Gao Rongrong is known to many as the innocent woman whose face was disfigured with electric batons by the Chinese police simply because she persisted in her belief. She may have died in silence, but now an increasing number of people who are learning about her death are becoming interested in Falun Gong and concerned about the genocidal persecution in China.
Although the precise details of her death are lacking due to the brutal persecution, the CCP's severe information blockade and the fact that many practitioners who were involved in her recent rescue effort were arrested and are undergoing persecution, some people have reached the clear conclusion that Gao Rongrong was murdered under orders from the 610 Office. The detailed information about the direct cause of her death, her second arrest, and the tortures she suffered after the arrest are all incomplete, but certain documents for this case have been secretly delivered abroad through civil channels, which has made the overall picture of this murder clear.
610 Office - The Murderers
In October 2004, Gao Rongrong successfully escaped from under the guard's noses and she publicized to the world her facial disfigurement from electric shock baton torture. After that, the 610 Office treated her as a mortal enemy. Luo Gan, the head of the central 610 Office, personally arranged retaliation against her, claiming, "This incident has caused too much of a stir in the international community." He ordered his subordinates to "take good care of her case." The Ministry of Public Security listed her escape as Top Priority Case No. 26. A Special Case Group was established at the Shenyang City State Security Bureau, and the Shenyang City Judicial Bureau issued a "Notice for Assistance in Investigation."
"Take good care of her case" is a euphemism for an execution order. According to witnesses, Gao Rongrong was sent to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp after she was abducted for the second time on March 6, 2005. She was held there until June 6, 2005, when she was sent for emergency treatment to the No. 1 Hospital affiliated with the China Medical University in Shenyang City.
It is unknown what she went through at the labor camp during those three months that resulted in her being near-death. Many Falun Gong practitioners who were involved in her escape and rescue were also abducted and tortured.
Gao Rongrong's parents went to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp numerous times and asked to meet with their daughter. Su Jing, one of the heads of the labor camp, lied and said Gao Rongrong wasn't there, and that the government was investigating her case and even she could not see Gao Rongrong. Later she changed her story and said, "Gao Rongrong is here and she is eating well. She is doing great!" Wang, another head of the labor camp said to Ms. Gao's parents on the fourth day of her emergency hospitalization, "We never wanted to accept her to begin with. Those 'higher ups' forced us to take her. It is up to them to decide whether you are allowed to visit her or if she is to be released."
Gao Rongrong's former work unit, the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang City falsely claimed in a document issued in late March 2005 that Gao Rongrong had gone overseas.
The 610 Office intentionally blocked access to Gao Rongrong and made her disappear from public view. Authorities at the Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp, the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, the Judicial Department in Liaoning Province, the Liaoning Province Labor Re-education Bureau and persons from the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts told the same story about Gao Rongrong. Not a single person dared to reveal her whereabouts or any facts about her.
An insidious murder was purposely covered up. In a dark environment, Gao Rongrong most likely suffered tortures unimaginable to people living in a peaceful environment. During the process, her health reached a critical state.
Emergency Hospitalization - A Deceitful Formality
Gao Rongrong "emerged" again on June 6.
The Emergency Room doctor who treated Gao Rongrong said, "She was in critical condition when she was brought here."
Did the 610 Office agents allow any real medical treatment to be administered to Gao Rongrong during her ten-day hospitalization between June 6 and June 16?
One of Gao Rongrong's relatives with some medical knowledge immediately pointed out that Gao Rongrong did not receive enough nutritional supplements and those that were administered were not appropriate for her condition. He concluded that Gao Rongrong suffered systemic failure of bodily functions caused by long-term malnutrition (starved to death).
According to witnesses, the hospital did not in any way provide the necessary treatments for Gao Rongrong and did not even give her any food. The fact that a hospital does not make the effort to treat a critically ill patient leads one to suspect that the hospital was also following "special orders" from the higher-ups or was otherwise under great pressure. Then, who else but Luo Gan and its 610 Office have the authority to give such orders?
Around 9:00 a.m. on June 12, after having received a notice, Gao Rongrong's parents rushed to the hospital. They saw Gao Rongrong was at death's door after being diagnosed with systemic failure. She had a very weak pulse. She was hooked up to an oxygen tank and was skin and bones. She was totally unconscious and did not react to outside stimuli. The scars on her face the electric shocking had caused were still deep and shocking.
Even under such a severe condition, around 20 people were still observing Gao Rongrong. They asked the doctor many times, even in the presence of Gao Rongrong's mother, "When is she going to die?"
According to the doctor, his medical instruments revealed brain abnormalities. The doctor suspected the cause to be injection(s) of system-damaging drugs.
Gao Rongrong's family asked for Gao Rongrong's medical records and profile during the period she arrived from the Masanjia Labor Camp up to the present, but their request was rudely denied. What do those documents contain that must remain hidden?
Surprisingly, several days before Gao Rongrong passed away, the police had started telling people in the local area that she "has committed suicide through a hunger strike."
After Gao Rongrong died, the 610 Office and the police forbade her family from seeing her body and forced them to agree to let the police monitor and control her body. They even tried to snatch receipts for the "Agreement on Body Placement" and the "Notice on Body Entering/Exiting the Freezer," so that they could cremate her body at the Shenyang City Mortuary unchallenged. In addition to the many spies hovering around Gao Rongrong's family home, the police also installed monitoring devices around their home, and dispatched plainclothes police officers around the mortuary and the places around their home such as department stores and the market. They also isolated Gao Rongrong's family and conducted strict interrogation. Their fear of punishment and their intent to shirk responsibility for Gao Rongrong's murder is clear as day.

"Ms. Gao Rongrong Tortured to Death"
/emh/articles/2005/6/20/62065.html
Our sources informed us that Ms. Gao Rongrong was arrested near the United States Consulate in the Heping District of Shengyang City on March 6, 2005. Practitioner Sun Shiyou, who was with her, was arrested at the same time. Sun Shiyou's current whereabouts are unknown. After Ms Gao's death, the head of the local 610 Office, staff from Masanjia Forced Labor Camp and the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts' Party Committee assistant secretary visited Ms. Gao's home and coerced the family into having her body cremated immediately. Once her body was at the Wenguantuan Funeral Home, Ms. Gao's family members were strongly discouraged from paying their respects. Police are monitoring the area around Ms. Gao's home.
1. Gao Rongrong Was Secretly Held at Masanjia Forced Labor Camp Since She was Arrested
After her arrest, Gao Rongrong was secretly held at the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Gao's family members had called the head of the camp, Su Jing, who in the beginning categorically denied that Ms. Gao was held there. Gao's mother went numerous times to Masanjia. Finally, Su Jing could no longer keep up the farce and disclosed that Ms. Gao had been sent to the University Hospital emergency room on June 6, 2005.
On June 12, Ms. Gao Rongrong went into a coma and did not respond to external stimuli. Her family members noticed after they arrived at the hospital that 20 plus people were monitoring her. They went as far as asking the doctor frequently and in front of Ms. Gao's mother when she would die.
2. The Doctor Suspected that Gao Rongrong Had Been Injected with Harmful Drugs
The doctors divulged that a brain scan revealed that Ms. Gao Rongrong's brain looked abnormal. The doctor suspected that the abnormality was due to her having been injected with harmful drugs. Her family members demanded that all medical records taken at Masanjia and the University hospital be turned over to them. This request was refused without explanation.
3. Escalating the Persecution and Colluding to Hide the Truth
During the three months after Gao Rongrong was abducted and missing, staff from the involved organizations, including Shenyang Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp, Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, the Liaoning Province Courts and the Provinces Forced Labor Bureau gave the same message, "Don't worry, the law will severely punish those responsible! You don't need to search any more. Go home and wait! Those in supervisory positions who hold responsibility are still reviewing the case. This time, the delay has nothing to do with Gao Rongrong. The review centers on the people who arrested her. As soon as they resolve these issues, she will come home. We will then talk about the treatment for her legs. We need to decide if she should go home for the treatment or if we should treat it here. This all will be discussed later." At no time did anyone involved and in the know mention that Gao Rongrong was on a hunger strike and she had grown very weak.
Insiders tell us that with regards to Gao Rongrong's earlier rescue by fellow Falun Gong practitioners, the authorities were worried that their crimes would be exposed further worldwide. Luo Gan, the Head of the Central 610 Office got personally involved. He and No.26 in the Ministry of Public Security viewed this as an important case. The Shenyang City Security Bureau created a "Special Working Group." They set up a special office and interrogation room in the small white building of Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp. All practitioners suspected to have any connection with Ms. Gao Rongrong were taken there for interrogation. They publicly announced their names on websites, and followed and monitored these practitioners for the most opportune time to abduct them.
At the end of February and early March of 2005, everyone who had been involved in the rescue of Gao Rongrong was abducted and taken to Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp and from there to Masanjia Female Forced Labor Camp and Shenxin Forced Labor Camp. Meanwhile, they kept Gao Rongrong's whereabouts secret after she was again abducted on March 6. Gao Rongrong's parents had returned to Shenyang after an out-of-town trip and found that Gao had disappeared. Staff from the Shenyang Public Security Bureau, Heping Sub-bureau and the local police station kept passing the buck, and refused to disclose her whereabouts. Her former employer, Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, even issued a phony document in late March, in which they alleged that Ms. Gao Rongrong had left China.
Falun Gong practitioner Sun Shiyou, who was at the time with Gao, was also abducted. They had been near the United States Consulate, located in the Heping District, Shenyang City. No one knows where he is either. His wife Dong Jingzhe was brutally persecuted at Masanjia and has been on a hunger strike for close to four months. It was reported that Dong Jingzhe's legs were fractured from the torture.
In March 2005, Gao Rongrong's parents went to Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp to inquire about the situation of Gao. Shi Fengyou who was in charge of brainwashing told them, "The Zhangshi Re-education Center had not accepted Gao Rongrong, but he had seen Gao Rongrong at the Masanjia hospital." Later, though, he changed his statement, and said that he saw Gao Rongrong when he took Dong Jingya (another abducted Falun Dafa practitioner) to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Shi Fengyou stated, "The situation is under control. You don't need to look any further. Her legs have not returned to normal. She can't stand upright yet. When all is well, she will be sent home. She is doing fine."
Gao Rongrong's father asked: "Has Luo Gan become interested in this case?" Shi Fengyou answered: "Luo Gan has given direction, as this matter has too big of a worldwide impact. Let us 'handle the situation well'."
Gao Rongrong's elderly parents went again to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. No one dared to come to meet with them. Only after intense persistence did the manager Su Jing come to meet with them. Su Jing said, "It can be said that Gao Rongrong is at Masanjia, though she is not here in person." She said that even she was unable to see Gao Rongrong, as the appropriate authorities were interrogating her.
In early April, Ms. Gao's elderly parents visited Masanjia again. They found Su Jing and asked about Gao Rongrong's hunger strike. Su said: "At this time everything is well. She is eating very well." Ms. Gao's mother asked, "Didn't you say that you were unable to see Gao Rongrong? How can you be so sure that she is eating well?" Su replied, "I have been informed about it. I do know."
They asked where Gao Rongrong was and requested to see her in person. Su Jing refused the request and told them to go home. She said that they had to wait for instructions from those at higher levels handling her case.
Gao Rongrong's family went to Masanjia many times, requested to see her and asked for her release. A deputy with the surname Zhao (female) came to see them every time. At one time, Gao Rongrong's mother asked about Gao's broken legs and requested to see her. Zhao said: "She is doing well. You don't need to worry about having to bring food for her." The mother suggested again that she would take Ms. Gao home to nurse her legs, Zhao claimed: "We can't let her go home the way she looks at this time. The social impact would not be good."
The persecution is the real reason for the negative effect on society and the associated international impact. Yet, the Chinese Communist regime, which is the primary criminal in the persecution, not only does not end the suppression and the inhuman treatment of practitioners, but also increases its efforts to cover the truth and escalates the persecution significantly. In addition, it accuses the victims of causing the negative impact on society. This is a distinctive characteristic of the criminal and autocratic nature of the CCP.
4. Using the Excuse of "Orders from Above" and Collaborate in the Persecution
Ms. Gao's family members put much effort into searching for her, including requesting information from relevant government offices. They told the officials, "Ms. Gao was disfigured from electric shock batons; her leg was broken from torture. Yet, the perpetrators are not punished. According to the forced-labor regulations, because she is a victim who has been seriously injured, she should not be detained."
Shi Fengyou from the Zhangshi Forced Labor Camp, Su Jing and Vice Director Zhao from the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, and officials from the provincial judiciary department and the forced labor bureau all said that the law will accordingly punish the perpetrators. They told the family to go home and wait for more information and that "authorities above" had not reached a conclusion regarding the case. "This time, Gao Rongrong is not in trouble; the people who carried her away are in trouble, not Ms. Gao. We will send her home once the case is wrapped up. Furthermore, we will discuss the issue of treating her legs - whether to treat her first or let her go home and receive treatment there." From the beginning to the end of the inquiries, no one mentioned that Ms. Gao was on a hunger strike and in critical condition during the discussions.
On June 6, 2005, members of the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp sent Ms. Gao from the Dabei Prison Hospital in Shenyang City to the No. 1 Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University for emergency care. However, when Ms. Gao's parents went to Masanjia on June 10 to visit her, a male director of the Dabei Prison Hospital named Wang said to them, "We did not want to take her, but since we received an "order from above," we had to. We will follow any orders we receive about whether to let you visit her or when to release her." He never mentioned that by that time, Ms. Gao was in critical condition and had been sent to No. 1 Affiliated Hospital.
5. Intentionally Causing Ms. Gao's Death
Around 9 a.m. on June 12, 2005, after receiving a notice, Mr. Gao's family members went to the hospital. They saw Ms. Gao with a respirator in her mouth - she was unconscious and emaciated. All her organs were failing. Her face, particularly the left side, was still covered with scars from the electric shock batons.
One of the family members has medical knowledge. The relative immediately realized that Ms. Gao's nutrients were not sufficient - in fact, the nutrients did not fit her condition. The family member concluded that Ms. Gao's body was failing because she had not had food for a long time. The emergency room doctor in charge of Ms. Gao's case said, "She was in critical condition when she arrived here on June 6."
Ms. Gao's family members asked the guards from the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp who were posted by her room, "Why is she in such a condition? Why didn't you notify us earlier?" The guards all said that they had just started working for the labor camp, so they did not know anything about Ms. Gao.
Meanwhile, some persecutors stayed around Ms. Gao's home. They told Ms. Gao's neighbors, "Ms. Gao Rongrong is on a hunger strike, and she is dying."
On June 16, 2005, Ms. Gao died in the emergency room of the No. 1 Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University. She was only 37 years old when she died. The same previously mentioned persecutors, who kept saying that the "higher authorities" had not reached a conclusion regarding this case are now pressuring Ms. Gao's family members to cremate her body and destroy all evidence of the torture.
6. Wei Ershen, Vice Principal of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, is also responsible
Wei Ershen, vice principal of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, is also responsible for Ms. Gao's death. Wei is a representative of the National People's Congress and the vice director of the China Fine Arts Association. Simply because Ms. Gao clarified the truth to students at Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, Wei had her abducted and taken to the Longshan Forced Labor Camp, where she was disfigured. Afterwards, her family members many times asked Wei for help. Yet, as the vice principal of the college and a representative of the National People's Congress, Wei ignored them completely. It is said that Wei often travels abroad as a tourist.

Under the state terrorist policies of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the 610 Office systematically carries out Jiang Zemin's orders of "defaming their [Falun Gong practitioners'] reputations, bankrupting them financially, destroying them physically," and "practitioners tortured to death will be recorded as suicide cases, do not identify the body; cremate locally." As a result, many Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death or injured. Countless families have been torn apart, and hundreds of thousands of practitioners have been forced to leave home and become destitute to avoid being imprisoned. Millions of practitioners' family members, friends and colleagues have been subjected to various degrees of brainwashing, and many have been drawn into participating in the persecution. Despite layers of information blockades, it has been verified through non-governmental sources that more than 2,600 Falun Gong practitioners have died from persecution. These are only the cases uncovered so far. Among them, about 55% were women, and about 57% of the women were more than 50 years old.
Falun Dafa practitioners in China have demonstrated the tortures administered to them while they were held in the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp of Liaoning Province.
1. Practitioner Li Suyun demonstrates the torture methods applied to her.
Ms. Li had been jailed in Masanjia for 6 months and she was tortured almost every day. After half a year in Masanjia, her weight fell from over 50 Kg to only about 20 plus Kg. Seeing that she was dying, the Labor Camp released her.

The guards organizing the tortures included Political Supervisor Sao Li, Captain Lu Yurong, Captain Wang Guangyun, Political Supervisor Zhang Jun, and Captain Li Shuhuan.
2. Practitioner Liu Fengmei demonstrates being shocked with electric batons
Demonstrations: Shocked with electric baton
The guards who participated in the electric shock tortures are: Division Captain Wang Yanping, Squadron Captain Zhou Qian. These two shocked her and coerced her at the same time, "Write three letters or we will continue shock you." Other practitioners locked in nearby cells could hear the sound of electric sparks.
3. Tortures Li Jinghua experienced during forced brainwashing
Torture Demonstration
Guards participating in torturing Ms. Li Jinghua included the Captain of the 3rd Division Yang Yu, (Squadron) Captain Zhang Yan, and Captain of the 1st Division, Wang Yanping. The police tortured Li Jinghua to force her to give up her belief. They used sleep-deprivation, electric shocks, and "locked in small cage". Later, Li Jinghua was jailed in a mental hospital until she suffered a mental collapse from the abuse she received there.
4. Sun Xiuhua demonstrates how guards shocked her with electric batons
Electric Shock Demonstration
The guards who participated in torturing Ms. Sun Xiuhua included the Captain of the 2nd Division, Zhao Guorong, and guard Sheng Ying.
5. Practitioner Xu Xiuying was tortured with forced-feeding while she was on hunger strike to protest the brainwashing.

The guards who participated in torturing Xu Xiuying included Political Supervisor Zhang Jun and Division Captain Dong Bin.
The Public Procurator Qin Chunzhi from the Procuratorate Bureau in Liaoning Province actively cooperated with the 610 Office and refused to give a medical examination report to Gao Rongrong's family after the electric shock disfigured her face. When she was arrested again, Qin Chunzhi threatened her family with intimidating comments saying if he himself was found to be responsible for this case, he would not be so lenient.
The Director and Vice-Director of the Jiaxing Street Heping District Police Station in Shenyang City and policemen Jin Dayong and Cao Gang all participated many times in the arrest of Gao Rongrong.
The Director of Security Tian Liwu along with a person with the last name Qu was with the No.10 Public Security stationed long term at Luxun Academy of Fine Arts. These two continue to actively persecute Falun Gong practitioners and were particularly brutal in persecuting Gao Rongrong. They participated in repeatedly arresting her. The Director of the financial Department Jia Shuping was also involved in persecuting Gao Rongrong.
Vice Secretary Wang Hong (female) from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts and Sun Jie, Director of the Propaganda Department (also the 610 Office at Luxun Academy of Fine Arts), came to Gao Rongrong's home on June 17 and attempted to force her parents to cremate Gao Rongrong immediately. Gao's parents chased them out.
The Higher Education Union in Liaoning Province followed through with orders from Shenyang City 610 Office and Political Legal Committee's so-called "Special Case Team" and removed all evidence regarding Gao Rongrong from Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, they also instructed the Institute that no one other than the "Special Case Team" was allowed to handle anything regarding Gao Rongrong. They prepared, planned and carried out the unjust arrest of Gao according to Luo Gan's instruction. In 2003, when Gao Rongrong discussed Falun Gong with a student and was reported by the student's wife, the Vice-Director from the Higher Education Union along with Zhang Chen, Wei Ershen, Wang Hong, Sun Jie, Tian Liwu, Mr. Qu and Jia Shuping increased pressure on Gao Rongrong. They later got together with Shenyang City 610 Office, Heping and Jiaxing Police Station to arrest Gao Rongrong and transfer her to the City Detention Center. Gao ended up in Longshan Correctional Facility in Shenyang where she suffered a series of tortures by way of electric batons shocking her face for many hours which resulted in severe disfiguration of the face.
The Director Wang from Masanjia Labor Camp and one member from the Political Committee also went to Gao Rongrong's home to pressure relatives to cremate Gao's remains.
There are three more important characters from among Gao Rongrong's killer list: Li Fengshi from Longshan Labor Camp, Director Zhu and Shi Fengyou from Zhangshi Labor Camp. Shi Fengyou personally told Gao's father: "Li Fengshi was at his wits end and asked me to talk with Gao Rongrong, I tried for half an hour, but I could not fix her." The individuals who arranged the arrest of Gao Rongrong were stationed at a little white building in the Zhangshi Labor Camp. One practitioner witnessed the Director of the Labor Camp Zhu and several police torture a male Falun Gong practitioner with electric batons while he was tied up in a bed, and forced him to point out Gao Rongrong's hiding place.
Mr. Lin Shusen, from Qingan County, Heilongjiang Province, is 32 years old. Since May 2005, his family has lost contact with him. He went to Beijing over a month ago. Recently, after many inquiries from different sources, we have learned that Mr. Lin was arrested by officers from the Xinjiekou Police Station in the Xicheng District of Beijing on April 28 and is now detained at the Beijing Xicheng Detention Center, Jia 7 Jia, Qiliqu Township, Shahe Town in the Changping District of Beijing. On May 31, he was transferred to the Beijing No. 2 Detention Center, which is under the 7th Division of the Beijing City Government. So far his family has not been able to see him.
Mr. Lin graduated from Beijing Acupuncture for Bone Injury School. He started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. Since the suppression of Falun Gong by Jiang's regime started in 1999, just because he upheld his belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance," Mr. Lin was arrested by the 1st Division of the Beijing Police Department in January 2001 and was later sentenced to three years in prison by the Beijing Chaoyang District Court. On January 17, 2001, he was sent to Qianjin Prison in Chadian Town of Tianjin City, where he was brutally tortured. To try to make him give up practicing Falun Gong, the police applied various physical and mental tortures on him such as the use of straight jackets, the Death Bed, shocking him with electric batons, non-stop labor, deprivation of sleep, handcuffing his arms behind his back, and forced-brainwashing. But they all ended up in vain. The police also shocked him simultaneously with 11 electric batons with tens of thousands of volts.
Mr. Lin Shusen was mentally disoriented for over six months
from the tortures at the Qianjin Prison under the Qinghe Prison
Management Bureau of Beijing.
After he was released, he was again illegally arrested by the Beijing
police on April 28, 2005.

Ms. Ye Mi, a young instructor at the Art College of Xiamen University, mailed a letter to her friends telling them of her genuine practice experience with Falun Gong and exposing the lies of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP's) slanderous media campaign. In retaliation, the Xiamen Municipal Court brought a charge against Ms. Ye. The court hearing was originally scheduled for June 3, but the date was changed at the last moment and the hearing was held on the morning of June 9. The so-called "trial," under the direction of the CCP, was transferred into a show that completely blurred right from wrong, black from white, and was an illegal attempt to impose an indictment on the defendant.
Ye Mi is a young instructor at the Art College of Xiamen University. She is sincere, kind, understanding and always ready to help others. Her colleagues, friends and students all think very highly of her. Everybody says that she is an exceptionally good person. Ye Mi works hard and conscientiously. During the school evaluations, her students always give her a very high rating. Her students commented that Ye Mi not only taught them art, but she was also an inspiration; she taught them how to be moral and noble people.
The letter that Ye Mi mailed to her friends was intercepted by the authorities. They used this letter as "evidence" to indict her. They changed the court date from June 3 to June 9 at the last moment. Officials threatened that this time, they would give Ms. Ye a severe sentence.
The public prosecutor read out the indictment, claiming that Ye Mi used a [slanderous word omitted] to interfere with the execution of law, calling it a very serious situation. He recommended that Ms. Ye should be sentenced from 3 to 7 years in prison.
The public prosecutor held up some Falun Gong books that had been confiscated from Ye Mi's residence and asked her if they belonged to her. Ms. Ye replied, "Yes, they are mine.". The public prosecutor then asked her what they were used for. Ye Mi replied that she read those books for her personal study. The public prosecutor held up 30 computer discs that they had confiscated from Ms. Ye's residence and asked if they were hers. Ye Mi said yes, but they were blank - there was nothing on them. The public prosecutor pointed at the computer confiscated from Ms. Ye's residence and asked if it was hers. Ye Mi again replied in the affirmative. The public prosecutor asked what she used it for. Ye Mi said that she mainly used it for teaching. It was clear that none of the confiscated items could be used as "evidence."
The so-called "serious situation" referred to 62 letters that were intercepted by the authorities. Only one of them was written by Ms. Ye to her friends, wherein she described her personal experience and what she had learned through Falun Dafa. She learned that Falun Gong could improve one's health and raise one's moral standard. She also told her friends and her fellow practitioners that she simply wanted to follow "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" to be a good person, and she did not intend to oppose anyone. Simply for this, Ye Mi is encountering brutal persecution.
Ye Mi stated in court that she wrote that letter herself. At the same time, she explained that as a Chinese citizen, she has the freedom to write letters. This right is protected by the Chinese Constitution. Intercepting citizens' personal letters and using them as evidence to impose long prison sentences is unconstitutional. She said it was an evil deed that violated human rights.
The public prosecutor accused Ms. Ye of using this letter as Falun Gong "propaganda material." The defense attorney counter-argued that the letter was simply a personal letter, not publicity material at all. In addition, the letter did not even reach the intended addressee and hence it did not play any "propaganda" role.
The public prosecutor's continued accusation of Ms. Ye centered around "61 letters that had Falun Gong materials and some 100 copies of other Falun Gong materials." Ye Mi had never seen those materials, and therefore, certainly she would not acknowledge that they were hers. The public prosecutor said that the handwriting on the envelopes was believed to be hers, hence the indictment was valid and could be used as evidence even if Ye Mi did not acknowledge them.
The defense attorney requested that the 61 letters be presented in court, but the public prosecutor rejected the request.
The defense attorney once more asked that the public prosecutor at least present some convincing evidence proving that Ms. Ye wrote the 61 letters and proving that these 61 envelopes were stuffed with more than 100 items of publicity materials. Once again, the court rejected this request.
Ye Mi then said, "If you cannot present the original 61 letters, then please present pictures or photocopies of these letters for me to see." This request was also rejected.
Ye Mi gave a statement, saying that, on the evening of December 27, 2004, during wide-scale arrests of Falun Gong practitioners sponsored by the Xiamen City 610 Office and the Municipal Police Department, she was illegally sentenced to over half a year of forced labor. During the illegal imprisonment, she was unable to take care of and educate her son. Her husband worked overseas. During that time, he had to leave his job and come back to Xiamen to take care of their son. Ye Mi missed her parents, her husband and her son, as well as her students and friends. After she was released from the labor camp, the 610 Office personnel always followed her. Ye Mi requested that the illegal and inhuman persecution be stopped immediately.
During the trial, Ms. Ye remained calm and positive. She frequently smiled at her friends and colleagues who were in the audience. When she made her statement, she was extremely gentle. Everyone in the audience was deeply sympathetic towards Ms. Ye and had the highest respect for her. She used the gentlest words to indicate her firm and clear-cut standpoint. Ye Mi is an exceptionally good and kind-hearted person. Since she practiced Falun Gong and wrote a letter describing her experience to her friends, she was sentenced to prison. This is both vicious and ludicrous!
Ye Mi and her attorney repeatedly requested that the 61 letters be presented in court, but the requests were repeatedly rejected. Then the "judge" announced a court recess. However, after waiting for over an hour, the audience was told that the trial was over.
What a farce! The vicious plot behind this show trial, however, was obvious. The authorities resorted to all means in their attempt to imprison someone who believes in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." Ms. Ye is a person who fulfills her duty responsibly, and is deeply loved by her students; she is a virtuous wife, an affectionate mother, a kind, beautiful and talented artist! All kind-hearted people, please offer your support to help stop this persecution!
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Fu Xingli, about 40 years old, is from Daqinjia Village, Daqinjia Town, Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province. Mr. Fu was subjected to persecution by the authorities in 2001 because he clarified the truth about Falun Gong to other people. He was forced to become homeless to avoid further persecution. He was recently arrested and has reportedly fallen from the third floor of a building, causing severe injuries. His face was badly mutilated, he has a bleeding lung, and his life is in danger. He is in the Zhaoyuan City People's Hospital.
The officials are tightly guarding the facts, and the real situation is unknown.
In Mr. Fu Xingli's family, more than 10 members practice Falun Dafa, each of whom has suffered persecution, including his oldest sister, who was illegally detained in a forced labor camp for two years. The second eldest sister was also forced into homelessness for the past four years because she clarified the truth. One of his sisters-in-law was illegally detained at the Wang Village Labor Camp in Shandong Province. Another of Mr. Fu's sisters and a sister-in-law were both forced to become homeless for three years and were then arrested, one sentenced to seven years and the other to eight, because they told people the truth about Falun Gong. They were both held at the Shandong Provincial Jail. Fu Xingli's father, because he was detained and persecuted so many times and could no longer bear his family's miserable situation, died in 2003 without getting the chance to see his children before he died. Several children of family members were left with no one to care for them except Fu Xingli's mother, who is more than 70 years old, and can barely manage.
Mr. Fu has one son and one daughter, who are both in high school. He also takes care of his sister's children and his mother. Before he was arrested, he spent every day working hard to make money to care for his family, clarify the truth to people, and avoid arrest. During the past four years, he has suffered repeated arrests and was subjected to persecution over and over again. He has endured many hardships.

Practitioner Dong Xia from Qian'an City, Jilin Province was detained in the Qian'an Detention Center and persecuted to the point of becoming disabled. On March 30, 2005, Police Chief Jia Hongfu with accomplices from the National Security Group of Qian'an City came to Qizi Village of Zanzi Town, Qian'an City and arrested Dong Xia, who had just arrived from Jilin City.
The following are letters from Dong's mother and daughter calling for justice:
Calling for Justice for My Daughter
Since childhood, my daughter had very poor health, suffering from rheumatism, nephritis and osteophytosis. After she practiced Falun Dafa, all of her diseases disappeared. Our family is very grateful to Falun Gong and Master. Master has freed my daughter from the pains of illness. My daughter has since strived to be a good person by strictly following the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." In order to let more people learn about Falun Dafa and benefit from it like herself, she returned to her hometown from Jilin City for eight days, but Jia Hongfu and his accomplices arrested her.
My daughter was paralyzed only days after being detained at the detention center. This grieved me terribly. I cannot understand why she was arrested in the first place. To be a virtuous person by following the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" is not a crime. Why is she still detained there and suffering such pain?
I asked the chief of the city Public Security Bureau why my daughter was tortured and disabled in the detention center. His reaction surprised me. He was furious that his secretary allowed me to enter his office. He screamed that his room was not for people like me and dragged me out of his office.
The chief's behavior was an insult. How can his conscience let him treat an older person like that? I would like to make it clear that anything that happened to my daughter is the sole responsibility of the Public Security Bureau. The law is supposed to punish the bad people. My daughter is innocent. It is not wrong to follow the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance."
Dong Xia's mother,
Liu Guifang
Letter to the People of Dong Xia's Hometown
Dear People of Qizi Village:
I grew up in our town and I won't forget those who helped me and showed kindness towards me, and especially those who nurtured me.
Unfortunately, I am extremely saddened by what took place in our town a few days ago. As you know, my mother's poor health and her many diseases all vanished after she practiced Falun Gong. Her outlook changed and she no longer cared much for fame and money, strictly following the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" in her daily life, and striving to be a good person.
My mother lived with me in Jilin City, but she missed very much all the people in our home town, especially those who once practiced Falun Gong with her. She once said to me, "Now that many people have given up the practice in our home town and are suffering from their old illnesses again, I should not be selfish. I must go back to our town and help them to return to the practice and be free from pain again."
My mother's kindness has touched me greatly and I am so grateful to Falun Gong for bringing her peace and happiness. This is why my mother came back to our town. But she was detained and tortured at the detention center.
It is incredible that an unarmed older person was treated this way for breaking no law. Is it a crime to be a virtuous person by following "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance"?
Good is rewarded with good and evil meets evil. I hope our fellow countrymen can maintain their integrity, do more good and be blessed.
Daughter of Dong Xia,
Zhang Wei
