[Editors' Note: This is a 16-year-old boy's heartfelt desire to be reunited with both of his parents. Because Xiao Lei's parents practice Falun Gong, the Chinese police have repeatedly arrested them and thrown them into prison, where they have been subjected to many types of gruesome torture. Xiao Lei's parents were taken away from him at the age of eleven.]

My name is Xiao Lei. I live in No. 5, Unit One, Building No. 2, Wenmiao Small District, Kaifeng City, Henan Province, China. My father's name is Wu Guangcheng. He used to be the Secretary at the Kaifeng City Real Estate Company. My mother's name is Wang Deping. She used to be the supervisor of the Kaifeng City Highway Maintenance Bureau.

My parents used to be tormented by illnesses. My father suffered from cirrhosis and was often admitted to the hospital. Every year the medical expenses exceeded 10,000 yuan. My mother used to have kidney stones in both kidneys and had to take medicine daily. In July 1997, shortly after they started practicing Falun Gong, their illnesses disappeared and their health was restored. Their doctors were amazed by the miraculous health improvement.

But our peaceful and happy family was ruined after Jiang Zemin banned Falun Gong in July 1999.

One evening in November 2000, my mother's work supervisors came to our home and tried to coerce her to hand in her resignation. I was present and witnessed everything. At the time I was only eleven years old, and I couldn't comprehend why they had to do this to my mother. A few days later, my mother traveled to Beijing and attempted to appeal to the State Appeals Office for the injustice she had suffered. However, the police denied her constitutional right to appeal and imprisoned her in Fengrun Detention Center in Tangshan, Hebei Province. A month later, she was transferred back to Kaifeng and sentenced to three years in Shibalihe Women's Forced Labor Camp in Zhengzhou, Henan Province without a legal trial. When the leaders at my mother's workplace went to Tangshan to transfer her back to Kaifeng, they stole every penny of my mother's bank savings, totaling 5,310 yuan, with the excuse of compensating their traveling expenses. Later, my father repeatedly demanded that they return the money they had stolen from my mother's bank account, but they only returned 1,300 yuan.

In 2000, my father was fired from his job because he refused to give up practicing Falun Gong. Nevertheless, my father continued his Falun Gong practice. Later, the local police kidnapped him and imprisoned him in Kaifeng City Detention Center for several months because he clarified the truth about Falun Gong to people. In December 2000, my father went to Beijing and attempted to appeal for Falun Gong, but the Beijing police arrested him and subjected him to brutal beatings. The police repeatedly slammed the door on my father's fingers and caused all of his fingernails to fall off. Later he was sentenced to two years in the Kaifeng City Forced Labor Camp without any legal trial. Thus both of my parents were taken away from me. I was left at home without my parents. My neighbors avoided talking to me, afraid of the possibility of being labeled "guilty" by association with my family.

In January 2003, my father was finally released. My father and I finally reunited. Never had I expected that just two months later the Beishudian Street Police Precinct would come and take my father from home. At first they put him in Kaifeng City Detention Center. Then they arbitrarily sentenced him to one year in Kaifeng City Forced Labor Camp without any legal trial. I was left home alone again without my parents.

Every day that passed, I eagerly anticipated my parents returning home. I know my parents are the best people in the world, but they have been subjected to the worst treatment and torture. I longed for my parents' love and affection, but it might be just wishful thinking.

In August 2003, my mother was finally released, but I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw her. My mother's eyes were sunken and she had lost so much weight that she had become skin and bones. She could not even walk on her own. She weighed about 154 lbs before she was imprisoned, but now she weighed only 87 lbs. Was this woman really my mother? I was so shocked that I could not speak for a long time.

Nevertheless, I was contented to be able to reunite with my mother. After a period of time, my mother was finally nursed back to health. However, we did not have any income. My mother went to her former work organization and asked them to reinstate her, but her request was denied because she refused to renounce Falun Gong in writing. My mother had no choice but to find a part-time manual labor job despite the fact that she was still significantly underweight and very frail. She took on a second job selling bread and buns on the street. Although it was difficult for my mother to put meals on the table, we were contented just to be living with each other. Meanwhile, my mother and I eagerly anticipated my father's return when my whole family could be reunited again.

Unfortunately my small hope was soon crushed. In February 2004, the police from Beishudian Street Police Precinct of the Longting Police Branch Bureau arrested my mother from home. They broke into our home and left nothing unturned. They even broke down the steel anti-burglary door. They arbitrarily sentenced my mother to another two years in Shibalihe Women's Forced Labor Camp in Zhengzhou. My heart was broken. My parents have been repeatedly taken away from me and thrown into the hands of torturers from hell. It has been six long years. When will my parents and I ever be able to reunite again?

In March 2004, shortly after my mother was taken away from me, my father was finally released. Looking at my father's withered frame and prematurely aged face, I knew right away my father must have suffered a lot of torture.

I cherished the precious time I spent with my father and we eagerly anticipated reuniting with my mother. But a few days ago, my father disappeared! When I came home, I noticed signs of forced entry and burglary. I began to panic and tried to look for clues of my father's whereabouts, but no one was able to help me. Finally I heard that Kaifeng City State Security Bureau had taken my father and locked him up in the Kaifeng City Detention Center. I went there and tried to find him, but they wouldn't tell me anything. Where is my father? What has happened to him? No one told me anything.

Why have these horrible tragedies happened to my family? My mother is imprisoned for the second time and my father is missing. I have been living helplessly in terror and suspense all day long. At this young age, I have already experienced the most insufferable and unimaginable magnitude of pain and suffering. I have witnessed honesty, kindness, and tolerance in my parents, the most revered traditional Chinese virtues. My parents want nothing but to practice Falun Gong and follow Falun Gong's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to become better people, but they have been repeatedly subjected to imprisonment and torture. Why must the Chinese Communist regime do this to them?

I hereby urge everyone around the world to help end this senseless persecution and help bring my parents back!

Attachments: Brief Summary of the Persecution against Mr. and Mrs. Wu Guangcheng

Mr. Wu Guangcheng is 45 years old. His home address is No. 5, Unit One Building, No. 2 Wenmiao Small District, Kaifeng City, Henan Province, China.

In 2000, the local police in Kaifeng City, Henan Province arrested Mr. Wu and imprisoned him in Kaifeng City Detention Center for several months because he clarified the truth about Falun Gong in public. At the end of 2000, Mr. Wu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, but he was unlawfully arrested and ended up being imprisoned in Kaifeng City Forced Labor Camp for two years. He was released in January 2003, but was unlawfully arrested again in March 2003 and imprisoned in Kaifeng City Forced Labor Camp for another year. He was released in February 2004. Between July 8 and July 9, 2005, the police arrested Mr. Wu and some other Falun Gong practitioners. It has been verified that Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Zhenying is now imprisoned in the Xinhua Hotel across from the People's Hospital in Kaifeng City. However, Mr. Wu Guangcheng's whereabouts require further investigation.

Ms. Wang Deping, the wife of Mr. Wu Guangcheng, is 44 years old. In 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice Falun Gong and as a result was imprisoned in Fengrun Detention Center in Tangshan, Hebei Province. She was transferred to the No. 1 Women's Forced Labor Camp (Shibalihe Women's Forced Labor Camp) in Henan Province in 2000 and detained for three years. In August 2003 she was released. In 2004 she was arrested again for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to the local people. In March 2004 the police arrested her again and sentenced her to two years in Shibalihe Women's Forced Labor Camp.

Jiang Guilin

On August 9, 2005, when Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Jiang Guilin was distributing truth clarifying materials, someone reported him to the police in Jinzhu Township Police Station. The police brutally beat Mr. Jiang and tried to find out the source of the materials. Jiang did not answer any of their questions. As a result of the beating, Jiang's teeth loosened and blood covered his pants and hat (see picture below).

Afterwards, Jiang's wife, Mrs. Liu Mingwei, took his bloody pants and hat to the department above the police station, the Jilin City Longtan Branch Police Department, and other related organizations to complain about the police treatment and asked for the immediate release of Jiang.

Mr. Jiang Guilin, 61, was formerly a staff member of the Jilin City Water Company. Jiang suffered from severe hepatitis B, neurological pain, nephritis, heart disease and hemorrhoids before he practiced Falun Gong. He felt lightheaded every day. In May 1996, Jiang and his wife, Mrs. Liu Mingwei, who was weak and sick, started to practice Falun Gong at the same time. Through the practice, all of their illnesses were healed and they subsequently felt happy and energetic.

At 4:00 p.m. on August 9, 2005, after Ms. Liu learned about her husband's arrest, she went to the Jinzhu Township Police Station to request his release. Captain Guan was very rude and unreasonable. When Liu asked Guan why they arrested Jiang, Guan said, "Of course, we had evidence before we arrested him." When Liu asked to see the evidence, Guan forced Liu to leave her name and address (a threat that Liu may be harassed later). After Liu repeatedly asked for Jiang's whereabouts, Guan told her that Jiang was being held in the Jilin City Detention Center.

At 8:00 p.m. on August 11, 2005, Liu and other family members went to the Jinzhu Township Police Station and asked the station chief, Guo Yuhai, and supervisor, Zhang Yufeng, to let the family take Jiang home. Chief Guo Yuhai's attitude was very unpleasant and he asked Liu who she was. Liu told Guo she was Jiang's wife and asked why the police beat Jiang. Guo said that Jiang fell and hurt himself. Liu said, "He fell because of you." Guo had nothing to say. When Liu and the family asked who beat Jiang and who was in charge of the case, Guo evaded the question and did not answer. Liu and the family eventually said, "If you still treat us like this, we'll file a complaint against you." Supervisor Zhang Yufeng immediately forced them to leave and said, "You can complain anywhere you want."

In September 1999, Jiang and Liu went to Beijing to appeal and clarify the truth about Falun Gong. Police from Beijing's Miyun County arrested them, and officers from Jilin Liaison Office in Beijing illegally forced them back to Jilin and detained them in Jilin City's Chuanying District Brainwashing Center. They steadfastly practice Falun Gong and refused to be "transformed," so they were sent to a detention center. Two weeks later, the officials were afraid that they would go to Beijing again, so they sent them back to the brainwashing center and further persecuted them. They refused to cooperate and were later sent back to the detention center. After being arrested and detained several times, they still insisted on practicing Falun Gong.

In 2000, police from Chuanying District's Zhihe Police Station broke into Jiang's house and arrested him. The police confiscated his television and VCR, and unlawfully sentenced him to two years in Jilin City's Huanxiling Forced Labor Camp. While in the Huanxiling Forced Labor Camp and facing brutal persecution, Jiang never compromised with the officials. After serving the two years, Jiang went home in a dignified manner. Meanwhile, Ms. Liu was illegally laid off by the Jilin City Water Company and was brutally tortured in the Jilin Province Heizuizi Women's Prison. Jiang had no job and was forced to live with his relatives in Jiangbei Township, Jilin City.

Eight months later, the Chinese Communist Party was going to have its 16th People's Congress. Police from the Jiangbei Township went to the home of Jiang's relative and tried to coerce him to give up Falun Gong. Jiang refused firmly. The police sentenced him to one year in Jiutai's Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp. He was brutally tortured in the forced labor camp but never cooperated. To resist the persecution, Jiang shouted, "Falun Dafa is good" in the Yinmahe Forced Labor Camp. He went home not long after that.

Jiang has again been arrested and imprisoned, and Liu is making a great effort to demand his immediate release.

The Hehuakeng Labor Camp in, Tangshan City employs a torture method called the Sitting Board. The board they use is about 10 cm wide by about 10 cm thick. Practitioners are forced to sit in one position, from 5 a.m. in the morning to 8 p.m. at night. Other than two restroom breaks of (5 to 10 minutes each), practitioners have to stay stationary in the one position.

After a few days of sitting like this, pressure sores or ulcers begin to form on the victim's' buttocks. After an extended period of such torture, blood flow to the lower extremities is impeded. Practitioners will lose control over their bladder and/or bowels. Later, practitioners are unable to urinate or move their bowels. The groin, testicles and perineum can become severely ulcerated and infected.

From 2001 to 2003, the practitioner in this photo was tortured at the Hehuakeng Labor Camp in, Tangshan City. The sitting board torture almost killed him. When he was near death,, the labor camp secretly sent him home. After several emergency rescues while under family members' care, he survived, but 'he is still seriously handicapped by urinary, intestinal and sexual dysfunction,.

Sitting Board

Each day, practitioners must put their hands in their laps, keep their, backs straight, and sit on the bench for 18 hours. This torture method may be used continuously for more than fifty days. The authorities limit the practitioners' restroom use. Because of the long duration spent sitting on hard benches, practitioners develop large, painful sores on their buttocks. Some practitioners cannot urinate properly because of the pain. Also, the labor camp environment is very damp, but the police refuse to allow the practitioners to have fresh air or sunlight. ,Practitioners have been locked up for so long that, they developed red scabies over large parts of their bodies, causing painful itching. The Chinese Communism Party (CCP) deprived a mother and her son of the right to get their social identities (ID cards) just because she practices Falun Gong. Her 20-year-old son is presently unable to get a job and has been suffering the consequences of this action.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Mou Yongxia from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province is 57 years old. She is an excellent middle school teacher. Because she firmly insists on practicing Falun Gong, she has been detained in the local detention center and the psychiatric hospital, where she has experienced brutal persecution. Daqing City ordered the police from the district branch to implicate her son in this matter. For more than a year the authorities have revoked their social identities.

Before Ms. Mou started practicing Falun Gong, she was very weak. For a long time she was unable to find a cure. From the time he was 4 years old, her son accompanied her to see doctors. He also did housework. When, due to heart disease, his mother was unable to eat normally, he would make rice soup and take it to her bedside. He also brought her basins of water for her to wash her feet. Since the age of 5, the son has been able to cook meals. When he was 9, his mother became paralyzed. Not only could she not play with him, but also he sometimes had to help her get up. With one arm around her waist, he held his mother's other arm and put it on his shoulder. In this way one of her arms would hold his neck and use him as a crutch. He wished that his mother could walk, but she couldn't.

One day, she started to practice Falun Gong. Without taking even a bit more medicine, she recovered. Her son was so happy. However, six months later the practice was banned. Because his mother refused to renounce Falun Gong, after another year, she was forced to stop working, and their financial situation has since been very difficult. The son said, "Mom, don't worry. When I grow up I'll earn the money to support you!" After another year passed, his mother was arrested and detained for half a year. His father married another woman, and the maternal grandmother passed away in sorrow. The family was broken apart. After that, the son worried a lot. In the past he was an excellent student who even skipped a grade. Yet amid such a personal disaster he could not continue his studies.

In recent years, all the son has wanted to do was to work and earn some money to support his and his mother's basic living costs. However, as all employers ask for a social identity, he could not find a job. He was very worried and wept in despair. On June 3, 2005, his mother tried to get her social identity back again. However, not only did the police not give her the ID, they even arrested her. At the same time, the police confiscated her wallet, which had 600 yuan in it, her cell phone and other personal belongings. They detained her in Daqing Detention Center and punished her by making her sit on a metal chair for an extended period. She lost consciousness for an entire day because of the torture. When she was bailed out of custody, her whole body had black and purple bruises, and she had to be looked after by relatives and friends.

The police did not reinstate their social identities and took away the certificates that they needed to get their IDs (receipts of purchase and sale of their houses, etc.) When the son went to obtain the ID, they still gave him trouble. Now the son is so worried that his throat aches and he finds it hard to eat.

We ask all kind-hearted people to help them, and call upon the Chinese authorities to stop involving families of Falun Gong practitioners in the persecution, give Ms. Mou Yongxia and her son their social identities, and stop disturbing their lives.

Cruel Torture Received by Mr. Gao Shulin

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Gao Shulin is 47 years old and an employee of the Xuanhua Steel Company in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. Once he pushed a bike onto the street, with the bike holding a sign that read, "The Tiananmen Self-Immolation Was Not Done by Falun Gong." For this action he was detained in the Xuanhua Detention Center, where guards encouraged prisoners to nail matchsticks under one of his fingernails, causing his finger to swell and turn purple-green in color.

Mr. Gao was detained in the East 1-5 Cell in the Xuahua Detention Center. About ten cellmates took turns beating or kicking him, which caused injuries all over his body and led him to suffer a nervous breakdown. His right leg suffered blows that created two huge swollen bumps that were very hard. He was unable to sit comfortably. Mr. Gao was released after suffering a mental breakdown.

One and half months later, Mr. Gao Shuin was detained in the detention center again. His finger now appeared milk-white in color after the nail had fallen off. After being detained for 45 days, he was sentenced to two years of forced labor.

Mr. Guo Zhengqing Inhumanly Tortured

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Guo Zhengqing is 43 years old. On April 25, 2001, he unfurled a 2.3 foot wide banner that read, "Falun Dafa is Good!" from a bus passing through Tiananmen. The crowd cheered for his courageous act. After being arrested and locked inside a police vehicle, he shouted through the window to the people outside, "Falun Dafa is good!" A policeman beat him on the face with a three foot long baton, causing his nose to bleed profusely. Seven to eight young policemen tried to tie him up with a thick rope, but the rope was broken in two pieces, and they could not cuff him no matter how they tried. He was brutally beaten many times after having been escorted to Xuanhua Detention Center, and he once passed out for three hours due to the beatings. He would only be able to fall asleep for about one hour at a time due to the severe pain all over his body.

In November 2002, at the time when Mr. Guo Zhengqing was transferred to Hebei Province's Shijiazhuang Fourth Prison, his legs and feet were deformed. His feet were twisted outward, making it impossible to wear shoes and difficult to walk at all; his hands were also injured and deformed. He continued to be beaten in the Fourth Prison. In March 2003, he was tortured at an "attacking class," where resolute practitioners are tortured. He was not allowed to sleep for eight straight days, and he passed out for several hours on the last night.

Although his right leg is now disabled, his solid faith in Falun Gong has never changed. He said, "The government beats healthy people to disability. Falun Gong is saving practitioners from countless calamities. Without Master and Falun Gong's salvation, people could not withstand such a disaster."

Mr. Guo Zhengqing reported that a female Falun Gong practitioner employed by Xuahua Steel Company, 41 years old, name unknown, went on hunger strike in a detention center in Beijing. She was later transferred to Xuanhua Detention Center and killed during force-feeding within several days, between the end of March and the beginning of April 2003.

Another Falun Gong practitioner who did computer printing was detained in the Wei County Detention Center. The thumb, middle, and ring fingers on his left hand were inflicted with the "Digging in Bamboo Sticks" torture (1), and his lower chin was broken after being kicked.

(The police hammer sharp bamboo sticks into the fingers of the practitioner through the tips of the fingernails. In the process of the hammering, the fingernail will be completely torn off. As one's exposed fingernail beds are extremely sensitive, the hammering process causes excruciating pain. The police begin by hammering the bamboo stick into just one finger. If the practitioner still refuses to allow his will to be bent, the police will then hammer bamboo sticks into more and more fingers until they have brutally mutilated all ten fingers.)

Ms. Guo Qinglan, 57 years old, lived in Tianjin. In 1994 she found out that she had cancer of the mammary glands and one of her breasts was removed. The doctor said that she would only live for another 8 months. Luckily, she had a chance to practice Falun Gong, she gained very good health and recovered completely. She was very grateful and steadfast in practicing Falun Gong. In April 1999, because some scientists slandered Falun Gong, she went to the Tianjin Education College to clarify the truth about Falun Gong. On around July 20, 1999 she went with some practitioners to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong . She was arrested and sent home by officials. No matter how the police and families interfered, her determination to practice never changed. The police went to her house to harass her many times, and each time she told them that Falun Gong was great, that Falun Gong had given her a second life. However, due to the constant harassment and interference by police, her family started to feel afraid and then they were made to cooperate with the police. This caused Guo Qinglian to have a relapse of her old ailment. She died in November 2001.

Ms. Zhang Siuyin, 61 years old, was retired from the financial department of the First People's Hospital in Bin County, Hunan Province. She began to practice Falun Gong in 1996. She was always in very good health. Her family was very frightened by the horrible persecution, which started on July 20 1999, and they tried very hard to dissuade and even prevent her from practicing. In October 1999 she and several other practitioners went to Beijing to appeal. They were illegally arrested by police at the train station in Bin County, and were sent to a detention center. In a damp and chilly jail, they were treated inhumanely, suffering from all kinds of threats, intimidation, force feeding and other forms of torture and persecution. Thus Zhang developed the symptom of a recurring cough. Her family spent 5000 yuan to bail her out and await trial. They forced her to stop practicing the exercises and to not read Zhuan Falun, and her cough became worse and worse. She went to the hospital for a checkup and the diagnosis was lung cancer. The hospital promised her family that her sickness could be cured, but after 9 months Zhang Xioyin passed away.

Mr. Yang Xuezhi retired from a water treatment facility in Jiajiang County, Leshan City Sichuan Province. He went to Beijing in the year 2000 to appeal for Falun Gong, and he was arrested and sentenced to two years in a labor camp. In 2002, after he came home from the labor camp, he continuously clarified the truth to other people and appealed for Falun Gong. In February 2003, once again he was detained by the authorities, and endured all kinds of torture by the police and others. In March 2003, an official called his family to pick him up and take him home. Two days later, Mr. Yang died.

Ms. Luo Fengying, 36 years old, a farmer from Qinge Village, Suji Town, Leshan City, Sichuan Province, began practicing in 1999. Afterwards, many of her sicknesses disappeared. However, after the persecution began, she was illegally detained for 15 days. Later, local 610 Office personnel and Suji town police often confiscated items from her house, and they constantly threatened and terrorized her, which resulted in her death in June 2002.

Mr. Tang Jinxian, 67 years old, from Liayang City, Shandong Province, began to practice Falun Gong in March 1998 and was healed of many illnesses. After July 20, 1999, even though he lost his original practice environment, he still persisted in practicing. He was arrested and persecuted, suffered a mental breakdown, and in March 2004 he passed away.

Ms. Long Xiangyun, 72, was a practitioner from Miaopu Branch of Jiangdong Shop, Zhuhui District, Hengyang City, Hunan Province. In June 2000, she went to Beijing to clarify the truth about Falun Gong and was unlawfully arrested then transferred to her home city and fined 2,000 yuan. Afterwards, officials from the local 610 Office and the police often harassed her at home. Her husband stopped her from practicing the exercises and studying Falun Gong books because he was afraid of being fined repeatedly. Ms. Long Xiangyun's previous heart disease recurred and she passed away in August of 2001. Before she died, she told fellow practitioners several times to be of strong resolve and not to stop their practice.

Mr. Li Guobiao, 53, was a practitioner from Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. He previously had high blood pressure, but his blood pressure returned to normal after he started practicing Falun Gong. Since the year 2002, he was repeatedly harassed and unlawfully assaulted by the local police and the street committee over a long period of time, which caused him great mental distress. Mr. Li passed away on October 9, 2003.

Mr. Xing Zhuanyun, 81, was a practitioner from Beizhangbao Village, Raoyang County, Hebei Province. In the winter of 2004, personnel from the local 610 Office went to his village and asked him if he still intended to practice Falun Gong. Mr. Xing answered "Yes." However, later on the 610 Office made up a "guarantee letter" for him, stating that he would quit practicing. This severely affected Mr. Xing mentally and physically, and he passed away on February 11, 2005.

Ms. Mi Changrong was a practitioner from Donghuayuan, Yunyang Town, Nanzhao County, and Nanyang City, Henan Province. Her husband Li Xingcheng went out to clarify the truth and was reported to the police by the principal of Donghuayuan Elementary School. Li Xingcheng was arrested by personnel from the 610 Office, and his workplace then refused to pay his salary, cutting off his family's only source of income. The police often went to their home to harass and threaten them. As a result of the constant abuse, Ms. Mi passed away on June 24, 2005.

Mr. Xiang Shufan, 74, was a practitioner from Yi County, Liaoning Province. Ever since he started practicing Falun Gong in the beginning of 1999, many of his illnesses disappeared, and he was able to quit a smoking habit of more than 50 years. However, after the persecution began in July 1999, he was under great pressure from various people and agencies. His daughter, also a practitioner, was unlawfully detained and sent to a forced labor camp because she went to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and clarify the truth. This was a great blow to Mr. Xiang, and he passed away on January 29, 2004. Before he passed away, he told his relatives and friends to believe in Falun Gong and not to do anything damaging to Falun Gong.

Mr. Zhao Shouxin, 68, was a practitioner from Jianping County, Liaoning Province. He previously suffered from various diseases, but they all disappeared within one month of practice Falun Gong in January 1999. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, Mr. Zhao's mental and physical health became severely damaged. Afraid of being affected by their father practicing Falun Gong, his children also pressured him not to practice. Mr. Zhao eventually passed away on May 18, 2004.

Following rescue efforts and calls from people worldwide, Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Huang Wei and his wife from Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province were recently released. Twice sentenced to terms of forced labor, Huang Wei and his wife were bailed out on medical parole last week, ending their labor camp terms early. Mr. Huang Wei is sick with high blood pressure, and his wife is very weak now, as well.

Mr. Huang Wei is 37 years old and was previously employed as a sales representative for the Shijiazhuang City Branch of Hebei Province Bio-medical Engineering Company. Mr. Huang's wife Hao Yanqiu is 34 years old. She graduated in fashion design from the Hebei Province Light Industry and Chemical Engineering Institute. The couple began their practice of Falun Gong in the spring of 1995. The first time Mr. Huang Wei was sentenced to three years forced labor resulting from his appealing for the rights of Falun Gong practitioners in 1999. The first labor camp term lasted until 2002.

Mr. Huang was sentenced a second time to forced labor in April of 2004. He was charged with "refusing to accept brainwashing." His wife tried to have him released but was herself detained in the Hebei Province Legal Education Center (a brainwashing class) at the beginning of 2005.

Mr. and Mrs. Huang's attorney Mr. Gao Zhisheng wrote an open letter regarding this case to the People's Congress at the end of December 2004, describing the inhuman tortures suffered by Mr. Huang because he practiced Falun Gong. The letter called for an immediate resolution to the Falun Gong practitioners' issues with legal procedures, but the Congress provided no response.

For public relations purposes, Chinese officials will often issue statements showing their continued concern for human rights prior to overseas visits by top officials. They do this while hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners are still detained in Chinese prisons and labor camps, including U.S. citizen Charles Li, who has been detained in a prison for two and a half years.

1. [Wanyuan City, Sichuan Province] Two Elderly Practitioners, Mr. Zhang Wenbin and Mr. Zhang Wenguang, Were Arrested and Detained

Mr. Zhang Wenbin (a teacher, over 60 years old) and his elder brother Mr. Zhang Wenguang (a farmer, over 70 years old), reside at Shiwo Township, Wanyuan City. On July 23, 2005, the two brothers went to the neighboring Yudai Township to clarify the truth, but were reported to the police. The police followed them, arrested them, and detained them for two days. The two brothers were tortured by the police of the Wanyuan City National Security Team and were detained at the Wanyuan No. 1 Detention Center. Even now, the police do not allow any visitors to see them.

2. [Kaifeng City, Henan Province] Ms. Geng Yunjiao and Others Were Sent by the Kaifeng 610 Office to a Brainwashing Class

The Kaifeng 610 Office sent practitioners from this area to "Wenquan Hotel" in Lankao County to be brainwashed. Those who have been arrested are: Ms. Geng Yunjiao, Mr. Wang Feng, Ms. Xue Zhenghong, Mr. Gou Xinmin, Mr. Feng Haijun, Ms. Shao Guozhi, Mr. Sang Zhenping, Ms. Li Baoyun, Mr. Zou Hongbin, Mr. Hu Shimin, and Mr. Liu Yuhu.

3. [Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia] Ms. Yang Guixia and Ms. Wang Fengyun Were Arrested by the Police

At 6:00 p.m. on August 9, 2005, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Guixia (45 years old) from Hongshan District was arrested from her home. The police dragged her into the police vehicle and sent her to the Chifeng City Brainwashing Class.

Some time around August 11, 2005, Ms. Wang Fengyun (over 40 years old) was arrested by the police when she was working as a nanny for a family in the Hongshan District.

In 2000, Ms. Wang Fengyun was sentenced to one year in the Inner Mongolia Huhhote Woman's Labor Camp. After she was released, the local 610 Office and the local police kept harassing her. Ms. Wang was forced to leave home to avoid persecution. Now she has been arrested again and we do not know where she is being detained.

4. [Wendeng City, Shandong Province] Practitioners Including Ms. Sun Wenping and Ms. Bi Jinfeng Were Arrested

In July 2005, practitioners Ms. Sun Wenping and Ms. Bi Jinfeng from Kouzi Town, Wendeng City, Mr. Lin Zhiguan from Dunjiadian of Songcun Town, and Ms. Liu Yufeng (wife) and Lin Junlan from Xiaozetou Village were arrested. Around August 10, Ms. Song Ailing from Zhouge Village, Songcun Town, Wendeng City was also arrested.

5. [Wuyi City, Zhejiang Province] Ms. Li Liangcui Has Been Missing Since Her Husband Was Arrested

Recently, Ms. Li Liangcui from Wuyi City, Zhejiang Province has been missing after her husband Mr. Zhou Lianghua (who is also a practitioner) was arrested.

6. [Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Ma Shengnan Once Again Arrested

Ms. Ma Shengnan, 56 years old, is a retired worker from the Guangyuan City Auto Transportation Company. Because she practiced Falun Gong she was sentenced to one and a half year of forced labor, and was sent to the Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp to be tortured there. Ms. Ma was extorted out of tens of thousands of yuan. Around 6:00 p.m. on August 11, she was once again arrested by the Guangyuan City 610 Office when she was taking care of her mother who is over 80 years old and seriously sick, at her mother's home at Xin Town, Yilong County, Sichuan Province. She was arrested on the street and the specific location for her detention is unknown.

7. [Pingdu City, Shandong Province] Ms. Yang Fen'e Was Arrested

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Fen'e from Pingdu City was arrested on her way from Pingdu to Jiudian to clarify the truth on July 25, 2005 (June 20, 2005 of the Chinese Calendar).

8. [Tonghua City, Jilin Province] Ms. Wang Yufang from Huashu Village of Er'daojiang District Was Arrested

Practitioner Ms. Wang Yufang from Huashu Village, Er'daojiang District, Tonghua City, Jilin Province, 52 years old, was reported to the police on August 10, 2005. She was arrested from home by the Er'daojiang District Branch of the Tonghua City Public Security Bureau. Her home was searched and her Falun Gong books and her truth-clarifying materials were confiscated. Currently Ms. Wang is jailed at the Changliu Detention Center of Tonghua City: 86-435-3927192.

9. [Hunan Province] Five Practitioners Including Xiao Ganghua Were Detained at the Qidong County Detention Center.

On the evening on August 13, 2005, Mr. Xiao Ganghua, Mr. Xiao Aimin and Mr. Li Chaoguo were arrested from their homes by the local police together with the local 610 Office National Security Team. On August 11, 2005 and August 12, 2005, practitioners Ms. Shi Jinhua and Mr. Zhou Jianping were arrested. Currently, the five of them are being jailed at the County Detention Center.

10. [Xuchang County, Henan Province] Practitioners Including Ms. Lian Yuzhu Were Arrested

On August 9, 2005, Ms. Lian Yuzhu, Ms. Su Xiulan and Ms. Jiang Jinghua were followed and reported when they were clarifying the truth to people. They have been arrested and are currently detained at the Xuchang County Detention Center and have been tortured there.

11. [Potou City, Hebei Province] Practitioners Including Yin Xiuying Were Arrested

On August 2, 2005, practitioners Ms. Yin Xiuying and Mr. Zhang Xiong from Hezhuangzi Village of Wenmiao Town, Potou City, Hebei Province were reported on and arrested on their way to Huanghua City. Currently, they are being detained at Huanghua City Detention Center.

12. [Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia] Practitioners Including Ms. Wang Fengyun Were Arrested

On August 12, 2005, Ms. Wang Fengyun was arrested by the Chifeng Public Security Bureau.

Due to the persecution, Ms. Wang Fengyun has been homeless. In the morning of August 12, 2005, she was arrested by the Chifeng Public Security Bureau at the Huoua Road Food Market. Ms. Wang Fengyun was sentenced to forced labor at the Huhhot City Women's Labor Camp.

Recently, a female fellow practitioner surnamed Yang from the eastern suburb, who makes a living selling sweet potatoes, has also been arrested by the Chifeng Public Security Bureau.

13. [Xunke County, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Fu Lihua Arrested by the Public Security Bureau

Practitioner Ms. Fu Lihua from Xunke County, Heilongjiang Province was arrested between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on June 20, 2005 when she was on her way home from Harbin City. She was in front of her home at the time of arrest.

14. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Mr. Zhi Zhanmin Was Arrested for the Third Time

Around August 10, 2005, practitioner Mr. Zhi Zhanmin from Dagudian Village of Mancheng County, Baoding City, was arrested by the police for the third time. Currently he is being jailed at the Baoding Detention Center.
