During the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong, more and more people who have consciences and have come to know the truth of Falun Gong, have positioned themselves against the persecution. The CCP is terrified by people's involvement in helping to stop the persecution. Thus the CCP has also persecuted those who support Falun Gong, even though they are not practitioners. The families of these people are suffering the same adversity experienced by practitioners.

Towards the end of April this year, Yang Fengwen, from Yangqing Township of Suixi County, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, helped Falun Gong practitioners distribute truth-clarification fliers. Police from the Yangqing Township Police Substation illegally arrested him and took him away. The County Police Station, the County Court, and the County Procuratorate all got involved. Together, they illegally held Yang at the No. 2 County Detention Center for over five months. After that, Yang was transferred to a brainwashing center in the township where they could keep him for as long as they liked.

During this period, they also searched for and interrogated Yang's wife, Pang Juan, who used to suffer from mental illness. She was afraid and ran away from home to avoid further persecution. She didn't dare to come home. Yang and Pang have two sons who are still very young. Now, the boys are uncared for. Pang Juan doesn't know when her husband will be released. Due to anxiety, pressure and depression, Pang Juan's mental illness recurred. Their family was poor before; now, the family's financial situation has worsened because of Pang Juan's illness.

The CCP's persecution of Falun Gong has extended to people who are sympathetic towards practitioners. If everybody kept silent about the evil persecution, China would not have a bright future, but if people can all stand up and join in opposing the persecution, the evil will diminish and finally disappear, and the world will regain peace and justice. We believe more people in China will support Falun Gong and unite to oppose the persecution.

After Jiang's inspection of Hunan Province in August, the authorities in Changde City intensified the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. They have hired some dregs of society to monitor and ambush practitioners, and have generally been interfering with Falun Gong practitioners' normal lives.

On October 19, practitioners Ms. Yang Li and Ms. Xu Heping were illegally arrested and taken to the 413 Geological Survey Team in Changde City. Security staff there first forcibly detained them and soon after notified the 610 Office and police department, who came and took them away.

Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Huang Guihua and Mr. Xu Shanqin had already been arrested in August when the 610 Office intensified their persecution. Huang Guihua is 50 years old. Her husband died long ago, leaving their son and her depending on each other for survival. Her son, Qin Shi, was in Guangzhou doing some odd jobs. After finding out about the illegal arrest of his mother, he came home twice to visit her in detention and shed a lot of tears. Seeing his mother incarcerated made him feel that his future was uncertain. It is said that he is giving up on life. Both mother and son were not at home, but policemen broke in their house without permission. They have broken the door and searched all over the house, especially the cases and chests. Although nothing "illegal" was found, they insisted that there must be a copy of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party hidden in the house. They wanted to use this as a pretext to sentence Ms. Huang to prison for 5 years.

Huang Guihua, Xu Shanqin, Yang Li and Xu Heping are now detained in the 2^nd Detention Center of Changde City.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Yuping was in her 70s, and was a retired employee of the Jiangbin Machinery Factory in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province. She was tortured to death on April 24, 2003.

Ms. Zhao started practicing Falun Gong in1997. After one year, the sicknesses she used to have all over her body had all disappeared. On July 20, 1999, when the persecution began, Ms. Zhao went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained 15 days after being taken back to her home town.

At the end of December 2000, she went to Beijing again to clarify the truth, but was arrested in Yueyang City and detained several days. She went to Beijing after that detention, was arrested by Beijing police, body searched, and her head and lower back were injured from a brutal beating by police. On January 18, 2001, police from the Dahualing Station ransacked her home and took her to a brainwashing center. She was persecuted ever since then, which severely damaged her mind and body. She died on April 24, 2003 after vomiting lots of blood.
