During the so-called sensitive periods, many Falun Gong practitioners are subject to more severe watch, harassment, abduction and/or tortures. Since November 22, 2005, a group of investigators from the United Nations have been investigating torture in China. In the evening of November 24, 2005, police from Dongchengfang Town Police Station, Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province, under the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) policy of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, took into custody two female Falun Gong practitioners in Xitong Village, Dongchengfang Town, including Ms. Liu Jizhi (51 years old) and Ms. Han Yuzhi (42 years old), from their respective homes. At Dongchengfang Town Police Station, a policeman named He Xuejian raped Ms. Liu Jizhi and Ms. Han Yuzhi during the so-called "official investigation."

Ms. Liu Jizhi is from Xitong Village, Dongchengfang Town, Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province. Her husband's name is Wei Xiliang (48 years old). They have two daughters. The older one is 19 years old and the younger one is 17 years old, both of whom are students. Before Ms. Liu Jizhi started practicing Falun Gong in 1999, she suffered from several types of illness. She was particularly tormented by lumbar disc protrusion. Since she started practicing Falun Gong, she has become a very healthy and moral person and does not need to see doctors anymore. Although they are not well off, they are very happy together and living their lives with content. Since the CCP started its ruthless persecution against Falun Gong, the police started to harass Ms. Liu and her family at her home. Before each "politically sensitive day," the police would take her to the local government's complex. The police have been repeatedly extorting money from her in the name of fine even to this day. This time, before the rape, the police shouted at her, "If you dare to practice Falun Gong again, I will keep collecting fines until you go bankrupt!"

Around 8:00 p.m., November 24, 2005, while Ms. Liu Jizhi was alone at home with doors locked during her husband's absence, six to seven policemen climbed the wall and broke into her home. They pressed her to the ground while they ransacked her home and left nothing unturned. The police confiscated her husband's notebooks, Falun Gong exercise music tape and an audiocassette player with an English cassette. In the dim light, Ms. Liu could tell that they were wearing police uniforms, but they failed to comply with the law for they did not show Ms. Liu their police identification or any search warrant. That night, Ms. Liu was brought to the village's group, where she was transferred to the police van and sent to the police station.

After years of persistent persecution since July 20, 1999, the local police seem to have come accustomed to hating and torturing Falun Gong practitioners. At Dongchengfang Town Police Station in Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province, the police started their so-called "interrogation." They demanded, "How many people are practicing Falun Gong in your village?" Ms. Liu replied, "I don't know." The police immediately jumped on Mr. Liu and brutally beat her. They also made her squat with her arms stretched out in front of her chest. Next they began to beat her with stun batons and rubber clubs. Then the police forced her to stand up with her knees slightly bent as shown in the top middle photograph and kicked her from behind, causing her to collapse to the ground. After repeated torture and beating in this manner, Ms. Liu's hips, thighs and many areas on her body were severely bruised and injured. A policeman even groped her body in a lewd manner and told her obscenely, "Do you think I am being thuggish?"

Around 2:00 p.m., November 25, 2005, a policeman named He Xuejian took Ms. Liu to a room with two beds in it. A very tanned policeman in his early 30's with the nickname Dajun was laying on one of the beds. There was another policeman in his 40's surnamed Wang in the room. He Xuejian savagely beat her as soon as they entered the room. Next he pressed her against a bed and started groping her breasts. Then he lifted her shirt up and shocked her breasts with a stun baton. While watching the sparks from the stun baton, He Xuejian repeatedly commented, "This is fun! This is fun!" The policeman surnamed Wang watched and said fiercely, "Beat her up! Beat her up good!" Then he left the room.

Despite Ms. Liu's protest and struggle, He Xuejian stripped off her shirt and sat on her stomach. Then he began to poke at her genitals with his finger. Then he switched to another position in order to remove her pants. During the struggle, Ms. Liu pleaded, "I am thinking for your own good--don't do this to me! You are a policeman! You must not commit such a crime! This is totally wrong! You are a young man! I am an old woman. Please spare me." He Xuejian ignored her plea and took out his penis and penetrated her. During the rape, He Xuejian repeatedly slapped her face and choked her neck.

Feeling desperate, Ms. Liu thought of killing herself, but almost immediately she heard a voice in her head, "It is a sin to commit suicide!" Then she shouted out loud for help with all the strength she had left. However, given her physical condition at the time, no one outside of the room could hear her desperate call for help: "Help me! Please help me!"

Afterwards, He Xuejian put on his pants and made obscene and lewd comments, looking very pleased and satisfied. Ms. Liu burst into tears. She cried and sobbed. She left the room and told other Falun Gong practitioners, "He has done a terrible thing! He has done a terrible thing! You must be careful!" Then He Xuejian told another Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Han Yuzhi to enter the room and raped her.

During the two consecutive rapes, the young policeman nicknamed Dajun did nothing. He turned a few times on the bed. Then he watched He Xuejian rape the two female Falun Gong practitioners. He did not say anything, nor did he try to stop the rapes.

After the rape, the police told Ms. Liu Jizhi to mop the floor, clean up the rooms and the office. According to Ms. Liu Jizhi, her legs were weak and she was absent-minded for she was shell-shocked from the horrible rape. After Ms. Han Yuzhi was raped, she was also forced to mop the floor and wash police cars.

That night He Xujian (still in police uniform) took Ms. Liu and walked around in the police station looking for a room to rape her again. Eventually he gave up the idea because there were people in every room. The police kept Ms. Liu until November 26 when her husband returned home and borrowed 3,000 yuan to pay the "ransom" to the police.

The aforementioned rape severely injured Ms. Liu Jizhi, as well as her husband and her daughters. For the past few days since the rape, Ms. Liu has been crying and sobbing every day and staring blankly. She looks very confused and absent-minded. We are currently collecting more information about the rape.

Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province was infamous for having stripped 18 female Falun Gong practitioners naked and thrown them into a men's cell. After the gang rape, Masanjia Forced Labor Camp not only denied its crime, but also took many measurements to conceal its crimes and eliminate the evidences. Ms. Wei Xingyan, a graduate student at Chongqing University in Sichuan Province, was raped by a policeman in front of two female prison inmates after she was brought into police custody for practicing Falun Gong. After the policeman's rape was exposed, the police transferred Wei Xingyan elsewhere and no one could find her. All the Falun Gong practitioners that helped expose the horrible rape were each sentenced to many years in prison. Chongqing University even removed all the information about her department from the school's website and denied the existence of Wei Xingyan.

Practitioner Ms. Yu Zhenghong was a resident of Siqian Village, Songcun Town, Wendeng City, Shandong Province. She was arrested on September 27, 2005 by 610 Office staff, lead by Xiang Hongping. Ms. Yu went on a 15-day hunger strike and was savagely force-fed. After Ms. Yu became critically ill, she was taken to the Central Hospital of Wendeng City by 610 Office staff, pretending to be her family members. When the hospital notified them that Ms. Yu was dying, they sent her home. Ms. Yu died on November 17, 2005. Also, practitioner Mr. Han Yusheng, a 69-year-old resident of Shandong Village, Songcun Town, passed away on October 15, 2005 after he suffered a mental disorder from the torture.

Ms. Yu Zhenghong was 43 years old when she passed away. In her own words about her life before practicing Falun Gong, "Before practicing, I suffered from many diseases. When I was very young, I was poisoned by some pesticide. I lost consciousness three days after the incident and was taken to the emergency room of a hospital. I survived the accident, yet the doctors advised that I would suffer aftereffects for the rest of my life. Later on I came down with many other illnesses, the most serious being uterus cancer, breast cancer, and headaches. I lived with extreme pain." After she started to practice Falun Gong, all her illnesses disappeared and she came to understand the true purpose of life and how to be a good person.

After the persecution started, Ms. Yu went to Beijing to clarify the truth on July 20, 2000. She was arrested, and police from Wendeng City, who were at the liaison office in Beijing, took her back home. Staff from the Political Protection Section of the local police detained and tortured her for thirteen days. Because the detention center could not hold so many practitioners, they transferred her to Songcun police station, after which the village government officials helped get her released. In the fall of the same year, policemen Xiang Hongping and Yu Jincheng arrested her at her home after she returned from work. Her six-year-old son was scared terribly and cried.

On the way to Wendeng Detention Center, Ms. Yu told the police that they were violating existing law by arresting her. She asked them, "Why do you leave alone those criminals who kill and set fire, but persecute Falun Gong practitioners?" The police said bluntly, "We don't dare to go after the criminals, because they might harm us. Falun Gong practitioners don't fight or curse back, so we are not afraid to arrest you."

Ms. Yu was detained for over ten days. Several days after she was released, she was arrested again and detained in Songcun Town, and then at Wendeng Detention Center. She was also detained there for over ten days before she was taken back to Songcun Town's brainwashing center. On June 1, 2001, ten police officers arrested Ms. Yu on her way home. During the detention, Ms. Yu became very weak and uncomfortable, showing symptoms of her previous diseases. Doctors told the police that her condition could not be treated -- she would become mentally ill or even die.

Three months later, on August 14, 2001, they ransacked Ms. Yu's home. She was forced to leave home and went to Weihai City, where she held a temporary job. However, she was arrested again on October 14, 2005 and taken to Wendeng Detention Center. Ms. Yu went on a hunger strike in the detention center. On the fourth day of her hunger strike, she was taken to a hospital for force-feeding. The inhuman torture made her vomit blood for three days. On the eighth day of her hunger strike, she was sent to a forced labor camp in Jinan City. The labor camp refused to take her after realizing her health condition. They did not want to take responsibility for her death.

Since then, Ms. Yu suffered constant harassment at home. At 6:30 a.m. on September 27, 2005, staff from the state security team (headed by Xiang Hongping) arrested her again. Mr. Yu went on a hunger strike and was savagely force-fed. When Ms. Yu was near death, they claimed that she "was faking death" and took her to the Central Hospital (of Wendeng City). Hospital staff told them that Ms. Yu was dying and that they should notify her family members immediately. They refused to do so and did not release her. Instead, they pretended to be Ms. Yu's family members and stayed in the hospital. The next day, when they saw that Ms. Yu was dying, they sent her home. Ms. Yu never recovered. She died on the evening of November 17, 2005.

Mr. Han Yusheng started to practice Falun Gong in 1996 and enjoyed good health afterwards. After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, the police ransacked his home, detained him, and extorted money from him often. The Wendeng City 610 Office sentenced him to three years of forced labor. Because he was diagnosed with high blood pressure, the labor camp refused to take him. Mr. Han's mind was affected severely. Once, policeman Xiang Hongping destroyed his residence card publicly in his village. After that, the persecutors harassed him many times. As a result, Mr. Han suffered a mental collapse, and he often cried. Mr. Han passed away on October 15, 2005.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Guozhen from Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province was 71 years old. She kept practicing and clarifying the truth, and was arrested and detained many times by the CCP's lawless officials as a result. She died on November 2, 2005.

Ms. Sun Guozhen went to Beijing to clarify the truth and appeal on behalf of Falun Gong in April 2000. She was arrested and detained in the Shuangcheng City Second Detention Center for more than a month. She was transferred to a brainwashing center for a month because she firmly held onto her faith. On January 17, 2001, she was carried from her home and taken to another brainwashing center for several months. She was tortured severely there, by methods such as having to sleep on a wet, cold cement floor. As a result she displayed stroke symptoms. Ms. Sun Guozhen never wrote the three statements, and kept clarifying the truth to people. They also tortured her by tying her to a chair, slapping her face, and kicking her legs.

Ms. Sun Guozhen's heart disease recurred due to the inhuman torture she received in the brainwashing center, and she almost died. Led by CCP Shuangcheng City Committee Secretary Zhu Qingwen and the 610 Office, several hundred Falun Gong practitioners were locked in the brainwashing center, and the detention centers were also filled with practitioners. On January 21, 2001, Ms. Sun Guozhen and 79 fellow practitioners were sent to forced labor. Ms. Sun was sent to the local CCP School in May, 2001. She passed out soon after entering the labor camp. Her family was very angry at the mistreatment she received, and she was released after being extorted of four hundred yuan.

In the spring of 2003, Ms. Sun Guozhen was reported while posting some Falun Gong banners. The local police extorted three hundred yuan again. Her physical condition started getting worse and worse due to the constant harassment and mistreatment. She died on November 2, 2005.

Since October 26, 2005, all Falun Gong practitioners at the Fourth Prison of Hebei Province have been on a hunger strike collectively to protest the atrocities of the prison authorities and to appeal for an unconditional release. The practitioners there are in critical condition after being on hunger strike for twenty-nine days.

The Fourth Prison of Hebei Province, (also known as the Northern Suburb Prison of Shijiazhuang City) is located at 3 Beihuan West Road, Shijiazhuang City.

According to a recent report from Clearwisdom.net, the prison guards violently persecuted Falun Gong practitioners using all kinds of inhuman and brutal torture methods. On August 25, officials there forcibly detained four Falun Gong practitioners. Three of the practitioners included Guo Zhijiang from the Seventh Group, Jin Hui from the Third Group and Zhang Zhishui from the Eighth Group. The officials dragged them to a specially guarded building, where criminal inmates were instigated by the police to torture those practitioners day and night. The practitioners were forbidden to sleep, use the bathroom, talk or move. If anyone closed their eyes or moved slightly, they were savagely beaten. The police force-fed the practitioners on hunger strike with highly concentrated salt solution several times.

In mid-August, Falun Gong practitioner Cai Baohua had been illegally held in solitary confinement by the Fifth Group police officer Yu Chunguang for thirteen days. The police from the Sixth Group instigated inmates to beat four Falun Gong practitioners in public. Bruises left from the beatings were still noticeable several days later on the right side of the face of Yang Jin'gang and the right arm of Ke Xingguo.

Falun Gong practitioners in Shijiazhuang City, including Wang Shengbiao, Niu Min'gang, and Yang Xiaojie have also been illegally detained there. All along, Falun Gong practitioners there have been peacefully protesting the cruel persecution using all means and appealing for an unconditional release.

Please appeal to the entire international community to offer effective support for rescuing Falun Gong practitioners and to stop all kinds of illegal and inhuman actions at the Fourth Prison in Hebei Province.

In the past two months, 610 Office branches and government officials in Juyang, Yanjiao, and Huangzhuang Town of Sanhe City, Hebei Province, along with the policemen in local police departments and stations have illegally arrested several local practitioners and blackmailed their families. They even arrested non-practitioners who attempted to protect the practitioners.

On October 27, Yanjiao Town 610 Office personnel and several plainclothes police officers from the police department broke into Mr. Zhang Lianchun's home in Caigezhuang Village and arrested his wife, practitioner Zhang Fengrong. At around 11 o'clock the same morning, Bai Shuzhong from the Economics and Trade Committee of the Juyang Town Government, Kang Fuli from the Political and Legal Committee, and Deputy Sheriff Wang Shengjie from Juyang Police Station broke into Mr. Ai Xinghe's home in Yangxianggongzhuang Village in Juyang Town, arrested him, and sent him to the brainwashing center in Langfang City. On the morning of October 26, Wang Baosong, Zhang Fengbo, and Liu Xuebin from Huangzhuang Town Police Station of the Sanhe City Police Department, along with Li Yongtian from the Huangzhuang Town Government, went to Baizhuang Village of Huangzhuang Town to arrest practitioner Xie Fengming. To this day, Xie's whereabouts are unknown.

In order to avoid being arrested, Ms. Xie Fengming went to neighbor Gao Ruicai's home. The police went to Gao's home, demanding Ms. Xie with threats. Gao said, "She is a good person. She did not do anything wrong. I just want to protect her." In spite of this, the thugs took both Ms. Xie and Gao Ruicai away. They also confiscated dozens of Ms. Xie's Falun Gong books, two audio cassettes, and some notes from her study. They demanded 2000 yuan before releasing Gao. Gao's family had connections and was able to reduce the fine to 1500 yuan.

The Yanjiao Town, Sanhe City government 610 Office and the Yanjiao Police Department Branch, under frequent orders from the Yanjiao Police Department to bring them some practitioners, attempted to arrest practitioner Mr. Tian Rongxiao of the 5th Company of the No. 1 Bureau of Transportation but failed. They even attempted to get information from Mr. Tian's grandson, treating him as a bargaining chip to arrest Tian, but he fortunately learned about it and fled. However, on October 27, they arrested Mr. Tian Rongxiao's wife, Zhang Fengrong.

On the morning of October 9, several thugs went to Yangxianggongzhuang Village of Juyang Town and asked the farmers for practitioner Mr. Ai Xinghe's home. Since Mr. Ai was not at home, they were not able to arrest him. Two weeks later, undaunted, the officials and policemen set out again to arrest Mr. Ai and send him to the brainwashing center. On that morning, the 610 Office of Sanhe City got directly involved in the attempt to arrest over ten practitioners in the city. Due to the resistance from practitioners' families, their working units, and neighbors, they failed to arrest most of the practitioners.

In spite of this, there were some people helping the evil to conduct bad deeds. Pan Weiguo, the vice president of Sanhe City Hospital, and Li, the head of the Security Department, took the 610 Office staff to arrest nurse Ms. Guo Chunying and anesthetist Xue Shuqing, and sent them to the brainwashing center in Langfang City.

Ms. Guo Chunying previously had hepatitis B prior to practicing Falun Gong. Her co-worker who had same disease passed away long ago. Ms. Guo regained her health after beginning Falun Gong practice eight years ago. After Ms. Guo was sent to the brainwashing center in Langfang City, she started a hunger strike to protest the persecution. According to the practitioners who were taken from Bazhou City to the brainwashing center in the Transportation Hotel of Langfang City, the methods commonly used in the brainwashing center included insults, brutal beatings, flicking the eyeballs, sleep deprivation, and the use of nerve-damaging drugs and shots.

The guards also put drugs in the food and water as well as in what they used in force-feeding. Small doses usually can make people lose their minds without their being aware of it, and large doses can make people suffer even more. After more than ten days of physical and mental torture, Ms. Guo Chunying's old illness recurred and she had to be taken back to her former hospital.

As soon as Ms. Xue Shuqing returned to the hospital from shopping on a holiday, a group of police immediately rushed over to surround her. They then dragged her and pushed her into a van. Ms. Xue was so stupefied by the abrupt arrest that after she was sent to the brainwashing center in Langfang, she did not eat, drink, or sleep, but kept on crying for four days and nights. The police were afraid of what would happen so they asked Xue Shuqing's work unit to take her back.

In September, under the direct involvement of the higher authorities in Hebei Province, the 610 Office in Sanhe City announced that they were to arrest thirty practitioners.

At 6 o'clock on September 19, the police and Wang Lei from the 610 Office went to practitioner Ms. Xiuqing's home in Building 6 in Chengjian New Village. They deceived Ms. Li into opening the door and carried her off to the brainwashing center in Langfang City. Twenty days later, a group of people from the Langfang 610 Office, along with Han Zhiguang, the 610 Office head, tried to force Ms. Li to write statements promising to give up practicing Falun Gong and to report on other practitioners. However, Ms. Li Xiuqing managed to escape from the brainwashing center. The police immediately went to her home but could not find her so they extorted 4000 yuan in cash from her husband. Including the 1,000 yuan they extorted when they abducted Ms. Li Xiuqing, they took a total of 5000 yuan from Li Xiuqing's family.

During the past six years, the 610 Office in Sanhe City, each town government, and all the police stations enforced Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist Party's policy of genocide towards Falun Gong practitioners, bringing severe and damaging interference to 1,000 practitioners in Sanhe City. Ever since obtaining his position as a deputy director of the 610 Office, Wang Haibin has abused his power by directing the police to frequently arrest practitioners, ransack their homes, send them to the brainwashing centers and forced labor camps, and pressed the town government to send practitioners to the brainwashing centers. As a result, many practitioners have been forced to become homeless. Several practitioners' parents have passed away due to anxiety and agony, many of their families have been broken up, and many practitioners' children cannot go to school as other kids.

This article summarizes some persecution incidents of Falun Gong practitioners committed by officers from the Shenglilu Police Department in Zhangjiakou City. Those individuals who are responsible include Zheng Jianguo, head of the police department, and Zhang, deputy head of the police department.

Practitioner Mrs. Yang Shulan Savagely Tortured in a Labor Camp and Forced to Leave Her Home

At around 10:00 p.m. on October 11, 2000, approximately six officers from the Shenglilu Police Department broke into the home of Falun Gong practitioner Mrs. Yang Shulan. They confiscated her Falun Gong books and took her to the Shenglilu Police Department. On October 13 they sent her to the Chongli County Detention Center. On October 27 they transferred her to the Shangyi County Detention Center. On November 2, they sent her to the Kaiping Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City to be held for three years.

Yang Shulan was tortured at the labor camp. She was also forced to watch Falun Gong-slandering videotapes daily. 

Yang Shulan persisted in Falun Gong practice, and guard Yan Hongli beat her until her face was covered in bruises. The guards tied her to the window frame and shocked her with electric batons. Some practitioners went on hunger strikes. Group head Zhou tricked the practitioners by telling them he merely wanted to "have a talk," and lured them to a narrow valley with thick snow on the ground. Then he forced the practitioners to stay in that valley for over ten hours as a torture.

Guard Liu Liying took practitioner Sun Yang from Qinhuangdao City to a large classroom, ordered inmates to kick Sun Yang's private areas and admonished her not to tell anyone. She threatened to have her kicked even more sadistically if she told other people. At around 6:00 a.m. on January 16, 2000, a group of male guards barged into the female group and searched the practitioners' cells. They tossed practitioners' belongings everywhere. They hung some practitioners from persimmon trees to coerce them to give up Falun Gong.

Yang Shulan was cruelly abused at the labor camp. She agreed to give up Falun Gong against her conscience, and she was released.

In the morning of February 18, 2004, Gu Jianguo, head of Qiaoxi Police Department's National Security Group, and Wang, former deputy head of the Xinhua Street Police Station, along with officials from the Desheng Street Party Committee, broke into Yang Shulan's rented home. They claimed to check rental registrations and then illegally arrested Yang Shulan and another practitioner. They extorted 200 yuan from Yang Shulan's husband and 1,000 yuan from her landlord. Yang Shulan was shackled to a metal stool for three days and two nights.

On the evening of February 20, the officials sent Yang Shulan to the Shisanli Custody Center. Yang Shulan refused to cooperate with the persecutors by refusing to respond to roll call. Women guards Ding and Hu and woman doctor Liu incited inmates to savagely beat Yang Shulan.

After Yang Shulan fainted during a hunger strike, guard Hu ordered inmates to pull her up and abuse her verbally and physically. Hu kicked Yang Shulan's lower back with the sharp tips of her leather shoes. They also force-fed Yang Shulan. About five inmates, including Liu Fang and Liu Wei, pinned Yang Shulan to the ground. They held her legs, pinched her nose and mouth, and then stuffed some food into her mouth with a spoon. Inmate Liu Wei violently kicked Yang Shulan's stomach, which knocked the wind out of her for a few seconds and she collapsed by the sink.

Because she was extremely weak, Yang Shulan was taken to the People's Hospital for a physical examination. Then these cruel people again sent Yang Shulan to a forced labor camp. They told Yang Shulan's husband to send her clothes to the Qiaoxi Police Department. Officer Gu Jianguo extorted 3,000 yuan from Yang Shulan's family. On March 25, Yang Shulan's husband was extorted of another 600 yuan when he picked her up from the Shisanli Detention Center.

Less than ten days after she went home, local police officers, along with Wang Huayu, head of the Xiangyangpo Street Party Committee, and Mei, deputy secretary of the Shenglilu Administration Office, twice harassed Yang Shulan at her home. She was compelled to leave home on April 11. On April 19, local police officers Sun, Wang Huayu and two other officers went to the home of Yang Shulan's grandmother. They coerced Yang Shulan's husband, who was there at the time, to write a guarantee statement promising he would never go to Beijing to appeal.

Yang Shulan returned home periodically. At around 7:00 p.m. on July 19, officer Sun from the Shenglilu Police Department, and Wang Huayu, head of the Xiangyangpo Street Party Committee, again harassed Yang Shulan at her home and told her to write a guarantee statement or else they threatened to send her to a brainwashing class. Yang Shulan firmly refused.

Practitioner Ms. Zhou Guimei tortured to the brink of death in 2003

On May 19, 2003, practitioner Zhou Guimei was arrested at Yangjiafen and illegally detained at the Shisanli Detention Center. While on a hunger strike, the police commandeered a group of roughnecks, who they coerced to climb on her, slap her face and force-feed her. She had only a breath left after 28 days of torture. The persecutors released her on medical parole "awaiting interrogation" after extorting 4,600 yuan from her.

Nine practitioners including Zhou Guimei had gone to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong on October 6, 2000, and were arrested at Deshengmen in Beijing. Ms. Zhou was detained at the Zhangjiakou City Liaison Office in Beijing and held at Xuanhua Detention Center for one month. The perpetrators extorted 15,000 yuan from her family. On October 31, 2001, Zhou Guimei again went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong and was sent to the Jiaotong Detention center where she was held for 15 days. Later she was transferred to the Shisanli Detention Center in Zhangjiakou City. During Ms. Zhou's hunger strike, detention center supervisor Cui Weidong poured water on her head. Altogether, Ms. Zhou was held for nine months and was extorted of 4,000 yuan.

Police Extort Money from Widow in Her Seventies

At around noon one day in April 2003, Zheng Jianguo, head of the Shenglilu Police Department, Zhang, deputy head, and another officer broke into the home of widow Yang Sulian who was in her 70s. This took place in Mingdenan, Qiaoxi. Zhang took the lead in ransacking her home. They confiscated the book Zhuan Falun, Master's articles, and three of Master's pictures. The perpetrators took Yang Sulian to the police department and demanded 1,000 yuan. They forced her son and relatives to borrow the money. Her family eventually pooled 900 yuan and gave it to the police before they allowed Yang Sulian to return home. Because she has no source of income, the relatives are still struggling to pay back the debt.

Persecution of Practitioners Yang Sujun and Yu Chenglan

Practitioner Mrs. Yang Sujun previously suffered from chronic heart palpitations, severe stomach pain, and severe open sores all over the body that afflicted her all year long.

For a decade, her body was often wrapped in bandages. After she started practicing Falun Gong in 1997 all of her illnesses disappeared. On December 29, 2000, Yang Sujun went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong from her own experiences. She was arrested. Officers from the Shenglilu Police Department took her back to Zhangjiakou City and shackled her to a metal chair for three days and nights. They had detained her unlawfully.

Yang Sujun refused to sign a document and told the officers, "I didn't commit any crimes." The officers cursed her. Then they arrested Yang Sujun's older brother and forced him to sign on his sister's behalf. Yang Sujun's husband was ill and he trembled when he heard of the arrest. He was so choked with anger and anguish that he couldn't speak.

Despite Yang Sujun having a young daughter and a sick husband, the police still detained her for eighteen days at a custody center. She was tortured at the custody center and her heart disease relapsed, yet the persecutors refused to release her. They went to her 80-year-old mother and said they would not release Yang Sujun unless her mother paid them a certain amount of money. Yang Sujun's mother lived on her own and her children provided for her. She didn't have much money herself. After she presented the police with her situation several times, the police reluctantly reduced the extortion amount to 2,000 yuan, in addition to a 360 yuan "food fee." They also tried to extort 10,000 yuan from Yang Sujun's employers. Although her place of employment was bankrupt and all the workers were laid off, personnel from the Qiaodong 610 Office still ordered the court to impose a 10,000 yuan fine on Yang Sujun's employer, but because of the bankruptcy they couldn't get the money.

On May 30, 2001, plainclothes police officers arrested practitioner Yu Chenglan right after she had unfurled a banner that said, "Falun Dafa is Great!" She was taken to the Tiananmen Police Department and was later transferred to the Qianmen Police Department. The police took her necklace and LC card. They tricked her into telling them her name, after which they sent her to the Shenglilu Police Department. The police forced her to take them to her home where she lived with her sister, and then proceeded to ransack both homes. They confiscated a whole set of Falun Gong books as well as personal belongings. Subsequently, Ms. Yu held a hunger strike while being held at Shisanli Detention Center and became very weak. She was extorted of 3,000 yuan before her sister carried her home on her back.

In August 2001, officers from Shenglilu Police Department, led by officials from the Street Party Committee, arrested Yu again. This time they sent her to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in Baoding City. Her daughter, home from Tianjin City on a university holiday, was home alone. Her sister returned from Beijing and borrowed 6,000 yuan to pay for her niece's tuition. Yu Chenglan was savagely tortured and subjected to brainwashing at the labor camp.

Practitioner Wang Haiying Tortured and Sent to Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp

Practitioner Ms. Wang Haiying suffered from angina pectoris and breast hyperplasia, all of which disappeared after she started practicing Falun Gong in May 1997. In late May 2001 she went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong and was arrested and taken to a police precinct near Tiananmen Square. She clarified the truth to the police. She left the police department openly and with dignity later. In late August 2001, persecutors followed Wang Haiying when she posted truth clarifying flyers. She was arrested and taken to the Shenglilu Police Department.

The police officers handcuffed Wang Haiying to an electric power pole under the scorching sun and tried to trick her into revealing her name and address. Many people monitored her around the clock. They cuffed her hands behind her back, tortured her with the tiger bench, deprived her of sleep or even closing her eyes, deprived her of food and force-fed her with water. Song, the deputy police chief, knocked out one of her teeth with a metal cup. After they found out Wang Haiying's name and address, the police chief slapped her face until blood gushed from her mouth. A young police officer shocked her with electric batons and demanded to know the source of the truth clarifying flyers. Wang Haiying refused to answer.

On the sixth day, the police called in officers from the Criminal Police Group, who shocked Wang Haiying all over her body with electric baton(s) throughout the night. They struck her throat with their palms until she could hardly breathe. They took off her shoes and struck the soles of her feet with spiked rubber clubs; they tightened the "wolf-teeth" handcuffs until they cut into her wrists; they grabbed her cuffed hands and jerked them back and forth until blood dripped down her wrists. During this period they ransacked Wang Haiying's home. At that time they shoved Ms. Wang's mother-in-law to the ground and stole Falun Gong books, Master's picture, a picture of Falun and a framed copy of Lunyu. They held Wang Haiying at the police department for six days and then extorted 2,000 yuan from her family, promising to release her. After they got the money, however, they sent Wang Haiying to the Shisanli Detention Center.

On the ninth day of the hunger strike held by Wang Haiying and others, the guards carried Wang Haiying outside and again told her they were sending her home, but in fact they sent her to the Jijiafang Brainwashing Class. They tried to extort 2,000 yuan from her employer and threatened to send her to a forced labor camp if her work place didn't pay. The head of her work place ignored the police.

Six days later, early in the morning, the perpetrators secretly sent Wang Haiying to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province. Her family went to the police department and inquired about her whereabouts. The police officers said they didn't know. Wang Haiying was held at the labor camp for two months. Because she didn't have any money, even a change of clothes or bedding with her, the group heads of the labor camp reluctantly agreed to let her write a letter to her family.

Soon after Wang Haiying was sent to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp she developed scabies all over her body. The condition grew worse until she did not have a single patch of intact skin. Her hands and feet ulcerated and seeped pus and blood; the itch was unbearable. She wrapped her body in thick toilet paper and put layers of paper towels on her bed. Many wounds cracked open in her hands that hurt terribly when coming in contact with water.

Despite her condition, the overseers forced her to clean the bathroom and crawl on the floor to clean the floor, forcing her to clean it repeatedly. In the winter she was forced to dig ditches and carry soil. The axe she used was large and coarse and made her hands bleed. She was also forced to pick cotton and dig turnips in the fields.

At the labor camp she copied and delivered Master's articles to other determined Falun Gong practitioners, and the head inmate reported her. The group head called her into a small room and struck her with a four-edged wooden club. He broke many clubs beating Wang Haiying who sweated profusely from the pain. Her pelvis and buttocks swelled so severely that she could neither sit nor walk. During that period of time she had a high fever and diarrhea, but the guards forced her to wear a heavy coat and pants in the heat of summer and pull grass in the fields. They also forced her to watch and listen to Falun Gong-slandering radio broadcasts and videotapes.

One time the perpetrators forced the practitioners to watch Falun Gong-slandering videos and later write "experience-sharing articles." The practitioners wrote, "These programs are scripted and staged." The practitioners also wrote about the facts of the persecution at the labor camp. Group head Wu called the practitioners into a room. He slapped their faces, hit them and coerced them to lie about the persecution. Wang Haiying refused to lie, and group heads Zhang Yanyan and Zhao ordered inmates to keep striking her face and kicking her. They took turns hitting her. Zhang Yanyan also vehemently kicked Wang Haiying's shins with the soles of her hard boots. They beat her for an entire morning, took a lunch break, and then returned to beat her for the afternoon. After dinner they beat her again.

They also deprived the practitioners of sleep for days on end. While sleep-deprived, they forced the practitioners to listen to Falun Gong-slandering lies. They beat the practitioners if they nodded off, and made the practitioners write about their "feelings." Wang Haiying wrote about the wonders of Falun Gong and how the perpetrators abused Falun Gong practitioners. They tore up her article, threw it in her face and made her do heavy manual labor, such as digging ditches and filling potholes. She had to start working before dawn and was monitored around the clock. The guards cursed her and savagely beat her if they weren't happy with any slight thing. She had to work until it was dark outside, by which time personnel would drive the practitioners back to the labor camp in a vehicle. They did not allow the practitioners to sleep. They called the practitioners upstairs and forced them to stand and listen to Falun Gong-slandering speeches. Collaborators attacked her. They tortured Ms. Wang with sleep deprivation off and on for nearly six months. They made the practitioners either work or stand. The practitioners also suffered other physical abuses in addition to having to live with scabies.

On August 12, the captors told Wang Haiying to pack up and go home. Before Wang Haiying got in the car the group head asked her, "Will you still practice?" Wang Haiying said, "Yes!"

Less than fifteen days after she returned home, two police officers broke into her home one morning, forcibly put her in a car and took her to the Shenglilu Administration Office. Her three-year-old daughter chased behind the car crying. They attempted to coerce her to write a "reform statement" and she firmly refused. The officials sent her to the Shalingzi Piandi Brainwashing Class. She had not yet recovered from the scabies developed at Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp, and it worsened drastically at the brainwashing class. An infection caused excess pus and blood and she could not get out of bed. The captors were afraid of catching scabies from her, so they released her. After she went home, an old woman from the Street Party Committee staked out her home daily to monitor her. She was compelled to move overnight. Personnel from the Shenglilu Police Department, the Street Party Committee and Street Party Office went to the home of her parents and mother-in-law daily to harass them. They threatened her parents and her husband that they would arrest Wang Haiying again on November 20.

Wang Haiying left home with her three-year-old daughter. They now go from place to place to avoid illegal arrest.

1. [Liaoning Province] Practitioners Including Ms. Gao Sufen Illegally Detained and Searched

Recently, the National Security and Public Security departments in Liaoning Province and Huludao City utilized network monitoring equipment to help illegally arrest Falun Gong practitioners in Huludao City, Jianchang, Suizhong and other areas. Falun Gong practitioners' homes were also searched.

On November 16, 2005, the homes of Ms. Gao Sufen and Ms. Cao Yu'e from Bajiazi Town, Jianchang County were raided. On November 17, Ms. Han Xiujuan was arrested and sent to a detention center in Jianchang County. Her house was broken into and searched.

On November 17, Ms. Liu Wanli from Qiuzigou Township and Mr. He Zhanhai from Yejia Township were sent to the Suizhong County Detention Center. Their houses were also raided. The house of Mr. Chen Tieshan from Fanjia Township was also raided.

2. [Ziyang City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Yang Linju Illegally Taken from Home by Authorities

On November 15, 2005, 610 Office personnel, public security authorities, Chengguan police and residential committee security staff from Yanjiang District raided Ms. Yang Linju's house. Her home is located on Meibei Road in Ziyang City. Meanwhile, authorities arrested Ms. Yang and carried her down from the third floor to the police car. She was then sent to a detention center

3. [Qinghai Province] Mr. Li Xiuping Arrested by the Xining City Public Security Department

On the afternoon of November 12, 2005, Mr. Li Xiuping, about 50 years-old, was reported when he went to the Party School of Qinghai Province to distribute truth-clarifying materials, and was then arrested by the local police.

4. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Ms. Bi Xiulan Illegally Arrested

Ms. Bi Xiulan, 72, lives in Changli County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province. On November 18, 2005, she was arrested while posting truth-clarification leaflets. Her home was searched and her property was confiscated.

5. [Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Province] Mr. Wang Wei Detained Illegally

On November 15, 2005, Mr. Wang Wei from Baotou City was detained by the National Security Team when he accompanied Ms. Guo Meijie's mother to the Daqi Public Security Department and asked them to release Ms. Guo Meijie, who had been detained for three months.

It was learned that Ms. Guo Meijie held a hunger strike again for more than 20 days, and her health is in a worrisome condition. The police refuse her family's requests to visit her.

Personnel from the Hengtai County 610 Office in Shandong Province Arrest 60-year-old Falun Gong Practitioner and Send Him to a Brainwashing Session

In early November 2005, the heads of Hengtai County's 610 Office in Shandong Province held a brainwashing session to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They ordered Xing Yantao and other police officers from Qianbi Village, Suo Town, to arrest practitioner Mr. Lu Yongzhi, in his 60s, to fulfill the attendance quota at the Zibo City Brainwashing Session.
