them from filing an official complaint to the local People's Procuratorate. It is uncertain as to whether Wang Chenglin is even alive right now.

We urgently appeal to the international community to regard this issue with great concern. We request that an immediate investigation be launched to find out the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners who are detained in the Jinan Prison of Shandong Province. This would hopefully compel the Chinese Communist Party to release all illegally imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners in prisons across China immediately, and to restore the good reputation of Falun Gong.

Mr. Zhang Aiquan and Ms. Wang Mingyun were illegally arrested by the police from Huantai County, Zibo City, Shandong Province, nearly six months ago. They are now awaiting an illegal trial.

Mr. Zhang Aiquan originally worked in the Traffic Division of the Shengli Oil Field Binhai Public Security Bureau. In 1999, he was a Grade 3 Superintendent and his wife, Mrs. Wang Mingyun, worked at the Monitoring Division of the Dongxin Oil Extracting Factory at the Shengli Oil Field. After the couple learned Falun Gong they wanted to become better people by following the practice's principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." The positive changes in both of them won the couple high praise from their colleagues.

However, the Chinese Communist Party members, 610 Office personnel, policemen from the Binhai Public Security Bureau, and lawless officials randomly persecute good people such as these. In July 2000, Mr. Zhang Aiquan's house was ransacked by more than 40 police officers because Mr. Zhang handed out truth-clarification materials. He was placed in the Shengli Oil Field Detention Center and shackled for the entire day. At the same time, Mr. Zhang Aiquan's wife was arrested and taken to the Shihua Guest House of the Well Logging Company at Shengli Oil Field, where she was persecuted for more than a month.

In order to cover their crimes of persecuting Mr. Zhang Aiquan, officials from the Binhai Public Security Bureau transferred him to the Dongxin Oil Extracting Factory, where his wife worked, and then instructed the officials there to send Mr. Zhang Aiquan to forced labor for three years. Mr. Zhang had to leave behind a bedridden elderly parent and a daughter still in school.

In May 2005, when police officers from the Huantai County Police Department of Zibo City went to Shengli Oil Field to arrest Falun Gong practitioners, the Binhai Public Security Bureau actively cooperated by chasing down Mr. Zhang Aiquan and arresting him. The Binhai police also allowed the Huantai County Police to take Mr. Zhang Aiquan to the Huantai County Police Department for further persecution. The same night that they arrested Mr. Zhang Aiquan, the officials secretly arrested his wife, Mrs. Wang Mingyun, by climbing over the wall around their home. They also ransacked the house and confiscated a computer, a car and other articles.

After arresting Mr. Zhang and his wife, the police from Huantai Police Station also arrested an employee from the Goods and Materials Company of Shengli Oil Field, Mr. Yu Desheng. They grabbed the computer Mr. Yu's son used for school, cash saved for tuition, and Mr. Yu's car. Following Mr. Yu's arrest the police arrested senior computer engineers Zheng Ruihuan and Liu Yinglan from the Computer Center of Shengli Oil Field, and also ransacked their homes.

Mr. Zhang Aiquan, Mrs. Wang Mingyun, and Mr. Yu Desheng are all being detained at the Huantai County Detention Center, where they have been inhumanly tortured. Clothing secretly smuggled out by Mr. Zhang, was covered in bloodstains. The officials are attempting to illegally sentence Mr. Zhang Aiquan, Mrs. Wang Mingyun and Mr. Yu Desheng.

Ms. Zhang Wenjun, 69, a retiree of Jianshe Industry Group Corp. from Chongqing City, was persecuted to death.

She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. She had been steadfast in the practice and continuous in her truth clarification about Falun Gong. Ms. Zhang previously had trouble communicating with others, but one day she went to the Xiejiawan Police Station to clarify the truth to the officers there. She disclosed the facts of the Tianamen self-immolation and explained to them the benefits she had received from practicing Falun Gong. The police officers listened to her without any sign of disproval.

Between Summer and Autumn 2004, police from the Xiejiawan Police Station illegally arrested Zhang Wenjun and sent her to the Maojiashan Women's Forced Labor Camp in Jiangbei City for two years of forced labor. Due to high blood pressure, she was sent back home for medical treatment. However, she was persecuted by Li Lisen, Wu Jiuke and other members of the 610 Office in her work unit. Her pension was unreasonably suspended and she was left without any assistance in her difficult situation. She had been monitored closely by the Public Security Bureau. Zhang Wenjun was detained in prison for over a year. She suffered from hunger and cold and had edema before she passed away in August 2005.

Mr. Ma Jianshe was a bicycle repairman who resided on 4^th Street in Xinji City. He fully recovered from diabetes by practicing Falun Gong. When the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, he walked to Beijing to clarify the truth of Falun Gong, and suffered severe beatings and abuse, and was even arrested. His home was also ransacked, and he was forced to pay a fine and put into prison. In 2003, he was arrested again and sent to a brainwashing center. His relatives were used by the Public Security Bureau to force him to give up his practice of Falun Gong. He was jailed for a month, which caused him psychological harm. After returning home, he was harassed and intimidated several times by police officers. He became ill in 2004 and passed away in June 2005.

1. [Panjin City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Jiang Xiulan Tortured to Near Death

Ms. Jiang Xiulan from Xinli Farm in Dawa County, Panjin City, has been on a hunger strike since her arrest while walking down the street in July 2005. Her life has been endangered, and she has been sent to Panjin First People's Hospital for emergency treatment.

On August 20, 2005, Mrs. Wang Xiuying's husband Mr. Yang Huaiyong was arrested by the Beilin Police Department and the Xi'an Jiaotong University. On August 4, Mr. Yang spent 20 yuan to ask someone in an Internet caf¨¦ to send the Clearwisdom website an email. The email was a request for outside help to rescue his wife, who had been arrested at work in Xi'an Jiaotong University in June.

Ms. Jiang Guixiu is a resident in Xiecheng, Zhaoyuan City. On September 1, 2005, she was arrested at work by police and sent to a brainwashing center in the Zhaoyuan Lingnan Gold Mine. Her home was subsequently searched.

Mr. Feng Liyong, from Ningjin County in Hebei Province, started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. In April 2003, he was taken to the Political Security Section of the Ningjin County Police Department. The officers wrapped his hands with electric wires to shock him. They beat him with wooden clubs and subjected him to other forms of torture. Later, he was fined 5,000 yuan before being bailed out. He was subsequently harassed over the telephone many times.

At around 2:00 p.m. on August 23, 2005, Zhang Donghai, Yan Feng, Shen Jianzhong and other officers from the Ningjin County Political Security Section searched Mr. Feng's house, and confiscated his Falun Gong books, truth-clarifying materials and other items. Mr. Feng was again arrested. He is being held in the county detention center.

After 3:00 p.m. on September 1, 2005, Liu Jun from the Gaoxin Police Station in Fengman District, Jilin City along with several other people broke into Ms. Luo Ying's house. They arrested her, her husband Mr. Song Zhaoqing, and her son Mr. Song Lijun. Their valuables, including a television set, a personal computer, cell phones and cash, were all taken away. The police continue to hold their door key after sending them to the Jilin City No. 3 Detention Center.

In July and August 2005, Ms. Zhou Qiong of the Hanwang Auto Factory, Zhang Bo of the Mianzhu phosphate fertilizer factory, Mr. Sun Xushen from Tumen Town, and Ms. Kou Juan of Chuanrun Company, who had been forced to leave her hometown due to persecution, were arrested in the Mianzhu area.

Ms. Gui Xiuhua is in her forties and is from Guilin City, Guangxi. One month ago, she was followed and arrested by state security agents while distributing truth-clarifying materials in Guilin City. She has been illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor and sent to the Nanning Women's Forced Labor Camp a week ago.

Ms. Sun Huirong from Hebei Construction Reconnaissance Research and Design Institute Property Company, about 47 years old, was arrested by the police on the evening of September 5, 2005.

Ms. Cui Baokun, 60, from Shanghai, was illegally arrested by Baoshan District police prior to the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2004 for distributing truth-clarifying materials. She was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison.

11. [Langfang City, Hebei Province] Xianghe County Elementary School Teacher Ms. Zhang Fengyuan Arrested

Ms. Zhang Fengyuan is a teacher at the Wubaihu Elementary School in Wubaihu Town, Xianghe County, Langfang City. On September 1, 2005, she was arrested by officers from the county 610 Office and people from the town's police station. She has been taken to the Langfang Brainwashing Center.

Ms. Ni Lihua, Wang Lidi, Doctor Tao and another practitioner from Wenquan in Xianning were arrested by police on September 5, 2005. Doctor Tao's house was illegally ransacked, and the officer confiscated many items including a personal computer.

At around 6:00 a.m. on September 6, 2005, Tan Jun, political director of the Yucai Street Police Station in the Chang'an District, led a group of people with unidentified affiliations to meet outside Ms. Wang Ruo'e's courtyard. They climbed over the wall of her backyard, broke the kitchen window and climbed into her house. They smashed open Ms. Wang's bedroom door, arrested her and ransacked her house. Her current whereabouts are unknown.

At 11:00 a.m. on August 15, 2005, officers from the State Security Division of the Miyun County Police Department in Beijing joined those from Nanzhai Township, Henan Province, and went to Mr. Qin Huaifeng's home in Tixiazhuang Village. The dozen or so police officers took him to the county detention center and searched his house. Mr. Qin's current whereabouts are unknown.

On August 22, 2005, Wang Yao and Pu Zheng from Kunming City were arrested by officers from the State Security Division of the Guandu Police Department in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, for brainwashing. Their family members are not allowed to visit them.

On the evening of September 3, 2005, officers from the Qiaonan Police Station and Xiangyang Police Department in Jiamusi City went to the No. 3 Hydraulic Division and searched each Falun Gong practitioner's home.

On the morning of September 4, Ms. Liu Yalan was arrested.

Mr. Zhu Hanlong, about 30 years old, works at the Jianghan District Decoration Company in Wuhan City. He distributed truth-clarifying DVDs, including the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, at his company. His colleagues turned him in. The manager asked him to submit a resignation letter. After returning home, Mr. Zhu was arrested.

On the evening of September 4, 2005, Ms. Yu Shuqing from Wukeshu Town was arrested by officers from the Wukeshu Town Police Station in Yushu City, Jilin Province.

At 3:00 p.m. on September 5, 2005, Mr. Cao Jingdong, from Chengfengzhuang in Daqing City, was arrested.

Ms. Wang Xianhuan, 59, lives near the Huoju Police Station in the Xi'an District of Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province. At around 7:00 a.m. on September 6, 2005, officers from the Huoju Police Station broke into Ms. Wang's home for an illegal search. They took Ms. Wang to the police station and confiscated a personal computer, a copier and other items.

On the evening of August 29, 2005, Ms. Liu Ping from Dadong District was arrested while placing truth-clarifying materials by a telephone booth. She is being held in the Zaohua Women's Prison in the Yuhong District of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province.

On September 5, 2005, the Xianning 610 Office arrested Mr. Wang Lidi, Mr. Yu Jianguang, Doctor Tao and other practitioners in Xianning, Hubei Province. The officers also searched the practitioners' homes.

Around 4:00 p.m. on July 20, 2005, officers from the Tonghe County Police Department in Heilongjiang Province unlawfully arrested Mr. Fu Hai, Mr. Li Min and Ms. Liu Ying. The officers also confiscated a personal computer. The three practitioners are being held in the Tonghe Detention Center.

Mr. Fu Hai, who is in his forties, works at the Tonghe County Court. He was voted one of the "Best Ten Judges" at the end of 2004. He was viciously beaten while in custody this time. His legs were injured. The officers even wrapped his head with plastic bags, causing him to almost suffocate while they brutally beat him.

Mr. Li Min is a tricycle taxi driver. He was unlawfully taken into custody and sent to the forced labor camp. He lived with his teenage daughter. After his arrest, his daughter was forced to stay with another family, causing great hardship.

On September 1, 2005, officers broke into Ms. Guo Lirong's home in the Qianfeng Residential Complex in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. The officers confiscated Falun Gong books and a notebook computer. Ms. Guo was arrested again.

Ms. Guo Lirong, 39, was formerly an employee of the Qianfeng Factory. In November 2001, she was taken into custody in Urumqi City in Xinjiang by the Urumqi City 610 Office. On December 12, 2002, officers from the Xindu Police Department and those from the Chengdu Police Department again placed her under arrest.

On August 15, 2005, six Falun Gong practitioners from Xiayu Village in Gaoling Town, Mouping District, Shandong Province, were arrested. On September 1, 2005, Mr. Qiu Renzi from Shaxiangzi Village in Gaoling Town was arrested at his home by officers from the Gaoling Town Police Station. That same day, Ms. Hao Lingdi from the Mouping District and another practitioner with the last name of Wang were secretly arrested. The whereabouts of the three practitioners are unknown.

28. [Laixi City, Shandong Province] Police Arrest Mr. Sun Zhongbao

Mr. Sun Zhongbao is a postman in Laixi City, Shandong Province. On the evening of August 25, 2005, police arrested him while he was spraying truth clarifying signs. Mr. Sun is being held in Laixi City Detention Center Detention Center.

At noon on September 6, 2005, Ms. Guo Shuyun, who lives in the Chengdu Blades Plant dormitory, was brutally beaten by a group unidentified people in front of the dormitory building. She was then taken to an unknown location.

On September 2, 2005, Mr. Tang Bingjie from Masong Town in Weifang City, Changle County was arrested at his work unit by officials from the 610 Office. He is being held in the Changle Detention Center.

Rescue Effort on Behalf of Falun Gong Practitioner Luo Jiabin, His Wife Jiang Yulian and Their Daughter

Practitioner Luo Jiabin and his wife Jiang Yulian from Shaodong, Hunan Province, were again illegally detained. Mrs. Jiang Yulian was held at the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Hunan Province, and their two-year-old daughter was left uncared for. The couple was illegally detained and sent to a forced labor camp once before. They felt compelled to take their daughter and leave home to avoid further persecution.

Officials from the Guangzhou City 610 Office and police department broke into many practitioners' homes without warrants and illegally arrested practitioners in Guangzhou City on September 12 and 13. On the evening of September 12, Xiao Zhennan, an officer from the Nanshitou Police Department in the Haizhu District, along with Wen, from the Haizhu District 610 Office, led a group of people to ransack practitioners' homes.
