Falun Gong practitioners in Shenyang City are issuing an urgent appeal to international humanitarian organizations on behalf of ten Falun Gong practitioners who have been arrested for rescuing Ms. Gao Rongrong. They are: Ms. Dong Jingzhe, Ms. Zhang Lirong, Ms. Ma Lianxiao, Ms. Dong Jingya, Ms. Sui Hua; Mr. Sun Shiyou, Mr. Liu Qingming, Mr. Feng Gang, Mr. Ma Yuping, and Mr. Wu Junde.
We have learned that Ms. Ma Lianxiao and Mr. Sun Shiyou have been missing for quite a long time. Ms. Dong Jingzhe is in critical condition from torture.
Ms. Ma Lianxiao, a 59-year-old employee of the Liaoning Province Construction Academy of Science, benefited physically and mentally from practicing Falun Gong. She was arrested in July 2003 and sentenced to eight years in prison. She was released only when she was close to death due to torture. After being subjected to torture several times, she was severely injured. She often felt lightheaded, her entire body trembled, and she could not walk steadily. In March, she was again arrested and taken to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Shortly afterwards it was discovered that she was no longer in Masanjia. When concerned people made inquiries, Masanjia authorities told them, "She was sent home already." Everyone looked for her everywhere, but no one could not locate her. Ms. Ma Lianxiao's whereabouts remain unknown.
Mr. Sun Shiyou, 35 years old and a project manager at an advertising company, is the son-in-law of Ms. Ma Lianxiao. He was sent to Shenxin Forced Labor Camp in early April and went on a hunger strike to protest the brutal persecution. In mid-April, he was taken to Dabei Prison Hospital. At the end of April, several practitioners went to Dabei Prison Hospital to see Mr. Sun. The hospital staff said, "Sun Shiyou has gone home. He held a hunger strike and was bailed out for medical treatment." The practitioners asked, "How was his health?" They answered, "Okay." In early May, a practitioner went to Shenxin Forced Labor Camp to visit detained family members. That practitioner confirmed that Mr. Sun Shiyou was not at Shenxin Forced Labor Camp. He was believed to have returned home, but though more than a month has passed, nobody has seen him.
On May 28, practitioners visited Dabei Prison Hospital. They entered the wards for detained prisoners and shouted, "Sun Shiyou, Sun Shiyou." A guard appeared and asked, "Who are you looking for?" They answered, "We are looking for Sun Shiyou." The guard said, "He is not here." "Where did he go?" The guard answered: "He was picked up by staff from Shenxin a long time ago." A practitioner commented, "He is not at Shenxin." The guard answered, "Then we do not know his whereabouts." At the beginning of June, practitioners went to Shenxin and learned that Sun Shiyou was not there. Sun Shiyou's whereabouts are unknown.
Ms. Dong Jingzhe is the wife of Mr. Sun Shiyou and the daughter of Ms. Ma Lianxiao. She is 32 years old, an advertising stylist, and is now being held at Masanjia Forced Labor Camp without due process. She has been on a hunger strike for more than two months. After she was injected with unknown drugs, her lower limbs became paralyzed and she lost the ability to take care of herself. On June 23, concerned people visited her at Masanjia. The guard who was responsible for Dong Jingzhe said, "Dong Jingzhe can't move now. She can't even open her eyes. She is on a hunger strike."
Ms. Dong Jingya, a construction designer, is the elder sister of Ms. Dong Jingzhe. She is now detained at Masanjia.
Ms. Zhang Lirong was taken to the local police station. While there, she was injected with an unknown drug. As a result, she felt ill and became dizzy. She is being detained at Masanjia for further persecution.
Ms. Sui Hua is being held at Masanjia without due process. After police at the local police station injected an unknown drug, she suffered great pain in her legs. She can now barely walk.
Another fellow practitioner, Zheng Shoujun, was also injected with an unknown drug.
Mr. Liu Qingming and Mr. Ma Yuping are also imprisoned in Shenxin Forced Labor Camp without due process and are suffering severe persecution.
Mr. Zheng Lin, 58 years old, was a Dafa disciple from Yushulinzi Village, Dagushan Town, Yitong County, Jilin Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in the spring of 1999. After Jiang and the CCP began to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal. The Yitong County Police Department illegally detained him for 45 days and fined him nearly ten thousand yuan. On February 15, 2001, he was abducted into a brainwashing program held by the County Committee Party School and the authorities extorted 400 yuan from him.
In the spring of 2002, he was arrested again. The leading policeman was Li Deben from Dagushan town local police station. At the 610 Office of Yitong County, Zheng was brutally tortured and interrogated. Later, he was detained for over 40 days.
On August 27, 2002, policeman Wang Bo and several others from Yitong County's Dagushan Town local police station arrested Zheng again and put him in a brainwashing program at Yitong County Party School. Four days later, Zheng, along with Falun Gong practitioner Liu Wen and Chen Yuxia, escaped the school with righteous thoughts. The policemen shot in the direction they were running.
To avoid being seized again, Zheng Lin became destitute and homeless. However, on September 9, 2002, he was arrested again in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. The local police viciously tortured him to make him tell his name and address. Later, Yitong County policemen Ma Gang and Zhao Feng took him back to his hometown. At the Yitong County Detention Center, Li Xiaodong and Ma Gang, the policemen of the local national security team, beat Zheng with hardwood sticks until his whole body was fully covered with cuts and bruises.
On October 31, 2002, Mr. Zheng Lin was illegally sentenced two years of forced labor "re-education." He was jailed in Changchun City's Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp. Meanwhile, Liu Wen and Chen Yuxia were also sentenced to forced labor. Zheng was severely tortured in the forced labor camp. Even when he was very weak, the policemen still forced him to work.
Because Zheng refused to write the so-called five statements (similar to the three statements), the authorities refused to release him when the sentence was over. Having been jailed for an additional 22 days, he was so weak that the policemen finally sent him home for fear of having to take responsibility if he died in custody. Zheng Lin returned home on September 30, 2004. His family sent him to Gongzhuling City Hospital in Jilin Province for examination. The X-rays showed no image of the right lung, the liver sagging, the cervical vertebrae severely wounded, the right calf bone fractured, and three of his ribs broken. He had also suffered heavy coughing with blood.
Because his body was so severely injured, the hospital was unable to rescue him, though many treatments were applied. Zheng Lin passed away on April 4, 2005.
Mr. Lan Bing is 37 years old this year and is locked up in the Tilanqiao Prison in Shanghai, serving a heavy ten-year sentence. His wife Ms. Zhang Ying is 35 years old. She was sentenced to two and a half-years of forced labor, but managed to get out of the Shanghai Women's Forced Labor Camp with the power of righteous thoughts. She is now living in the Dachang District, Baoshan, Shanghai. The day she left the forced labor camp she refused to sign the release notice. She always said no to anything the evil requested. This couple started practicing Falun Gong in 1994. From then on, they lived a very happy life.
In July 1999, when the persecution of Falun Gong began, the couple lived in the Putuo District. Over a two week period, the Putuo District Police Department officials repeatedly summoned Mr. Lan to come to the Police Department. Later the local police officers often went to the couple's home. The person at the entrance to their complex and also the person at the garage tailed them every day. Because of this loss of their freedom, the couple left their home and lived a homeless life. They couldn't contact other family members in a normal way, either. Since 2000, in order to let more people know the truth about Falun Gong and to avoid being captured and persecuted, they have constantly changed their living arrangements.
In 2000, the police looked everywhere for Mr. Lan and his wife. They also dispatched secret agents to locate them, but failed to find them. They then tried to separate the Falun Gong practitioners. In 2001, the police issued a warrant for their arrest on the Internet. With their firm belief in Falun Gong, and Master's protection, Mr. Lan and other practitioners headed off one danger after another.
In August 2001, police officers from the Xuhui District Police Department arrested Mr. Lan on his way to deliver truth clarification materials. During the interrogation the authorities didn't allow him to sleep; they used an intense sunlamp to irradiate him for a long time and didn't allow him to rest. That lasted seven days and nights. Finally, in a state of unconsciousness, Mr. Lan was sent to Xuhui District Detention Center. On arrival they put him onto the concrete floor. Mr. Lan regained consciousness after lying on the concrete floor for three days. Before long he was sent to the Tilanqiao Hospital in Shanghai because his legs were swollen and he was unable to stand. The symptoms were diagnosed as viral rheumatism. During the four months of hospitalization in the Tilanqiao Hospital, the hospital sent out two urgent notices that he was close to death. That whole time, however, his family knew nothing. We have heard that his health is still not good and that his blood pressure is very high, but the enforcers still make him do hard labor.
Not long after Mr. Lan was arrested, Ms. Zhang was arrested at the truth material production center at Minhang, Shanghai. Later she was locked up in the Xinzhuang Police Station of the Minhang District Police Department. The perpetrators used all sorts of methods to persecute Ms. Zhang and also brutally beat her. They pushed her face onto the floor and handcuffed her behind her back. With Ms. Zhang's face on the floor, they put their knees on her back and pressed her hard. Then, they tortured her by raising the handcuffs toward her shoulders. If she didn't respond they then slapped her in the face. They also tore out clumps of her hair and whipped her with a belt. Because Ms. Zhang refused to have her photograph taken, the perpetrators again pushed her onto the floor. Some of them bound her feet together, while others bound her arms together; her body was also bound.
They then grabbed her and threw her against the wall. Ms. Zhang's hands became swollen from being handcuffed and, at the same time, she had spasms. The perpetrators themselves said that if they continued to handcuff Ms. Zhang, her hands would become disabled, so they removed the handcuffs and constantly rubbed her hands. When Ms. Zhang's hands seemed a little better they handcuffed her again, as she still refused to cooperate. Yang Duanhua and Wang Chenhai from the Politics and Security Section of the Minhang District Police Department were the individuals who personally tortured Ms. Zhang. Among those who hit her was the one who had interrogated Mr. Lan Bing. When they came into the room and found that Ms. Zhang didn't say anything, they then slapped her in the face. Ms. Zhang kept sending forth righteous thoughts. After a continuous seven days of torture and interrogation, Ms. Zhang was sent to the Minhang Detention Center.
The local Xinzhuang Police Station personnel and people from the Politics and Security Section in the Minhang District Police Department confiscated their personal property. Ms. Zhang refused to sign the list of confiscated items.
After being transferred to the detention center, because she refused to obey the prison rules, such as wearing the prison uniform and reciting the prison rules, the head of the prison grabbed Ms. Zhang's hair, dragged her into the cell, hung her up and handcuffed her to the window's iron grating. She shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" Her voice was very loud and clear and could be heard all over the whole floor. She was hung up this way at all times and wasn't taken down even when she wanted to use the toilet.
To protest the persecution, Ms. Zhang started a hunger strike but was force-fed. Several days later the authorities only agreed to let her down to use the toilet. Thus she was hung up all through the day and even during sleep time. Ms. Zhang had to sleep in a sitting position with her hands cuffed and hung up. Two weeks passed. Because she wouldn't admit that she was wrong, she was still hung up for a long time. On the fifteenth day when the enforcers questioned her again she still didn't compromise. The officials then ordered, "Don't put her down in the evening." Thus Ms. Zhang had to sleep while standing. After suffering these tortures, Ms. Zhang gradually became weak. Her spirit, however, moved the persons who were locked up with her. The last two days when she was hung up, some people cried. But she still clarified the truth about Falun Gong to the people around her.
Seventeen days later a police officer took her down. However, he didn't take off her handcuffs, because he was afraid she would do the Falun Gong exercises; therefore, during the two-months detention period Ms. Zhang was always handcuffed. During this time she gave her money to those who had no money. Some of the police officers and prisoners were moved by what she did. Some people even started practicing Falun Gong through her influence.
In November 2001 Ms. Zhang was sent to the Shanghai Women's Forced Labor Camp and was locked up in the No. 1 Team. She said to team head Yao that forced labor was to reform bad persons while Falun Gong practitioners were innocent and were wronged. She explained that that was why she didn't go to the workshop and didn't participate in forced labor. She didn't obey any of the Labor Camp's orders. On the third day the forced labor camp authorities wanted to hang her up with her hands bound back; this torture method is called "flying an airplane with hands twisted backward," making her body look like the shape of an airplane. She didn't cooperate with them, thus they called more than ten musclemen to handle her. The airplane-shaped back handcuffs hurt her hands tremendously. Since in this torture method the feet barely touch the floor, in mere seconds the hands become bruised. Although Ms. Zhang felt severe pain she didn't cry. Because she realized that she is a Falun Gong practitioner and shouldn't let them persecute her this way, she made a decision that she must turn over. She knew that when her hands lost feeling after a period of time, it would be impossible for her to turn over. Later, to the sound of cracking bones she turned over. She didn't know how she was able to make the effort. The police officers didn't know what to do, although they monitored the process through their monitoring device.
Ms. Zhang was then transferred to the No. 5 Team of the Intensive Transformation Division. Because she refused to say a word there, the perpetrators locked her up with former Falun Gong practitioners whom she had previously known, intending to make her talk. When she saw that the former fellow practitioners were "reformed" at that stage she felt very sad.
No matter what means the evildoers used, she paid no attention to them. She didn't talk, didn't attend their required study sessions, didn't read the slanderous materials and didn't attend any discussion. All the perpetrators managed to do was punish her physically. They made her sit for a long time and later kept her standing for a long time.
Eventually, for no reason, they placed her in solitary confinement. It was severe winter at the time. Every day, they forced her to get up before 5:00 a.m. and go to bed at 12:00 p.m. or later and only gave her a little food. She felt so cold that she trembled. Even having clothes on during sleep didn't help.
She was also forced to sit or stand in the irradiating heat of a sunlamp the whole day. She still didn't say anything and instead smiled. During an inspection the head of the forced labor camp asked the head of the No.5 Team if she was protesting in silence. The team head replied, "She is different from others. She doesn't talk to anybody." Because she saw through the perpetrators' ploy to use of the false realizations of some practitioners to reform other practitioners, she knew they tortured her so severely just to force her to share with those practitioners who went astray.
After over one month's confinement, when the guards asked her about her thoughts she immediately recalled Master's "True Nature Revealed" (Essentials for Further Advancement II). She thus said in a hoarse voice (she had a hoarse voice because of the long term torture), "I will follow Master forever!" The evildoers laughed at her, but they knew that they had no way to reform her. They then considered forcing her to do heavy labor to break her spirit.
A few days later Ms. Zhang was transferred to No. 2 Division, a strictly monitored team in the forced labor camp where drug addicts were confined. The prisoners in the team performed heavy labor. They got up at about 5:00 a.m. and stopped work at 10:00 p.m. every day. Sometimes they were forced to work the whole night. Ms. Zhang never admitted that she was wrong, so the treatment she received was the worst. She didn't do the labor assignment, didn't obey the rules, didn't acknowledge the drug addicts' guard, and didn't write reports; thus she was often punished.
Three people were in charge of the No. 2 Division: Wang, Ge and Mao. Wang and Ge were particularly vicious. The team head Shen Qiaohong, was personally in charge of Ms. Zhang. The team head Shen was quite ruthless. During the two years in a drug-user labor camp, Ms. Zhang went on hunger strikes on two different occasions. Because she didn't follow the camp regulations and was against the unfair treatment, she suffered the torture of "Hanging Up in the Air." Wang and Shen Qiaohong oppressed her intentionally. They used all kinds of methods to torture her. They gave her leftovers for food (leftovers from the day before, or leftovers of the staff) for a long period of time. Even after six days on of one of her hunger strikes, they still made her do heavy labor. When she refused to comply with the head count, they punished her by forcing her to stand for a long time.
Once, when they made up an excuse of her not following rules, Wang and Shen Qiaohong ordered her to be subjected to "Hanging Up in the Air" using a belt. Several convicted criminals dragged her from the workroom on the second floor to the fifth floor. First, they handcuffed her backward on a metal window frame. They waited until Ms. Zhang lost all of the energy she had to defend herself and then used a belt to hang her up in the air. After being handcuffed, Ms. Zhang went on a hunger strike. Shen Qiaohong put an electric baton on Ms. Zhang's mouth and threatened her. Ms. Zhang didn't feel anything, but the perpetrators were afraid of causing her death. They ordered the convicted criminals to force water down her throat. She was hung very high. Her feet were just above the ground. They didn't even let her down when she needed to use the toilet.
To make her give in, they used more severe torture methods. At the same time, they knew that Ms. Zhang was very persistent. The more they tortured her, the more she resisted with all her strength. They knew that she knew her husband was hospitalized at the Tilanqiao Hospital. They ordered a policewoman familiar with psychology to talk to her at night and give her a massage on her body once in a while. (Note: the perpetrators could not reform her using torture methods and decided to be hypocritical as an alternative "soft" reform method together with the torture.)
They hung her from 5 a.m. in the morning to 11 p.m. at night every day. They let her down after 11 p.m. to drink some water. Every night she was handcuffed to her bed and was unable to sleep. On the 3rd day of the hanging she still didn't give in. Wang from the 2nd Division asked a person with a camcorder from the labor camp education section to video her. They demanded she answer questions. Ms. Zhang didn't say a single word to them. When it came to the 6th day of the hanging, Ms. Zhang had become very thin from the abuse. Her wrists were covered with blisters. At the time of her hanging, perpetrators from the 5th Division brought slandering videotapes and materials. They played the videos non-stop and had criminal inmates read the slandering text. On the 7th day she was let down, but was still handcuffed to her bed. The torture continued for 21 days.
There was a regulation in the labor camp: whoever violated the camp rules had to eat by sitting on a small chair. Ms. Zhang thought that this punishment was a humiliation for Falun Gong practitioners and made them lose their human dignity. Therefore, she refused to comply. Ms. Zhang said, "It is not I who does not follow the regulations; I didn't commit any wrongdoing. What do you plan to reform me into?"
The team heads of the labor camp knew that she would never be reformed. During her two and a half years of incarceration, none of them discussed the Falun Gong issue with her but pressured her in other ways. They used all kinds of methods to force her to reform. At the time of her release she didn't sign the reformation statement. Perpetrators said, "That is fine if you don't sign; but we won't let you stay in the labor camp one more day." Just like that, she walked out of the labor camp, openly and nobly.
Not long after she left the labor camp, policemen from the Dachang Police Station, Baoshan City, colluded with personnel from the Lianqian Neighborhood Committee. They often came to Ms. Zhang's mother's home, disturbed their normal life, called to ask about Ms. Zhang's situation and even tried to trick her elderly father, wanting to get some information from him. They even asked her neighbor, Wu Xingfa, to monitor her movements. A policewoman named Wang Hongying from the Dachang Police Station told the parking lot staff to strictly observe her ins and outs and write a report to the police.
Half year after Ms. Zhang's release (in Sept. 2004), she went to the Dachang Police Station and inquired about the issue of residential registration. Deputy police chief Yang detained her by force. He then got people from the 610 Office to interrogate her. Under this circumstance, she sent forth righteous thoughts. One of these perpetrators is named Chen Jiaguo. Another man said that his name was on the overseas "list of perpetrators" so he wouldn't give his name. Ms. Zhang refused to answer any of their questions, so that evening they got a 15 days detention card to put her in detention. Ms. Zhang was handcuffed and sent in a police car to the Baoshan Detention Center. Several people wanted to get more evidence to imprison her. Without any proper documentation they searched her residence and even confiscated all the letters her husband sent to her from jail.
She started a hunger strike at the police station before being sent to the detention center. On the fifth day, guards in the detention center dragged her out and force-fed her. They handcuffed her and also immobilized her with a belt of substantial width (25cm ~30cm or 9.8 in ~11.8in). That was called the Compression Belt carrying a pair of handcuffs. After a female guard force-fed her, she was handcuffed backward onto a metal door. She stood in water in her bare feet. A feeding tube was inserted into her nose. Late at night when a duty guard saw that she was ready to faint, she let her sit down, but she was still handcuffed to the door. It was in October; it was cold at night. She was sitting in water with a feeding tube in her nose. Unable to bear the ache around her hands, she kept moving her hands. The tube punched upwards in her throat along with her movement. She did not sleep for the whole night.
Just like that, when the police came to work the next day, she had suffered torture beyond recognition. The chief guard ordered the handcuffs opened and put a comforter on her. She was unable to speak. She could only write down why she wasn't allowed to sleep, and that her treatment by the guards lacked humanity. She requested the detention center guards to report this to the higher authorities. In the days that followed, she was unable to stand and could only recline on a wooden bunk. Because she was extremely weak she couldn't eat. She barely ate anything in those days.
In the last few days, the Political & Security Division sent a notice to transfer her to be educated in a "Legal and Law School" [a brainwashing center]. She spoke of how their actions were illegal and requested to be released immediately. The policewoman from the Political & Security Division claimed that Ms. Zhang was putting on an act. Many police heard what Ms. Zhang said, "One can beat practitioners to death without taking any responsibility. Countless people have been physically injured. You said you are educated. What did you learn in your study? Are there laws in your eyes?"
When the 15 days were up and it was time to release Ms. Zhang, the local police station personnel didn't notify her family to come pick her up. On the contrary, they dispatched a police car to deliver her to the Legal and Law School for forced brainwashing. People in the car included policemen from the Baoshan 610 Office, Mr. Lin (head of the Dachang Armed Forces Department), Mr. Zhu (member of the Lianqian Neighborhood Committee), Mr. Peng, and others. They accompanied Ms. Zhang to the Legal and Law school, dragged her to the 2nd floor, and threw her on the floor.
She had a fever then. Her face was pale. She continued to send forth righteous thoughts. She asked the "persuading helper," "Is this the Legal and Law School?" The "helper" answered yes. Ms. Zhang then asked if a Legal and Law School teaches law. The "helper" said yes. Ms. Zhang asked again that since the legal and law school teaches law, then it must understand the law the best. The "helper" proudly said yes. Ms. Zhang replied that since it teaches law and understands law, then is it right to say that they were arresting her, because those people took her freedom away and sent her here without any legal documents. She also asked if it was a violation of law for them to arrest her? The "helper" then realized that she said something that she shouldn't have. When the Legal and Law School official arrived, the first thing Ms. Zhang asked was whether she had freedom. The official said that she had.
Even though she had a fever in those days, she continued to tell the "helper" that the arrest was illegal and voiced a strong request to see her family. On the fifth day her parents and mother-in-law came to the Qingpu District where the school was located. She told her family that she had been arrested. When her parents saw her condition, which had been brought about by abuse, they cried their hearts out. They firmly requested her release. Her father had been so worried that he had a stroke a few days earlier. Ms. Zhang assertively requested immediate release. The perpetrators insisted on having her stay. Then, they gave in little by little, attempting to bargain with her, but she didn't accept any of their bargains. People from the city 610 Office, the district 610 Office, the police station, the neighborhood committee, the "persuading helper," the Legal and Law School officials and the school president were all present and witnessed the scene. Finally, they agreed to release her.
A good-hearted "persuading helper" told her to be careful in the future, because the Legal and Law School had never released anyone within five days. She hoped Ms. Zhang's words would become true. Even the "helper" didn't know there were Falun Gong practitioners sentenced for up to ten years in prison. She realized it was wrong to treat Falun Gong practitioners like that in prison as well as in brainwashing centers.
Mr. Liu Fengchun was a "Top-Ten Star Teacher" of the Jilin City Art Education Research Experiment Teaching, a "District Outstanding Teacher," a Teaching Director at the Changyi District Lianhua Elementary School, and a #1 Ranked teacher. He found a new life in Falun Gong. He takes his job very seriously and treats people sincerely. He has also received many awards and honors. However because he remains firm in his practice of Falun Gong, the school authorities forced him to quit teaching and work as a sales clerk and a janitor. Eventually, the school authorities forced him to resign.
Mr. Liu Fengchun |
Mr. Liu attending the Young Teacher Talent and Skill Competition |
Mr. Liu is 31 years old. He was born on March 16, 1974. Since childhood, he has been very fond of music. In 1990, he was admitted to the program for Music Education in the Jilin City Elementary Education. He graduated with an associate degree in 1994. In December 1994, he became a music teacher at the Changyi District #13 Elementary School. In March 1997, he went to teach at the Changyi Art Elementary School. Because he lost his mother a long time ago when he was very young, he was very self-restrained in character, very introverted, and in poor health. After he started practicing Falun Gong in 1998, his entire life changed greatly. He learned in Falun Gong the true essence of life, and became open and bright. He benefited both mentally and physically from Falun Gong, and therefore had endless energy.
More importantly, he uses the principle of Falun Gong, "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" as his guide. Hence, he is not concerned about personal gain and loss. In his work, he whole-heartedly devoted himself to composing music and teaching. In his ten years of teaching music, he had many achievements, and was liked and respected by his colleagues, and students. In March 2002, he was transferred to the Lianhua Elementary School (originally the Changyi District #13 Elementary School) and was appointed the director of music. In his classes, he not only taught his students basic music theory and knowledge, he also taught them to sing and helped them develop their aesthetic abilities through the analysis and appreciation of world-famous musical works along with his own compositions. His students not only understood the beauty of music, but also learned to appreciate beauty in nature, society, and life. In addition, he wrote textbooks and composed music and songs with lyrics. These songs helped his students to purify their minds and develop their wisdom. He also brought musical instruments into the classrooms. This enhanced his students' interest in learning music, and gave them a greater ability to enjoy music.Mr. Liu's accomplishments are many: He received the Elementary and Middle School Outstanding Art Teaching and Consulting Awards from the province, the city, and the district. In the first Jilin City Art Education Research Experiment Class Evaluation, he was given the "Top Ten Star Teacher" award. His research paper won many awards from both the province and the city.
After the persecution started on July 20, 1999, the school authorities frequently attempted to coerce him into renouncing his belief in Falun Gong. At first he firmly resisted. However, after watching the fabricated rumors and the propaganda on TV, and being pressured by various elements of society, he walked the tortuous path and succumbed to the pressure. After calming down, he started to reconsider. He clearly knew that Falun Dafa is good, but under pressure had actually said some things that were contrary to his own will. The huge pain gave him deep inner sorrow. He had benefited so much from Falun Gong. However, when Falun Gong was persecuted, even though he had benefited from practicing, he was unable to clarify the truth for Teacher and for Falun Gong. Although he was originally energetic, he dropped into his old state of being introverted again, along with feeling self-pity, loneliness and pessimistic.
During this most difficult time, Mr. Liu received some truth-clarifying Falun Gong materials, and Teacher's lectures. He then changed himself anew, and once more stepped onto the path back to his original true self. In 2002, Mr. Liu was transferred back to the Changyi District #13 Elementary School (now called Lianhua Elementary School) where he was promoted to Director of Teaching. After that, he again was honored with more awards.
At school, Mr. Liu often clarified truth about Falun Gong to his colleagues in order to help them understand the persecution. He also helped them to understand the magnificence of Falun Gong through his own words and deeds.
Before October 1, 2004, since the higher authorities of Changyi District feared that Falun Gong practitioners would go to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, they set forth some requirements explicitly stating that teachers would not be permitted to practice Falun Gong, and that no one would be allowed to go to Beijing to appeal or to demonstrate. In the meantime, they requested that the principals and the party secretaries of all middle and elementary schools order all of their employees to write "guarantee statements" based on the version the authorities already drafted. The principal of the Lianhua Elementary School, Mou Zongliang, tried to force Mr. Liu to write the statement. He refused. Finally Mou gave Mr. Liu one month to reconsider. During this time, Mou and another principal went to Mr. Liu's residence to urge him to give up his belief in Falun Gong. At the same time, the school authorities also talked to his family members, relatives, and friends asking them to urge him to give up his practice. Yet, Mr. Liu still refused to write the guarantee statement.
Several days later, Mou talked with Mr. Liu again. In order to avoid his influencing the others, Mr. Liu was required to write a letter of resignation.
On the first working day in October after the National Holiday, Mou held a meeting on staff performance and told the administrative members of the school that Mr. Liu practiced Falun Gong. He also made it explicit to the entire school. At the same time, he requested all the teachers present to make a clear statement of where they stood on Falun Gong. Mr. Liu Fengchun also took a stand and said, "I believe what I am doing is correct. I have been open and aboveboard. There's nothing wrong with that. You all know me well and you know my work performance. One should know a matter well before he makes his own judgment..."
Soon after that, Mou in a staff meeting, announced that Mr. Liu's Director position was open. He temporarily arranged for him to work at the school store as a sale clerk, and gave him some other temporary tasks to do for the school. During the school's reorganization period, Mou, the party secretary, Hou Li, and some of the other teachers also repeatedly tried to influence him, but every time, Mr. Liu used these incidents as an opportunity to clarify the truth to them.
At the 2004 End-of-Year annual Staff meeting, in front of everyone, Mr. Liu summarized his performance when he was the director and also after his job changed. At the end, Mr. Liu concluded, "No matter what a person believes in, he should be a good person who can truly consider the welfare of others. In reality, I have achieved this. I believe that a good person will always be good wherever he goes. I will be able to walk on the right path in the future, and I also will certainly be able to walk well on my future path. I am exceedingly appreciative of those who have cared about me and helped me in the past. Thank you very much indeed!" At that moment, some of the teachers at the meeting applauded him.
Afterwards, Mou was extremely unhappy. He withheld Mr. Liu's end of year bonus. Before the winter break, Mou and the party secretary, Hou Li, withheld Mr. Liu's salary card and ID card using the excuse that they could not trust him.
At the end of 2004, because of his practice of Falun Gong, the Changyi District Bureau of Education cancelled Mr. Liu's "famous teacher" qualification. At the beginning of the school year of 2005, they went to talk with him once more trying to coerce him into giving up his Falun Gong practice. However, Mr. Liu was still firm. Furthermore, he asked that his salary card and ID card be returned to him.
Later when the school store was sold, the school authorities arranged for Mr. Liu to do cleaning jobs and some other temporary tasks.
On May 10, 2005, four administrators from the school went to talk with Mr. Liu and expressed their displeasure because he had failed to cooperate with them. They emphasized that Mr. Liu had not conducted himself according to the CCP's request. They told him that if he persisted in practicing Falun Gong, he would either have to resign or continue cleaning the entire school every day, and at the end of the year, he would be reevaluated. If he failed to meet the expectation again, he would automatically be forced to resign. Mr. Liu replied that he had done nothing wrong; yet the school authorities had ordered a well educated, and qualified person to do menial jobs. It was extremely irresponsible behavior.
Because of all the pressure from the school authorities, Mr. Liu has been forced to leave the school. The students have lost a well loved, and superior teacher.

On June 1, 2005, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Wu Zhenxin, a lecturer from the Business School of Wuhan University, and Mr. Huang Keming, associate professor from the School of Business and Statistics, were abducted by personnel from the university and sent to the Hubei Province Tangxunhu Brainwashing Center for persecution.
In December 2004, Chen Zhili, Minister of Education for the Chinese Communist Party, went to Wuhan University and personally ordered all universities across the nation to send those who had not given up Falun Gong practice to brainwashing centers and force them to reform. Her followers at Wuhan University colluded with the Hubei Province 610 Office and budgeted 100,000 yuan to send five faculty members to Tangxunhu for persecution. Practitioners Mr. Wu Zhenxin and Mr. Huang Keming heard about this and went into hiding to avoid being arrested. They left in such a hurry that they didn't even have the chance to tell their families. Later on, practitioners overseas made many phone calls to Wuhan University to clarify the truth to them. Practitioners in Wuhan City also sent forth righteous thoughts specifically to eliminate the evil factors in other dimensions over this incident. These activities have effectively frightened the evildoers and suppressed their arrogance. However, the university personnel did not give up their plan of sending practitioners to the brainwashing center.
Mr. Huang Keming was illegally arrested on the morning of June 1, 2005, but nobody informed his family. It wasn't until 9:00 p.m. that his family members got the information and went to inquire about him. They were told that he had already been sent to the "Legal and Law Education Center" for brainwashing.
This was Mr. Wu Zhenxin's fourth illegal arrest. In the past he was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor and suffered ruthless torture in Hewan Forced Labor Camp in Wuhan, where a policeman urged an inmate to slash his back with a steel bar wrapped with steel wires. This occurred in the summer, and he was only wearing a thin layer of clothing. Mr. Wu said it felt like he had been "split in half" when he was slashed. In December 2004, as mentioned earlier, to avoid arrest, Mr. Wu left home and became homeless for nearly five months. The officials from the Business School at Wuhan University kept putting pressure on his mother to persuade him to come back. They promised that they would allow Mr. Wu to teach classes and would absolutely not give him a hard time.
Mr. Wu Zhenxin returned home on May 8, 2005. On May 31 he received a phone call from the school authorities telling him to come pick up his work assignment on June 1. He went to the school but never returned. Around 2:00 p.m. Mr. Wu's mother received a phone call from the school authorities telling her, "Your son has been sent to the provincial Legal and Law Education Center. The school will have to pay 20,000 yuan every month to the Tangxunhu Brainwashing Center and will have to send two people to accompany him, and they'll suffer, too. Urge your son to give up his practice. As soon as he does that, he can resume his post; otherwise we can do nothing about it. His June 1 arrest is one of many occurring across the nation based on orders from above. It was a secret, group action at 10:30 a.m. Don't come to us; we cannot do anything about it."
This is a completely a new round of conspired persecution from the top down.

The late Mr. Li Maoxun, a retired officer from Dalian City Procuratorate, was a steadfast Falun Gong practitioner. On August 16, 1999, he was detained for 15 days by officials operating outside the law, and sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp on June 16, 2000. He was forced to stay at the Dalian Forced Labor Camp for 14 months. In November 2001, he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage; however he persisted in practicing Falun Gong. His daughter was also sentenced to two years in a forced labor camp. The prolonged and continuous stress caused Li Maoxun's second cerebral hemorrhage, which took his life on March 3, 2005.
Mr. Shi Sanchun, a Falun Gong practitioner, lives at the third division of Shiyue Village, Qingquan Town, Xishui County in Hubei Province. He worked as an electric welder. He has always been honest and kind to others.
At around 8:20 p.m. on June 9, 2005, over twenty people from the Xishui County, Hubei Province, Public Security Bureau arrived in three police vans to Shi Sanchun's home. Wearing plain clothes and with police batons in hand, they broke into his home. Seven to eight police officers cornered Shi Sanchun and beat him. Shi shouted, "Why you are you arresting me?"
At that time, the family had not had dinner. His two children, two nieces and his wife tried desperately to stop the police. Alerted by the sudden screaming, cursing, and crying, several dozen neighbors arrived and witnessed the violence. However, knowing that there were still more police in the van, no one dared to say anything.
Shi Sanchun was suffocating. His face became pale and he could not speak. His hands were twisted behind his back. The police ruthlessly kicked him. He was only wearing shorts at the time. He sustained injuries and was bleeding all over. At that point a group of vicious thugs still forcefully dragged him into their van.
Shi's wife, Hua Li, was also brutally beaten for helping her husband. She had wounds all over. Her hands were twisted behind her back and her legs sustained abrasions.
Shi's son, Shi Ming, was only fifteen years old. He was also beaten by the police. With arms forced behind his back, he was pressed down to the ground, and restrained.
Shi's daughter, Shi Liu, was also pushed and harassed by the police, causing mental devastation.
Shi's older niece was fifteen years old. Trying to stop the police from taking her uncle away, she held on to Shi Sanchun and asked, "Why do you arrest such nice people as my uncle and aunt?" When the police dragged Shi to the police van, she desperately blocked the door of the van. The police forcefully pulled her off and threw her two-meters out of the way. Consequently, she was bruised all over. The police shouted furiously, "We will arrest you too!" She fearlessly replied, "Go ahead! You even arrest students!"
One person among the onlookers could no longer hold back and cursed the vicious thugs in a low voice.
Seeing the principal of her school pass by, Shi's daughter Shi Liu shouted for help, "Principal Zhou, please help!" Ignoring the scene, the principal left in a hurry while Shi Liu sadly cried.
To carry out their abduction of Shi, the group of vicious thugs from the Chinese Communist Party harassed and wounded Shi Sanchun and all five of his family members for over twenty minutes.

Ms. Liu Qingrui, who is in her 60s, is from Haixing County, Cangzhou, Hebei Province. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1996 and benefited physically and mentally from the practice. After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, she was harassed many times by personnel from the Haixing County Public Security Bureau and the 610 Office. In September 2000, the Haixing County Public Security Bureau detained her without legal process for two weeks and extorted several thousand yuan from her because she clarified the truth about Falun Gong. For the past several years, the Haixing County Public Security Bureau and 610 Office have used a number of methods to prevent her from practicing Falun Gong, including intimidation, surveillance and levying fines. Liu Qingrui died on April 8, 2005.
Ms. Wu Huating, 64, was a resident of Kangxi Village, Wu'an City, Hebei Province. After she began practicing Falun Gong in 1996, she became healthy. She also set up a practice site at her home to help fellow practitioners. Since July 20, 1999, she was frequently harassed and threatened by the lawless authorities. She later suffered from paralysis and became bedridden. She died in December 2003.
Mr. Zhang Zengkui, 40, was from Dayulin Village, Shenzhou Town, Shenzhou City, Hebei Province. After he began practicing Falun Gong in 1998, his rheumatic heart disease and stroke symptoms improved for the better. But because of the persecution by Jiang's regime after July 20, 1999, he died from the recurrence of his illnesses on February 15, 2000.
Mr. Che Qinghe was from Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province. He previously suffered from high blood pressure and vasculitis (general term for a group of illnesses involving the inflammation of blood vessels). He also suffered from backache, which kept him from performing heavy work for many years. He began practicing Falun Gong in 1997 and became energetic and free of illness. After the persecution started in 1999, the Qingshan Community of Xiangyang District authorities in Jiamusi City forced him twice to attend a "re-education class" in the brainwashing center. They also forced him to hand in the book Zhuan Falun. Police officers from the Qiaonan Local Police Station of Xiangyang District Public Security Sub-bureau, in Jiamusi City often came to his home and harassed him. Because he lost his environment for practicing Falun Gong and had to endure various kinds of intense pressure, his health deteriorated. He suffered a brain stem hemorrhage and passed away on April 23, 2000.
Mr. Wang Hui was a Falun Gong practitioner from Hengkou Town, Ankang City, Shaanxi Province. He began practicing Falun Gong at the end of 1997. He became almost free of the many illnesses he suffered, including neurasthenia and insomnia. He once said, "I want to steadfastly practice Falun Gong until the last moment of my life!" After July 20, 1999, he was forced to listen to slander and assaults against Falun Gong and its Teacher on the CCP controlled television. He also suffered great pressure. His health rapidly worsened and he died on July 28, 1999.
Mr. Xu Yuliang, 58, was a farmer from Xueli Village, Jiguanshan Town, Fengcheng City, Liaoning Province. He began practicing Falun Gong in March 1997, and his heart diseases from lung disorders were cured without treatment. On July 20, 1999, the lawless people from the town government ransacked his home, confiscated his books and forbid him from practicing Falun Gong. Because of the intimidation he lived under stress, and therefore, his illnesses recurred. He died in October 2000.
Ms. Wang Xianfeng, 40, was detained for a month and fined 2000
yuan for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in November 1999. In
June 2000, the lawless authorities found a Falun Gong book in her home.
She was therefore detained for seven days and fined 520 yuan. Due to
long-term intimidation, harassment and extortion by the local police,
she lived in a very stressful environment. She passed away on November
30, 2002.

In April of 2005, Xuhui Police arrested practitioner Gong Naifang (female), 60 years old, without legal cause. The Xuhui Section of Shanghai was one of the most active and ruthless areas in persecuting practitioners.
The first unlawful verdict against practitioners was rendered in this area. They sentenced practitioners from three to twelve years in prison. Beginning with April 25, 1999, the police of that area began to monitor practitioners. It began after Shanghai practitioners appealed at the People's Square. The Xuhui section police began a large-scale, illegal arrest pattern, detaining practitioners and torturing them during interrogation.
Practitioner Jiang Bing, male, about 37 years old, was severely beaten after his arrest. He was not allowed to sleep for several days and nights in a row.
Practitioner Lan Bing, male, about 38 years old, was not allowed to sleep for seven days and nights. Several high voltage spotlights were used to deprive him of sleep. He was also beaten. He Bingang was kept under a strong spotlight, had his legs beaten with a wooden club, was not given any food, and was tortured. They did not let him sleep for five days and nights. At a later date, he was sentenced to six years in prison.
Nearly all detained practitioners suffered from the same torture, that is, handcuffing to a metal chair and sleep deprivation for several days. Steadfast practitioners were subjected to cruel infusion of liquids, handcuffing to the metal bars on the window for several days, and sleep deprivation. These types of torture were very common in Shanghai.
