On March 27, 2005, Mr. Li Yeming, a Falun Gong practitioner who worked at the Engineering Exploration Company of the Design Institute of Shengli Oilfield in Shangdong Province, was arrested and held in the Shengli Oilfield Detention Center. Mr. Li Yeming, emaciated and with a disfigured face, is now near death.

Both Mr. Li Yeming and his wife Qiu Hongmei were Shengli Oilfield employees. After practicing Falun Gong, they both benefited mentally and physically. They worked conscientiously and had a happy family.

On March 27, 2005, the police from Petroleum University took Mr. Li Yeming from his home and held him at the Shengli Oilfield Detention Center. In detention, Mr. Li Yeming persisted in his belief and refused to bow to the authorities' illegal demands. He went on a hunger strike to protest the violence against innocent Falun Gong practitioners and to defend their basic human rights.

Around April 13, Mr. Li Yeming was transferred to a brainwashing center. To avoid responsibility in the event of Mr. Li's possible death, the Security Section of Petroleum University and the Shengli Oilfield 610 Office conducted the brainwashing at the Oil-Gas Collection and Transportation Company of Shengli Oilfield. Currently, Mr. Li Yeming is being persecuted and is isolated from his family members.

Police officers from the Security Section of Petroleum University arrested Mr. Li Yeming's wife, Qiu Hongmei, on March 25 and illegally detained her in a brainwashing center held in the Materials Supply Section of Shengli Oilfield located on the first floor of the Materials Warehouse Hostel, which was guarded by the police. Her family members were forbidden to see her.

During the same period, practitioner Ms. Li Xuerong was arrested by the police officers from the Binhai Police Station, and also detained in the brainwashing center at the Materials Supply Section of Shengli Oilfield. Ms. Li Xuerong is observing a hunger strike against the illegal detention.

We urgently call on the people of conscience at the Shengli Oilfield to help Mr. Li Yeming and Ms. Li Xuerong and to use every possible means to free them of the persecution and allow them to resume their normal lives.

The following is the brutal persecution I suffered while in Shanghai First Detention Center during July 2000. While meditating in Tiananmen Square, I was arrested by police and taken to Beijing Xicheng District Detention Center. A few days later, I was transferred to the Shanghai government's liaison office in Beijing. Then, I was detained for one month at the Shanghai Police Department and jailed at the Shanghai First Detention Center.

I resisted the illegal persecution by not signing my name on the repentance statement. Additionally, I went on hunger strike to protest the persecution at Shanghai First Detention Center. The lead guard in charge of my floor tried to persuade me to eat. When I refused to cooperate, he incited prisoners to brutally torment me into complying with his wishes. The group of inmates who were led by the guard slapped my face and beat my chest with their fists. A few inmates surrounded me and kicked me.

They forced my head into the toilet; and, after three times of being held under, my will was broken and I gave up my hunger strike. Now, I really have experienced how brutal this persecution is and why this persecution has cast such a huge shadow of terror. It has taken months for me to gradually eliminate the terror I have experienced.

Because five other Falun Gong practitioners and I appealed to a higher court for justice over illegal sentences, we were brought to trial together. I was charged with distributing "reactionary" leaflets containing the words "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance" and I was sentenced to three years of imprisonment.

The court, the Procuratorate, and the fourth branch of the Heping District Police Department in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, collaborated to distort and exaggerate the facts in my trial. Those who are supposed to enforce the laws broke the laws. They counted up the pages of material bound into books and decided that any page with "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance" was an "illegal leaflet." They also included copies of out-of-date newspapers and computer pictures of citations praising and recognizing Falun Gong. All these materials added up to 300 "leaflets." Before the Heping District Court, the Procuratorate blatantly altered the prosecution's evidence against me to aggravate the "criminal evidence" against me.

When I appealed to the intermediate court and was brought to trial, I asked, "How can just these few words 'Truth, Compassion, Forbearance' on a page qualify it as a 'reactionary leaflet'?" The judge answered, "'Truth, Compassion, Forbearance' is evil by itself."

At those words, I was stupefied. When I actually understood what he had said a moment later, I was so sad that I wept. I said to the judge, "Throughout the ages, which dynasty or person has opposed 'truth, compassion, forbearance'? Do you think that 'falsehood, hatred, struggle' is righteous? Do you want us to act on 'falsehood, hatred and struggle'? That's absolutely impossible! "

He couldn't answer my question, so he hurriedly said, "You must be out of your mind. I won't talk with you any more." Thus he put an end to my appeal.

Is such a judge qualified to be a judge? Is such a court qualified to be a court?

Not one of us six practitioners accepted our unlawful judgments.

In addition, three months before this year's Spring Festival, three persons died one after the other in the Third Division of the Women's Prison of Liaoning Province. One of the three was a practitioner from Jinzhou County, Dalian City, Liaoning Province. She was tortured to death. Few people knew it. A kindhearted inmate secretly told me this before I was set free.

February 21, 2005 was the starting date for a new semester at the Children's Art School of the Hunan Province Department of Culture. Just one week later, the young students in the No. 4 Calligraphy and Painting class were surprised to find that their very popular teacher, Ms. Gong Xianghui, had disappeared. Their teacher, Ms. Gong, is a Falun Gong practitioner. The school administration fired her because she refused to sign the so-called "safety responsibility letter," which contained statements that defamed Falun Gong.

At the beginning of the new semester, each employee in the school was required to sign a "safety responsibility letter." It even stated in part that, "Neither you nor any of your relatives can attend any Falun Gong activity" and "If any employee disobeys any of the contents listed above, no one in the whole group will receive a merit award." Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Gong Xianghui firmly opposed the "responsibility letter," which defamed Falun Gong. She clearly expressed that she would never sign this kind of document.

On the afternoon of February 28, Ms. Gong was informed that the art school had made the decision to fire her. Deputy Director Chen Zheng and Lai Xinxing were present. When Ms. Gong asked the reason for her dismissal, they declared with one voice, "We are an education department. We cannot use someone like you, a Falun Gong practitioner."

According to available information, the Children's Art School of the Hunan Province Department of Culture not only unreasonably fired practitioner Ms. Gong Xianghui, but also rejected practitioner Qin Shulan, who had already accepted their offer to become a kindergarten teacher. The situation concerning practitioners Ms. Gong and Qin Shulan is more proof that the Jiang's regime illegally deprives practitioners of the right to life and the right to work.

1. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Zhu Shuai Tortured to the Brink of Death at the Heizuizi Women's Forced Labor Camp

Practitioner Ms. Zhu Shuai from Changchun City had graduated from Changchun University of Architectural Engineering. In September 2004, personnel from the Minkang Road Police Station arrested her while she was clarifying the truth of Falun Gong to people in a Children's Park. She was then sent to the Third Detention Center, Shuangyang City. One month later she was sentenced to one year of forced labor at Team 1, Group 6 in the Heizuizi Women's Forced Labor Camp. Team leaders Li Jiong and Ding Caihong shocked her with electric batons numerous times. Zhu Shuai has been staging a hunger strike for over 20 days. Currently, she is being force-fed twice a day and put on an IV. She is extremely weak and her life is in peril.

Practitioner Ms. Gao Congping, 36 years old, is from Jintang County. At around 9:00 a.m. on April 12, 2005 she was taken to a secret brainwashing class in Xinjin County. There is no name or sign at the brainwashing class entrance.

Gao Congping has been staging a hunger strike since she was sent to the brainwashing class. Her life is now in peril. Her family members demanded the brainwashing class officials release her, but a person who claimed to be an educator named Yin refused their request. There is another educator named Wang. Gao Congping's family members asked some local officials, but they just gave them the run-around and told them to ask Lin Hongshu. The family looked for Lin Hongshu for a few days but couldn't find him.

We have heard the brainwashing class officials are adopting a very devious manner. They don't beat or curse the practitioners; they provide practitioners with food and lodging and pretend to care about them. Two people monitor one practitioner and prohibit practitioners to do the Falun Gong exercises. New practitioners and practitioners who didn't learn the principles of Falun Gong well are easily fooled by their deception.

Ms. Liu Mingmei, 59 years old, is a resident from Shangjietou, Maoju Town, Ziyang County. She used to have many diseases before she started to cultivate. Her health greatly improved in 1999 after practicing Falun Gong. On April 6, 2005, police arrested her while she was on her way back from making some photocopies of Falun Gong materials. Police had harassed her, ransacked her place and had intimidated her before this.

On April 15, 2005, personnel from Lianhu District 610 Office arrested 69 years old practitioner Ms. Bai Xiurong from Xi'an City's West Suburb Instruments Factory and sent her to a brainwashing class located in the Chang'an County Workers' Sanitarium.

Luu Zhenjun (police number 2115032), head of the Management Section, the Shenxin Forced Labor Camp in the Yuhong District, and others, force-feed practitioners with salt water and hot pepper sauce, shock them with electric batons and handcuff and shackle practitioners. Policeman Yu Xiao said the Shenxin Forced Labor Camp was awarded the distinction of "the city civilized unit" and would not torture practitioners, yet he himself shocked practitioners over 30 times.

For the past 12 days, practitioner Mr. Zhu Yuxiang has been staging a hunger strike to protest the persecution. Police force-fed him with salt water and hot pepper sauce, and used all kinds of excruciating torture methods on him, including electric batons, handcuffs and shackles.

Practitioner Wang Feizhou is now held at the Shenxin Forced Labor Camp.

During the night of April 14, 2005, police arrested practitioners Chen Jianxiong and Fu Xiuyun from Shenzhen City. So far their whereabouts are unknown. Ms. Fu Xiuyun works for the Nanshan Branch, Shenzhen City's Bank of Agriculture. At around 8:00 p.m. on April 14, personnel from the Nanshan District Police Department went to her home, ransacked the place and arrested her. It's said she has been staging a hunger strike ever since.

It's not known when and where Chen Jianxiong was arrested. His work unit and family members have no idea about his whereabouts.

On November 27, 2004, practitioner Ms. Liu Maoqun from Yibin City was arrested when she was clarifying the truth at Nan'an Culture Square. Since then she has been held at the City Detention Center. On December 31, police issued the arrest papers. Liu has been a on a hunger strike. At the first trial she was carried into the court. On April 1, 2005, two policewomen took her into the court and she was sentenced to three years of imprisonment. As Liu did not acknowledge the sentence and refused to sign or appeal, she is still being held at the City Detention Center. Her health is extremely poor.

Practitioner Ms. Chen Xingyin from Yibin City was arrested in January 2005 for clarifying the truth. She is being held at the City Detention Center. She has been on a hunger strike since her arrest and was recently sentenced to four years of imprisonment.

In early March 2005, personnel from the Shenzhen City Jingtian Police Station arrested three practitioners including Ms. Wang Shuling who lives at the residential community of the city's Shizheng Company, Ms. Zhang Fuying, living at the residential community of the city's Huatai Company; Ms. Xiao Anjiao from the Shaodong District, Hunan Province, working at a factory in the Longguang District, Shenzhen City.

Personnel from the Jingtian Police Station, from the residential community office and the community security office broke into practitioners Wang Shuling and Zhang Fuying's homes and arrested them. Local practitioners inquired about the two practitioners at the Futian Detention Center, but had no results.

In early April, police arrested Ms. Xiao Anjiao when she was distributing truth-clarifying materials. In the middle of April, police in Shenzhen City already ordered police officers in the Shaodong District, Hunan Province to take Xiao back for detention.

Practitioner Mr. Liu Yumin, 68 years old, is a retired accountant of Dujiangyan City Yingxiu Electric Power Factory, living at residential area of the factory.

On March 20, 2005, police arrested Liu Yumin and ransacked his home because he rode a bicycle to Peng County to distribute truth-clarifying materials. Police confiscated many Falun Gong books. Afterwards, the police reported this incident to the Sichuan Province Police Department. It was said that the factory officials' salary would be lowered by one grade and the factory would be fined 30,000 yuan because of this incident.

Practitioner Ms. Wang Hong from Huludao City, Liaoning Province, began to practice Falun Gong in 1998. In mid-July 2003, police arrested her when she was shopping at a morning market. She was sentenced to three years imprisonment at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Her 11-year-old son and her husband were left home.

As Wang Hong refused to give in to police's demands and continued practicing Falun Gong, the police extended her detention term by six months at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.

On March 8, 2005, personnel from the Baixia District "610 Office" in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province arrested practitioner Wang Sanxiu and held the practitioner at a brainwashing class.

Practitioner Ms. Li Xin, in her 60s, brought some truth-clarifying materials in her luggage when traveling to Shenzhen City through Shenyang City, but police found the materials when she was about to board the train. Afterwards she was sent back to the Ziyou Street Police Station in Changchun City. During interrogation, she told the police about practitioner Ms. Qi. Thus, the police ransacked Qi's home and confiscated all her Falun Gong books. They intimidated her and her family to force them to tell where the Falun Gong materials came from. The threatened to send Qi to one year of forced labor if they did not cooperate.

We have heard that police in Pinglu County arrested practitioner Mr. Zhang Wenbin on the Yellow River Bridge in early April 2005. His whereabouts are unknown. A year ago, Zhang was held in the Taiyuan City Fangdian Detention Center.

14. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Liu Chunhua Arrested

Practitioner Ms. Liu Chunhua, 42 years old, lives near Chunliu. During the night of April 11, 2005, security personnel arrested and sent her to the Bianfang Police Station when she was distributing truth-clarifying materials at the Gaoxinyuan District residential community in Dalian City. She is being held at the Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian.

In the morning on April 18, 2005, personnel from the Xianning District "610 Office" and the Sanhaoqiao Police Station in Xianning District, led by Wang Puxiang who is in charge of the district, arrested practitioner Mei Xinhua from Xianning City. She refused to pay the CCP membership fee and refused to attend CCP activities. They sent Mei right away into a Hubei Province Brainwashing Class.

At 4:30 p.m. on April 14, 2005, personnel from the Pingdu City "610 Office" arrested practitioner Mr. Wang Chengqi from Datian Town, Pingdu City, Shandong Province. They confiscated all truth-clarifying materials and two banners reading, "Falun Dafa Great" which were displayed in his home.

Practitioner Ms. Mao Chunying from Pingdu City, Shandong Province, 56 years old, lives in the Jiqing Dorm. The other day she went to visit her daughter in Beiming. Around April 13 she was arrested while clarifying the truth.

Currently, Falun Gong practitioner Yao Jinyu from Fuxing Village, Tangyuan County, is incarcerated at the Xigemu Detention Center in Jiamusi City.

In January 2002 when practitioner Tang Dianwei from Fuxing Village went to Dong'an Village to distribute truth-clarifying materials, he was arrested by persons from the Shengli Township Police Station and then was locked up at the Mudanjiang City Prison.

My name is Fu Decai and I have been released from the labor camp. I had been detained for 33 months for practicing Falun Gong. On April 4, 2002, I was sent to the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp. I remember that it was a Sunday night; Jiang Zemin gave a secret order, requiring the forced labor camp to "reform" over 90% of Falun Gong practitioners. In order to achieve such a "goal," the guard instructed prisoners to heavily beat my head, neck and face with shoes. They poured cold water over my body, beat me with a baton, handcuffed my hands and beat me with a long bamboo board. They kept torturing me until I was bruised and lacerated. My teeth were even broken due to the brutal beating. Finally, I passed out. They nearly beat me to death, but I never compromised. Wang Tao is the guard who tortured me. It happened on April 12, 2002.

Practitioner Xu Jingxian lives at Level 2, Unit 2 of Building 4 of the storage company's dorm located at No.332 Yangjiang Road in the Kaifu District, Changsha City. It was reported on April 5, 2005 that police arrested her son, Shen Xiaoming, a non-practitioner who supported Falun Gong. He was on his way home. Lawless police used his key to open his door and arrested Ms. Xu Jingxian. Later they searched the house. Another two practitioners in the Nanmenkou District in Changsha City were arrested. It was reported that Li Zhonghua from the Yantianhu Community in the Tianxin District, Tang Peilian from the Lianyutang Community. One other unknown practitioner, 50 years old, was arrested by six plainclothes police when the practitioners were distributing truth-clarifying materials at 7:00 p.m. on April 12.

In July 2001, Falun Gong practitioner Zhuang Shijun was arrested by personnel from the Linzi District Police Department in Zibo City and was sentenced to three years of forced labor. Because Zhuang Shijun insisted on upholding Falun Gong and refused to be "reformed," the detention term was extended three months. During her detention at the labor camp Zhuang Shijun suffered all kinds of brutal tortures.

After being released, Zhuang Shijun was captured again on December 16, 2004 by persons from the Bianhe Police Station while clarifying the truth of Falun Gong. She refused to tell the policemen her name. This led to an additional detention of 28 days prior to January 28, 2005. During those 28 days, the lawless police often beat Zhuang Shijun.

When she was arrested, the lawless policemen confiscated her cell phone and cash. Following the arrest, the policemen did not inform her family who had tried many ways to determine her whereabouts. It was said that the "case" has recently been transferred to the Linzi District Procuratorate.

1. Five Practitioners from the Renhe Precinct in Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province, Are Arrested

At noon on April 19, 2005, Renhe Precinct police chased, beat, and arrested three villagers from the precinct, including Ms. Ran Longzhen, age 53; Ms. Gou Junzhen, age 54; and Mr. Jiang Guangfu, age 62, while they were clarifying the truth about Falun Gong in Huoshan, Dalongtan Township, Renhe Precinct. The police handcuffed Ms. Ran Longzhen and hung her in the air with her feet barely touching the ground by chaining the handcuffs to a high, barred window. The police kept her in this painful position for about 20 hours, not releasing her until she was in mortal danger. On April 20, the police tortured Ms. Ran using the same tactic until she was on the brink of death. When the police notified her family to pick her up, they extorted 200 yuan from them. Ms. Gou Junzhen and Mr. Jiang Guangfu are still in custody at the Wanyaoshu Detention Center.

On April 6, the Renhe Precinct police arrested another two practitioners from the precinct, Ms. Ran Qiongying and Ms. Wu Xiulan, for clarifying the truth to the local people.

2. Details of Persecution Against Practitioners Incarcerated in Beijing's Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp

The police guards in Beijing's Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp keep chanting the slogans of "educating, reforming and saving" Falun Gong practitioners during their illegal detention, but the truth is that they have been torturing them in many sadistic, inhuman ways and have been secretly ordering the disciplinary staff to abuse and torture them. Together they repeatedly tortured a practitioner, Mr. Guan Jianwu, until he mentally collapsed. Guard Wang Zhenbao repeatedly deprived Mr. Guan of sleep. In addition, Mr. Guan has lost the ability to walk due to a severe leg injury resulting from the disciplinary staff's torture.

They arbitrarily extended the prison term of another practitioner, Mr. Gao Changze, by three months. They repeatedly beat him and deprived him of the right to use the bathroom. Practitioner Mr. Jia Shouxin was imprisoned inside the prison's library for half a year. He was once forced to squat until 4:00 a.m. and had only two hours of sleep. Each time he was subjected to the "Small Bench" torture, he was made sit on it for 18 hours without any break. Some practitioners were deprived of sleep for the entire night. Practitioner Mr. Li Hailin has disabilities. He was sent to the Intensive Torture Team for much more intensive torture. Besides the torture, the guards also force practitioners to perform hard labor. The practitioners who are especially determined in Falun Gong are watched around the clock.

3. Mr. Guo Hanbo, Owner of Zhencheng Jewelry Store in Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, Is Being Persecuted

Mr. Guo Hanbo is the owner of Zhencheng Jewelry Store in Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, as well as a determined Falun Gong practitioner. In March 2001, the Cang County Public Security Bureau illegally ransacked his jewelry shop and robbed over 3,000 yuan of merchandise. Afterwards, the same bureau illegally put a bounty on him and often harassed him at home in the middle of the night. He had no choice but to flee from home and go into hiding in order to avoid additional harassment and further persecution. On July 22, 2001, the police arrested him and put him in custody of the public security bureau. They deprived him of sleep for many days while repeatedly torturing him during the interrogation. They had his hands cuffed behind his back, subjected him to brutal beatings, and shocked him with stun guns. As a result, he was unable to bend or move his left arm for a long time. After the violent interrogation, the police transferred him to the Cangzhou No.1 Detention Center. After having illegally imprisoned him for over a year past his original sentence, the police transferred him to the Baoding City No.1 Prison and sentenced him to 11 years in prison. He is now made to perform slave labor, smashing rocks in a porcelain factory administered by the Baoding City No.1 Prison. He is also being subjected to forced brainwashing.

4. Facts of the Police's Persecution Against Practitioners in Qingyuan County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province

On March 28, 2005, the police arrested Ms. Gai Shurong, a practitioner in Yantonggou Village, Tukouzi Township, Qingyuan County, and illegally ransacked her home. The police also arrested her daughter. In addition, the police also arrested two elderly female practitioners residing in Tukouzi Township. Ms. Gai Shurong's family members paid the police 500 yuan to have Ms. Gai's daughter released. As for the three other arrested practitioners, the police claimed that they had taken them to the police's Defense and Control Division. However, when Ms. Gai's family finally located the division, they did not see them there. It has been nearly two weeks since the police arrested Ms. Gai Shurong, but her current whereabouts are still unknown.
