The Facts of the Persecution of Falun Gong -- November 16, 2005

Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province is advertised as a civilized place, but actually, it is an evil den where Falun Gong practitioners are brutally persecuted. The practitioners who newly arrive are forcibly searched. They then face daily brainwashing. If they still do not give up their beliefs, they are tortured. Falun Gong practitioners are being humiliated and persecuted, and denied any freedom.

On October 27, 2004, Falun Gong practitioners Zhang Chunlan, Sun Zhuntao and Jia Fengmei from Guyang County went to Beijing to send forth righteous thoughts. When they were at the Beijing Railway Station, they were required to slander Master and Falun Gong. When they refused, police arrested them and took them to the Guyuang County Detention Center. They held a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Meng Xianguei, head of the Guyuang County 610 Office, directed several people to force-feed them. A tube was forcibly inserted into Zhang Chunlan's stomach five times, and she was force-fed three times. Her nasal cavity was bleeding profusely. Later she was forced to receive injections. On October 29, she was sent to the Hebei Province Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp.

When they arrived at the labor camp, it was found through physical examination that they had heart disease and lung disease, so the labor camp refused to take them. Meng Xianguei bribed the labor camp through Zhao Yanping in order to make the labor camp take the practitioners. Besides brainwashing practitioners, the labor camp also uses them as cheap labor. Practitioners are forced to work every day to make money for the labor camp. In the middle of June 2005, Zhang Chunlan was sent to a carpet factory to work despite feeling ill. She was poisoned by rubber fumes and became very ill. Guard Wei Hongli dragged her downstairs to force her to work. On the second day, she was called to the West Building, where guards Wei Honglin and Zhao Yanping threatened her. She was released only after she fainted and fell to the floor.

Practitioners are often searched at the Hebei Province Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp. Their pillows and comforters are torn open. They are even searched without underwear. The female practitioners cannot avoid this kind of search even during their menstrual periods. On July 20, 2005, Group Leader Li Xuejun promised reduced sentences to coerce the criminal inmates to search practitioners. Master's articles were found and confiscated.

One day in August 2005, a guard punished practitioners Li Runzhi, Yang Xulian, Wang Suorong and Sun Runtao and made them stand from noon until 5:00 p.m. Squadron Leader Shi Jiangxia also shocked Li Yanzhen using an electric baton.

On August 14, 2005, at eight o'clock, bad weather alerted people to danger. First the labor camp lost power and then it rained, accompanied by thunder and lightning. The red flags were struck by the lighting as if cut by a knife, and they all fell down. But the guards at the labor camp did not take this as a warning and continued to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

On August 15, after lunch, Group Leader Li Xuejun went to the small cell where Ding Xiaomei was detained, and he saw practitioner Cheng Aihong sitting there. He punched Cheng Aihong in the face, which triggered Cheng Aihong's heart disease.

When police torture a practitioner, they lock the door and close the curtain, because they are afraid other practitioners will see it.

To protest the persecution, practitioners at the labor camp held a group hunger strike. They refused to wear prison uniforms and refused to recite prison rules. Group Leader Li Xuejun said that Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp was number one in terms of forced feeding. They dragged Cheng Aihong, Zhao Suying and others to the hospital to force-feed them, and also locked Zhao Suying in a small cell.

Falun gong practitioner Liu Yanzhen refused to wear a prison uniform. Squadron Leader Shi Jiangxia and Staff Commissioner Li Yanji tore her clothes off down to her underwear. They then shocked her with electric batons. However, the electric batons ran out of power, so the policemen used them as sticks to strike her bottom. Her bottom was swollen as result of the beating. They also took her clothes and comforter away. Other practitioners gave her some clothes to wear, so the policemen cut the clothes up and threw them away. She had nothing to wear besides underwear for two weeks. They also dragged her downstairs in only underwear to stand and bake in the sun. They also coerced the criminal inmates to kick her and push her head down by her hair. On September 29, Li Xuejun, Li Yanji, Shi Jiangxia and five other labor camp officials and inmates dragged her downstairs. They beat her and shocked her using electric batons. She was badly injured and her eyes were lifeless after the beating. She was carried back to her cell.

During the hunger strike, guards blocked all the doors to prevent practitioners from getting out of the rooms. They took five practitioners to another place, and policeman Zhao Yuanshan beat Li Guizhi in the meantime. He also dragged Li Guizhi, who was very weak, to the West Building to threaten her. She could no longer walk on her own as a result. They also handcuffed practitioner Li Xia at the West Building. Li Xia tried to clarify the truth to them, but they did not listen. One of them kicked Li Xia in the back, and she has suffered back pain ever since. Guards tied Cheng Aihong's thumbs with steel wire, and shocked Cheng Aihong using electric batons and a hand generator. Cheng Aihong's body was black and blue.

On September 29, Group Leader Li Xuejun hired people for over 200 yuan each to beat practitioners who are detained at the Fourth Building. Two practitioners were beaten and then locked in the trunk of a vehicle. No one knows where they were taken. They also locked practitioners at the Fourth Building in small cells. Li Xuejun got Dong Guirong, a 50-year-old practitioner, to go downstairs in order to talk. They tried to use electric batons to torture her, but the electric batons did not have any power. They used them as clubs to beat her. Dong Guirong's could not use her left leg as a result of the beating. When others gave her a stick to help her to walk, guards coerced inmates to take it away and said, "If she cannot walk, she can crawl."

In June 2005, officials from the 610 Office in Guang'an City, Sichuan Province set up another brainwashing center. The illegally arrested Falun Gong practitioners imprisoned there include Ms. Zhang Congyuan, Du Pingsheng, Mr. Li Dayuan, Ms. Wang Yan, Ms. Wang Shiying, Liu Mingqing, Mr. Luo Hongqin, Ms. Zhou Keliang, Zhou Shidi, Mr. Li Zhenghai, Qu Zhenqing, Ms. Ni Yue'e, Duan Hua, Ms. Zheng Lingfeng, Tan Debi, Zhang Lin, and others. All of these practitioners are being subjected to cruel persecution.

Huaying City's old Armed Forces Unit where Falun Gong practitioners are illegally detained

Currently, more than sixty Communist Party officials from various towns including Wusheng, Huaying, Linshui, Yuechi, and Guang'an have been assembled and divided into 20 teams to run the brainwashing center and persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Each team has one leader and two assistants, and each team persecutes a single Falun Gong practitioner. Most of the team leaders are male. The two assistants stay with their assigned practitioner in a small room, approximately 9 feet by 9 feet, at all times. They follow the practitioner everywhere, including to the toilet. Even when it's terribly hot, the practitioner is not allowed out, and is confined day and night inside the locked room. Practitioners going to the toilet at night requires the assistants to unlock the door. The assistants bring in the practitioners' meals, and the amount of the food depends on the mood of the assistants. If the assistants think the practitioner meets their "requirements," they may bring in more food, but they usually bring in only small amounts. The practitioners are responsible for all the cleaning and housekeeping.

On two separate occasions, practitioner Ms. Wang Shiying has been beaten, forced to stand alone in the corner near the door, and punished with food deprivation. In an attempt to force Ms. Wang to abandon Falun Gong, eight men beat her, kicked her in the abdomen and private parts, and viciously whipped her head and back with a leather belt until the belt broke. After they tortured her in this way, they sent Ms. Wang to the Guang'an Mental Hospital for further persecution.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Congyuan was also sent to the same hospital.

Another practitioner, Ms. Wang Yan, has been beaten many times, and she bears scars on her head and back. The perpetrators also injected her with unknown drugs and laced her meals with drugs. From June 16 to July 12, Wang Zhengjun regularly beat Ms. Wang with bamboo sticks and slapped her, causing her to bleed from the ear. As a result, she lost her hearing for more than one month. Zhang Xiaopeng yanked Ms. Wang's hair, throwing her against the walls and onto the floor. On September 21, Zhang got others to help him pry Ms. Wang's mouth open with chopsticks and force-fed her with unknown drugs. They told her that they intended to make her go insane. Her teeth were almost broken and there was blood all over the chopsticks. Because Wang Yan refused to give up Falun Gong, they injected her with drugs and sent her to a mental hospital. After the injection, they forcibly stamped her fingerprints on the hospital form. While Ms. Wang resisted the fingerprinting, assistant Li Shunying kept hitting her with a wooden club, kicking her and slapping her face. Wang Yan ended up with injuries in thirteen places as a result of this round of abuse.

From August 25 to August 27, assistant Wen Zizhen deprived Wang Yan of sleep and forced her to hold her arms up for eight hours. Wen beat her with a wooden stick each time she let her arms down. Wen also pinched the back of Ms. Wang's hand with fingernails. Ms. Wang's tormenters didn't give her any food from September 7 until noon on September 10, and then she only received half a bowl of rice. From September 7 to September 26, Wang Yan was seldom allowed to eat. After her release, Ms. Wang's family members said she was so emaciated that she had become disfigured.

On the morning of September 20, Ms. Wang Yan heard the sounds of a struggle coming from the next room. Later, word circulated that the brainwashing center director, Yu Xiaofu, and the doctor had been overheard talking about Mr. Zeng, a young man whom they'd injected with drugs that caused him to foam at the mouth. It had taken several people to hold him down for the injection. During the struggle, he'd been given an overdose of the drug, and the needle had broken off in his flesh. They were not sure if he would survive, so they sent him to the emergency room.

Practitioner Mr. Luo Hongqin of the Guang'an Weather Bureau was taken by force to the Huaying Brainwashing Center. In addition, over ten thousand yuan was transferred from his salary to the brainwashing unit.

Mr. Chen Tingyao is an older Falun Gong practitioner who was illegally sentenced to forced labor. After having served his sentence, he was sent to the brainwashing unit. Mr. Chen's legs were injured during his stay in the forced labor camp because the police had tortured him for not abandoning the Falun Gong  practice.

Another practitioner detained there was Mr. Li Zhenghai. His face and hands were repeatedly struck with chopsticks by the persecutors.

Some of the younger assistants mentioned that long periods of confinement in isolation would make one's legs tremble while walking. They said that the room is like a cage, and that those who are kept there are put under so much pressure that no amount of money could be worth it. One can only imagine how terrible the situation is for the Falun Gong practitioners persecuted there.

The brainwashing center was sponsored by the Guang'an City Government and run by the local 610 Office. Those responsible for its operation are Su Cuihua, Yu Xiaofu, Xiong Changyong, Lai Yupu, and Wang Xianlai. During the weekdays, Su Cuihua of the city's 610 Office stays at the brainwashing center every week to organize the ongoing, brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

The perpetrators keep Falun Gong practitioners locked up at all time during the brainwashing session. They never mention the names, addresses, or work units of the personnel handling the persecution. The workers at the center get eight days off every month. They take turns going to Huaying City for leisurely lunches and dinners. On top of their regular pay, they get bonuses of 600 yuan a month plus travel expenses, and they are treated to food and drink by visiting officials from each town. The financial support for the brainwashing center comes from all the towns and villages that the detained practitioners are from. Each local government from these towns and villages must pay the 610 Office 8,400 yuan. Additionally, they pay 800 yuan a month for three months for each practitioner, plus 1,200 yuan for the two assistants watching the practitioner.

The 610 Office in Guang'an City, Sichuan Province has been conducting brainwashing sessions since July 2000. In December of 2002, they even established a brainwashing base at the old Armed Forces Unit on Hongxing Third Road in Hualao City. Since then, they have continuously arrested and brought Falun Gong practitioners to the base for further persecution. Particularly in August of 2004, the Guang'an police illegally arrested Falun Gong practitioners and locked up 60 practitioners in the brainwashing center, where they were held for three months.

The current brainwashing session is not yet over, but the perpetrators are already planning for the next session.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xing Guoshu, 66, is from Suizhong County, Liaoning Province. He was brutally beaten by Suizhong County CCP Political and Security Office personnel. The abuse caused a blood shortage to his cardiac muscle, and he suffered from high blood pressure. He is currently detained in the Huludao City Labor Camp.

Mr. Xing Guoshu was born on September 4, 1939. On March 3, 2005, he was arrested by Suizhong County CCP Political and Security Office Head Li Changhua (male) and two other policemen.

Mr. Xing refused to cooperate with the illegal arrest, so they brutally beat him, resulting in one of his teeth falling out and the rest of his teeth coming loose. He passed out and his nose and mouth bled heavily. Li Changhua and others carried him into the police van while continuing to beat his chest, and took him directly to the Huludao City Labor Camp.

Mr. Xing could not eat anything upon arriving at the labor camp, and he quickly became emaciated. After twenty days, he was sent to the Huludao City Chinese Medicine Hospital. The doctor said that he was suffering from a heart attack, high blood pressure, and his gall bladder was infected and swollen. The doctors gave the same diagnosis on three different visits. Mr. Xing Guoshu has still not been released, but is currently being detained in the labor camp.

Suizhong County CCP Political and Security Office Head Li Changhua is very vicious and assists in the persecution of practitioners with cruel means.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Qi Miaozhi from Yanshi City, Henan Province, was locked in Shibalihe Labor Camp in Zhengzhou City simply because she firmly practiced Falun Gong. After being released from the labor camp, she was continually harassed. She passed away around February or March of 2004.

Ms. Qi Miaozhi, 48, lived in Xiguanmao Village, Fudian Town, Yanshi City, Henan Province. Ms. Qi started cultivating Falun Gong in the autumn of 1998. The practice enabled her to become very compassionate. She quit bickering with others, stopped fighting with her husband, and enjoyed peaceful relationships with her neighbors and extended family. Her physical body was free from ailments and she felt very energetic.

Ms. Qi Mioazhi was very firm in her practice. After July 20, 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, but was arrested and taken back by the police. The police tried to force her give up her faith. Guangmao Village Head Shi Baoqing led a group of village heads to take turns beating her. Ms. Qi passed out from the pain, but she did not betray her belief in Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance. She was tied up and displayed on a truck bed, which drove around the village to publicly humiliate her. She was also sentenced to two years of forced labor.

On September 20, 2005, personnel from Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yan Hongwei's work unit sent Yan to the Luotai Resort Brainwashing Center. He has been persecuted there ever since. Mr. Yan once went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

Mr. Yan, 35, is an employee of the Shenyang City Huachen Jinbei Transportation Company. At the end of 2000 he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, but was sentenced to three years of forced labor at the Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City, where he was severely tortured and his detention term was extended.

On September 13, 2005, Ren Sheya, Puer County 610 Office head, led a group of thugs to the home of Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Fengqiong's parents, who are in their 70s. Ren Sheya threatened and compelled the elderly parents to stop Ms. Zhang from clarifying the truth about Falun Gong. This year, Zhang's son took the university entrance examination and enrolled in a military university. The county Political and Judiciary Committee, though, did not permit him to attend the university with the excuse that his mother practices Falun Gong.

In October 2002, during CCP's 16^th Conference, Ms. Kang Shuqin, 59, was arrested at a Falun Gong materials production center and sentenced to eleven years of imprisonment. At present she is being held at the No. 8 Team, Shanxi Province Women's Prison located in Mao'erling, the Yuci District, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province. She is very determined and has endured all kinds of excruciating tortures.

Her son, Hou Lijun, was sentenced to twelve years of imprisonment. After staging a hunger strike for over 100 days he managed to escape from the hospital he was in. At present he is homeless in order to avoid further persecution. Kang Shuqin's husband Hou Haizhu is left alone and leading a very difficult life.

Practitioner Ms. Wang Fang from Hengshui City is around 40 years old, and was a staff member of the Confidential Information Office at the Hengshui City Government. On June 11, 2005 she was arrested and later sentenced to three years of forced labor. It's said that it was Li Junqu, the city Party Secretary, who ordered to arrest and sentence her to forced labor.

Ms. Gu Xiaohua, 57 and a practitioner from Beijing, lived in the Anhuili District. At the beginning of 2005 she was arrested and detained for over two months at the 7th Division of Beijing City Police Department. Her home was ransacked and a computer was confiscated. The police didn't find any evidence in the computer and had to return it to her. She was transferred to the Chaoyang District Police Department and has been detained there since then. It's said that a court hearing was arranged, but Gu Xiaohua was prohibited from seeing a lawyer and she wasn't given any court hearing information. It has been ten months since her arrest.

During the evening of September 4, 2005, practitioners Zhao Tingshi and Sun Xianhui, from Xiongyue Town, Gaizhou City, distributed some truth-clarifying materials in Yangyun Village and were arrested by personnel from the Yangyun Village Police Station. They are now being held at the Gaizhou City Detention Center. Their case has been transferred to a court.

Practitioner Ms. Jin Xuefang, who is in her 60s, lives in the Tongzhou District of Beijing. During the morning of October 29, 2005, policemen and security guards arrested her when she was clarifying the truth about Falun Gong and distributing truth-clarifying materials to tourists at Tiananmen Square. Police and 610 Office personnel confiscated some truth-clarifying materials, copies of the "Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party," and other information about quitting the Chinese Communist Party. They also took a copy machine and other equipment from her home. It is known that she is being held at the Tongzhou District Police Department.

During the evening of October 12, 2005, a group of personnel from the 610 Office in the Nanshan District and from the Majialong Community Residential Office went to practitioner Ms. Jia Yuping's home "to have a talk." Since Jia Yuping did not have time, she postponed this to 2:00 p.m. on October 17. At around 3:00 p.m. on October 17, Wang Li, the Nanshan District 610 Office chief, and section chiefs Xu and Chen came to practitioner Jia's home again. After a while, Feng, the Majialong Community Office head also arrived. After a few minutes of talking they said that the home was messy and suggested going to the Community Office. However, once they duped practitioner Jia Yuping into getting into a car, they illegally arrested her and took her to the Xili Brainwashing Center, also called the Shenzhen City Legal System Education School.

This is the third time people from the 610 Office have arrested Jia Yuping. The first time was on November 29, 2001. She was detained for fifteen days for clarifying the truth. Afterwards she was held at the Nanshan Detention Center for about two months, then later transferred to the Shenzhen City Sheltering and Education Center and held there for eighteen months, and was released on June 19, 2003.

The second time was on November 26, 2004. Officers from the local police station and the chief from the local community security team told Jia Yuping to come have a talk at the community office. Fu Zhansheng from National Security Section of the Nanshan District Police Department directed a ransacking of her home. The persecutors beat Jia Yuping and put her into the Shekou Detention Center for two weeks. Eventually, Jia Yuping walked out with the power of her righteous thoughts.

On October 25, 2005 a hotel security guard found practitioner Mr. Chen Jianzhong from Changsha City, Hunan Province clarifying the truth of Falun Gong and distributing truth-clarifying materials at the hotel and took him to a nearby police station. Later, Chen was transferred to the Furong District Police Department. She is now being held at the Changsha City Detention Center, but all family visits have been denied.

Practitioner Ms. Zhong Falan is a resident from Mizhou Street, Qianhuangtuan Village, Zhucheng City who was arrested on September 27, 2005 when clarifying the truth of Falun Gong. The next day, when a few policemen including Xu Guangrong went to ransack Zhong Falan's home, they happened to find the couple Mr. Zhao Jinmin and Ms. Song Zhengfen from Longdu Street, Lanjia Village, Zhucheng City at practitioner Zhong's home. The police attempted to force the couple to curse Master Li, but the couple refused. As a result, the police took them away and held them at the Zhucheng City Detention Center.

Afterwards police ransacked Zhao Jinmin's home. They confiscated some Falun Gong books, materials, a TV set, a VCD player, and over 1,000 yuan in cash that Zhao had earned while working in Qingdao City.

In the detention center Zhong Falan, Zhang Zhenying, and Meng Fanqin went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. After seven days of a hunger strike the police sent them to the Zibo City Wangcun Women's Forced Labor Camp. Zhao Jinmin was also sent to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp on October 27 after a one-month detention. Song Zhengfen was released after a month of detention, but the police ordered her to report to them every month, or be sentenced to a year of forced labor.

Mr. Qian Houmin, 49, on October 6th 2000, began a 45-day incarceration period at the Ranghulu District Detention Center in Daqing City. Less than two months after being released, he was again held at Daqing City Detention Center for six months. In order to avoid illegal arrest, he left home after his release. In April 2002, personnel from the Zhaodong City Police Department arrested him again because he took part in broadcasting a truth-clarifying video on local TV. He was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment, and in October he was sent to the Hulan District Prison in Heilongjiang Province. Recently, policemen brutally beat him because he shared experiences with other practitioners. As a result, he cannot walk or take care of himself.

On October 30, 2005, personnel from the Hongdao Police Station arrested practitioners Ms. Liu Xiuwen, 76, and Ms. Han Caihua, 52, from Hongdao Town, Chengyang District, Qingdao City when the two practitioners were clarifying the truth at a local fair. The persecutors later ransacked the practitioners' homes. They are currently being detained at the Hongdao Police Station.

Arrest of Falun Gong practitioners by Laizhou City police and 610 Office agents in Shandong Province

Officials from the Laizhou City Police Department and the 610 Office in Shandong Province arrested 13 practitioners before October 1, 2005. They sent the practitioners to brainwashing centers and extorted money from them. Between October 1 and 26, another more than ten practitioners were arrested and sent to brainwashing centers. The police broke into the home of practitioner Ms. Chen Yuehua on October 28. They broke down her door, barged into her room, and illegally arrested her.

Officials in the Lushuihe District in Jilin Province are still harassing and persecuting Falun Gong practitioners

After a public Falun Gong announcement appeared in the Lushuihe District, officials from the town police department and other police departments went to the homes of practitioners during the early morning of November 2, 2005, and tried to force the practitioners to write "guarantee statements". Beginning in October 2005, officials from the town police department have constantly harassed practitioners and searched their homes under the guise of "checking residence permits."

1. Mr. Wang Fuping from Zhaoqing City was illegally imprisoned in a forced labor camp. His family is looking forward to his return.

Mr. Wang Fuping, a Falun Gong practitioner from Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province, was sentenced in March 2005 to a one-year term of forced labor for handing out truth-clarifying material. So far he has endured eight months of persecution in the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp. Mr. Wang provides the sole financial support for his family. His family members and children are all eager for his early return.

2. Practitioners Ma Chunli and Zhu Guoyou from Dehui City, Jilin Province, were illegally sentenced to six years

Falun Gong practitioners Ma Chunli and Zhu Guoyou from Dehui City, Jilin Province were both arrested on December 14, 2004, and have been imprisoned for eleven months. 3. Falun Gong practitioners Liu Yunpeng and Li Yong from Huludao City, Liaoning Province have been illegally given forced labor camp sentences

On October 14, 2005, Liu Yunpeng and Li Yong were both "illegally arrested" by the 610 Office police in Huludao City. The police confiscated personal property from both of these practitioners and stole many valuables such as computers. The police then imprisoned these two practitioners in a detention center. Recently people have said that the police have already sent them to the Huludao Forced Labor Re-education Center.
