  • Ms. Zhan Ye'an from Guizhou Province Was Paralyzed and Died from Torture in a Labor Camp

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhan Ye'an was an employee of the Guiyng City Medical Institute in Guizhou Province. For clarifying the truth about Falun Gong, she was arrested and held in the Guizhou Province Women's Labor Camp. She became emaciated and paralyzed from torture over a long period of time. She was finally sent home because she was dying at the end of May 2005. She died on June 16, 2005.

Ms. Zhan Ye'an was 57 years old. Her employer stopped paying her salary after the CCP began its persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, and they stopped assigning her work. Her husband divorced her, but she was still firmly committed in her cultivation of Falun Gong and always clarified the truth to police and government officials. In August of 2002, she went to Shanghai to visit her family and was arrested while clarifying the truth. Police had her sentenced to three years at forced labor in the Guizhou Women's Labor Camp.

According to eyewitnesses, one day near the beginning of Spring 2003, police allowed Ms. Zhan to walk outside to get some fresh air, but she had no energy to move. She appeared very weak and leaned against the wall with her eyes closed. Prison guard Li Jianying (female) asked if she had had a meal. She did not answer. Her personal cangues [1] said, "She had half a bag of Ramon noodles." Li Jianying cursed Ms. Zhan. Ms. Zhan shouted with all her energy, "Falun Dafa is good!" The drug-addict prisoners quickly ran to her to cover her mouth. They lifted her off her feet and quickly carried her inside.

Ms. Zhan Ye'an was tortured over a long period of time in the Guizhou Women's Labor Camp. She went on a long hunger strike to protest the persecution and was brutally force-fed. Towards the end, she could not take care of herself. She became paralyzed and emaciated.

The prison guards sent her to the Police Department Hospital on the third floor of the camp. She was dying, and the prison guards then sent her home at the end of May 2005. She shouted out with a weak voice upon returning to her home, "Falun Dafa is good!" Less than 20 days later on June 16, 2005, she passed away.

More than one hundred female Falun Gong practitioners were detained in the Guizhou Women Labor Camp in 2003. Ms. Zhan is the third one tortured to death at this camp. The first one was thirty-year-old Ms. Han Ming, an employee of the Pingshui Mechanical Factory in Pingba County. She was beaten by prison guard Gu Xinying (female), tied up by eight guards, had four forced injections of unknown drugs, which caused her muscles to contract and resulted in paralysis of her legs. She died on March 20, 2003. The second one was forty-four-year-old Ms. Zou Qianzhu from Tongren City, Guizhou Province. She was tortured to death on October 22, 2004, and her body was secretly cremated.

[1] There were "open cangues" and "secret cangues" [Note: cangue, the name of an instrument of torture, is now used to indicate a person designated to supervise the behavior of practitioners.]

Falun Gong Practitioners from Chongqing City Ms. Yuan Suxian Tortured to Death and Ms. Liu Fanqin Disabled

Ms. Yuan Suxian was detained in the Dadukou District Detention Center in Chongqing City and was tortured to death on July 30, 2005. Details of her death are unclear, pending an investigation. Another Falun Gong practitioner from Chongqing City Ms. Liu Fanqin has been also detained in the same detention center because she was involved in exposing the rape case of Ms. Wei Xingyan, a graduate student in Chongqing University. Her hands were badly injured during torture, and she has lost the use of her hands.

Ms. Yuan Suxian was about 65 years old. Her hometown was in Second Team, Seventh Village, Zhujia Commune, Yinshan Town, Zizhong City, Sichuan Province. She moved to Minzhu Village, Family Housing of Jiulongpo Construction Limited Corp. She had been serving a one-year sentence at forced labor in the Maojiashan Women's Labor Camp beginning in October of 2001. At the camp she endured numerous hardships. She was under close monitoring by the police after her release.

On January 28, 2005, Ms. Yuan Suxian and her fellow practitioner Ms. Fan Defang were both arrested by police from the Tiaodeng Town Station in Dadukou District and detained in the Dadukou District Detention Center. Their "crime" was that they picked up a flyer that clarified the truth about Falun Gong from the ground and asked some people about it.

Later the police obtained an arrest order and told them, "If you Falun Gong practitioners refuse to give us money, then we will torture you." Ms. Yuan and Ms. Fan both maintained their innocence. They appealed many times for their release to the prosecutor. The prosecutor, however, refused to listen to their appeals and even threatened to have them tortured to death.

These two ladies asked people to tell their families what happened to them and to seek legal counsel. They told their friends that in case something very bad happened to them, they must seek a fair and reliable authority for assistance. They also wrote to the Procuratorate regarding their case.

On July 29, 2005, Ms. Yuan was sent to the hospital when she started vomiting blood and mucous. She died the next day in the hospital.

Ms. Fan Defang is 74 years old. After her detention she was unable to stand and needed assistance even to get to the washroom. On August 1, 2005, the authorities at the detention center were afraid she might die in their custody, so they had her family take her home.

Another Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Fanqin is also detained in the Dadukou District Detention Center. She has been tortured to the point where her hands are paralyzed. She is unable to care for herself and take care of routine daily life. On June 27, 2003, Ms. Liu was tortured and hung up by her cuffed hands, dislocating her shoulders and damaging the nerves and tendons in her arms and shoulders. Her lower spine also was injured. She has been disabled in her hands since the torture. Police have tried unsuccessfully to send her to the Yongchuan Women's Prison. She is currently being held in the Dadukou District Detention Center.

Daqing Prison Responsible for Three Deaths in Three Consecutive Months

On the evening of July 23, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yuan Qingjiang died from long time persecution by wardens in Daqing Prison. This is the third death in the last three months following the deaths of Wang Hongde and Xu Jishan.

In the first half of 2005, Deputy Warden Jiang Shuchen and the 610 Office head Guo Chuntang launched a new round of persecution of practitioners after they came from a meeting in Xi'an. They ordered that all the practitioners who were holding a hunger strike be force-fed with corn curd every two or three days, whether or not it would endanger their lives. In a meeting, Guo announced, "It doesn't matter if it causes them to die." Li Fengjiang of the 7th jail area claimed, "Those who refuse to 'transform' should be sent directly to the crematorium." By the end of May, Xu Jishan had been persecuted to death in 15 days, and Wang Hongde died 15 days after being bailed out for medical treatment.

Mr. Yuan Qingjiang from Harbin City started practicing Falun Gong in June 1997. After the CCP began the persecution, Mr. Yuan was sent to Changlinzi Forced Labor Camp for persecution and was physically abused for a long time. During the People's Congress meetings in March 2003, he was arrested and sentenced. Warden Zhang Jiushan and detainees Guan Dejun and Wang Shijun tortured him and caused severe injuries to his chest. In July 2004 he was transferred to the 6th jail area of Daqing Prison.

After May 1, 2005, the prison aggravated the persecution of practitioners, and over 10 practitioners were forced to hold a hunger strike, for which they were tortured brutally. In early May, Mr. Yuan Qingjiang was tortured for over 10 days, during which he was brutally force-fed.

Dong Fenghuan, the head of the 6th jail area, tortured Mr. Yuan personally. Mr. Yuan then vomited blood and suffered from liver hardening and other illnesses. He was extremely emaciated and had a terrible appearance.

At present, the authorities are still blocking the details of Mr. Yuan's death.

Parents Arrested, Children Detained: the Relentless Persecution of Xin Baodong's Family in Hebei Province

The family of Xin Baodong has come under persecution again. On the morning of July 21, 2005, Sanhe City police, together with Ma Zhixing from the Juyang town police substation, broke into the home of Falun Gong practitioners Xin Baodong and Gao Shuying and forcefully took them away. Xin Baodong escaped by jumping out of the vehicle, while his wife Gao Shuying was detained in Sanhe City Detention Center. Xin Baodong's eighty-year-old father and two children were once again placed in dire circumstances. When Xin Baodong's high school-aged children went to the police station to ask for their parents, the policemen said that they had not arrested them. The police then illegally detained the children. The current situation of the children is unknown.

The family of Xin Baodong and Gao Shuying have been constantly persecuted since the suppression of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999. Baodong and Shuying have been repeatedly detained by the police of Juyang Town and Sanhe City. They both have suffered tremendously from torture. In the spring of 2000, terrorized by police harassment, Xin Baodong's mother was sent to Sanhe City Hospital. The police broke into the hospital and took away Baodong and Shuying, who were taking care of her. They were sent to the city detention center, while Baodong's mother suffered neglect and became paralyzed.

At the end of November 2000, Xin Baodong was sentenced without cause to one year of forced labor. At the Wanzhuang Labor Camp, Langfang City, he was forced to work over 16-20 hours daily, and was physically and mentally tortured.

While Xin Baodong was at Wanzhuang Labor Camp, his wife Gao Shuying was sent to a detention center. She protested the detention through a hunger strike and was released several days later in critical condition.

At the end of 2001, Xin Baodong was released. In the spring of 2002, not long after he returned home, he was arrested again and detained at the police station. Xin Baodong was often beaten by the police and suffered a lot. Once, after Xin Baodong was beaten to the ground, he was wrapped in a cotton blanket and kicked by over ten criminals. Another time, ten criminals grabbed onto his body, lifted him up and threw him down repeatedly. The beating over several days caused severe internal injuries to Xin Baodong, and he could not help but utter muffled sounds, having great difficulty breathing. The head of guards said: "The Falun Gong practitioner intended to make trouble. Pay close attention. If he makes any sound again, just give his head a good kick." As soon as Xin Baodong fell asleep, he was kicked and woken up. He was never allowed to rest. By the ninth day, after a dozen criminals beat and kicked him, Xin Baodong could no longer stand up. The prison police were afraid that he would die and did not dare to take responsibility. They sent him to the city hospital for treatment. Because Xin suffered eight broken ribs and he was in critical condition, the hospital refused to admit him. He was later transferred to a hospital in Beijing. Several policemen were sent to the hospital to monitor the treatment, and they forbade disclosure of any news.

When Xin Baodong's wife Gao Shuying learned that he had been severely injured, she went to the detention center and demanded an explanation. The police did not dare to admit any fault and denied all of her enquiries. At the hospital, Baodong refused to cooperate with the doctors unless his wife was notified. The police had to send Gao Shuying to the hospital. After seeing her husband in critical condition with huge bruises all over his body, she took pictures of him in front of everyone as evidence of the police brutality. The police seized her camera and the film.

Many people from the general public spread the news across the city: "The police is so ruthless!" "Eight ribs broken in nine days." Actually, the tricks that the police used to persecute Xin Baodong were even worse than this. Because the police arrested him without reason and seriously harmed him, they were forced to pay all medical expenses and an additional thirty thousand yuan to Xin Baodong as compensation. Xin Baodong was released unconditionally.

Early in 2003, police began harassing Xin Baodong and Gao Shuying again. The couple could no longer stand such harassment and were forced to leave home. The police mobilized a great deal of manpower attempting to arrest them again. They also harassed their relatives, friends and neighbors. They even employed a long-term surveillance technique, with plain-clothes police officers watching them through binoculars nearby. These tactics greatly frustrated the neighbors. Several months later, the police failed to realize their purpose, so they posted a notice listing the couple as "wanted" and offered a reward.

During these years that the couple has been persecuted, the small store from which the family made a living was often closed. The family's income was seriously affected and they led a very difficult life. Xin Baodong's eighty-year-old father cannot take care of himself, and on July 22, 2003, his mother passed away under the enormous pressure.

By October 1, 2003, although the children of Xin Baodong and Gao Shuying, Xin Ran and Xin Fei were accepted into Sanhe First High School, the authorities of the education committee and First High School used all means to stop them from attending school because their parents practice Falun Gong.

Ms. Mu Xiangjie Validates Hao Fengjun's Exposure of the Persecution with Her Firsthand Experiences

My name is Mu Xiangjie and I live in Tianjin City. I am a Falun Gong practitioner. I read the article "Hao Fengjun's Secret Documents Reveal How the CCP Fears the Nine Commentaries" on the Epoch Times website. I saw my name and birth date matched the one mentioned in the article. I want to simply state my experiences in China.

    Starting to practice Falun Gong

I was born on July 16, 1976. I had a narrow pharynx at birth, resulting in ear problems, such as a sunken eardrum, rhinitis and nasal polyps. My father had liver disease and so did I, and I also suffered from gastroenteritis. Because of these long-term illnesses I was often introverted, lonely, depressed and didn't like to talk. In April 1998 my condition worsened. My eyes were sore, and tears welled up whenever I opened them. My hearing also declined and I had difficulty breathing. I felt weak and went to seven hospitals, but the doctors couldn't find the cause of my illnesses. I went to a Chinese medical doctor but he couldn't help me, either. The doctor told my mother I would eventually lose my hearing. I was bedridden and became more aggressive. I lost faith in life. My family could only afford the basics and could not pay any more large medical bills. They were upset because they couldn't help me. I felt as if the world was filled with suffering, and I was very pessimistic.

In late October 1998, by chance I came across Falun Gong. After I read Zhuan Falun for the first time, miraculous changes took place. I had diarrhea for a whole day and afterward I became very healthy and could walk normally. I felt quite energetic and I could breathe unhindered. I even smiled! My family saw the changes in me and urged me to join the practice site in front of our home. I started to practice Falun Gong and felt extremely fortunate. I regained the courage to live and my worldview changed. I started to look at things with an optimistic mind.

After I started practicing Falun Gong I could live and work normally, and I no longer threw temper tantrums at my family. Before May 1999, I saved three people's lives. One of them was a girl who tried to kill herself after losing her lover, and the other two people collapsed after having a heart attack. Falun Gong changed me into a considerate person.

    Incident at Tianjin Teacher's College

In April 1999, He Zuoxiu published a slanderous article against Falun Gong in the Teenager Expo magazine. I went to Tianjin Teacher's College, the publisher of Teenager Expo, to tell the editors about my experience in practicing Falun Gong and to urge them to publish a correction after learning the truth. On the evening of April 23, 1999, the Tianjin City government dispatched military police, who arrested and beat many practitioners. Four armed police officers grabbed my arms and legs and threw me out of the college. The head of the Tianjin City Police Department lied on the Tianjin City TV Station and said, "The police didn't beat or arrest anyone."

The CCP government started the bloody persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999

The state-run TV news told lies such as, "Falun Gong practitioners quit their practice in droves." On October 8, 1999, I went to Tiananmen Square to do the Falun Gong exercises because I wanted to tell people I was still practicing Falun Gong and that what the TV programs said was untrue. Several police officers grabbed my arms and legs and put me into a police car. Officers from the Shuanghuancun Police Station sent me to the Hongqiao District Detention Center in Tianjin City and held me there for 15 days. During this period, a dozen inmates beat me ruthlessly until I couldn't turn my neck and my head trembled despite myself. I tried to teach the Falun Gong exercises to one girl and the guards savagely beat me for this. They dragged me outside and beat me. That girl was forced to wear shackles weighing about 100 jin [50 kg] in addition to having to endure mental torment. She couldn't bear it and tried to commit suicide but didn't succeed.

On October 28, 1999, I went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was arrested. Officials from the Hongqiao District Police Department beat me and illegally sentenced me to two years of forced labor. I was sent to the Banqiao Women's Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin City.

In early January 2000, I refused to recite the forced labor camp rules and was forced to stand in the snow for one day and night, wearing very thin clothes. I was documenting the persecution facts at the labor camp and was forced to stand for another day and night in the snow, and was also sent to the Strictly Controlled Class. On January 25, two guards and seven inmates beat me for doing the Falun Gong exercises. One guard hit my nose until it was broken. They handcuffed me and threw me in the snow. The guards shocked me with two electric batons. The handcuffs cut into my wrists and left scars that are visible to this day. My little fingers are still numb. After one day they forced me to live in a cold room for six days and nights, during which time I was not allowed to wash myself or sleep. They occasionally gave me a cold steamed bun. My whole body ached and one of my hands became deformed. The skin inside my mouth shed and my teeth came loose. I couldn't stand up and almost had a nervous breakdown.

In mid-February 2000, the guards isolated me and spread rumors about me. I didn't persist with righteous thoughts due to the high-pressure persecution and wrote things I shouldn't have. In August 2000 my family paid some money for my release. I finally escaped from this hell-on-earth.

In August 2000, officer Cui from the Legal Section of the Hongqiao District Police Department phoned my home and ordered me to work as a spy. He threatened me, saying that if I refused, he would have me arrested and torture me to death. I left home at night to escape the persecution and lived on the streets.

In September 2000, I appealed for Falun Gong in Tiananmen Square and was arrested. The police sent me to the Tiananmen Police Department and beat me fiendishly because I refused to get into their car. They beat me until I couldn't move my upper body, except for my arms. I escaped from the police department. On November 18 I unfurled a banner on Tiananmen Square and was again arrested and sent to the Hongqiao Detention Center in Tianjin. I held a hunger strike and was forced-fed. I was illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor.

In January 2001 the inmates and two guards attempted to force me to read Falun Gong-slandering materials. I told them, "Falun Dafa is great. You are not doing yourself any good by making me read this." They fabricated charges against me and beat me. They then forced me to stand for one day and one night. The next morning, they tried to brainwash all the detained practitioners. I said, "Although we are held here, we have the right to speak." The guards ordered several inmates to gag me and drag me into a room. A dozen inmates beat me until I couldn't move my upper body. My mouth bled and I lost consciousness.

After mid-January 2001 I was forced to stand from 6:00 a.m. until midnight daily for two months because I refused to write a repentance statement. The nails on my big toes festered as a result. In early April, they tried to brainwash me and handcuffed my arms and legs to a bed. Two inmates pinned me down and injected me with unknown drugs. I almost lost control of my mind. In late April they held me in a brainwashing class and later transferred me to another class and forced me to do slave labor.

In mid-2001 I was transferred to another class. I refused to be brainwashed and was handcuffed. The inmates wiped their shoes with my clothes and obscenely rubbed my chest with their boots. They spit on my face and stomped on my big toes. They also pinched me all over my body. In May 2001 they held a meeting to slander Falun Gong. I stood up and told them they were telling lies. Several inmates on duty covered my mouth, dragged me off and beat me. In June 2001 they moved me to another class, and the inmates, incited by the guards, forced me to carry over 20 bags of peas. My upper body couldn't move afterwards.

For three years, from 2001 to 2003, the guards often ordered the inmates to watch me and not allow anyone to talk to me. They tried to break me mentally by suddenly hitting my face, not allowing me to go to the restroom, and constantly spreading rumors about me. I was forced to pick peas and slept a mere few hours in four days. A sack of peas weighed from 50 to 80 kg. I was often forced to unload a dozen sacks at a time.

On November 19, 2002, my term was illegally extended by six months. The guards lied and said, "We told her to leave but she refused; she wants to stay here." I clarified the truth to people and was handcuffed for three days and nights. Then I was beaten and handcuffed for a few days and nights because I refused to work.

During the SARS epidemic that began on May 2, 2003, I heard screaming, cursing and beatings late at night. Because I protested the use of violence to "reform" Falun Gong practitioners, I was handcuffed for 55 days straight. During this time they never took the handcuffs off: they didn't allow me to wash, to sleep, or to use the restroom without them. At the same time they brainwashed me. They stomped on and soiled my clothes and didn't let me use the restroom even during my menstrual period. I was severely traumatized, and I cannot describe in words the agony I felt.

On May 20 the authorities extended my sentence by another six months, claiming I had violated labor camp rules. When I was finally released from the handcuffs on June 26, I could not walk. Fearing that I might die, they didn't handcuff me again. During July and August 2003, the guards encouraged inmates Cao Lina and Gong Yuanhe to beat me and not let me write an appeal letter. I insisted on writing the letter, so the inmates scratched my face until it was disfigured. They also scratched the inside of my mouth and yanked out two clumps of hair from my head. When I eventually finished writing the letter, the guards secretly withheld it and didn't send it out. The two inmates were promoted to head of the cell for torturing me.

In August 2003, the labor camp authorities brainwashed me again. In mid-September, the guards said, "From now on, you are no longer a labor camp detainee." Another guard told me, "You can go home now." Yet they didn't show any intention of releasing me until October. On October 7, I walked out of the forced labor camp, but the head inmate brought me back. I tried to run out of the labor camp but they locked the front gate. They grabbed me and beat me and handcuffed me. I said to the guards, "Didn't you say I could go home?" They couldn't answer me. They removed the handcuffs at noon the next day. Someone said to me, "We didn't know the truth until you tried to get out. The guards lied to us from class to class, saying that you didn't want to leave even after they told you to leave."

When I left the labor camp on November 21, 2003, guard Han Jinling ordered several inmates to strip me of all of my clothes and take pictures of me. They wanted to check if there were large scars on my body. They wouldn't have let me go if there were, because they didn't want me to expose the persecution.

Below is further evidence of the persecution I suffered over the past few years due to the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong. The pictures are in chronological order:

Falun Gong pulled me back from the brink of a mental collapse and saved me for the second time

After my release, I could not live like a normal person. I was on the edge of a complete mental collapse and often fainted. I tried my best to control myself. I almost couldn't take care of myself and could not talk much. After reading Zhuan Falun and doing the exercises I was able to talk normally and no longer fainted. It was another miracle. However, the tortures I suffered at the labor camp had severely damaged my body, and I could not work. Many of my family members and friends misunderstood the cause of my abnormal behavior, which made the recovery even more difficult. The CCP government's brainwashing and persecution left me, an ordinary Chinese citizen in pursuit of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, with indelible scars. Many Falun Gong practitioners have been brutally tortured and killed only because they persisted in their belief. After the Cultural Revolution and the June 4 Tiananmen Square Massacre, the villainous CCP government now owes another blood debt.

To Conceal Evidence of Its Crimes, Daqing Prison Blocks Mr. Xu Jishan's Family from Seeing His Body

After Daqing Prison in Daqing, Heilongjiang Province tortured Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xu Jishan to death, the prison repeatedly blocked his family from seeing his body in order to hide the truth about the murder.

Mr. Li Fengjiang, Warden of the 7th Division of Daqing Prison, even said, "We must not allow them (Mr. Xu's family members) to see his body. What if they take photographs of his body and use them as evidence to prosecute us?"

Out of Mr. Xu Jishan's family members, only his older brother was allowed to take a quick glance at the body on June 8, 2005 under the watch of prison guards. All other family members were made to wait outside. Daqing Prison has even ordered the Long'nan Hospital morgue to immediately notify the prison if Mr. Xu's family asks to see the body. No one was allowed to see his body without the prison's permission or supervision.

On the morning of June 17, 2005, Mr. Xu Jishan's ex-wife was asked by Mr. Xu's older brother to go pay respects to Mr. Xu's body in the morgue in Long'nan Hospital in Daqing. However, the staff at the morgue denied Mr. Xu's ex-wife the right to see the body, and immediately called Li Fengjiang, Warden of the 7th Division of Daqing Prison.

Li Fengjiang was very unreasonable and abrasive over the phone. He even called the morgue back right away three times to tell them not to let Mr. Xu's family see the body. Mr. Xu's ex-wife and family members then gave the fruits they had brought to the staff and asked them to put them on an offering table in front of Mr. Xu's body, but the staff dared not oblige. The family had no choice but to leave the morgue.

On the morning of July 5, 2005, Mr. Xu's ex-wife and friends came to the morgue again, hoping to see and pay respects to Mr. Xu's body. The staff immediately called Li Fengjiang again. Li told the morgue, "They all practice Falun Gong. They must never see his body. What if they take photographs and use them as evidence to prosecute us?"

Three minutes later, Li Fengjiang came to the morgue with three men. As soon as he entered the door, he asked fiercely, "Which of you is Mr. Xu Jishan's ex-wife? Didn't you divorce him already? Why are you making a scene here?" He looked at Mr. Xu's friends and asked them fiercely, "What do you do for a living? Show me your identification!" He pointed at an older man and said, "Who do you think you are? You are not entitled to speak to me!" Then he started shouting, "Wait and see how I take all of you Falun Gong practitioners out! Call 110 (equivalent to 911 in the United States) and have all of them arrested!" Then Li Fengjiang called the hospital's security, 110 and the local 610 Office. He reported to them, "There is a group of Falun Gong practitioners making trouble at the Long'nan Hospital morgue. Come here at once."

Soon eight men from the hospital's security came and interrogated Mr. Xu's ex-wife and friends. Five minutes later, two vehicles arrived and a group of policemen in civilian clothes ran into the morgue. A prison guard who arrived with Li Fengjiang saw that a woman who was with Mr. Xu's ex-wife had an audio recorder in her hands and tried to grab it from her. The woman questioned him, "This is my personal belonging. You have no right to take it from me." A policeman in civilian clothes tried to grab a man and force him into the police car. Three women saw what the police were doing and tried to stop them. The police took all four of them back to Daqing Security Bureau's Ranghu Road Branch and interrogated them. The police didn't release them until they had obtained their names and addresses.

The only logical explanation of the fact that Daqing Prison would stop at nothing to prevent Mr. Xu Jishan's family from seeing his body is that they were concealing the prison's crime of murder from the world.

    Heilongjiang Women's Prison Persecutes Practitioners

On March 24, 2005, many Falun Gong practitioners in Heilongjiang Women's Prison were forced to give blood. Warden Zhao deceived the practitioners by gathering them together for a "meeting." He arranged for about 25 prison guards and 10 inmates to oversee the blood collection procedure. They threatened everyone that resisted.

The following are some individual cases of persecution in Heilongjiang Women's Prison from March to June 2005.

Mrs. Wu Yulang, 65 years old, has been isolated on the third floor for "transformation" since December 2004. The guards have repeatedly beaten her and forced to sit on a bench for long periods of time. Because she continues to practice Falun Gong, she has been repeatedly hung from a double bed, with only a toe touching the ground. She is currently still under persecution.

Mrs. Huang Yanzhen, 60 years old, was repeatedly wrapped up in a blanket and savagely beaten. This way the guards would not leave any visible trauma.

Mrs. Xiao Shufen, 60 years old, has a history of hypertension. She has been in solitary confinement since February 2005.

Mrs. Li Yushu, from Mohe, has been resisting the persecution. To protest, she has been on a hunger strike for 10 months. She is currently tied down to a bed and her mouth is sealed.

Ms. Zhang Dan, 24 years old, was beaten until she passed out because she refused to sign her name on the "transformation" paper and refused to squat. The prison guards signed the paper with her fingerprint while she was unconscious. After coming to, she declared the paper invalid and received intensified persecution as a result. Now she is lame, her nerves have been damaged, and her armpits have open sores. The prison guards prevented her from exposing the persecution to her family when they visited her at the prison.

The main method used in June in the Helongjian Women's Prison was intensified brainwashing. The vicious guards formed a surveillance group to isolate practitioners and force their "transformation." They even sealed the windows. Warden Liu Zhiqiang has claimed he would not use torture methods and would not transform anyone by force, but he has intensified the covert persecution and has confiscated all the appeal letters.

These are the Falun Gong practitioners illegally held and persecuted: Zheng Jinbo, Du Chunxiang, Mu Xiaolu, Tan Fengying, Ren Xiuying, Wang Xiuyue, Ni Shuzhi, Pan Hua, Lu Hongfang, Gao Shuyun, Cao Yingchun, Zhang Xiuzhi, Sun Huifeng, Ma Fenglan, Zhao Yalun, Shi Shuyuan, Wang Liping, Wu Lijun, Zhang Guiqin, Zheng Liping, Guo Fenglan, Chu Xiulan, Gao Ruoying, Zheng Guiqin, Liu Wenjun, Huang Yanzhen, Xiao Liulan, Li Guiying, He Shuying, Shi Yuxia, Lin Chunzi, Lou Xuming, Wang Shufeng, Tao Yajun, Li Guizhi, Zhang Yan, Du Fenghua, Guan Shuyun, Lu Shuqin

The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Shanghai Women's Jail

Shanghai Women's Jail, also known as Songjiang Women's Jail, is located in Sijing Town, Songjiang District of Shanghai, and consists of two 5-floor buildings in the southeast direction. There are 5 groups in it. The first group is in charge of logistics and is for the elderly and disabled detainees. The second group is for newcomers, all of whom have to be trained for 3 months and then are distributed to other groups. The third and the fourth groups are forced labor teams. There, the detainees have almost no chance to sleep, and it is where the guards boast, "The beds have nothing to do."

The fifth group is exclusively designated for detaining Falun Gong practitioners, where the conditions are worse than that of the criminals awaiting execution. All of the practitioners are detained on the fourth floor of the one building. The east side is the strict-disciplinary area, while the south side of the floor is the loose-disciplinary area; a partition separated the two sides. In each area there are 11 wards, each measuring approximately 18 square meters and each with 12 beds. All of the activities of Falun Gong practitioners are strictly limited to that floor.

The persons in charge of "managing" practitioners are: Hou Ruiqin, head of the group, Yan Shiping, deputy head, and team leaders Zhang Yongmei, Qiu Minying (both of them came from Tilanqiao Jail), Shu Lei and Chen Yaoyuan, and group leaders Chen Yao and Xu Ying. Their so-called "management" of Falun Gong practitioners consists of continuous abuse and torture.

Every detainee will experience "military training" according to the jail regulations. They are forced to line up and stand in military postures outdoors until they are exhausted. If they cannot do the training, they are forced to copy out the regulations deep into the night and are not allowed to go to bed. The newcomers will have to read materials and watch videotapes that slander Falun Gong, and are monitored by the criminals.

The cruel jail director also stirred up hatred to force the practitioners to be "reformed". Under such circumstances, the practitioner who is determined in practicing Falun Gong will be isolated in a ward with 4 to 5 criminals that are ordered to torture her. Every action of the practitioner, including turning over in bed or an expression in her eyes, would be under surveillance. If she is still steadfast, she will be locked up in confinement for further persecution.

The confinement is done with a small cage of less than 3 square meters and without airflow. In cold or hot weather, the detainee is not allowed to take a shower or drink water, even in extremely hot weather. They are only allowed a small amount of water to clean the body. In the loose-disciplinary area on the south side, the detainees have a limited number of bathroom breaks.

At the east strict-disciplinary area, the Falun Gong practitioners are forced to get up at 5:00 a.m. and are forced to sit quietly or stand until 11:30 p.m., as stipulated by the jail director. Actually, most of the vicious criminals try to extend the time for as long as possible so that the practitioners have little chance of sleeping. If the practitioners still refuse to be "reformed", they will be taken to the third or fourth group for forced labor.

In China, there are prison laws to protect detainees, but the employees at Shanghai Women's Jail never comply with them. They abuse and torture the detainees at will. The jail director profits greatly from the forced labor in spite of the fates of the detainees who cannot endure the overloaded work quota. One time, a prisoner told her mother during a visit, "Mom, I may not survive until my release. Please reserve a grave nearby for me!"

Below is an incomplete list of the Falun Gong practitioners detained in Shanghai Women's Jail:

<>Yang Jie, Li Feng, Yang Manyu, Shen Zuying, Qin Hongxian, Dai Zhiying, Li Weiling, Song Jinhua, Liu Xiangshu, Wu Xiaofeng, Yu Peiying, Liu Wenying, Gao Lindi, He Meiyun, Liu Jin, Lou Chengying, Jiang Linying, Xiong Ling, Zhang Qiusha, Bao Wenzhen, Yang Jin'e, Wang Zhiping, Li Limao, Li Shangfen, Xiang Jian, Gu Jihong, Fan Yong, Wang Xuefei, Practitioner Song.
