Practitioner Ms. Pei Shuhua was illegally arrested when she clarified the truth about Falun Gong on November 4, 2005. To protest the persecution she immediately went on hunger strike, which has now lasted for over two weeks. Instead of releasing her, the authorities transferred her to the central hospital of Jilin Province Prison Administration Bureau and continued their persecution. Visitations by her family members have not been permitted. We still do not know if she is alive or dead or what her current condition is.
Ms. Pei Shuhua, 54 years old, was a nurse at the Shuangyang District Hospital in Changchun City, Jilin Province. In 1998 she started to practice Falun Gong. Her body and mind changed a great deal, especially her behavior. She became a good person in every situation, a change obvious to all at her workplace. Because she benefited from Falun Gong physically and mentally, her belief in Falun Gong was firm and she was very diligent.
On July 20, 1999, the CCP began to suppress Falun Gong with fabricated evidence. To uphold Falun Gong, Ms. Pei clarified the truth to government agencies and people in various ways, and as a result suffered from severe persecution. At the end of 1999, Ms. Pei went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong and was illegally detained for one month. Later, she was illegally sentenced to one year of imprisonment in a forced labor camp. In October 2002, when her term was completed, she refused to be "transformed" and was again sent to the Xinglongshan brainwashing center in Changchun City. After the brainwashing failed, she was sent back to Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp and detained, although there were no legal proceedings. Ms. Pei did not cooperate with any requests from the evil and protested the persecution in various ways. In October 2003, she showed serious symptoms of severe illnesses. The labor camp was afraid being held responsible and released her.
Ms. Pei Shuhua was not only tortured physically and spiritually, but also financially. During her stay in the forced labor camp, her workplace violated relevant laws and terminated her wages. When she was released from the labor camp, she was penniless (she lived alone) and could not afford to buy rice or oil. She could not afford heat in winter, and her home was as cold as ice. She repeatedly asked to go to work but was refused. Later, her workplace gave her 300 yuan per month as a living allowance. This August, at her strong request, her workplace promised to let her go back to work.
Although Ms. Pei Shuhua suffered from severe persecution, she never changed her mind in upholding Falun Gong or about her compassion for people. To help more people know the truth about Falun Gong, besides clarifying truth to people face-to-face, she also distributed a great deal of truth clarification flyers and VCDs in her spare time. She traveled to many villages and cities. To save people, she was unafraid.
On August 31, 2005, she was reported and arrested when she was distributing materials in the Pinghu residential buildings in the Shuangyang District. She went on a hunger strike for five days and walked out of the forced labor camp later.
On November 4, 2005, less than two and half months later, she was again reported and arrested when she clarified the truth to elementary school students. The police plotted to send her to a forced labor camp, so she went on a hunger strike to protest the arrest and detention. It has been over 20 days. The police have been reckless with her life and safety and have refused to release her. They transferred her several times and finally sent her to the central hospital of Jilin Province Prison Administration Bureau to continue the persecution. Visits from her family members have been prohibited, and we don't know if she is alive or dead.
We urgently call on all governments and all righteous people to extend their help to appeal to the Chinese government to obey the laws it established and to reinstate religious freedom for Falun Gong practitioners, to help those determined Falun Gong practitioners in China who are persecuted because of their insistent belief, to help those people get out of the dens of evil as soon as possible, and to help Ms. Pei Shuhua get out of danger immediately.
Ms. Yao Hui is a Falun Gong practitioner from Wuhan City, Hubei Province. Since the persecution started, Ms. Yao has been arrested, detained, sent to a forced labor camp, and subjected to brainwashing. In 2004, Ms. Yao was illegally sentenced to a 7-year prison term. As of this date, she is being detained at the Wuhan Women's Prison.
Ms. Yao used to be an editor of the "People's Yangtze River" magazine, owned by the Yangtze River Committee, Ministry of Water Resources. She began to practice Falun Gong in November 1994. Details of Yao's suffering follow:
At noon on July 20, 1999, several police officers from the Yongqing Street police station, Jiangan Borough, Wuhan City, took Yao to the police station to interrogate her and released her at noon on July 21.
On July 21, 1999, police officers from the Yongqing police station, and managers Li Meiqing and Lu Yi from Yao's company searched Yao's office and restricted Yao's personal freedom.
In the evening of July 21, 1999, she was arrested on the way home from appealing to the Hubei provincial government, and taken to the Yongqing Street police station. The next day her home was ransacked. She was transferred to Huisheng Grand Hotel, where she was detained for about two weeks. She was released due to her father's guarantee. After going back to work, all of her leave was canceled and her office keys were confiscated. She was not allowed to talk on the phone, stay alone at her office, or ask for leave. Because she was deprived of her freedom, she decided to go to Beijing to appeal. She wrote a resignation letter, as she did not wish to cause problems for her work unit and co-workers.
Ms. Yao went to Beijing on September 3, 1999, but was escorted back and detained at the Jiangan Area Brainwashing Center together with thirteen female practitioners from Wuhan City, who had traveled to Beijing to appeal. Yao resisted the brainwashing firmly, insisted on doing the Falun Gong exercises, and studying the principle of Falun Gong. The 610 office assumed that she was a key contact person. On September 25, she was sent to a sanatorium at Chengqianzui, Hanyang Borough, where she and other practitioners were brainwashed by three people. This sanatorium is surrounded by water, close to the Wuhan City Second Detention Center and is under the control of the Wuhan City police bureau's first department. Two monitors were assigned to each practitioner. Some practitioners were not assigned a bed for four months. During winter, several practitioners were handcuffed to a long bench for several months. On January 17, 2000, since the brainwashing center was closed, Ms. Yao was released.

Jiangan Borough police arrested Yao on January 22, 2000 for attending an experience sharing conference in Xidu. She was detained for 15 days at the Women's Forced Labor Camp.
On March 1, 2000, during a city-wide arrest of practitioners, Yao was arrested and taken to a brainwashing session at the Jinlong Hotel on Gong-Long-Bin street, which was organized by the Jiangan Borough 610 office. Since she lived by the principles "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance," she resisted all brainwashing attempts. Therefore, she was sentenced to one year at Hewan Forced Labor Camp. On March 15, 2001, the date of her scheduled release, her term was extended for another three months, and on June 15, 2001 for six more months. On December 17, 2001, she was sent to the Jiangan Borough Brainwashing center for further torture.
On January 11, 2002, Yao was arrested at a fellow practitioner's home. This time, she was detained for one month, and then sent to the Jiangan Area Brainwashing Center. She was released for health reasons.
On June 13, 2002, the Jiangan court tried practitioners without due cause. Yao was arrested outside the court and detained at the 1st Women's Detention Center, Wuhan City for a month.
In the afternoon of October 30, 2002, Yao was arrested and taken to Yongqing Street police station. Police officer Ding Li and Yu Dongying ransacked Yao's home. The same day evening, police officers asked Yao's daughter, who was only 16 years old, to sign a list of items confiscated by police. It's illegal to ask a sixteen-year-old to sign such document. The second day, Yao was sent to the Wuhan City First Detention Center, where she was jailed for one month and then taken to Jiangan Area Brainwashing Center for further torture. During the brainwashing session, Yao was deprived of sleep for several days, and police officer Zhu Lin beat her brutally. Several days later, Yao escaped and became homeless.
In the evening of May 3, 2003, when Yao met up with her friends on a street, she was arrested and taken to the No.1 Qingdao street station by police officers. Several days later, she was sent to the Wuhan City 1st Detention Center. Due to health reasons, the detention center refused to take her. Therefore, she was sent to the Jiangan Area Brainwashing Center.
On May 14, 2003, Yao Hui was again sent to Wuhan City's 1st Detention Center. Yao displayed symptoms of bad health on-and-off. (Signatures by Qiang Hansheng, head of the city 610 office, Yang Shihong, head of Wuhan City police bureau, Li Yingjie, head of Jiangan Borough 610 office, and others are evidence of this detention.)
On October 3, 2003, the Jiangan Court tried Yao Hui. The defense counsel pled innocence on behalf of Yao Hui. The court canceled the charges for lack of evidence. Yao should have been released at the time. But 610 office head Li Yingjie pressured the court for a new trial. They prepared false evidence and a list of items they had confiscated during an illegal search at Yao's home on December 5,2003.

On January 9, 2004, the court opened a second trial, and the defense counsel dared not defend Yao. Chief judge Wu Shanrong sentenced Yao to 7 years in prison on false evidence. Yao's family hired an attorney to appeal, but the Wuhan City Intermediate Court refused to take the appeal after learning the case was about a Falun Gong practitioner.
Currently Yao is detained at the 4th prison zone in the Wuhan City Women's Prison.
People Involved in Persecuting Yao Hui
Fu Xinping, CCP (Chinese Communist Party) Secretary of the Office of Yangtze River Committee, Wuhan City. He is in charge of the persecution of Falun Gong since July 1999. He forced practitioners who have appealed to "resign from their job." Fu Xinping and the 610 office took employees who refused to renounce the practice to brainwashing sessions, and deducted those employees' salary by the cost of room and board. Last year, Fu drove a company car to visit his hometown and was injured in a car accident on the trip. He had to pay a large amount for repair of the car.
Ji Xiangru, head of the Office of Yangtze River Committee leads the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners with Fu Xinping. Last year, Ji got ill with diabetes. The healthcare rules changed at that time and he was saddled with the large cost for his medical treatment.
Bi Suyi, department head of the Office of Yangtze River Committee, is a member of the focus group that is persecuting Falun Gong, and has actively taken part in meetings where they teach about persecuting practitioners.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Geng Huaipu was forced to leave his home to avoid further persecution. On October 21, 2005, he was illegally arrested and sent to Liudaowan Detention Center in Urumqi. During the detention, Geng Huaipu was tortured with a method called "bathing" (having large buckets of freezing cold water poured on him in chilly weather). Criminal inmates in the detention center beat and kicked Mr. Geng, causing numerous injuries.
Because Geng Huaipu resisted the abuse, policeman Shen Wei, in a rage, ordered the inmates to rip off Mr. Geng's clothes and told them to pour freezing cold water, which had been left outdoors overnight, over him. (Urumqi is located in a frigid zone. Winter heating started on October 15.) This torture is referred to as "bathing." They took Mr. Geng to Cell 2-2 after they finished pouring a huge bucketful of water over him.
Mr. Geng continuously clarified the truth to the perpetrators. Policeman Shen Wei ordered criminals Mai Mai Ti, Da Wu Ti and six others to beat Geng Huaipu, which caused injury to many parts of his body. The 610 Office took Mr. Geng back to the local detention center. However, Geng Huaipu was able to leave detention ten days later.

According to the police, Li Junqu instructed Hengshui City 610 Office personnel and police to persecute Falun Gong practitioners in Hengshui City during the October 1 National Day. It was said they would use the photos taken during the "616 incident" when Falun Gong practitioners helped other practitioners' family members to ask for the release of arrested practitioners. Their goal was to arrest 40 practitioners.
Li Junqu, 50, had served as the mayor of Hengshui City since February 1998. In January 2003 he became secretary of the City CCP Committee.
During Li Junqu's service as mayor and secretary, he has participated in and directed the persecution of Falun Gong, causing Falun Gong practitioners of Hengshui City severe harm. Many practitioners were detained, sentenced, or sent to forced labor camps. Some of them lost their lives. The public was deceived by the evil. Countless people's minds were poisoned. The following list includes local practitioners who have died due to persecution:
Ms. An Xiukun (age 49)
Ms. Xiao Xingai (age 39)
Mr. Yang Yun (age 43)
Mr. Liu Qiusheng (age 40, Fucheng County)
Ms. Wang Sulan (age 39)
Mr. Liu Lianyi (age 54, Jing County)
Ms. Wang Jingfang (age 51)
Ms. Liu Fuse (age 67, Shenzhou)

During the morning of June 16, 2005, Falun Gong practitioners in Hengshui City helped Sun Liangsheng and Kang Yanxiang's family rescue them by going to the Hengshui City "610 Office." They demanded the "610 Office" to release the two arrested practitioners unconditionally.
Practitioner Sun Liangsheng (age 40) was a respected teacher at the Hengshui City No. 2 High School. The 39-year-old Kang Yanxiang worked at the Hengshui City Science Committee. The two practitioners have been persecuted many times. During the 2004 New Year, Hengshui City "610 office" perpetrators ordered the Taocheng District Police Department to arrest Sun Liangsheng and Kang Yanxiang. After being illegally detained for one and half years, the Taocheng District Court collected false evidence and unlawfully sentenced them to four years in prison.
Both Sun Liangsheng and Kang Yanxiang's families hadn't heard anything from them for a very long time. Accompanied by other practitioners, the families went to Hengshui City "610 Office," asking for information about the arrested practitioners. They also demanded their family members be unconditionally released. It was said that Li Junqu was furious when he heard this. He ordered practitioners who participated in this event to be sent to a labor camp. He personally arranged and planned the persecution of the practitioners.
Under Li Junqu's order, Hengshui City "610 office" set up a so-called "616" Special Case team to deal with this incident. Li Junqu is the head of this "616" Special Case Team. They used the photos of practitioners the police had in their possession to arrest Wen Shuqiao (Sun Liangsheng's wife), Kang Yanshuo (Kang Yanxiang's elder brother), and seven other Falun Gong practitioners. One practitioner was over 60 years old.
Eight of the nine practitioners who were involved in the June 16 incident were unlawfully sent to a labor camp. The other practitioner, Xia Shige, has been "proposed for arrest." The eight practitioners were delivered to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp, but the camp refused to accept all of them, for health reasons. The police were worried about Li Junqu not being satisfied with this result. They tried different ways to get the labor camp to accept Kang Yanshuo (Kang Yanxiang's elder brother) and Xia Shengguo. The Kang brothers were illegally sentenced and detained in the labor camp. Kang Yanxiang's wife decided to leave to avoid arrest. Their over-80-year-old mother now stays at home alone. Sun Liangsheng's wife was also unlawfully detained. Their high-school daughter was placed under great mental strain. The perpetrators who were involved in this arrest said that Li Junqu directed them to carry this out.
Recently, according to the police, Li Junqu once again ordered them to investigate the "616" incident participants. He wanted to arrest 40 Falun Gong practitioners during the October 1 National Day holidays.
Li Junqu, 86-318-2069688 (Office), 86-318-2066789 (Home)
My name is Yang Zhilan. I am a woman of 58 years and live at 3 Lianhu Rd. Block 2, Apt. 501, Hengyang City. I am a retired official from the Youth Club at Hengyang City.
I started practicing Falun Gong in 1995. Between 2000 and 2005, I was arrested four times and illegally held in detention centers and the city's No.2 holding cell. I suffered all kinds of torture during police custody.
1. My First Arrest and Illegal Detention (February-March, 2000)
I went to Beijing, petitioning the central government not to senselessly suppress Falun Gong. A person whose last name was Fan from Qingshan Street brought me back from Zhengzhou City, and sent me to a detention center, where I was illegally kept for over 20 days. I had to pay for the whole trip for both of us, costing over 3000 yuan. My work unit bailed me out with 3000 yuan, but got no receipt. When I went to work, my supervisor told me that according to instructions from above, I was to get only 300 yuan as three months' salary; and with the deductions of pubic fund and pension, I could actually receive a little over 70 yuan per month--a total financial loss of more than 10,000 yuan.
2. My Second Arrest and Illegal Detention
The day before the Chinese New Year of 2001, four or five policemen including Fan from Qingshan Street Police Station picked me up at my work and illegally held me in custody for 113 days without going through any proper procedures.
Practicing Falun Gong did not make me a criminal, and there was no evidence proving I had committed any crimes. Yet, the police extended my detention period willfully and did not release me until I was kept there for 113 days. It caused me a financial loss of more than 6000 yuan, which include 2200 yuan daily expenses (20 yuan/day), 2000 yuan release fee--extortion from the police, and 2000 yuan being a four-month salary loss.
3. My Third Arrest and Illegal Detention
The police at the Plaza Precinct of Hengyang City arrested me on a tip while I was distributing truth-clarification materials, and kept me in custody for 15 days. At the precinct, a young officer beat me savagely, grabbing me by the hair and repeatedly throwing me against the wall. He kicked me ferociously, and I was not allowed even to sit for the whole night. The pain in my head lasted for a year.
Fifteen days after I was in detention, my husband got me out, spending over 4000 yuan as "asking-for-favor fees".
4. My Fourth Arrest and Detention
On December 9, 2004, Li Shaozheng, Zhou, instructor Qiu and a couple of others from the police branch at Shigu District picked me up at my work and took me home, and illegally searched my house.
Illegal Search of My House
They took my Falun Gong books. These books, with publishing numbers and copyright registration, are not illegal publications. I bought them from the Xinhua Book Store, and they are my personal property and should be returned to me.
They took two radios and tapes. They are also my personal property and should be returned to me as well.
They took my salary statements and bank books.
They did not give me a list of what they had taken.
They extorted from me 2000 yuan and did not give me a receipt.
The police branch at Shigu District blatantly violated citizens' residence and property rights.
B. My Detention at the Police Branch of Shigu District
During interrogation, an officer suddenly entered the room, striking my face violently. I moved backward a few steps. The officer barked, "You don't want to tell us, eh? But we have ways to make you talk." Later, they lied, saying they'd never used violence.
C. Torture I Suffered while Illegally Kept at the No.2 Detention Center of Hengyang City
(a) Mental assault. The guard asked a dozen or so inmates to stand around me, shouting obscene words toward me, cursing Falun Gong and Master.
(b) Forced administration of medicine. Five or six individuals pinned me down, holding tightly my hands, head, and feet. They pinched my mouth and grasped my vital parts. There were bruises all over my face and body, with a few areas bleeding and my mouth swollen.
(c) Two forced feedings of salt water. Deputy director Lei, section chief Zhou, head guard and female officer Liu, two guards and two police officers muscled me down on my back and force-fed me. I felt a constant burning sensation in my mouth and chest for half a month after that. My heart has not recovered from that feeling since.
(d) Forced feeding. A doctor kept my mouth open with a metal tool, while I was forced to lie on my back, by six or seven individuals. When the feeding tube was inserted, streams of blood came out and my whole body lost feeling. I seemed to have heard the doctor saying that it was dangerous to force-feed with salt water. I still feel the pain in all my teeth.
(e) Forced injection. Both my hands were swollen from injections by police.
On October 1, 2004, the No.26 Division of the Chengguan Branch Office in Lanzhou City Police Department, Gansu Province (Chengguan No.26 Division, in short) again dispatched a large team to arrest Ms. Wang Caixia at her parents' home. The siege lasted for two days and one night. Despite all their intimidation, with her parent's strong resistance, they did not succeed. On August 3, 2005, Deng Wei led a police team to Ms. Wang's home again to harass and threaten her.
Ms. Wang Caixia started to practice Falun Gong in January 1996. Shortly afterwards, her illnesses like tracheitis, etc. disappeared. She also found a satisfactory job. In 1998, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
In order to seek justice for the persecution of Falun Gong and to ask for a return of innocence for Master Li Hongzhi, Ms. Wang went to Beijing to appeal in October 2000. She was beaten by plainclothes policemen at Tiananmen Square however and later illegally detained for two weeks at the Taoshuping Detention Center in Lanzhou City. Her husband often beat her because he was afraid that he would be persecuted also. Once he was so violent that he broke her nose and she lost a lot of blood. Their young daughter was afraid to even look at her mother's face.
In the past several years, Ms. Wang has been unable to raise her child due to the persecution. Her young daughter has grown up amidst suffering and intimidation. Ms. Wang's elderly parents live in terror, worrying about the safety of their daughter while taking on the responsibility of raising their granddaughter.
In December 2000, Ms. Wang took her child with her when she went to Beijing to appeal. On Tiananmen Square, police punched and kicked Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Wang's young daughter didn't cry or make a sound. Instead, she had a solemn expression on her face. Facing the pure righteous look in her eyes, the police lowered their clenched fists.
In April 2001, Ms. Wang was arrested by the Chengguan Branch Office and detained at the No. 14 Team of the Lanzhou No.1 Detention Center, where she was subjected to inhumane torture. During her hunger strike to protest the illegal detention, she was beaten by prisoners under the orders of team leader Tian (who was later promoted to be the deputy director of the Lanzhou No.2 Detention Center), police officer Zhang Lingling and some others. They held her on the ground, pinched her cheeks, and pried her teeth open with chopsticks or an iron spoon before violently force-feeding her. They continued to hit her until her face was swollen and she nearly chocked to death. The prison doctor even inserted a tube into her stomach and filled it with highly concentrated salt water, which caused her to vomit and suffer greatly.
Ms. Wang nearly died several times. During the nearly four months of incarceration and torment in the damp and filthy detention center, Ms. Wang caught scabies. However, the Chengguan No. 26 Division policeman Wei Dong didn't release her until 2000 yuan was extorted from her father. Ms. Wang's mother told her that her child often wept quietly under the bedcovers while her mother was in detention. After she got home, her child contracted scabies as well and was too itchy to fall asleep at night. The child had no appetite at all.
In August 2001, Ms. Wang's husband requested a divorce and the court gave him custody of their three-year-old daughter and their house because his wife was a Falun Gong practitioner. In spite of all this, the police continued going to Ms. Wang's mother's home every 2-3 days to make trouble. In order to arrest Ms. Wang, who was wandering on the street, the lawless police went to the kindergarten her daughter attended and demanded that the teacher lie to Ms. Wang saying that her daughter was sick, but the teacher refused to do this.
In September 2002, led by the team leader Chen from the Chengguan No. 26 Division, a group of police followed Ms. Wang's father from his granddaughter's kindergarten all the way to his home. They forced Ms. Wang's parents to tell them about her whereabouts. With a room filled with police, Ms. Wang's young daughter felt hungry and tired, and eventually cried herself to sleep.
On October 1, 2004, the Chengguan No. 26 Division dispatched a large group of police again to arrest Ms. Wang Caixia. They besieged her in her parents' home for two days and one night and intimidated them with all sorts of methods. But because of the firm resistance from her parents, their attempt ended in vain.
On August 3, 2005, led by Deng Wei, lawless police from the Chengguan No. 26 Division went to harass and threaten Ms. Wang's parents again. At the end of August, when her husband went to register his daughter, the principal notified him that the city Police Department was trying to locate Ms. Wang. If she would come to the school to bring or pick up the child, he should report it right away. The police waiting at the school also threatened her husband with detention if he didn't cooperate with them.
In the past several years, the Chengguan No. 26 Division has spent a large amount of resources on an unemployed female worker only because she practices "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance". Please show your concern about this brutal persecution of tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners. Together we can stop this atrocity.
After Jiang's villainous political organization began the persecution of Falun Gong, the Handan City Forced Labor Camp was awarded the title of "Executive Civilized Work Unit." Guo Zhiqiang, head of the Handan City Judicial Bureau, said at the opening ceremony of a new building at the labor camp, "A 'reformation team' headed by Gao Fei has emerged at the Handan City Labor Camp. We have completed the assignment given to us by our superiors, to 'reform' Falun Gong practitioners. These superiors have favorably acknowledged our work. We are the only labor camp in Hebei Province to receive the title 'National Executive Civilized Work Unit.'"
Below is a summary of the tactics by which they "reform" Falun Gong practitioners, which consist primarily of deception and violence. A group of guards led by Gao Fei resort to the most ruthless and shameless methods in an attempt to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their belief in Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.
First method: Lies
In order to fulfill the 610 Office-assigned reformation of Falun Gong practitioners, a Special Group was established at the labor camp, a place where "special education methods" are put to use. Gao Fei had exclaimed for a long time, "The military is used for killing, and the guards' job is to beat people." To meet these requirements set by Jiang's villainous political organization, the guards came up with a set of lies. They isolate the practitioners upon arrival at the labor camp and then start lying to them, holding Falun Gong books in their hands. Most practitioners quickly see through their pretense, and then the guards reveal their true intentions. Zhang Xiuping, head of the labor camp; Wei Yongsheng, the deputy head; and Cheng Yin, the political head, encouraged their subordinates to use brutal tactics to coerce the practitioners so as to meet the quota of 100 percent reformation rate.
Second method: Violence, malice and ruthlessness
The guards at the Special Group told the practitioners, "We beat and torture you for your own good. Your Teacher asked us to give you a 'stick wake-up' because only by using a 'big hammer' will you improve your enlightenment quality." In 2004, guard Wang Zhiming kicked practitioner Mr. Chang Junkai so hard that he hit a tree in the yard, which resulted in a large cut about two inches in length above one of his eyebrows. Blood covered his face. In August 2004, when practitioner Mr. Zhao Shenxing refused to answer Wang Zhiming, he was beaten until his body was covered with deep, gaping wounds and he had turned black and blue. The next day, guard Gao Fei interrogated practitioner Mr. Zhao Shenxing, who refused to answer his questions. Gao Fei beat Mr. Zhao with electric batons and rubber clubs, and ordered inmates to beat and kick him. Mr. Zhao's face was black and blue, and he couldn't open his eyes due to the pain. About one week later he suffered a nervous breakdown and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He was released on a medical parole.
On May 9, 2005, practitioner Mr. Bao Jige declared that he firmly believed that Falun Dafa is good. Guards led by Yao Jianming and Wang Zhiming handcuffed Mr. Bao to the upper bunk of a double bed so that his feet barely touched the ground. Then Li Haiming, Xing Yansheng and others shocked his neck, face, armpits and other parts of the body with electric batons and also hit him with rubber clubs. As a result of the beating, Mr. Bao Jige could not use his right hand for more than six months. In early July 2004, when practitioner Mr. Huang Yunzhang spoke with Mr. Bao Jige, guard Xing Yansheng slapped Mr. Huang's face and blamed him for Mr. Bao's firm belief in Falun Gong.
Practitioner Mr. Wang Zhiwu was sent to the Special Group, where the guards tried to deceive him but failed. They resorted to violence, cuffed his hands to the upper bunk, and forced him to stand straight for several days without sleep. The guards didn't put him down until his feet had swelled and he had vomited a fair amount of blood. They then proceeded to shock him with electric batons. They taped paper slips filled with Falun Gong-slandering words all over Mr. Wang's body. Guard Xing Yansheng even wrote slanderous graffiti on picture(s) of Falun Gong's founder. He encouraged an inmate to beat Mr. Wang. The inmate knocked out three of Mr. Wang Zhiwu's teeth. He made Mr. Wang stand on his head and smoke a cigarette with his nose. He drew on Mr. Wang's face with ink and put a plastic bowl over his head. He forced him carry a stick under his armpits, wear torn clothing, and parade around the courtyard several times.
On July 15, 2005, they detained Mr. Wang Zhiwu in solitary confinement for five days. A dozen guards and collaborators verbally attacked Mr. Wang with their crooked ideas about Falun Gong. They didn't allow him to sleep until he had written a guarantee statement in a semi-conscious state to renounce Falun Gong.
On September 6, Mr. Wang Zhiwu did not fold his quilt to the satisfaction of the guards. Guard Liu Chaobo struck and kicked him to the ground. Liu Chaobo pulled him up and started beating him again until he vomited blood. This is one of the so-called "special education methods" at the Handan City Forced Labor Camp.
On September 12, Mr. Wang Zhiwu refused to cooperate with the guards' unreasonable demands. Guards Yao Jianming, Xing Yansheng and Zhang Wenshan frenziedly beat and kicked him. They also shocked him with electric batons and hit him with rubber clubs until he rolled on the floor in pain. After the beating, they forced him to stand inside a circle drawn on the floor and didn't let him eat.
On September 16, on his way back from lunch, guard Xing Yansheng said to practitioner Mr. Wang Zhiwu, "I dare to go to hell. Do you dare to go to hell?" Mr. Wang answered, "You can go to hell; I won't." Xing Yansheng grew furious and savagely beat Mr. Wang.
In the afternoon of October 10, guard Wang Zhiming said to practitioner Mr. Wang Zhiwu, "The Communist Party pays your salary; yet you are not grateful and not obedient." Mr. Wang Zhiwu responded, "Can you represent the Communist Party?" Wang Zhiming flew into a rage and struck Mr. Wang to the ground. He yanked him off the floor and continued to beat him until his face was swollen. Wang Zhiming is used to beating people at will.
Practitioner Mr. Zhao Zhiguan from Ci County firmly believes that Falun Dafa is good. Wang Zhiming punched Mr. Zhao in the face. His face was black and blue for more than two months. The hand Wang had used to hit Mr. Zhao hurt for many days.
Mr. Dou Pingjun is a practitioner from Shahe City. He once donated 15,000 yuan to a flood relief fund. He was illegally sentenced to forced labor but at the Handan Forced Labor Camp he persisted in his belief. Guards Liu Chaobo and Xing Yansheng shocked him with electric batons and punched his face while threatening him, "If you don't transform, we'll beat you to death and bury you here."
On August 16, the labor camp authorities forced practitioners to complete a "test" with Falun Gong-slandering answers. Practitioner Mr. Cheng Wendong from Qiu County refused to attack Falun Gong. Guard Gao Jinli found out and beat more than 40 practitioners in the courtyard. After the practitioners fell to the ground, he yanked them up and screamed, "Kneel before me." He continued to beat the practitioners until he was exhausted. On August 31, Mr. Cheng Wendong refused to watch Falun Gong-slandering TV programs. He said he was dizzy. Guard Wang Zhiming slapped his face saying, "You have to watch it, even if it kills you." Afterwards he called Mr. Cheng to the office. Five inmates pinned him to the floor and Wang Zhiming proceeded to shock him with electric batons and hit him with rubber clubs. Mr. Cheng's chest and back were black and blue.
On August 15, guard Xing Yansheng called practitioner Mr. Gu Daping into the office and asked, "Did you write the repentance statement from your heart or not?" Mr. Gu answered, "I would never have written it had I not been coerced." Xing Yansheng shocked Mr. Gu with electric batons and made him admit that he truly meant to renounce his belief.
On September 23, guard Zhang Wenshan ordered practitioner Mr. Li Guanqi to copy "homework." Mr. Li said, "I'm dizzy, I can't do it." Zhang Wenshan ordered a few inmates to first slap Mr. Li's face and then they pinned him to the floor. Wang Zhiming and Li Haiming beat and kicked him, which left Mr. Li Guanqi disoriented for a few days and his arms hurt so badly he couldn't raise them for one month.
On October 6, guard Yao Jianming saw practitioners Mr. Zhang Qingchao and Mr. Huang Yunzhang talking with each other. Yao Jianming demanded, "What are you talking about?" Mr. Huang had announced that the "guarantee statement" he previously had written was void. Yao Jianming slapped his face repeatedly. He kicked him and forced the two practitioners to stand against the wall. Mr. Zhang was forced to stand for more than six hours, and Mr. Huang was forced to stand for two days and one night. On October 8, guard Li Haiming called Mr. Huang into the office and beat and kicked him until his nose bled. Li Haiming's hands were covered with Mr. Huang's blood, yet he continued to beat him, saying, "How come you guys are allowed to commit crimes while we guards are not allowed to make mistakes?"
Yao Jianming said to the practitioners at a labor camp meeting, "Although we beat you a couple of times, it's for your own good and for the country's good. You are not clear-headed, but we have ways to bring you back to reality. The labor camp is a violent, totalitarian institution, and we have prepared the electric batons and rubber clubs to be used on you."
Guard Gao Fei said at a Falun Gong-slandering class in 2004, "Do you know what the military is for? The military was established to kill people, and guards are here to beat people. It's not OK if you don't reform. Put us on trial if you dare!"
On September 12, six practitioners were transferred to the forced labor camp from Tangshan City and on October 10, six practitioners from Gaoyang City were "reformed."
On October 10, practitioner Mr. Li Liandong from Gaoyang City, who worked at the Security Department of Tsinghua University, was sent to the forced labor camp. The guards told Mr. Li, "See, there aren't many people practicing Falun Gong now." Mr. Li Liandong answered, "To my knowledge, the same number of people are practicing Falun Gong as did before the persecution started. It's only that the police and guards in other cities have stopped persecuting Falun Gong. You are the only place that is still persecuting Falun Gong, which is why determined practitioners are all sent here." Li Haiming slapped Mr. Li Liandong's face twice. Mr. Li Liandong said, "It's illegal to beat people!" Li Haiming ordered inmates to bring electric batons and rubber clubs, and guard Wang Zhiming and the inmates savagely tortured Mr. Li Liandong until he lost consciousness. Mr. Li could not get up until a few hours later.
On October 26, guard Gao Jinli drank alcohol at lunch and threw a tantrum at practitioner Mr. Wang Zhong, a man in his 50s. He smacked Mr. Wang's face and head with his hard boots until Mr. Wang collapsed to the floor.
There are countless instances of human rights violations and of administrators violating human rights laws at the Handan City Forced Labor Camp. Yet the Hebei Province Labor Reeducation Bureau considered this labor camp to be an "advanced work unit" for reforming Falun Gong practitioners, and Jiang's villainous political organization allocated funding for the construction of a new building at the labor camp. Jiang Zemin has trained villains and used the taxpayers' money to build a torture base. Jiang's organization also posted a reward of 800 yuan for each Falun Gong practitioner that is "reformed," which encouraged the guards to torture the practitioners and attack Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance using all sorts of tactics.
Since July 20, 1999, the following Huai'an City officials have been closely cooperating with Jiang Zemin's regime to persecute Falun Gong practitioners: Ding Jiemin, secretary of the city committee; Fan Jinlong, deputy secretary of the city committee and mayor; Wang Xiangming, member of the standing committee and vice mayor; Li Rongrong, vice mayor; Zhou Yunfei, vice mayor; Lu Changsu, vice mayor; Zhu Yimin, vice mayor; Liu Youchao, vice mayor; Hong Dawei, party secretary and director general of the employment bureau; and Wu Zhaofang, secretary of the Education and Work Committee and director general of the city education bureau. They have committed many crimes against Falun Gong.
In 2000, 610 Office police arrested practitioner Mr. Ma Xuehua, head of the city committee's Party School. The police punched and kicked him and handcuffed his hands behind his back. They also shackled his feet. They falsified a case against Mr. Ma and tortured him for seven days and nights. Mr. Ma was illegally sentenced to seven years of imprisonment.
In 2000, practitioner Zhang Shuying was illegally arrested by police in the 610 Office for producing materials for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong. Police took turns interrogating Zhang for five days and nights. The practitioner was also not allowed to sleep and was burned with a light bulb. The 610 police sentenced Zhang to three years in a forced labor camp. Practitioner Du Mingliang was also arrested for producing Falun Gong materials. While imprisoned in the police station, Du persisted in meditation, so the police shackled the practitioner's feet for over two weeks. They finally sentenced Du to two and a half years imprisonment.
In July 2001, police officer Cai Zibing arrested Wang Falun Gongng, former provost of the Beijing Road Middle School. Cai insulted Wang with filthy words and handcuffed Wang's hands behind the back for two days and nights.
Police officer Yang Shiyu, former head of the Changxi Police Station, is well known for consorting with prostitutes. In 2000, 2001, and 2002, Yang Shiyu led several search parties to practitioner Ms. Zuo Kangwei's house. After confiscating her books, Yang hypocritically said to her husband, Wang Shixin, "We have confiscated all your books. Your health is poor. Let me give you a copy of Zhuan Falun. You can practice at home." Afterwards, with the excuse that Mr. Wang Shixin had a copy of Zhuan Falun at home, Yang Shiyu searched their home again. Mr. Wang and Ms. Kangwei have been illegally imprisoned many times and beaten nearly to death several times.
In 2002, the City Court dropped its case against Ms. Zuo Kangwei. Officer Yang Shiyu appealed this decision, claiming that Ms. Zuo would "act up" after being released. Yang pressured the court and Ms. Zuo's lawyer until Ms. Zuo Kangwei was illegally sentenced to three years of imprisonment.
While Yang Shiyu continued to persecute Falun Gong practitioners, his wife suffered from liver cancer. Once he persecuted a female practitioner whose family name is Wang. This practitioner suggested that he do what was good for him, "Your wife already suffers from liver cancer. You'd better accumulate some virtue." Yang Shiyu slapped her face. Soon after this incident, his wife died of liver cancer. One month later, Yang married his mistress. He colluded with people in the 610 Office, and, because he was "meritorious" in "converting" Falun Gong practitioners, he was rewarded with a free trip to Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Seeing the grand scene of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners spreading Falun Gong in those places, he seethed with hatred.
Since he began working for the 610 Office, policeman Wang Jianhuai has gone all out in his efforts to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. He has sought rewards, promotions, and money for his efforts. Almost all the practitioners he has arrested, male or female, young or old, have been subjected to his beatings. Even Ms. Yu, over 80 years old, did not escape his wrath. He brought Ms. Yu to the police station for interrogation and announced, "Eighty-year-old people will be imprisoned as well." When Ms. Yu refused to sign the guarantee statement, the other officials were told that they should not feel any remorse if she died. Ms. Yu said, "I used to suffer from liver ascites but recovered by practicing Falun Gong. I save more than 10,000 yuan for our country every year. How do you want me to change?"
Wang Jianhuai resorted to fabricating cases and deceit, threatening and cruelly torturing practitioners to obtain confessions. He colluded with Chang Shulin, head of the National Security Group in the Qinghe District, and Cai Zibing to take turns "chatting" with detained practitioners. As they put it, this was "to first wear down the practitioners over several days and nights." After the practitioners were exhausted from this harassment, the officials tortured them to obtain a confession. They beat practitioners with punches, kicks, and electric batons. They handcuffed practitioners' hands behind their backs or suspended them in the air by one handcuffed hand, put heavy shackles on their feet, forced them to squat in an awkward posture or to bend with straight legs at a 90 degree angle, stood on practitioners' legs and ground into their flesh with heavy boots, slapped practitioners in the face, force-fed them with hot chili water, padded practitioners' chest and back and then beat them, causing internal injuries that would not be outwardly apparent, and so on. Since May 2004, practitioners Liu Hongjun, Wang Shixin, Zhu Shixia, Ms. Lin, the Liu Zhengfu couple, Zheng Ping, Wu Xingxiang, Yang Yong, and others have been arrested, interrogated, and subjected to the above tortures. Wang Shixing was force-fed with hot chili water and suffered skin irritation. After failing to obtain confessions by interrogations with torture, they tried deceiving practitioners with promises. Moved by their human attachments, some practitioners gave in. Since February of this year, practitioners Wang Shixin, Zhu Shixia, Yang Yong, Ms. Lin, Zheng Ping, and Wu Xingxiang have been arrested. These six practitioners are still imprisoned and being persecuted in the detention center.
Since July 20, 1999, over 100 practitioners in Huaian City have been arrested, more than 40 have been sentenced and imprisoned, over 10 practitioners have been sentenced to labor camp, and almost 100 have been forcibly "reformed" through brainwashing. Police in the 610 Office are rewarded with over 1,000 yuan for each practitioner they can "reform." They also extort money with fines from practitioners who go to Beijing to appeal or who cannot be "reformed." They do not follow any legal procedures when issuing the fines, and no receipts are given.

Some facts about the persecution in the Jinchang Area:
Case 1
Brainwashing sessions were held by the firemen's team of the security bureau of Jinchuang Group in Gansu Province (the sessions were transferred to the company's centre for quitting smoking). From March 3, 2000 to November 16, 2000, they illegally detained eighteen practitioners. They were:
Ma Yuefen, Yang Xiaochuan, Li Bo, Liu Zheng, Wei Anyue, Zhang Yonglong, An Hongquan, Guo Hong, Wang Yue'e, Yang Xiufang, Liu Roulan, Liu Zhiping, Wei Xiulan, Wei Xiufen, Su Jianjun, Mao Wei, Xie Ketong, Ma Zhigang.
Amongst them, most of them were subsequently illegally sent for forced labor or sentenced to imprisonment. Ma Yuefen and Yang Xiaochuan were sentenced to 3 years of forced labor from March 2002 to March 2005. After their imprisonment term ended, they were fired without cause by the Jinchuan Group. Li Bo was later sent to forced labor in Shandong. Since 2001, he has been forced to go from place to place, homeless, to avoid the persecution.
Case 2
On Falun Gong Day in 2002, in Jinchang City, Falun Gong practitioners widely distributed truth-clarifying materials. The authorities arrested people in a frenzy. Around over 30 practitioners in Jinchang City were arrested. They were Ma Yuefen, Ma Zhigang, An Zhanfeng, Qin Dewu, Yang Xiaochuan, Wang Jinping, Zhang Yonglong, Cao Heping, Liu Guiju, Wang Yumei, Guo Hong, Bai Shufang, Sun Ailing, Chen Ligao, Zhao Peiwen, Yang Xiufang, An Hongquan.
On June 18, 2002, twelve practitioners were sentenced to forced labor (one of them was monitored out of the forced labor camp) and later sentenced to imprisonment. They included Guo Hong, Fan Yucheng, An Zhanfeng, Qin Dewu, Zhang Yonglong and others.
During the same period, there were 30-40 practitioners arrested in Yongchang County and Hexibao Town. They were detained in the centre to quit smoking and detention centre in Yongchang County. Those who were later sentenced to imprisonment include Yue Peifu, Zhang Yanyong, Qin Dewu, Chu Dayi, Li Changfeng, Hu Shangxue, Wang Zefang's sister, and others. They were given jail sentences ranging from 7 years to 12 years. There were fourteen practitioners sentenced to forced labor. They were Ru Xianglan, Kang Yuxia, Qu Yonghua, Xiao Yunian, Wang Zefang, Yan Boren, Chen Xuzhong, Mao Peifu, Wang Yufu, Shen Fulian, Kang Wanshou, Mr. Li, Mr. Ke, and others. Most of them were sentenced to 3 years of forced labor.
As for the couple Shen Fulian and Chu Dayi, one of them was sent to forced labor while the other was sentenced to jail. They have two children at home with no one to take care of them. A practitioner at that time reprimanded Peng Weiping (Deputy chief of Yongchang County police department) and Li Guoyu (Division chief of political and security division), "You sentenced both husband and wife to imprisonment, who is going to take care of the two children at home? What you are doing is inhumane! You will sooner or later get karmic retribution!" The two of them did not answer him. Later Shen Fulian was sent back home.
Case 3
On May 14, 2002, the Yongchang County Police Department and Judiciary Division at the county stadium held a so-called "mass arrest meeting". They made over 30 practitioners wear banners that slandered Falun Gong. Then they announced the so-called "judgment" in front of the audience in the stadium. The police forced the practitioners to parade in the streets so that the people could see them. Just after the end of the "parade", the police secretly sentenced fourteen practitioners to forced labor. Most of the family members of the practitioners were not informed. The practitioners refused to sign on the judgment letter of the forced labor. They were sent by van to the No.1 forced labor camp in Pingantai City, Gansu Province.
