Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Zhengheng was the former Human Resources Department Head of Longhui County, Hunan Province. On July 10, 2005, shortly after his wife was arrested, Mr. Chen suffered from illness and passed away.
Mr. Chen was 67 years old. Before retirement, he was the Human Resources Department Head of Longhui County, Hunan Province. He started to practice Falun Gong in 1998. His wife Ms. Huang Jinlian is over 60 years and is a retired teacher. She used to have severe heart disease, but after she started to practice Falun Gong in 1998, all of her illnesses disappeared.
Ever since July 20, 1999, when the persecution of Falun Gong started, the Longhui County 610 Office director Yuan Ping and some other officials have been persecuting Mr. Chen's entire family. The local police have detained Ms. Huang three times. They forced her to pay 6,000 yuan for a conditional release. Mr. Chen once gave up the practice due to the pressure of the persecution. Later, he made a Solemn Declaration announcing that what he said against Falun Gong under duress was null and void and he started practicing again.
On June 27, 2005, National Security Bureau Head Zeng Fanglong instigated policeman Long Jiliang, together with some policemen from Taohuaping Police Station, to ransack Mr. Chen's home twice. They also arrested Ms. Huang and took her to the Police Department, claiming someone reported her to the police for Falun Gong activities. Although they did not find any evidence when they ransacked the house, on June 28, they still sent Ms. Huang to a detention center. Mr. Chen was visiting his hometown at the time.
After Mr. Chen returned from the trip, he was very upset and in deep grief upon finding that his wife had been arrested. His old illness recurred, and he was sent to hospital. A medical rescue failed, and he passed away on July 10, 2005. The officials did not release Ms. Huang until Mr. Chen was dying.

On January 26, 2003, while distributing truth-clarification materials, I was arrested by four policemen. At the police station, the policemen forced me to sit on the Tiger Bench for one day and one night and tried to force me to tell them where the truth-clarification materials came from, and where and how I contact other practitioners. I told the policemen that the Falun Gong materials are used to tell people facts about Falun Gong and to save people. I said to them: "I believe in the principles of 'Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.' The first principle is truthfulness. I can't lie to you. I did get the materials from other practitioners. But I won't tell you who they are or where they live even if I die." The policemen said: "You can't die. We'll send you to the Masanjia Labor Camp for three years of forced labor."
I was detained at the detention center for fifty days. During this period, the head of the detention center often talked with me and asked me whether I would practice Falun Gong at the detention center. I told him that I would. I practiced the Falun Gong exercises for forty days. Later, the policemen put me in the solitary confinement room. They put handcuffs on my hands and shackles on my feet. Ten days later, they sent me to the Dalian City Forced Labor Camp.
At the labor camp, they first put me in the brainwashing center for 17 days. While I was there, I refused to give in no matter how badly they tortured me. I told the policemen there: "Falun Dafa is righteous. My Teacher came here to save people. I will always believe in Falun Gong and will never give it up." They then decided to take me out the brainwashing classes and forced me to work for them for six and a half months in the labor camp.
At this point, I worked with two other practitioners and we wrote an appeal letter together. In the appeal letter, we stated that over 100 million people in China and people in over 60 countries practice Falun Gong. Falun Gong can help people improve their morality and health, and is beneficial to individuals and society alike. Yet the Chinese government, led by Jiang Zemin, banned Falun Gong. Telling people the facts about Falun Gong is not illegal. In fact, it is saving people from the vicious lies fabricated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). We requested that the government allow us to practice Falun Gong openly and to stop the forced labor and the brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
After we gave the authorities the appeal letter, they were quite upset. Over a dozen police heads came and talked with me, and I tried to reason with them. On October 27, 2003, they put me in the solitary confinement room again. They handcuffed me to two metal beds until December 20. Since I still refused to give in, they raised the handcuffs and hung me up by my wrists, with my feet barely touching the ground for four days and four nights. Later, a policeman with the last name of Song saw that my legs were swollen from the feet all the way to the hip and that I could not stand any more. They then gave me a folding stool to sit on. My feet were shackled to the stool and my hands were still cuffed to the metal beds. I was shackled and handcuffed for 23 days, and I was not allowed to sleep during this period.
On February 10, 2004, the policemen tried to force me to turn against Falun Gong. They didn't give me water to drink and only gave me a little food to eat. I was only allowed to use the restroom once a day and not allowed to sleep. If I fell asleep, they would beat me. Since I was exhausted, sometimes even the beating couldn't wake me up. They would then burn me. They lit nylon ropes and allowed the flaming plastic to drip on my arms. My hands and arms were covered with blisters due to the burning, and many scars were left after the blisters were gone. During the daytime, they ordered eight people to beat me. They asked me whether I would continue to practice Falun Gong. I would say yes, and they would slap my face with the sole of a shoe. This went on and on. They sometimes got tired from beating me and sat on the bed, panting. The skin on my face was broken and my flesh was torn. Later my face turned blackish purple. Every inch of my body had been struck at some point.
When the police beat me, I thought to myself, practicing Falun Gong is the right thing to do. I will always listen to Teacher and continue to practice. I will never give in to the relentless persecution. They beat me for 28 days. I told them not to treat practitioners so cruelly, as they would receive karmic retribution for their actions. They put me in the solitary confinement room and shackled me to a folding stool. Two policemen used wooden boards to hit my legs. While hitting me, they asked me whether I was a human or a ghost. I told them I was a Falun Gong practitioner. After repeated beatings, my legs turned black and blue and didn't recover even after more than a month.
For a long time, they didn't give me any water to drink. They poured wash water on the ground and stepped in the water. They then forced me to lick the soles of their shoes. They threw most of the steamed bread into the trash and only left me with a small piece to eat. I had severe constipation and had only one bowel movement in 12 days. A policeman with the family name of Jiang said, "Falun Gong practitioners don't drink? Force-feed him with some alcohol, then. If he doesn't 'transform', use electric batons to shock him. Let's see whether his mouth is harder than the electric baton." For four days, they force-fed me with alcohol. I was forced to squat down. I was not allowed to rest my bottom on the ground. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., I squatted for 12 hours. Whenever my buttocks touched the ground, they shocked me with 15,000-volt electric batons. The next day I was forced to squat for 9 hours. During this time they asked me to write the three statements. I told the policemen that even if they beat me to death, I would not write the "three statements." I am so fortunate to practice Falun Gong, and I'm not afraid of death.
When the policemen saw that I was not afraid of death, and that they could never "transform" me, they gave up.
On January 26, 2005, I finally went back home and continued on my journey.
On the morning of July 28, 2005, the police followed 36-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ma Xueqing from Dalian City, Liaoning Province and arrested her once again on her way to work. Later, they searched her home. Currently Ms. Ma is being detained at the Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian City. This is the seventh time that Ms. Ma has been arrested and the fourth time her home has been ransacked.
Ms. Ma Xueqing graduated from college and is a government employee. She has always worked diligently and productively. Until last year, she was always selected as a national model worker in her occupation. Because she has been practicing "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" for the past six years, Ma Xueqing has been repeatedly persecuted. The authorities have detained her for a total of 137 days. They searched her office twice and they extorted 7,000 yuan from her. Below is a brief account of Ms. Ma's arrest experiences.
The first time: On April 20, 2000, Ms. Ma's employer asked her to attend a business conference in Beijing. Out of fear that she might appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong during her stay there, the Chunhai Police Station of Zhongshan District, Dalian City dispatched four policemen to arrest her. They took her to the Dalian Drug Rehabilitation Center. The authorities released Ms. Ma on June 1 and extorted 7,000 yuan from her.
The second time: On July 5, 2000, Ms. Ma went to help a lonely girl whose parents had been arrested because they practiced Falun Gong. The police, who were waiting for her at the girl's place, arrested her and ransacked her home. Because they could not find anything useful, the frustrated police sent Ms. Ma to the Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian City and later transferred her to a brainwashing center where they kept her until September 6.
The third time: On the evening of April 15, 2002, with the nearing of the sensitive date "April 25," the police searched Ms. Ma's home again without any result. Claiming that Ms. Ma had a "bad attitude," they forcibly took her to the Chunhai Police Station, and then to the Yaojia Detention Center. They did not release her until four days later when she had a heart attack.
The fourth time: On August 12, 2002, in another round of persecution before the commencement of "the 16th National People's Congress," six people from the Chunhai Police Station broke into Ms. Ma's office to search for "evidence" to be used against her. When their search ended in vain, several strong men dragged Ma Xueqing out and threw her into the police car. Because they handcuffed her hands tightly behind her back, the marks were on Ms. Ma's wrists for a long time and her thumb was almost disabled. On their way to the police station, Ms. Ma had another heart attack. The police tried to bribe the doctor for his signature stating that Ms. Ma was in good health, but the doctor refused. However, Ms. Ma was still sentenced to two years of forced labor and was taken to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. The labor camp was closed at that time and no one was available to give Ms. Ma a physical exam. Therefore, they refused to accept her on the grounds of incomplete documents. Nevertheless, the police left Ms. Ma there anyway. It was not until later that Ms. Ma developed a series of critical conditions such as electrolyte disorder, heart embolism and four plus signs of ketones in her urine. Only on September 5 did the labor camp call Ms. Ma's relative to take her home (after paying a 3,000-yuan "deposit"). Ms. Ma was so weak at the time that she could not walk by herself and needed someone to carry her when going upstairs.
The fifth time: On April 7, 2003, without any reason, the police came to Ms. Ma's home to arrest her again. Since she was not in at the time, they came to her office to arrest her. Ma Xueqing had a heart attack again and her blood pressure dropped suddenly. They had no other choice but to send her to the emergency room of a hospital. Despite this, after the incident, they continued going to her office to harass her. Under such constant pressure, Ms. Ma's husband divorced her.
The sixth time: On September 6, 2004, Ms. Ma went to visit a friend after work. As soon as she stepped through the door, a policeman waiting outside jumped out, arrested her and took her to the police station. The next day, they also went to her home to search it. During the process, they handcuffed Ms. Ma in order to humiliate her in front of her neighbors. On the night of September 7, because of her heart problem, they finally released her.
The seventh time: On July 28, 2005, the police followed Ms. Ma and arrested her on her way to work. They ransacked her office and her parents' home. Despite her poor health, they forcibly took Ms. Ma to the detention center. At present, Ma Xueqing is jailed at the Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian City. Further details are unknown.
Recently, Ms. Ma's father was hospitalized because he could no longer bear the suffering of his daughter's repetitive arrests. His once normal blood sugar levels have suddenly been showing symptoms of abnormality. All the ordeals and persecution experienced by Ms. Ma and her family members are hard to write down.

During the past six years, Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have brutally suppressed Falun Gong. Even a remote area like Anren County in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province has been involved in this persecution. The Anren County 610 Office and the Public Security Division (now called the National Security Bureau) have colluded with each other. Usually, the City Community Law Commission and the 610 Office set up "Prevention Measures." Whenever Falun Gong truth clarifying materials were found in any town or township, these two authorities arrested practitioners on their list. They arbitrarily confiscated practitioners' property, harassed them, extorted money, fined, imprisoned, beat, extorted confessions and sentenced these practitioners. The following are details about the persecution of Falun Gong in Anren County.
The Use of Spies to Persecute Practitioners Leads to Multiple Arrests, Abuse in Detention
At the end of 2002, a practitioner put up a "Falun Dafa is Good" banner in Anren County. Anren County officials used a man surnamed Guo (first name unknown), who used to practice Falun Gong, to become friendly with the practitioners in Yongxing County, Chenzhou City, and spy on them. On April 19, 2003, they then arrested 15 practitioners and 3 non-practitioners. Led by the director of the Public Security Bureau, Deng Guangtan, and the head of the Community Security Division, Chen Yunqing, they brutally beat the practitioners. They slapped them very hard until they lost consciousness. Then they woke them up with cold water to continue the beating. They physically punished the practitioners by depriving them of sleep for three days straight and handcuffed their hands behind their backs to iron bars. They also instigated other prisoners to torture practitioners and extort "confessions" from them. Practitioner Mr. Xu Yunyan's leg was almost broken from being beaten and he couldn't walk for at least 3 months.
If the police really couldn't find any evidence against practitioners and couldn't continue to hold them, the police would nevertheless extort 4,000 to 20,000 yuan from them before releasing them. A female practitioner's parents were doing business out of town. In order to rescue their daughter, they gave 50,000 yuan to the 610 Office, which the police called a "sponsor fee." This didn't even include the "fines." Five practitioners were transferred to the County Court and were sentenced from 3 to 9 years in prison. These practitioners were, Mr. He Renchun (9 years), Mr. Chen Yiyuan (8 years), Mr. Xu Yunyan (7 years), Ms. Cao Linfang (7 years), and Ms. Cao Linying (3 years). Male practitioners were sent to the Wangling Prison in You County, Zhuzhou City. Female practitioners were sent to the Changsha Women's Prison. The practitioners have been suffering inhuman tortures in prison.
Relentless Persecution against Three Sisters and Their Families
There are three sisters in Anren County who are all practitioners. The oldest sister is Ms. Li Liumei (58 years old). She lives in Chenzhou City. The second one is Ms. Li Hualin (56 years old), who lives in Lianshi Village in Zhushan Township and the youngest is Ms. Li Guilin (54 years old) who lives in Zhushan Township in Anren County.
On February 26, 2001, the police from the Community Security Division deceived Ms. Li Huanlin into going to a detention center. On March 26, she was allowed to leave on bail. Her family had to spend 5,000 yuan for her bail and paid 1,000 yuan for her food and 500 yuan as a "gift" to the officers.
On April 9, 2002, the youngest sister, Ms. Li Guilin went to the Community Security Division to deliver "truth clarifying" materials and was arrested. The police suspected that her older sister, Ms. Li Liumei had given the materials to her, so they arrested her, confiscated her property and put her in prison. On July 9, Ms. Li Liumei's family spent 5,000 yuan to bail her out and paid 1,000 for the food. Ms. Li Guilin had to spend 4,000 yuan for the bail fee and 1,000 yuan for the food before she could go home.
By the end of August, Ms. Li Liumei was sentenced to the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou for a year and a half. Ms. Li Guilin was sentenced to two years. When Chen Yunqing came to arrest her, she wasn't home. After she learned about the sentence, she never went back home and decided to work and live elsewhere. After the police tried a few times to find Ms. Li Guilin at home, they arrested her husband, Wang Leren, brought him to the detention center and locked him up as a hostage. Mr. Wang was not a practitioner and lived in the detention center, terrorized day after day. When the police finally caught Ms. Li Guilin, Wang Leren had been imprisoned as a hostage for 38 days.
After Ms. Li Hualin went home, her family asked her to work out of town, fearing that she would also get arrested. To clarify the truth, she wrote a letter to the county government and to Chen Yuqing from the Community Security Division, who was in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Based on where the letter was sent from, the officers went to a construction site in Zhuhai City, but found no one. They then went back to Anren County and confiscated all of the valuables from Li Hualin's and her daughter's homes. On September 27, the police went to Ms. Li Hualin's daughter's home in Dongguan and threatened her. They told her that if she didn't turn in her own mother, they would take her to prison as a hostage. Ms. Li Hualin had no choice but to go to the detention center the second time. Her family spent a large amount of money again to bail her out. The total amount of money her family spent has added up to over 10,000 yuan.
Ms. Li Guilin suffered from even more brutal persecution in the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City. When she was released after two years, she was just skin and bones and couldn't see anything. Her back and leg muscles were swollen and numb and she couldn't walk properly. The Anren 610 Office frequently harassed her. In June 2004, after they continuously got the answer from her, "I want to steadfastly practice Falun Gong," the police confiscated Ms. Li's property once again. When they found a Falun Gong book, they used it as a pretext to arrest her again. She went on a hunger strike in protest. They finally released her when she started to vomit blood.
Ms. Li Liumei was again suspected to have given her sister the Falun Gong book. The police searched and ransacked her home but didn't find anything. Ms. Li Liumei was hence spared being arrested again. One day, when she saw the police coming to arrest her again, she went to her balcony and jumped off in an attempt to escape. She wasn't seriously injured, but from then on, her husband, worried about the family's safety, suppressed her from practicing Falun Gong.
In July, Ms. Li Guilin's daughter had a baby and her son-in-law brought Ms. Li to Chenzhou to take care of her daughter. The police from the 610 Office and the Community Security Division went to Ms. Li's home and didn't find her. The police lied to her husband, Wang Leren, saying that they were worried about her health. Wang hence took the police to their daughter's home. The police, upon seeing Ms. Li, grabbed her, forced her into the police car, brought her to the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp and sentenced her to a year of forced labor.
The police again arrested Ms. Li Hualin. She escaped later and began a life of being homeless. Because she feared being arrested, she couldn't even go home during the holidays.
The Persecution of Mr. Peng Zongwen
Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Peng Zongwen, who is over 50 years old, is a former employee of a manganese mine in Manaoshan. He went home (Hexi Village in Chengping, Anren County) after retirement. Mr. Peng was not spared from this inhumane persecution against Falun Gong. The 610 Office and the police often watched and harassed him.
In May 2004, the police from Anren County went to practitioner Mr. Li Jianxun's home in Hexi Village, confiscated his property and took him to the Community Security Division. The police threatened and coerced him to tell them where he got some new Falun Gong books. The next day the police entered Mr. Peng Zongwen's home, but found nothing. They still arrested Mr. Peng. The police went to Mr. Peng's home after 2 days and searched his neighbors' houses but still couldn't find any "evidence" against him. They held Mr. Peng in the detention center and released him only after he went on a hunger strike for 20 days, putting his life in danger.
On May 24, 2005, the police again broke into Mr. Peng's house to search and confiscate his property. They found nothing and wanted to rob Mr. Peng of the money he had saved for his daughter's wedding. Mr. Peng's wife yelled, "No wonder you people frequently come to our house and overturn everything. You always want to rob us! If any of you dare to make a move today ..."
The police took Mr. Peng away. It has been three months and Mr. Peng is still detained. His daughter called the Anren 610 Office and asked, "You don't have any evidence to legally hold him. Why do you imprison my father for so long?" They replied, "We were not done with him from the last time (Mr. Peng's arrest in May 2004)." His daughter asked, "Last time you didn't have any evidence either. I am home every day and have never seen my father do anything wrong. What evidence do you have to keep him there?" The police responded, "Do you think your father is a simple man? We couldn't get a word out of him. If he were an ordinary farmer, he would have been so scared that he would have told everything."
The Persecution of Mr. Wang Yeqing
Mr. Wang Yeqing is about 32 years old and is a practitioner in Chengping Township, Anren County. In January 2001, Mr. Wang had just gotten married. When he went Beijing, the 610 Office and police from the community security division went to his home, took away all his furniture and sentenced him to two years in a forced labor camp. After Mr. Wang came home from the labor camp, the 610 Office still continued to harass him.
In September 2003, a Dongguan patrol officer arrested Mr. Wang because he put up several posters saying, "Falun Dafa is Good." Mr. Wang went on a hunger strike in protest for over 20 days and was sent back to Anren County because his life was in danger. The police robbed Mr. Wang's parents of over 1,322 pounds of grain and threatened to sell their pigs to pay off their travel expenses.
In June 2004, Mr. Wang went to work at a construction site in Chenzhou. In less than 10 days, the police lied to Mr. Wang's mother to get her to tell them where he worked. The police went to Chenzhou, arrested him and sent him directly to Xinkaipu in Changsha City. Mr. Wang had to serve one and half years in a forced labor camp. After his mother learned that her son had been arrested, she cried every day. Mr. Wang's wife had to work in order to bring food home. Their son was going to elementary school and no one could afford his tuition.
The Persecution of Older Practitioners Mr. Duan Bangxiao, Ms. Chen Nianmei and Ms. Wang Zhifang
Mr. Duan Bangxiao started practicing Falun Gong late compared to other practitioners. He was about 58 years old and from Anping in Anren County. As a result of practicing Falun Gong, his body and mind improved significantly. In 2001, notices reading, "Falun Dafa is Good" appeared on the utility poles near the Anping area. The Anren police listed Mr. Duan as a suspect, arrested him and sentenced him to a year and half in a forced labor camp. The police threatened not to let him go home if he didn't sign a "guarantee" to stop practicing. Mr. Duan hence wrote the Three Statements against his will.
After Mr. Duan came back from the labor camp, the Anren police suspected that he posted flyers about how to avoid natural and man-made calamities when SARS was widespread in 2003. The police arrested him again and sentenced him to a forced labor camp for a year and a half.
Ms. Chen Nianmei was about 70 years old and a Falun Gong practitioner from Qingxi in Anren County. The Anren police suspected her of distributing Falun Gong truth clarifying materials so they confiscated her property and arrested her. She went home after one day in detention. On December 25, 2004, the police suddenly arrested Ms. Chen at her home and sentenced her to a year and a half in a forced labor camp. At the time of this report, Ms. Chen is still being persecuted in the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp.
Ms. Wang Zhifang is about 60 years old and from Zhushan in Anren County. In April 2005, the police broke into her house. They searched it and arrested her. Ms. Wang was sentenced to a year and a half in the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp. At the time of this report, she is still being held in the camp.
Additional Information about the Persecution of Individual Practitioners
Mr. Lu Bosheng and his son, Mr. Lu Lianglin, lived in Anping Town in Anren County. Before the persecution started on July 20, 1999, Mr. Lu was a volunteer assistant. After the persecution started, every time something happened, the police and 610 Office wanted to "talk" to him. Because of the frequent harassment and pressure from the police, Mr. Lu was unable to practice. He died of diabetes in 2002. The police unexpectedly broke into Mr. Lu Lianglin's home in June 2004 and confiscated his property. Mr. Lu was arrested and sentenced to a year and a half. At the time of the report, Mr. Lu was still being persecuted in the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp in Changsha City.
Mr. Fan Sanfa is about 54 years old and from Chengping Township in Anren County. On December 29, 2000, Mr. Fan and other practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. Mr. Fan was arrested, sentenced to 4 years and imprisoned in the notorious Chishan Prison.
Ms. Zhou Xiaohong is 39 years old and a practitioner from Chenzhou City. The Anren police suspected her of sending home Falun Gong truth clarifying materials. They confiscated her property and arrested her. The police imprisoned her in the Anren Detention Center for a long time before releasing her.
Ms. Li Xiaoying was about 46 years old and from Chengping Township in Anren County. On December 29, 2000, Ms. Li and other practitioners went to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. The 610 Office, police, and staff from the township government arrested them and escorted them home. On their way home on a train, Ms. Li disappeared in the middle of the night. Her whereabouts are still unknown and she has never been heard from since then. The Anren 610 Office and those escorting her home offered no explanation to her family.
Mr. He Cangbai was 32 years old. He started practicing Falun Gong when he was in college in Chenzhou. After the persecution started, the higher officials pressured all lower levels, so that Mr. He's name was on every brainwashing list. Because Mr. He's wife went to appeal for Falun Gong in December 2000, she was sentenced to a year and a half in a forced labor camp. The repeated persecution made Mr. He more and more frightened and his temper changed a lot. He didn't want to continue his studies and was afraid of seeing strangers. He would get so frightened that he would jump up on a chair when he heard the sirens from passing police cars. He couldn't sit still and was anxious in new environments.

This article lists only a handful of the persecution cases in Anren County. Because of the highly tyrannical environment in this area and because of the information blockade, the situation of many victims is unknown to us. Even so, the treatment of the above practitioners is an example of the brutality of this persecution and of how the Chinese government acts arbitrarily and not in accordance with the rule of law.
Suspected police and people in charge who were involved in the persecution:
Former Director of the Anren 610 Office: Chen Xianjia
Current Director of the Anren 610 Office: Duan Bangshe
Staff of the Anren 610 Office: Tan Sihua and Chen Bilan
Head of the Anren Community Security Division: Chen Yunqing
Director of the Anren Public Safety Bureau: Deng Guangqing
Practitioner Ms. Chen Meili is in her sixties. She is the chief physician at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi Medical University. The Xihu District Court of Nanchang City illegally sentenced her last year to 8 years in prison because she practices Falun Gong. Those responsible ignored the fact that Ms. Chen suffered from high blood pressure, and put her in the forced labor camp hospital. Now, due to the persecution, she has lost the sight in both of her eyes.
Practitioner Ms. Wu Fengzhen is a doctor of acupuncture at the Number One Hospital of Nanchang City. Officers of the Tengwangge Police Station in Nanchang City arrested Ms. Wu on June 28, 2005, while she was distributing truth-clarifying materials. Her four-year-old daughter was left with no one to take care of her. During the process, the police also detained and questioned the director of her work unit. After being booked and processed by the police, Ms. Wu managed to walk out of the police station later. Her sister had already picked up her daughter. On the authority of the Donghu Public Security Bureau, officers of the Tengwangge Police Station conducted a door-to-door search for Ms. Wu the next day. The police searched all of Ms. Wu's relatives' homes in that area. Police officers were posted at bus and train stations in the hopes of intercepting Ms. Wu if she attempted to go to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. It was reported that the police officers of the Tengwangge Police Station were fined 200 yuan each for their failure to arrest Ms. Wu.
On July 11, 2005, Ms. Wu returned to work with the understanding that leaders from the Tengwangge Police Station and her hospital had received her truth-clarifying letter, and police had informed her sister that if she went back to work, everything would be alright. When Ms. Wu went home for lunch on her first day back to work, however, the Tengwangge Police took her away with her daughter. Ms. Wu's sister picked up her daughter again. Ms. Wu is now detained at the Eighth Ward of the First Detention Center of Nanchang City. It was reported that she will be sentenced to two years of in prison.
We would like to warn the perpetrators of the persecution of innocent people, and admonish them to take a lesson from the following incidents:
The director of the Dongxinxiang Police Station in Nanchang County, Liu Baolong, died in a car accident as he was returning from taking Falun Gong practitioner Deng Fanbao to a brainwashing class in 2001. Liu was actively involved in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Zhang Guoliang, the head of the Nanchang City Public Security Bureau died in a car accident in June 2002. Zhang had ordered a citywide raid on Falun Gong practitioners in 2000. Peng Jinsheng, head of the National Security Section of the Jiujiang City Police Department in Jiangxi Province, had a full-time job persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. At the end of December 2001, Peng Jinsheng suddenly died of a stroke while he was en route to Taiping Mountain in Wuning County to arrest Falun Gong practitioners. The relevant department of the Communist Party even named him a "revolutionary martyr."
Editors' Note: Each time we publish news of this nature, we do so with heavy hearts. These people started off as public servants, but under the intense pressure applied by former President Jiang Zemin and his followers, they were pushed into persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. In the process of destroying the lives of kind, law-abiding citizens, they have sealed their own fates and inevitably faced karmic retribution as punishment. If it weren't for Jiang's wicked orders, perhaps their fates would have been different.
Ms. Zhao Huixiang was a Falun Gong practitioner from Fushun City, Liaoning Province. She suffered a mental collapse due to the tortures she experienced in detention. On March 10, 2003, Ms. Zhao jumped from the sixth floor a building and died at the age of 50. [Editor's note: The teachings of Falun Gong strictly forbid taking a life, including one's own. Ms. Zhao's mental deterioration and lack of judgement that led to her death are a tragic and direct result of the brutal state-sponsored persecution she suffered.]
Ms. Zhao started practicing Falun Gong in January 1997. Before that she suffered from high blood pressure. The illness completely went away after she practiced Falun Gong.
In November 2000, Ms. Zhao went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was arrested. In December 2000, she was sent to the Fushun Labor Education Center and was illegally sentenced to a two-year detention. During that time she went astray from Falun Gong. In June 2001 Ms. Zhao was released on bail for medical treatment. After she went home she quickly realized her mistake. In order to make up for the damage she caused to Falun Gong, she clarified the truth about Falun Gong to the Political and Legal Committee in the Wanghua District and at the local police station. She clarified the truth wherever she went.
Zhao Huixiang's husband, Yu Chunfu, is also a Falun Gong practitioner. In September 2002 he was arrested by Wang Rulan, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Secretary of the Legal Committee in the Wanghua District, and was sent to the Wulaotun Brainwashing Class in the Wanghua District. Wang Rulan asked Ms. Zhao to drop off some clothes for her husband. When she went to the brainwashing class to leave the clothes, Wang Rulan detained her for a month. Since Ms. Zhao did not give up her belief, she was sent to the Fushun Labor Education Center for illegal detention.
At the Fushun Labor Education Center Ms. Zhao was locked up in a small cell. She was not allowed to go to the restroom, so she had to relieve herself in the cell, which was monitored by a male staff member. We do not have detailed information about the tortures she endured. In December 2002 Ms. Zhao was released at the end of her two-year term. Due to the vicious tortures, her mental state had deteriorated. She would scream whenever someone knocked on the door. On March 1, 2003, her family sent her to the Fushun Mineral Bureau Mental Hospital. She stayed there for four days at a cost to her family of over 1,000 yuan, an unbelievable amount of money for a family of three with a monthly income of 600 yuan. She was taken home when her state improved a little, and she continued to take medicine. On March 31, 2003, when Zhao Huixiang was home alone, she jumped from the sixth floor. She died on the way to the hospital.
In 2000 officials with the Political and Legal Committee of the Wanghua District extorted Ms. Zhao Huixiang out of 3,000 yuan. They returned only 2,000 yuan and kept the rest. When Falun Gong practitioners said to those officials, "You are directly responsible for Zhao Huixiang's death," they were silent.
