The Facts of the Persecution of Falun Gong -- September 30, 2005

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mrs. He Guizhi was 82 years old and lived in Hua'nan County, Heilongjiang Province. Her grandson and granddaughter-in-law were both tortured to death due to practicing Falun Gong. She had nowhere to go for justice. She lost her eyesight and died brokenhearted on December 3, 2003. She was survived by her 82 year old husband and their great granddaughter, Sun Yubo, who live a hard life.

Mrs. He Guizhi (and her husband) lived with their grandson Sun Jihong. After practicing Falun Gong since 1996, many of her ailments such as asthma, pulmonary emphysema, and bronchitis were all cured. She was so happy about her life. Starting on July 20, 1999 when the persecution of Falun Gong began, the police constantly harassed them in their home, and caused Mrs. He Guizhi's health to deteriorate. Her grandson Sun Jihong used to be the Hua'nan Forestry Police Station Director, but he was arrested and detained many times due to firmly believing in Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance. On September 25, 2002, Mr. Sun Jihong was arrested and detained again in the Fengtai District Police Station, Beijing. Four days later, on September 29, 2003, he was tortured to death by police. His body looked very badly beaten, with a hole between his eyebrows, and two more holes on his chin. There wasn't any healthy skin on his body due to the brutal beatings (see /emh/articles/2005/9/19/65087.html).

Mr. Sun Jihing's wife used to work for the Hua'nan County Forestry Commercial Bank as a manager. She was arrested and detained in May 2002 in Beijing. She was brutally beaten, handcuffed, and force-fed in the detention center. That damaged her health severely, and caused her to die in July 2003.

Mrs. He Guizhi's family of five has had three members killed by the CCP's evil persecution, and now only 82 year old Mr. Sun Xueren and his great granddaughter Sun Yubo are left. After Mr. Sun Jihong was murdered, officials from Beijing gave them only twenty thousand yuan in compensation. Mr. Sun Xueren wants to sue those responsible for such a brutal killing to the Higher Court in Beijing. He tried to find a lawyer to help, but failed due to interference from the CCP. Mr. Sun wants to expose his family tragedy internationally.

Ms. Ji Fengqin was a Falun Gong practitioner from Mulan County, Heilongjiang Province. After suffering prolonged, cruel torture in the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp, Ms. Ji passed away on August 30, 2005, three days after she returned home.

Ms. Ji Fengqin lived on Shengchan Street in Mulan County. She was unlawfully arrested in February 2004. On March 18, 2004, she was sent to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. She was 58 years old at the time. All practitioners sent to Wanjia were first locked up in an intensive training class to undergo forced "reformation." During her week-long intensive training, Ms. Ji suffered tremendously harsh torture. I was an eyewitness.

The day she arrived in the intensive training class, the criminal inmates in the labor camp searched her and found some truth clarifying materials. After they informed the police, the police came and verbally abused her. Because Ms. Ji refused to write the three statements, the police attempted to force her to squat on one square brick. When she refused to cooperate, policeman Zhao Yuqing, the training class head, in his 40s, handcuffed her arms to a bed rail.

In the following days, the police continuously abused Ms. Ji with verbal insults and electrically shocked her chin and neck. She was forced to stand 24 hours a day and not allowed to close her eyes. Whenever she was too sleepy and closed her eyes for a second, the inmates watching her would wake her up. She was allowed only three bathroom breaks a day. Brainwashing class head Zhang Guiyun would bring her three meals a day. She was allowed to sit down to eat. Because she had been handcuffed for a long time, she lost the normal function in her hands, which always trembled. She even needed assistance to use the toilet. In this extreme agony, she was still forced to watch videotapes slandering Falun Gong every day. After three days of continuous torture she could not stand still any more. She always fell backwards. Her wrists were badly injured and had big purplish blisters. Her legs were swollen. Even in these painful circumstances, Ms. Ji did not stop her truth clarification to the police. She told them how she became totally healthy after practicing Falun Gong. But the police always got mad and yelled at her to stop her.

By March 24, 2005, Ms. Ji was completely exhausted. Her mind wasn't very clear, and she could hardly keep her eyes open or maintain the standing posture. But the police still attempted to force her to write the three statements. They knew that her hand injuries prevented her from writing, so they told her to just sign her name or put her fingerprints on prepared statements. But Ji Fengqin refused. Policeman Zhao Yuqing moved her to a small room next door and started to shock her and otherwise torture her. Eventually, when Ms. Ji was unconscious, Zhao had someone hold her hand and put her fingerprints on the three statements. They declared to others that Ji Fengqin had written the three statements. Ms. Ji was allowed to return to her room to sleep. A nurse from the labor camp also called in to give her intravenous injections.

After one week of torture, Ji Fengqin had changed into a quiet person. She hardly spoke unless someone talked to her first. After six months in the intensive training class she was transferred to Team Twelve. Every practitioner in Team Twelve went through a weeklong intensive training. Every day they were told to sit on plastic stools with their knees touching and their hands on their knees. They had to watch video programs slandering Falun Gong. A few days later they were told to write a personal understanding report. If the police liked a report they would ask the author to read the report out loud in front of all the team members. After that, the person could return to regular forced labor activities; otherwise, they would force you to continue the "training."

After one week in this intensive training, Ms. Ji was forced to work more than ten hours a day at hard labor. Ms. Ji had suffered injuries to her hands and feet, so she was slow at her job and when walking. She could not complete her assignment on time. Due to her feeble condition, her voice was very low when she was told to shout slogans during the army-type training and this did not satisfy the police. She also refused to comply with the police on some demands, such as bad-mouthing Falun Gong. The police sent her back to the intensive training class several times for repeated brainwashing. In Team Twelve, Ms. Ji 's physical condition and mental health were not good. Her family members did not visit her. Fellow practitioners supported her with basic everyday items. She was deeply depressed and suffered from physical pain as a result of the tortures. But she did not want to tell the police about her physical discomfort. Sometimes she told fellow practitioners that her hands and feet felt numb and did not function normally. She also felt pains inside her body as well.

In August 2005, Ms. Ji was skin and bones and looked terrible. Some criminal inmates said sarcastically, "Your husband dumped you, and your son won't even visit you. You look terrible. Even if you go back home, you could no longer do any work. How could you survive on your own?" These words hurt Ms. Ji badly. From then on, her condition deteriorated rapidly, but she was still forced to work.

By mid-August, Ms. Ji could no longer walk. Two people had to assist her to the toilet. She was losing her mental clarity. The labor camp hospital could not figure out what was wrong. Doctors said she was not ill. Policeman Sha Yujin of Team Twelve said that she was "pretending." Even the criminal inmates assigned to care for her scolded her and said that she was faking her condition.

Around August 20, 2005, Ms. Ji was bedridden. She went into a coma, and her condition was very serious. After she was sent to a hospital she never returned to the forced labor camp. Her scheduled labor camp term was up on September 3, but the labor camp officials feared that she might die in custody, so they processed an early discharge to avoid any liability. On August 27 or 28 Ms. Ji Fengqin was released and returned home. Several days later she died.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yu Renmei from the Laoshan District, Qingdao City was sent to a mental hospital by the local police for the fourth time for practicing Falun Gong. The hospital staff gave her numerous injections of nerve-damaging drugs, which rendered her incontinent and delirious. She was on the brink of a mental breakdown. She overcame the tribulation, however, with unwavering faith in Falun Gong.

Yu Renmei was born in 1957 and lived at No. 454 in Damaidao Village. She was weak as a child. The birth of her first child sent her into hemorrhagic fever. She ran a high fever for a long time and nearly died. She was discharged after a fifteen-day stay in intensive care. She often had a low-grade fever from then on and she was very weak.

Before she obtained Falun Gong, Yu Renmei often had fights with her husband because he had an extramarital affair. Once, Yu Renmei jumped off a building in desperation and broke her legs. She stayed in the hospital for 20 days and lost the ability to take care of herself.

In June 1997, while recuperating at home, Yu Renmei's sister gave her a copy of the book Zhuan Falun. Yu started to practice Falun Gong and all of her illnesses disappeared within three months.

On July 20, 1999, the persecution of Falun Gong began. In October 1999, Yu Renmei and some other practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. The police illegally arrested her and sent her to the Chaoyang Police Department in Beijing where she witnessed atrocities against Falun Gong practitioners. When the practitioners refused to give their names, the police stabbed the practitioners' sensitive body parts with long needles, pinched and hit them, and burned the practitioners with cigarette lighters. They hit the practitioners with mops and pulled the practitioners' arms and legs in different directions. They also hit the practitioners with beer bottles, didn't allow them to drink water or sleep, and locked them in small dark rooms. One police officer screamed, "We'll beat you to death if you don't give us your name." The practitioner answered, "I am a Falun Gong practitioner. I won't give you my name, even if you kill me." Yu Renmei was later transferred to the Qingdao City Liaison Office in Beijing.

Around 5:00 p.m. on October 25, Yu Renmei was taken to the Laoshan Hotel from Laoshan Police Department. A group of officers interrogated her. The group consisted of Wan Guozhong, the head of the police department, political head Zhang, police officer Li, Wang Honglin from the Damaidao Police Department, and Wang Hongda, deputy head of Laoshan Police Department and deputy head of the Damaidao Police Department. Wang Hongda was most vicious. When the police asked Yu Renmei for her name and the name of the organizers of the appeal, Yu Renmei said, "Falun Gong practice is voluntary, and my trip to Beijing is also voluntary. No one organized us." Wang Hongda said, "We'll beat you to death if you don't tell us the truth. We'll send you to prison if you don't give up Falun Gong." Yu Renmei solemnly warned Wang Hongda, "What you say does not count. When I get out, I'll sue you for persecuting innocent people and violating the law." The police then resorted to "soft" methods by lying to her that they would release her if she gave up Falun Gong practice and they also read some Falun Gong-slandering articles to her.

Because Yu Renmei remained determined, the police conspired with her husband Yu Ruimin, her mother-in-law Xin Xiumei, her sister-in-law Yu Fen, her friend Wu Guizhen, the village Party secretary Dai Zongrui, village head Lan Wenyou, doctor Chen who also worked as the Party secretary at the mental hospital, hospital accountant Gao, hospital worker Xiao and several nurses. Together they sent her to Maidao Mental Hospital for a total of four times, claiming she was mentally unstable because she had jumped off a building before she started to practice Falun Gong.

The first time, Yu Renmei left the hospital right after the perpetrators from Laoshan District 610 Office who had escorted her departed. The hospital staff knew that she was a healthy person, so they didn't stop her from leaving.

In November 1999, a dozen people including the police, perpetrators from the 610 Office, and village officials, put Yu Renmei in a police car and sent her to a mental hospital for the second time. Deputy police head Wang Hongda and other officers carried her into the ward. Wang Hongda smirked and said, "Wait and see how I fix you." He said to the doctor, "Load her with all of your best drugs and injections, and I'll take responsibility for anything that happens to her." Yu Renmei said in a loud voice, "You are persecuting Falun Gong practitioners and disrupting Falun Gong. Goodness is rewarded and evildoing is punished. You'll suffer karmic retribution for this. I'm not sick, let me go." Wang Hongda became flustered and said, "Hurry up! Give her some drugs."

The nurse dragged Yu Renmei to another room and prepared to give her an IV infusion. Yu Renmei refused to cooperate with her and the nurse threatened, "You have to get it, whether you want to or not." Yu Renmei said, "I'm not sick! They brought me here because I refused to give up Falun Gong practice." The nurse said, "I don't want to inject you either, but if I don't do this I'll be fired." Several nurses and psychiatric patients held down Yu Renmei's hand and forcibly gave her the IV infusion. They also gave her an unknown injection. She quickly lost consciousness.

After she came to, she felt very weak and extremely dizzy. She could not get out of bed. She pulled out the needle whenever she came to, but the perpetrators would put the needle back in when they saw her take it out. She was unconscious for most of the day and her vision became blurry. She moved slowly and had difficulty comprehending things going on around her. She often broke into a cold sweat, was incontinent and extremely irritable. She was on the brink of a nervous breakdown.

During this period, the Laoshan Police Department dispatched a special team to monitor her and to instruct the hospital in the use of drugs and injections. They took turns in groups of two and stayed in her ward 24 hours a day. They reported her condition to the police department every two hours.

Yu Renmei's family took her home after enduring 17 days of abuse. She was extremely weak when she went home, was incontinent and could not take care of herself. She gradually recovered through studying the Fa and doing the Falun Gong exercises. She often told people about the perpetrators' villainous methods in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

During the Beer Festival in 2001 (Qingdao is a famous beer producing city), officers from the Laoshan Police Department arrested her when she was producing truth clarification materials in the Beer Village. Perpetrators from the Laoshan District 610 Office sent her to Dashan to be illegally held for one month. The police interrogated her twice and threatened her with psychiatric abuse if she didn't give up the practice. About 15 days after she was sent to Dashan, the 610 Office dispatched two so-called mental illness experts to diagnose her. One month later, perpetrators from the Laoshan Police Department 610 Office, from the Damaidao Police Department, the village Party Committee and her deceived husband Yu Ruimin sent Yu Renmei directly to the Maidao Mental Hospital for the third time.

Yu Renmei kept clarifying the truth to the doctors and nurses and told them not to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. She said, "I'm not sick! All of this is happening to me only because I don't want to give up my belief in Falun Gong." The doctor and nurses said, "We don't want to do this to you, but they ordered us to. If we don't do it, we'll lose our jobs. We don't want to inject you with the nerve-damaging drugs, but we have to eat and our children have to go to school." The hospital staff ordered several patients to pin her down and they force-fed her with drugs. They gave her injections of powerful and expensive imported medications. After being given the injection she soon felt weak and lost consciousness.

She left the hospital in late October. She cannot remember the exact date because her mind was not clear due to the excessive drug injections. She slowly recovered through doing the exercises, and she again started to clarify the truth and expose the persecution.

On December 31, 2001, Yu Renmei went to the local army's General Staff Headquarters to hand out truth clarification materials and was reported. Yu, the head of Maidao Police Department, Li Cong and other perpetrators from the Laoshan 610 Office abducted her and detained her at Dashan for 45 days. They told Yu Renmei, "We'll take you to the Maidao Mental Hospital and do a test on you, and then we'll let you go home." Yu Renmei said, "I'm not sick! I won't go there! I distribute truth clarification flyers to expose the persecution and offer people salvation." They asked, "So, why did you jump off a building before?" Yu Renmei said, "That was my personal problem. I didn't practice Falun Gong at that time and I couldn't take it anymore. You have no right to use that as an excuse to persecute me." The perpetrators conspired and made up false witness accounts. They sent Yu Renmei to the mental hospital for another two months.

At first, the doctors were very sympathetic and they didn't giver her any medication. She didn't cooperate with the medical exams or treatments and only told people about the greatness of Falun Gong and the truth about the persecution. Perpetrators from the 610 Office went to the hospital and ordered the doctor to inject her with the most potent nerve-damaging drugs. Seven or eight doctors held her head, arms and legs and gave her an injection.

This time, Yu Renmei had powerful righteous thoughts. She was unaffected and said to the doctors, "Don't waste the medication; it won't work on me. Don't help the perpetrators to persecute good people." This time, the drug was completely ineffective, even after it was injected for 15 days. The doctors and nurses witnessed the supernormal power of Falun Gong. They gradually awakened after Yu Renmei persistently clarified the truth to them for 15 days. They resented Jiang's group for wasting the taxpayers' money to persecute good people who follow the principles of Truth, Compassion and Forbearance. They sympathized with and protected her and suggested, "When you get out, don't give any materials to non-practitioners. Just verbally tell them the truth so the perpetrators can't get any excuse to arrest you. We really don't want to see you sent here anymore. You don't have any mental disorder! You are a good person and completely healthy."

When perpetrators from the Laoshan Police Department's 610 Office went to the hospital, the Party secretary, the doctors and nurses at the hospital all testified that Yu Renmei is a good and healthy person, and that she didn't have any illness or mental condition. They said to the perpetrators, "Don't you ever bring her in here again! We won't accept her, even if you kowtow to us or pay us a million yuan. Don't send her to our hospital." Perpetrators from the 610 Office obtained consent from Yu Renmei's husband and decided to have the village government pay 5,000 yuan to send Yu Renmei and her sister-in-law Yu Fen (to assist in persecuting Yu Renmei) to Wangcun Brainwashing Center in Jinan City.

On her way to the brainwashing center, Yu Renmei continuously sent forth righteous thoughts. Suddenly the car broke down, and the perpetrators took it to a repair shop. While they were waiting for the car to be fixed, Yu Renmei, a woman about 5 feet tall climbed over a 13-foot tall wall and escaped. Yu Renmei negated the evil persecution and ended her forced exile. With help from kind-hearted people she returned to her hometown and clarified the truth to save people.

Jiang's group rewarded the Laoshan 610 Office with a car for persecuting Yu Renmei. The Damaidao Village Party Committee was awarded the title "Advanced Village Committee," and given 230,000 yuan for reporting to its superior that, "Only one person [whom they claimed was a mental patient] was practicing Falun Gong in the village." The Damaidao Police Department, Laoshan Police Department and Laoshan 610 Office all received monetary rewards for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

These people reported Yu Renmei when she clarified the truth: Zou Dezhi, Ma Li, Yu Chunyun, Yu Chunxi, Liu Zengqin, Dai Chenye, and Dai Shoucheng (the son of Dai Chenye; he was misled by his father and beat Yu Renmei's son at school)

Falun Gong practitioner Hu Qingjun is being severely persecuted at the Jixi Labor Camp in Heilongjiang Province. Recently, after Hu Qingjun's situation was made public, Falun Gong practitioners worldwide have been making phone calls to the following individuals in efforts to persuade them further wrongdoing: Qi Min, the commander of the team persecuting Falun Gong, Feng Chenglin, the chief officer of Dahengshan Police Station of Hengshan District, and various persons responsible for persecuting Falun Gong in the Hengshan District Public Department. The staff in the Jixi Labor Camp hypocritically told Hu's family that they would tend to his health, yet Hu Qingjun has been repeatedly tortured, even though he is extremely weak.

The labor camp had been unsuccessful in its efforts to extort money from Hu's family. Thus, they tried various ways to get him into custody, traumatizing Hu's wife, Wang Jinxia, Hu Licheng, his son, and Hu Min, his daughter. His son's behavior and academic record at school are both exceptional, yet the constant pressure from society and the school authorities made him refrain from attending school twice in one month. At the moment, he has gone back to school again. Hu's daughter, normally an outgoing person, is currently in a state of depression. These mental wounds to the family are all being caused by the Hengshan District Public Security Department in Jixi City illegally carrying out orders from above.

Here, we urge all the Falun Gong practitioners to join in sending their righteous thoughts to strengthen Hu Qingjun to help him leave the evil's den as early as possible. We appeal to the kind-hearted people and people of conscience to lend a hand in stopping the persecution of Hu Qingjun. Ask for his unconditional release and an immediate reunion with his family.

Ms. Dong Xiuqin taught at the Chaoyang Street Elementary School in Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province. She was subjected to inhuman torture at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp and has suffered a mental breakdown. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and all those who have persecuted her should be held fully responsible for their actions that resulted in her mental collapse.

Ms. Dong Xiuqin started practicing Falun Gong in the spring of 1998 and benefited greatly both physically and mentally. Many of her diseases disappeared in less than a year after she started practicing Falun Gong, and she became generous and happy. She took the initiative to make up with her colleague with whom she had not been on good terms for many years. Everyone realized that she would not have been able to do this if she were not practicing Falun Gong. She worked hard, took on work with no complaints, and got along very well with everyone. Both her mental and physical changes were tremendous, and many people saw the beauty and goodness of Falun Gong through her.

Even the persecution of Falun Gong that began July 20, 1999, did not shake Dong Xiuqin's determination to practice. In October 2000 she went to Beijing to appeal and was arrested by officers from the Lingyuan City Police Station. She was illegally sentenced to three years of forced labor and inhumanly tortured in the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. After less than a year of torture she became skin and bones, although she had weighed 165 pounds before she was sent to the camp. Her mind became confused, and she finally suffered a mental breakdown. Since no one at home could take care of her, she had to stay with her sister who could watch over her. During that time, her family took her to many doctors. She improved after half a year of treatment.

Gradually Ms. Dong returned to normal. She returned to the practice again and her health recovered rapidly. She resumed her duties at school.

At the end of 2002, the Public Security Office and local police officers went to her house to harass her. They threatened to arrest her and extorted money from her family. At that time she was not totally free, and she thought that she would be sent back to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp if she were arrested again. She really could not tolerate the torture at Masanjia. Under such extreme stress, she had a relapse and suffered another mental breakdown. She thought that the police were everywhere and that everyone was watching her. She was convinced she was going to be arrested, and she even thought that her family was not trustworthy and was very dangerous. She always wanted to escape from home. In the end she could not go to work anymore. Under such extreme pressure, Ms. Dong lost a lot of weight in just in a few days. Her family said that her problem was much more serious this time. After medical treatment during the winter vacation, she basically recovered.

In October 2004 when Lai Caijun, another Chaoyang Street Elementary School teacher, was arrested, the Public Security Bureau claimed that Ms. Dong Xiuqin was also reported. Under pressure, the school terminated Ms. Dong Xiuqin's job although they continued to pay her salary. At the same time, the director of the Public Security Bureau summoned Ms. Dong's husband. The director told him that someone had reported Ms. Dong and that, if she did not "transform," they would arrest her.

When Ms. Dong heard the news, she remembered how horribly she had suffered at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp and once again she broke down. She stopped drinking and eating, did not feel hot and cold, sometimes ran about naked and spoke incoherently, and screamed and yelled uncontrollably. Her condition was much more serious than the previous two times. After medical treatment, she improved somewhat. Although she gradually calmed down, her consciousness was still not clear and she still said things incoherently. Because of her poor mental state, she did not act like a Falun Gong practitioner anymore.

Ms. Dong Xiuqin was persecuted until she suffered a mental collapse. Because of persecution by the Chinese Communist Party, Ms. Dong has become a mental patient. Those who have persecuted her should be held fully responsible for her condition.

If practitioners who were in prison didn't want to "transform", they would not be allowed to go to sleep. Practitioner Ms. Dong Yanhong from Qinghua University wasn't allowed to close her eyes for 8 days and 8 nights consecutively. Inmate Liu Aihua who was helping the prison authorities to brainwash practitioners said, "With such a long period of time of not allowing her to sleep, she will die." "Collaborator" Li Xiaobing replied, "She will not die. For people like her a nap already equals our whole night's sleep." Practitioner Ms. Zhang Guolan from Huairou County in Beijing wasn't allowed to go to sleep for over 40 days until she fell and hurt her forehead on the stool that she was sitting on. Only then was she allowed to sleep from 12 p.m. to 5 a.m. A foreign language teacher, Ms. Zhou Zi, approximately 20-years-old, wasn't allowed to go to sleep for two months. However, the collaborators helping the prison to brainwash practitioners had three shifts to continously brainwash them.

If the practitioners didn't "transform" or if they renounced their "Repentance Statements", the guards would strictly control the inmates and do such things as changing the daily schedules, forbidding them entertainment and so on, so the inmates would vent their anger on those practitioners who didn't "transform." Moreover the inmates who wanted their sentences reduced had to make their "scores." The inmates helping the prison brainwash practitioners could all make perfect scores and not have to work at all. The other inmates, however, found it very difficult to make any score, so they resented the practitioners who didn't "transform" too. They shouted loudly and even brutally beat the practitioners. The guard took practitioner Ms. Shi Guiqin from Chaoyang District in Beijing to each ward to listen to the inmates' "help" (to "transform" her). The inmates worked hard to show off in front of the guards. They shouted at Ms. Shi very loudly and swore at her very badly. Convicted murderer Tang Handong even slapped Ms. Shi's face in front of people.

Outstanding teacher Ms. Gong Ruiping, from Pinggu County in Beijing, held firmly to her belief in Falun Gong. As a result collaborators Li Xiaobing, Yu Jia and others slapped her face and stabbed her hands with pens. Tian Fengqing, the guard's leader, incited guards Xi Xuehui (who was the on-duty guard on the day when practitioner Ms. Dong Cui was beaten to death) and Chen Jing to take Ms. Gong to the one-story house behind the building where no one could hear the screams when they tortured practitioners. They held Ms. Gong on the ground, separated her legs in opposite directions and then pulled very hard. After this torture, Ms. Gong couldn't walk normally for nearly a year. Collaborator Wu Dan beat Practitioner Ms. Zhao Zhisheng very hard, which caused Ms. Zhao's nose and mouth to bleed. The guards also forced practitioner Ms. Zhao Xiuhuan to bend her body at 90 degrees with two people riding on her. When almost 70-year-old practitioner Ms. Yue Changzhi first came to the jail, her back was very straight. A few days later after she was "transformed," her back bent forward at 90 degrees. Ms. Yuan Lin from Beijing University was lame after being "transformed." Being firm in her belief in Falun Gong, practitioner Ms. Li Li from Shijingshan District in Beijing was made to stand for long periods of time and her legs became very swollen. For two months, she still couldn't sleep well due to the pain in her legs.

4. Tying Practitioners in the Double-crossed Legs Position

In 2002, three collaborators working for the 610 Office came to the jail. Xu was collaborator Li Xiaobing's husband. One of the women was named Zang (last name). They had an idea that if any practitioner didn't "transform," they would tie the practitioner into the double-crossed legs position (also called a full lotus) and make her sit in that position until she "transformed." Practitioner Ms. Xu Na was tied in this position for over ten hours. Ms. Liu Xiuqin and Ms. Wu Lanlan repeatedly were tied in this position for six or seven hours. Ms. Zhao Yumin only could single-cross her legs, yet they also tied her in the double-crossed legs position. She was in so much pain that her clothes were all covered in sweat. Ms. Yue Changzhi wasn't in pain from sitting with double crossed-legs, so they punished her with standing.

Some Falun Gong practitioners reported the guards to the prison bureau for committing human rights violations. The head of No. 10 division, Zheng Yumei, shouted at a meeting, "Some Falun Gong practitioners said that we had encroached on their human rights. You are cultivating Buddhahood, which means you are not human. If you aren't human, why do you ask for human rights?"

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Xiumin, who is illegally detained at the first squadron of the fifth group in Shijiazhuang City Forced Labor Camp, has been persecuted for a long time. Currently, she appears to have symptoms of low blood pressure, and her life is in great danger. She needs emergency treatment.

Ms. Li Xiumin, 44, was employed in the Continuing Education Department in Hebei University of Science and Technology. At the end of October 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. Police officers from the Shijiazhuang City Youyi Street Police Station and personnel from the Youyi Street Community Committee illegally arrested Ms. Li. They detained her in a small and dirty cell at the police station. She was handcuffed to a chair for seven days, and both of her feet were injured from frostbite. Fifteen days later, Ms. Li was illegally put into criminal detention. Two weeks later, she was placed under house arrest and monitored by her work unit. In November 1999, her pay was suspended.

On the evening of February 4, 2000, when Li participated in a group exercises in public, she was taken to the Youyi Street Police Station. Her home was then ransacked. A young policeman from Shijiazhuang City's Qiaoxi Police Department pulled her hands above her head and handcuffed them to an iron case. Both of her hands became swollen, as the handcuffs cut deeply into her flesh. As a result, she had circulation problems in her arms for a long time, and her right thumb was numb for six months. She was also deprived of sleep for seven days.

On March 13, 2000, after an eight-day hunger strike, Ms. Li was sent for three years of forced labor by the Qiaoxi Police Department. On March 15, her work unit dismissed her. During her detention in the Shijiazhuang City Forced Labor Camp, she was brutally abused both mentally and physically (please refer to the Minghui website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net) article of May 25, 2003, entitled "The Bloody Violence I Have Suffered and Witnessed in Shijiazhuang City Forced Labor Camp in the Past Three Years"). Under pressure from the authorities, her husband divorced her and took custody of her son. On April 5, 2003, when Ms. Li was released, she had wounds all over her body. She was left with nothing at home, so she could only survive with support from her parents.

On November 14, 2003, six months after Ms. Li came home, a dozen police officers from Shijiazhuang Yuhualu Police Station (a division of Shijiazhuang Changan Police Department) broke into her parent's home, ransacked their home and took Ms. Li away. Fortunately, she managed to escape from the police station, but she had to leave home and live somewhere else to avoid arrest.

In July 2004, Ms. Li tried to see her son, and the police from Heidi Police Station and Shijiazhuang City Yuhua Police Station tracked her down and arrested her. She was put into solitary confinement in the Shijiazhuang City No.2 Detention Center. On October 11, 2004, Ms. Li was again sentenced to forced labor and is currently serving a two-year term at the Shijiazhuang City Forced Labor Camp.

Ms. Li's parents, nearly 70, and her teenage son have been appealing to the government on her behalf. It was said that the main culprits for persecuting Li are the members of the 610 Office from Hebei Province.

Ms. Wan Guifang, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jianli County, Hubei Province is nearly 40 years old. She went to Beijing to appeal in 2000, and in 2001, she was sentenced to 18 months of forced labor by the Jianli County 610 Office and the legal section of the Public Security Bureau. She was sent to Group 9 of the Shayang Forced Labor Camp in Hubei and suffered torture.

Upon arrival at the labor camp, Ms. Wan Guifang was strip-searched. She was persecuted for more than two hours as police punched and kicked her, and shocked her with electric batons. The police inserted the electric baton into her mouth, causing her lips to crack and bleed and her teeth to loosen. At the same time, the police also tortured her with electric batons on sensitive parts of her body. Wan Guifang never gave up her beliefs, and suffered more than one month of torture, beating and physical punishment.

Moreover, the police injected unknown drugs into Wan Guifang, causing her great mental distress. The labor camp only notified the Jianli County 610 Office to take Wan Guifang home in order to cover up their crimes. Wan Guifang suffered from mental illness after returning home, and her husband, children and other family members have ostracized her.

On the night of September 14, 2005, a male Falun Gong practitioner from Gongzhuling City rode a motorbike with Ms. Zhang Shuhua (staff member of the Water Conservancy Bureau) and Ms. Liu Yanli (employee of the Yangdachengzi Town Jianguo Reservoir) to Changling County and distributed truth-clarification materials. They were taken away by police from the Qianjin Township Local Police Station. The male practitioner escaped while still handcuffed, while Ms. Zhang Shuhua and Ms. Liu Yanli were sent to the Changling County Detention Center. On the following day, four to five police officers from the State Security Unit of Changling County searched the home of Liu Yanli, and confiscated two copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. Her family members and coworkers went to the Changling County Public Security Bureau to request her release, but were refused by the police.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Songbiao, Mr. Duan Quangui, Ms. Liu Fuxiu, Ms. Ren Xiyun from Qianlianghu Town, Junshan District, Yueyang, Hunan Province were arrested on September 12, 2005. Hu Xinhua, Falun Gong practitioner from Jianli County, Hubei Province and teacher of the senior class in Zhuhe High School, was secretly taken away by the County 610 Office on September 4, 2005. She was sent to Hubei Province Legal System Study Class for forced brainwashing.

On the afternoon of September 5, 2005, Mr. Cao Jingdong, Falun Gong practitioner from Chengfeng Village, Daqing City went to the security section of his workplace, the Installation Company of Daqing Petroleum Administrative Bureau. He attempted to recover his retirement pension that was being illegally withheld by his workplace. The head of the security section, Zhu Zunren, colluded with Zhaoyuan County Public Security Bureau to arrest him. Mr. Cao Jingdong is now being held at the Zhaoyuan County Detention Center and is on a hunger strike to protest against the persecution. As many as ten police force-feed him twice a day.

7. [Jianli County, Hubei Province] Peng Hongdao Sentenced to One Year of Forced Labor

Mr. Peng Hongdao, 40 year old, from Zhoutai Village, Wangshi Town, Jianli County, Hubei Province, went to Beijing to appeal in 2000 and was sentenced to one year of forced labor. On April 6, 2005 his home was searched and he was taken away by Zheng Chuanwen, the manager of Gongchang Local Police Station, instructor Liu and police officers of County 610 Office. Afterwards, he was sentenced to one year of forced labor without any legal procedure, and is currently held at Group 9 of Shayang Forced Labor Camp in Hubei Province.

On September 14, 2005, the Hongjiang District Public Security Bureau used practitioners' relatives and former coworkers in their attempts to deceive practitioners Luo Jiabin and Jiang Yulian. They deceived everyone into believing they would allow them to resume their jobs. The two have been destitute because they had to avoid going home in order to escape persecution. On the September 15, the police arrested them when they returned home.

According to reports, on September 16, Luo Jiabin and her two-year-old child were put into Shaodong Detention Center, and Jiang Yulian is being held at the Baimalong Labor Camp in Zhuzhou.

Ms Wang Liya, a former employee of the Industry and Commerce Bank, Guangxi branch, was arrested at around 8 pm on September 12, 2005. The Nanning 610 Office, National Security Unit, Qingxiu Public Security Sub-bureau, Zhongshan Local Police Station, security section of Industry and Commerce Bank Guangxi branch and other departments colluded with each other in arresting Ms. Wang Liya. Her home was searched, and a computer and a printer were confiscated. Wang Liya is now being held at the Nanning City No. 2 Detention Center.

Wang Liya continued to practice Falun Gong after July 20, 1999, and as a result, she was forced to quit her job. Before she was arrested, she worked for a real estate agent.

On March 4, 2004, Mr. Zhang Jieshan of Lishu County, Jilin Province was taken away by Zhaoyang Local Police Station in Lishu, and sent to Zhaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun, Jilin Province for the second time. On the night of August 4, 2005, two practitioners, Pang and Meng, distributed Falun Gong truth-clarification materials at the seashore of Nandaihe in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. They were arrested by policemen Song Zemin, Song Wenhui and others. The police tied Pang to a metal chair placed in the center of the room. One of the police went behind Pang, grabbing his hair as he punched him and cursed at him. The policeman then came around in front of Pang and while pulling his hair, swung his head from side to side. Large clumps of the practitioner's hair were pulled out in the process. Meng was cuffed to a heater pipe in another room. Police hit Meng in the head with his briefcase. Police also confiscated many Falun Gong books from Meng's home. Later that same night, police of the National Security Unit sent the practitioners to a detention center.

In mid-July 2005, Mr. Yuan Mingyuan, a retired staff member of the Sichuan Province Reproductive Institute, went to a residential area to hand out truth-clarification materials. He was followed to his home on East Fangcao Street, and later arrested by police officers and taken to the Chengdu City Brainwashing Center.

Mr. Hu Junhua, over 30 years old, is from Jianli, Hubei Province. On September 5, 2005, he was once again arrested by the county 610 Office, public security officers and local police while working at Zhuhe High School. Hu Junhua has been arrested and tortured many times. This time, his workplace paid 20,000 yuan to send Hu Junhua to the Hubei Province Brainwashing Center, accompanied by staff member Liu.

Ms. Jiang Yulian and her husband Mr. Luo Jiabin have been destitute a long time to avoid persecution. In order to achieve the aim of sending Jiang Yulian to forced labor, the local authorities ordered the Hongjiang No. 2 People's Hospital to notify her family that she could resume her job. On September 15, Jiang Yulian and her husband Luo Jiabin returned home, but were immediately arrested by police.

On September 16, 2005, Jiang Yulian was sent to Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou, and Luo Jiabin was sent to his hometown of Shaodong for persecution.

Six practitioners from Dongshan District, Guangzhou City, including Mr. Shi Lei, Ms. Fan Haiqin and Mr. Fan Wei were taken to the brainwashing center in Guangzhou City Legal System School for torture between September 12 and 13, 2005. 18. [Hefei City, Anhui Province] Several Falun Gong Practitioners Sent to Brainwashing Center

At around noon on September 11, 2005, practitioners Ms. Shen Lichun, Mr. Xu Youchuan and Ms. Huang Liping were at the home of Shen Lichun, an employee of the Anhui Institute of Agricultural Sciences. They were reported to authorities and arrested by policemen of the Bozhou Road Local Police Station led by Wang Lu, the politics and judiciary committee secretary of Luyang District, Hefei City and Zhang of the brainwashing center. They are now held for torture in Hefei City at Xinhua Hotel, which hosts a brainwashing center.

In July 2005, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Fan Junxia (from Xiantao City) and Ms. Zhan Junmei (from Tianmen City) were arrested by local police and sentenced to 18 months of forced labor without notice to their families. Currently they are both locked up in the notorious Hubei Province Women's Labor Camp. Their families are very much worried about their safety. Ms. Fan Junxia's parents are both farmers and live a very poor life. In order to be able to visit their daughter every month, they are planning to live on selling vegetables near the labor camp.

In February 2000, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Wang Xiao, Ms. Chen Xiuzhen, Mr. Jiang Zhen'guang, Mr. Duan Yuanxiang, Mr. Wang Ming, Mr. Yang Chuangli, and Zhang Rong (gender unknown) were detained for 30 days for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.

During a government rally held in the Huining Third High School along the river in April of 2000, Falun Gong practitioners Zhang Rong, Mr. Jiang Zhen'guang, and Mr. Liu Xingshun (a teacher) were tied up by 610 Office personnel and police and forced to stand in front of the stage as though they were criminals. They also applied the same treatment to Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Chen Xiuzhen and Ms. Wang Qinfang during the Gan'gou Theater meeting of two thousand people. They later held another county-wide employee meeting in the Huining County Movie Theater, tied up practitioners Ms. Wang Qingfang and Mr. Jiang Zhen'guang, and drove them around the town on a truck to humiliate them.

On January 17, 2001, the Huining County police had Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Deng Yuping, Mr. Liu Xingshun, Mr. Guo Junbin, Ms. Zhang Keying, and Mr. Zhang Hengtong detained for 30 days. The Baiyin City Labor Camp Office sentenced Falun Gong practitioners Wang Hao, Zhang Rong (both gender unknown), Ms. Deng Yuping, Mr. Liu Xingshun, Mr. Zhen'guang, Mr. Guo Junbin, Ms. Zhang Keying, and Mr. Zhang Hengtong to one year of forced labor.

On December 29, 2001, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Chen Xiuzhen and Mr. Duan Yuanxiang were each detained 15 days and extorted out of 200 yuan. Both were sentenced to one year of forced labor.

On November 26, 2002, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Xingshun was tortured in the Wuchuan Brainwashing Class and extorted out of a huge sum of money; Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Deng Yuping, Mr. Duan Yuanxiang, Mr. Jinag Zhen'guangun, Ms. Zhang Keying, and Ms. Li Jinping were also tortured.

In 2003, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Chen Xiuzhen, Mr. Duan Yuanxiang, and Ms. Wang Qingfang were sentenced to one year of forced labor. Ms. Chen Shuxian was sentenced to three and a half years of forced labor, and Mr. Yang Lichuang was sentenced to 18 months of forced labor.

In July 2005, Mr. Yang Lichuang was tortured to death.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Luo Jiping is 59 years old and a retired employee of the Huili County People's Hospital in Sichuan Province. She has not taken a single dose of medicine or seen a doctor at all in the past several years since she started to practice, saving lots of money that would have been spent on medical expenses. In September 2000, Ms. Luo Jiping went to the local government to clarify the truth and was fined one thousand yuan by police. Ever since then, police, her employer, and people from the neighborhood administration have kept coming to her home to harass her. From September 2003 to December 2004, her employer withheld her retirement salary. Ms. Luo went to talk with her employer to let them know that such action is illegal. From January 2005, her employer started paying her 300 yuan each month basic living expense, but still would not pay her the full amount of 900 yuan.

The Yiling District 610 Office of Yichang City and the Yidu City Legal Justice System in Hubei Province have been continually harassing the Falun Gong practitioners, closely monitoring them and threatening them. Staff from the 610 Office arrest practitioners at will, and then extort money from their families. Ms. Yang Suqin is an elderly practitioner who was locked up in a brainwashing class. Gong Binghua and Hu Qinghua (both gender unknown) instructed 610 Office staff to beat Ms. Yang with a wooden stick. As a result, she suffered a fractured hip. The Yiling District Education Department brainwashed students so they would hate Falun Gong, harming those innocent children. The Yidu City State Security Division, Lucheng Police Station, Yidu City Police Department, Department of Justice, Procuratorate, the Court House, and 610 Office are acting jointly in this persecution. According to incomplete statistics, in the past six years, there have been more than ten Falun Gong practitioners sent to labor camps and many people unlawfully detained. Ms. Zheng Jumei (in her 60s) was arrested at her relative's house by police from Yaodian Station at the beginning of 2004 and was sentenced to two years in prison without trial. Ms. Zheng is now locked in Fanjiatai Prison located in Shayang City. Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Deng Yong, Mr. Li Zhiqiang, Mr. Qiu Limeng, and Mr. Liu Huadong were arrested and sentenced to 3-4 years in prison by Yidu State Security Division Head Su Xiaoping. Mr. Deng Yong's mother passed out in the courtroom and died three days later. No one knows where Mr. Deng Yong is now, but the three other practitioners are locked up in Fanjiatai Prison located in Shayang City.

1. Practitioner Mr. Fan Dezhen of Huludao City in Liaoning Province Has Been Arrested

Mr. Fan Dezhen, 31 years old, has been detained, brutally beaten, and forced fed many times because he practices Falun Gong. He was only released when his condition became life threatening. On September 17, 2005, when Mr. Fan was working at the Huludao Household Electrics Building, several plainclothes policemen arrested him and sent him to a forced labor camp. The police then ransacked Mr. Fan's home and took his personal computer, printer, and many other precious objects.

In June 2005, the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp again started a new round of persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Because many practitioners stated that they would not give up the practice, the police locked practitioners Qu Baoliang, Qi Guangran, Li Jian, Guo Zhenge, Zhao Chen, Gao Ju, Liu Xiaofeng, Xing Baoqiang in a guardhouse. In the hot summer, the heat caused everyone to be very sweaty. They were only allowed to drink one cup of water each day and were given hardly any food to eat. The Hewan Forced Labor Camp in Wuhan City has always been involved in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. The persons who specialize in persecuting practitioners are Lei Changmin and Ming Jianhua in the second group of the camp. Lei Changmin plots all the persecution schemes but shows a hypocritical appearance on the surface. Ming Jianhua beats and tortures practitioners. Together, they have secretly persecuted many practitioners.
