The Facts of the Persecution of Falun Gong -- November 11, 2005

On New Year's Day 2005, practitioner Ms. Li Yanfang was arrested for posting the message "Falun Dafa is Good" on a wall. After being severely tortured in jail, Ms. Li could only crawl. The prison inmates broke her legs, and she was sent to the hospital. The doctor issued a notification of critical illness to her family members. She was then sentenced to four years in prison. The police carried her into the Shaanxi Province Women's Prison following the sentencing. She is now unable to speak because the police badly damaged her mouth while force-feeding her.

Ms. Li Yanfang came from the countryside of Shanxi Province to Xi'an City to work. In January 2005, she posted the message "Falun Dafa is Good" on a wall and a taxi driver reported her. The National Guard Squadron in the Lianhu District Police Department in Xi'an City arrested her. Ms. Li went on a hunger strike to protest and was severely tortured. As a result, she was sent to the Ankang Hospital in Xi'an City.

In the Ankang Hospital, while she was on a hunger strike, the police tied her to an iron chair and brutally force-fed her. By the 28th day of her hunger strike, her body was swollen and her head had become so large it was frightening. After the torture, the hospital issued a notice of critical illness.

The Lianhu National Guard Squadron and the city's 610 Office notified her parents to have one last meeting with her. They told her family that she could be released if they paid a fine. Her parents were too poor to pay the fine, so the police refused to release her. In the few days that her parents negotiated with the police, the police let them pay for cigarettes, meals, and taxi fares, costing the family over 3,000 yuan. In particular, a policeman with the last name of Fu in the National Guard Squadron in Lianhu District Office kept asking for meals. Li's parents gave him 50 yuan and he still complained.

Ms. Li's parents persuaded her to end her hunger strike. As soon as she was able to take in some food, the police again sent her back to the Lianhu Prison. Ms. Li persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises. The police directed other inmates to berate, humiliate, beat, and abuse her. Ms Li had bruises all over her body, with new injuries added before old ones healed. With encouragement from the police, the inmates broke her legs. After the beating she had to crawl to use the bathroom, wash her face, shampoo, or take a shower. Her whole body smelled and her hair became entangled and matted together. During her menstrual periods she was unable to properly care for herself.

To protest the persecution, Ms. Li once again went on a hunger strike. Afraid that she might die in jail the officials sent her back to the Ankang hospital. The hospital issued a notice of critical illness twice after the court sentenced her to four years in prison. The "610 Office" and Lianhu National Guard police ignored the hospital's notice of critical illness and carried her directly from the hospital to the Shanxi Province Women's Prison.

On August 18, Ms. Li's parents came to the prison from Shanxi Province to visit her. Ms. Li was carried out on a stretcher to meet them. Family members found that she could no longer speak because her mouth was so badly damaged, apparently from the force-feeding.

I hope that practitioners in Shanxi Province will send forth righteous thoughts after reading this article, to help Ms. Li Yanfang escape from the torture as soon as possible.

For almost a year Falun Gong practitioner Pan Gang has been illegally detained at the Weizigou Forced Labor Camp. Up until the middle of September, his family tried to visit him several times, but the head of the labor camp, Wang Yanwei, refused their requests. Later, they had a short meeting with Pan Gang and discovered that he was placed in a solitary confinement "small cell" and hung up with handcuffs for days at a time. He was severely beaten, and he did not receive the items and money sent by his family.

Mr. Gang is forty-eight and was an employee of the Tax Bureau in Nongan County, Jilin Province. Because he practiced Falun Gong, his job and wages were suspended. Police from the Nongan County Police Department repeatedly and illegally arrested and detained Mr. Gang and sentenced him to forced labor camp terms.

At the Yinmahe Labor Camp in Jiutai City and the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City, Jilin Province, Mr. Gang was cruelly tortured. The guards broke his front teeth, kicked and broke his ribs and smashed his toenails. He was also hung up, confined in a "small cell" and force-fed. He was kept in a brainwashing center even after his sentence ended.

On February 02, 2004 Pan Gang went to the Nongan County Tax Bureau to ask that he return to work. Police of the 610 Office and Political Security Division accompanied Tax Bureau Director Zhang Yiwen to once more arrest Mr. Gang. He was given a one-year sentence to a forced labor camp at Weizigou, Changchun City.

Members of Pan Gang's family tried to visit him at the labor camp but were stopped at the door. On September 14, a member of his family came to the labor camp to visit Pan Gang, but labor camp head Wang Yanwei punched him and refused his request to visit Pan Gang.

On September 16, Pan Gang's family members reported this illegal behavior to the Changchun Judicial Bureau, Labor Camp Management Division. After many difficulties, they were allowed to visit Pan Gang, separated by a wall. They were allowed to speak only a few sentences through a window and then forced to leave.

From this short talk with Pan Gang, his family learned that he was placed in a small cell and hung up. He was hung until 10 p.m. before being allowed to sleep. This lasted seven to eight days. He was also beaten up by prisoners. All of these were instigated by the director, and the items and money sent by Pan Gang's family members were not received by Pan Gang.

On August 9, 2005, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Guo Meijie and Mr. Cheng Ming, who worked part-time in the Daqi District of E'erduosi City, Inner Mongolia Province, were illegally arrested by more than 30 policemen from the local police station. Their home was ransacked. Their equipment, which was valued at ten thousand yuan and included a laptop and printer, was confiscated.

While they worked part-time there, Ms. Guo and Mr. Cheng took the initiative to create opportunities for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to the local people. In order to expose the persecution, they delivered "truth-clarifying" materials to thousands of homes and saved the people who were deceived and harmed by the Chinese Communist Party's lies. This activity generated a big impact locally. The 610 Office and the Public Security Bureau assigned a massive police contingent to investigate and follow them day and night. The units participating in this illegal capture included the Patrols Police Group of Daqi District, the Criminal Police Group, and the National Security Group.

Ms. Guo and Mr. Cheng were imprisoned in the Patrols Police Group for four days. Over those four days, the police brutally tortured them. They were seriously beaten, tied to a chair to be shocked with high-voltage electricity, and deprived of sleep for days. The police took turns monitoring them. If their eyes closed even a bit, they were beaten on the head with a post. Many police officers tried to deceive them by saying that they also practiced Falun Gong. The officers not only bombarded them with brainwashing information but also harassed and threatened them. The practitioners were even told that if they would turn over a couple thousand "yuan", they would be released to go home and visit their family. However, they refused to compromise at all.

Therefore, both of them were transferred to and jailed in the Daqi District detention center. At the entrance and in the courtyard of the detention center, they spoke out fearlessly. In the detention center, they refused to cooperate. They refused to sign the detention card or arrest card, to follow any of the regulations that "criminals" should follow, to wear criminal uniforms, to memorize the center's regulations, to respond to roll-calls, to count off, or to sing songs. They insisted on reciting the Falun Gong books and practicing Falun Gong and were never moved by the harassments and threats. When Ms. Guo was on a hunger strike, the guards force-fed her many times, which made her lose consciousness. The fee for an electrocardiogram administered while she was in detention was deducted from the money that her family sent for her living expenses. Her family members traveled from Baotuo City to the Daqi detention center many times to try to visit her. However, they were always rejected with no reason.

Currently both of the practitioners are facing fabricated charges. Their cases have been sent to the prosecutor, and they could be sentenced to prison.

Ms. Zheng Shihui was 68 years old and lived in the First Commune, Dazhuanwan Village, Longping Township, Chuanshan District, Suining City, Sichuan Province. She used to have many ailments, especially a bloated stomach that made it difficult for her to eat or sleep well. Ms. Zheng started cultivating Falun Gong in October 1998. Her stomach problem was gone only several days later and all of her other symptoms disappeared as well. Her celestial eye was opened. Seeing the scenes in other realms helped Zhen Shihui increase her confidence in the practice. After July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started slandering Falun Gong and persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Zheng stepped out to clarify the truth, pass out flyers, and post banners. One evening in May 2002, the CCP Dazhuanwan Village secretary Zhou Guisong (male) and 610 Office director Huang Yong (male), and others, stormed into Ms. Zheng's home, but didn't find any Falun Gong materials. They still took her away and detained her in the Nanqiang Police Station of Suining City overnight. Ever since that night, Ms. Zheng was constantly harassed at home. Ms. Zheng Shihui died on September 9, 2005 as a result of the relentless persecution.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Hongpeng was 27 years old and was an employee of the Feige Bicycle Factory in Tianjin City. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in September 2000, was arrested by the police, and was beaten until she suffered a brain injury. The beating resulted in extravagated fluid inside her skull, a swollen head, her face was deformed, her eyes bruised, and she lost her eyesight. Ms. Li could no longer take care of herself. She died at the end of December 2000.

Mr. He Guanying was a Falun Gong practitioner from Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. He used to have bladder cancer, and the doctors once told him that he had several months to live. Mr. He recovered miraculously after practicing Falun Gong and was a volunteer assistant for a local practice site. However, after the persecution started, between 2000 to 2001, his old sickness recurred, and He Guangying passed away.

Ms. Song Fengying, 61 years old, was a Falun Gong practitioner in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. She started cultivating Falun Gong in 1995. From April to November 1999, she went to Beijing four times to appeal for Falun Gong. In April 2001, Ms. Song became ill with rectal cancer. The cancer spread to her liver and lung. She died in July 2004.

Ms. Yang Xiuqin, 71 years old, was a Falun Gong practitioner living in Hao Village, Fuxing District, Handan City, Hebei Province. Her health became very good after she started practicing Falun Gong. When the persecution began, her daughter's home was ransacked and her daughter was detained and sent to forced labor and brainwashing sessions many times. The trauma of her daughter's persecution severely damaged Ms. Yang's mental and physical health. She died on July 21, 2005.

1. [Shandong Province] Falun Gong Practitioner Zhang Fuxiang Being Held at the Shandong Province No.1 Women's Forced Labor Camp Past Original Term

On October 4, 2002, Laiwu City police authorities sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Fuxiang to three years of forced labor and put her into the Jinan City No.1 Women's Forced Labor Camp. She's suffered all kinds of brutal torture during the past three years.

In August 2004, a new structure went up in the Forced Labor Camp to house and persecute those practitioners who had not been "reformed." Zhang Fuxiang was also transferred there. Policemen shocked her with over twenty electric batons, force-fed her, and tormented her with all kinds of loud noises for over twenty days until she lost consciousness.

On October 4, 2005 Zhang Fuxiang's detention term expired, so her family went to Jinan City to pick her up. Police officer Wang Shuzhen, head of the No.5 Division, said, "Zhang Fuxiang's term is not over because she has not given up the Falun Gong practice. We will extend her term. You have to leave here immediately!" Zhang Fuxiang's younger sister said, "Can I see her since we haven't seen each other for years?" Her request was denied.

3. [Shihezi City, Xinjiang Autonomous Region (Xinjiang AR)] Lian Xiuli Sentenced to Four Years Imprisonment for Clarifying the Truth About Falun Gong

In early 2005, the Shihezi City police arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Lian Xiuli, 53 years old, a retired employee of the Shihezi City No.8 Cotton Textile Factory in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, for practicing Falun Gong and clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to people. The Municipal Intermediate People's Court sentenced her in August 2005 to four years imprisonment. At present she is being held at the Urumqi City Women's Prison.

4. [Baise City, Guangxi Autonomous Region (Guangxi AR)] Arrest of Practitioner Lu Hongwei

Dr. Lu Hongwei is a medical doctor and runs his own clinic. He was put into a forced labor camp a few years ago for practicing Falun Gong. Lu Hongwei was again arrested recently. Personnel from the Baise City Political and Judicial Committee came to Pingguo County on special assignment to arrest him. At present, Lu Hongwei is being held at the Pingguo County Detention Center.

Practitioner Mr. Lu Qiang from Jiaohe City is currently being held at the City Detention Center. He was stripped put in solitary confinement.

During the daytime on October 22, 2005, practitioner Ms. Shi Weiwei and another female practitioner from Fuxin City were arrested for distributing CDs of "The Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party". Afterwards their homes were ransacked. At present they are being held at the Xindi Detention Center.

In June 2005, policemen from the Chongqing 610 Office arrested practitioner Mr. Gong Guojian. Personnel from the Chongqing "610 Office" found him downloading some information from Minghui.org and arrested him. His whereabouts are unknown. His unemployed wife and his daughter, an elementary school student, are left at home without financial support.

After July 20, 1999, he was demoted and had his salary cut for continuing to practice Falun Gong. At first he was demoted to a gardener position and then demoted again to a guard position at the Qinggang Middle School gate. Mr. Gong is no longer permitted to teach.

Practitioner Mr. Xie Deqing, 65 years old and living at No. 188 Qingjiang East Road, Chengdu City, is a retired employee of the Research Institute in the Chengdu City Prospecting Institute.

On September 19, 2005, Yin Yun, "610 Office" head for the Funan Community Office in Chengdu City, called Xie Deqing and told him that they were planning to arrange a job for Xie's son. They told him and his wife to go to the Community Office the next day. When the practitioner and his wife arrived, however, in collusion with the local police station, they had already arranged for a group of policemen and plainclothes agents that were around the office. They arrested Xie Deqing as soon as he arrived and sent him into the Chengdu City Xinjin Brainwashing Center. Xie has not yet been released.

1. Police from Daqing City Heilongjiang Province Used Deception to Arrest Ms. Li Junmi

On September 23, 2005, police officer Xu Hongxiang (female) knocked on the door of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Junmi's house, claiming that she had a stomachache. Li Junmi's father Mr. Li Qingzuo (a doctor) opened the door. Consequently, a group of police from the Daqing City Police Department forced their way in and abducted Li Junmi, her father Li Qingzuo and her sister-in-law Ms. Jia Xianjun. The police also ransacked her house. Over the past days, the police from the Daqing City Police Department again deceived Li Junmi's mother in order to obtain her signature, using the pretext, "to release Ms. Li Junmi." The elderly woman later found out that the signature was used as authorization for her daughter's illegal detention in labor camp for one year.

2. College Student Mr. Xiang Youwei from Chongqing City Abducted by 610 Office

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xiang Youwei from Wanzhou District, Chongqing City is twenty years old and an excellent student at Chongqing City Sanxia College. In 2004, when he was a freshman, he was abducted by the Wanzhou District State Security Agents under suspicion of distributing Falun Gong brochures. The second day after his abduction, Mr. Xiang escaped from the guard and had to leave school and home to avoid being arrested ever since. The police posted a reward of 6,000 yuan for his arrest. On September 28 this year, Mr. Xiang Youwei was illegally arrested on the street in Yubei District, Chongqing City, by the 610 Office. The police interrogated him for seven days and later transferred him to the Yubei District Detention Center.
