Mr. Xin Baodong and his wife Ms. Gao Shuying, Falun Gong practitioners from Nanguan Village, Juyang Town, Sanhe City, have firmly believed in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" for years. Because of this, they have been subjected to several arrests, home searches, detention, and forced labor. In 2003, shortly after the Chinese New Year, after an unsuccessful attempt to arrest Xin Baodong and his wife, the police put them on a wanted list and offered a high monetary reward for their capture. Mr. Xin's mother could not stand the constant blows from the persecution and passed away on July 22, 2003.
On July 21, 2005, police officers accompanied by Ma Zhixing, the Juyang Town deputy police chief, arrested Xin Baodong and Gao Shuying. (For further information, please refer to the following Clearwisdom report: /emh/articles/2005/8/10/63775.html.) Xin Baodong's paralyzed father was left at home without care. He died on August 7, 2005.
Mr. Xin Baodong and his wife Ms. Gao Shuying started practicing Falun Gong in the spring of 1998. They had a clothing shop. Before they started practicing, Mr. Xin and Ms. Gao sometimes had arguments with their customers or were even involved in fighting with people who were in the same business. After they started practicing Falun Gong, the couple understood the real meaning of life, and they did things according to Falun Gong. They treated people with compassion, never argued with others and had a happy family. They realized that "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" really purified their mind and body, and improved morality. They invited their neighbors to their house to practice Falun Gong in the morning and at night, free of charge as taught by Master.
In order to help more people benefit from Falun Gong, Mr. Xin Baodong and his wife bought a two-story building in town. The lower level was for shops and the upper level was the place for Falun Gong practice. This great and generous gesture, however, later became the main reason that the family was the target of persecution.
After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, whenever one of the so-called sensitive dates approached, Mr. Xin Baodong and his wife would be arrested and detained. On those sensitive days, a dozen or more Falun Gong practitioners in the town, or other targeted Falun Gong practitioners, would be captured and locked up in the town government building. Mr. Xin Baodong and his wife would be sent to the city detention center and held there for at least two to four weeks.
The following is an account of just several of the abuses and tragedies that Xin Baodong's family had to endure in the unlawful persecution of Falun Gong:
In the spring of 2000, terrorized by the fact that the police repeatedly detained her son and daughter-in-law, Xin Baodong's mother was hospitalized at the Sanhe City Hospital. The police broke into the hospital and took Xin Baodong and Gao Shuying away as they were taking care of her. They were sent to the city detention center for more than a dozen days, leaving their mother alone without care. As a result, Xin Baodong's mother suffered neglect and became paralyzed.
At the end of November 2000, Xin Baodong was sentenced to one year of forced labor, falsely accused of "subverting state authority." At the labor camp, Mr. Xin was severely tortured and mentally tormented. At the end of 2000, when Xin Baodong's sentence at the labor camp was up, his wife Gao Shuying was detained. She was released back home only after she went on a hunger strike for more than a week to protest the illegal detention. Two days after her return, at around 5:00 a.m., Juyang Town Comprehensive Management Office Head Shi Lijun and a group of people under his leadership broke into the family home. Gao Shuying's daughter tried to block their entrance. She was afraid that her mother would be taken away again for inhuman persecution. Those lawless officials did not care about the pajama-clad child. She was dragged to the town government building, forced to stand barefoot on the concrete floor in the winter and had to face a wall for punishment. Several people went back to Gao Shuying's bedroom before dawn and took Ms. Gao out of bed. She was still weak.
In the winter of 2001, Xin Baodong was released after he completed his term. Naturally, he wanted to be together with the family again. However, he found out that his wife had been arrested and sent to a brainwash class. Their two children, in the first year of middle school, were going to school every day while they were taking care of their grandparents.
In March 2002, only three months after his return from detention, Xin Baodong was arrested again without due cause. The perpetrators were Yang Dianfang, the former director, and Liu Yingqiu, the deputy director of the Political Protection Division of the Sanhe Police Department. They also searched his shop and the house. They took away Falun Gong books and pictures, as well as personal belongings. Without any evidence, the police issued an arrest warrant and put Xin Baodong into a detention center under criminal detention. The head of the cell ordered several inmates to beat him. During nine days of serious physical abuse, including severe beatings, Xin Baodong suffered eight broken ribs.
Because the police illegally arrested him, levied no charges and caused him such serious injuries, the police were forced to pay all of Mr. Xin's medical expenses and another 30,000 yuan as compensation. Xin Baodong was later unconditionally released. Nevertheless, the police report stated the result as "released due to a medical condition."
Shortly after the 2003 Chinese New Year, the police unsuccessfully attempted to arrest both Xin Baodong and Gao Shuying. Later, they issued an arrest warrant. Xin Baodong and his wife were compelled to become homeless. Their two children, now in the third year of middle school, tried very hard to complete their heavy schoolwork load while taking care of their old grandpa and paralyzed grandma. Xin Baodong's mother could no longer endure this constant misfortune, and she died on July 22.
Xin Baodong's 85-year-old father was completely dependent on others for his basic needs. He could not walk and needed assistance for eating or going to the bathroom. Their two high school-aged children needed attention as well. The only thing that Xin Baodong and his wife could do was to sneak back home and spend some time with their children and Mr. Xin's father. They no longer could open their shop; instead, they were babysitting three-or-four-year-olds to make a living.
On the morning of July 21, 2005, the Sanhe City police, together with Ma Zhixing from the Juyang Town Police Precinct, broke into Xin Baodong's home and forcibly took Mr. Xin and his wife away. Mr. Xin managed to escape from his captors later. Their two children were not at home, but his wife Gao Shuying was captured and incarcerated in a detention center. Xin Baodong's eighty-year-old father and two children were once again placed in dire straits.
On the morning of July 25, Xin Baodong's son took his grandpa on a three-wheeler and went to the police station to ask for his innocent mother's release. The police refused to release Gao Shuying and detained Xin Baodong's son for 15 days. The police hired someone to take Mr. Xin's father back home and recorded the event in detail. They wanted to prove that a Falun Gong practitioner's relative had been sent back home. If he died at home, they felt it would not be their responsibility.
The police broke into the locked house, left Xin Baodong's father inside one of the rooms, and had two people from Nanguan Village temporarily take care of him. Baodong' father was frightened, could not stay calm and could not eat or drink anything. The two caretakers were afraid he would die. They called the police many times and reported the situation.
On the third day, Xin Baodong's father's condition was worsening and the caretakers called and told the police, "If you don't come up with a plan to save him, we are going home. If he dies under our care, how can we tell Xin Baodong?" The police finally showed up and verified the situation. They reluctantly released Gao Shuying, who had been on hunger strike again for eight days and was also in critical condition. On August 7, Xin Baodong' father died from fright and worry over his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Jiang Yong, 46 years old, lived in the No. 10 Commune at Guangming Village, Xingfu Township, Changchun City, Jilin Province. He was tortured to death in July 2004. The perpetrators were from the Changchun City Police Department Security Division and from the Tiebei Detention Center. Jiang Yong's body was covered with injuries. A scar around his neck indicates where a rope had been. Many black and blue patches of skin were found on his body. His eyes were open, his eyelids dark blue, and a big patch of skin of his chest was bleached to cover up congealed blood and as a result appeared strangely white. Blood and foam were found in the corner of his mouth.
Perpetrators from the Tiebei Detention Center presented his family with a fake death certificate that reads, "Sudden illness, rescue efforts failed." Jiang Yong's family angrily pointed out the discrepancies in the document and refused to let the police cremate Jiang Yong's body. The police forbade Jiang Yong's family from photographing the body and hit them. Jiang Yong's family demanded an investigation into the true cause of death and to bring the perpetrators to justice. Jiang Yong's body is still stored at the Changchun City Postmortem Examination Center. His family is not allowed access to his body.
More details of Jiang Yong's story follow:
Illegal past-term detention at the Fenjin Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City; righteous thoughts and righteous actions, despite incarceration
After Jiang Yong started practicing Falun Gong in 1998, he conducted himself according to "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." He was sincere and kind, and took worldly fame and interests lightly. He underwent great changes for the better.
With firm belief in Teacher and Falun Gong, Jiang Yong clarified the truth about Falun Gong and saved people in an open and dignified manner. He went to Beijing four times to appeal for Falun Gong, and each time after his return, he shared his experience with fellow practitioners and encouraged them to step forward. Inspired by his righteous belief, many practitioners went to Beijing Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Gong.
On July 20, 2000, Mr. Jiang Yong went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was arrested and sent to the Tiebei Detention Center, where the guards savagely beat him. He refused to write the guarantee statement and refused to watch Falun Gong-slandering TV programs. Later, he was illegally sentenced to one year of forced labor, eventually extended by nine months. He was sent to the Fenjin Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City.
At the labor camp, Jiang Yong, Liu Chengjun (who was later tortured to death) and Liang Zhenxing (who was given a heavy prison sentence and is now being held at the No. 2 Prison in Jilin City) were ruthlessly tortured for persisting in their belief. The guards tortured them with "Sitting the Board" for long periods of time. [1] Furthermore, the guards beat and kicked them, shocked them with electric batons and brainwashed them. Once, when the perpetrators held a so-called "reform meeting," Jiang Yong stood up and shouted, "Falun Dafa is good!" The guards beat him without mercy and detained him in solitary confinement. Jiang Yong developed scabies during detention, which caused unbearable itching and pain. The labor camp authorities refused to release him when his term expired and demanded money from his family. Jiang Yong told his family to absolutely not comply with the extortion attempt.
Around August 2001, Jiang Yong was unconditionally released after enduring over one year of persecution. During his detention, his non-practitioner wife even left home to clarify the truth in support of Falun Gong. She was arrested and sent to a labor camp. Their child was left home alone, uncared for.
Jiang Yong again went to Beijing later on to appeal for Falun Gong. He was then sent to a Beijing Detention Center. Because he refused to give his name and address, the guards beat him and shocked him with electric batons. They poured hydrogen peroxide on his genitals and force-fed him. Jiang Yong could not move and laid on the bare concrete floor. He broke free of his captors after holding an 18-day hunger strike.
Second arrest while in exile; force-feeding and torture imposed
After Jiang Yong returned from the labor camp, perpetrators form the local police department often harassed him at his home. Jiang Yong chose to leave home to avoid further persecution.
On October 26, 2002, Jiang Yong was arrested in Dehui City by perpetrators from the Luyuan Police Department in Changchun City. At Luyuan Police Department, the officers tortured him with the "Big Hang Up" as the guards handcuffed him with his hands behind his back, hung him up by his hands and swung him violently. A few minutes of this torture results in excruciating pain and profuse sweating. They also tortured him with the Tiger Bench. They also subjected him to electric shock and force-feeding with a saline solution.
Jiang Yong was eventually sent to the Tiebei Detention Center in Changchun City for unlawful incarceration, along with practitioners Sun Qian, Zhang Wenfeng and others. He held a hunger strike there and the guards ordered inmates to brutally force-feed him. The inmates hit his stomach and force-fed him with large amount of salt and a little food. After 22 days of such savage torture, Jiang Yong's condition deteriorated drastically and he vomited large amounts of blood. The detention center authorities were afraid of taking responsibility and sent him to a hospital. He was in critical condition. The detention center authorities told his family through the local police department to take him home.
After recovering at home for a while, Jiang Yong was again compelled to go into exile.
One evening in early December 2003, Fan Yongshun, an officer from the Xingfu County Police Department in Nanguan District, led a few police officers and went to Jiang's home. They broke into Jiang Yong's home and ransacked it. Of course, no legal process was followed. Jiang Yong was not home at the time, so they could not arrest him.
Changchun City Police Department Security Division perpetrators follow Jiang Yong and subject him to inhumane torture
On April 13, 2004, Wang Liwen, head of the Changchun City Police Department Security Division, led the division to follow and arrest Jiang Yong. They tortured him with the Tiger Bench, the Big Hang-up, and extended electric shock abuse. They hammered bamboo sticks into Jiang Yong's fingers, force-fed him hot-pepper water, and wrapped his head in a plastic bag to suffocate him. Jiang Yong lost consciousness many times during the torture. Seven other practitioners arrested along with Jiang Yong were also tortured. Practitioner Guo Wenshuai sustained a broken spine from the beatings.
After eight days of nonstop torture, Jiang Yong was at the brink of death, yet the perpetrators refused to release him. On April 21, they took him to Jilin Province Labor Reeducation Hospital and held him there for over a month. On May 26, Jiang Yong was transferred to the Tiebei Detention Center in Changchun City.
Abuse and torture led to death; Jiang Yong's eyes were open at death; his body was covered with injuries
Jiang Yong was further tortured at the Tiebei Detention Center. The guards encouraged the inmates to abuse Jiang Yong physically and mentally, in an effort to cause as much anguish as possible. Jiang Yong constantly faced the threat of death. He firmly resisted the persecution and held a hunger strike. His condition worsened drastically. His family went to the detention center many times and asked to see him, but their request was flatly denied.
At 8:00 p.m. on July 4, 2004, Tiebei Detention Center authorities told Jiang Yong's family, "Jiang Yong had a sudden bout of illness and passed away after rescue efforts failed." They made up a death certificate. When Jiang Yong's family saw his body, they saw a purple scar around his neck where a rope may have been, numerous black and blue patches of skin on his chest and back, his eyes wide open, blood leaking from his mouth when his body was turned over, and his anus padded with tissue paper. Jiang Yong, a once brawny and healthy man, was skin and bones after hunger strikes, force-feeding and savage torture. More than 40 police officers present stopped his family from photographing the body. They snatched a camera from Jiang Yong's family and beat the family members.
Jiang Yong's family pointed out, "Medical common sense tells us that blood leaking from the mouth indicates internal damage, and black and blue coloration on the body undoubtedly indicates physical trauma. His anus was padded with tissue paper and the police doesn't allow any photographs to be taken. The detention center claims 'death from sudden illness;' if this is true, what is wrong with taking a few pictures?"
The next day, when Jiang Yong's family saw his body for the second time, they found that blood had been wiped from the mouth and a large patch of skin of the chest had been bleached to cover up congealed blood, so that it appeared purplish-white. The eyes were closed, and the eyelids were dark blue. Rubbing alcohol, surgical cotton and other medical items were found in the morgue. The previous evidence on the scene had been destroyed, which reveals the attempt to destroy evidence and evade justice on the part of the Security Division and the Tiebei Detention Center.
The Tiebei Detention Center authorities wanted to cremate the body, but Jiang Yong's family firmly refused and urged an investigation into the true cause of death. They also demanded to have the perpetrators brought to justice. The Tiebei Detention Center authorities saw that Jiang Yong's family was very much determined, so they claimed, "Jiang Yong was at the brink of death when he was brought here; we didn't know about it then." The Security Division said, "We are not responsible for his death! It's the Tiebei Detention Center." They passed the ball back and forth and refused to take responsibility.
Because Jiang Yong's family staunchly opposed cremation, Jiang Yong's body remained at the Changchun City Postmortem Examination Center for over a year.
Meanwhile, the perpetrators sent a thug to Jiang Yong's family, who said, "We'll pay you 100,000 yuan to shut up and forget about this." His family refused. Recently, his family demanded to see their loved one's body, but Zhao, head of the Tiebei Detention Center and Wu, the head secretary, made up excuses and refused. They also told his family, "An autopsy must be performed in order to find out the cause of death." We can only assume they plan to destroy evidence of a crime through an "autopsy."
Calling for justice and conscience; punish the real culprits
Jiang Yong's family was devastated by his death. His sister Jiang Shufang went between the detention center, the police department and a private attorney many times. She was emotionally and physically drained and passed away on March 2, 2005 from a sudden heart attack. They left behind their mother, who is blind in both eyes and in her 80s. The mother does not know to this day that her son has died.
Jiang Yong's tragedy is only one of many cases in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. The great majority of the truth about the persecution is concealed and kept from the public. Torture and murder are taking place all the time inside labor camps, prisons, detention centers, brainwashing classes and mental hospitals in China. Words fail to describe the suffering inflicted on Falun Gong practitioners and their families during this catastrophe.
We sincerely ask individuals and organizations to please pay attention to the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Extend a helping hand in ending the torture and murder; bring the real culprits to the courts and restore justice.

Note [1]: Every day, practitioners put their hands on top of their
laps, with
backs straight and sitting on benches 18 hours per day. This continued
for over
fifty days. The authorities even limited practitioners' restroom use
time.
Because of the long time spent sitting on hard benches, practitioners'
buttocks
grew big sores that hurt badly. Practitioners could not even urinate
normally
because of the pain. Because the labor camp was very damp, the police
would not
allow practitioners to have ventilation or the chance to get some
sunlight, and
practitioners were locked up for so long, countless red scabies grew on
the
entire body of the practitioner; they were terribly itchy and painful.
Torture Methods in the Fuxin and Huludao Labor Camps
In mid-May of 2001, the Fuxin Labor Camp doctor force-fed Lu Hongwei. Half a dozen inmates pinned Lu onto a metal bed, pinched his nose, and emptied a bucket of highly concentrated salt water into his mouth. The water flooded into Lu's lungs, causing him to suffocate. The prison doctor, however, ordered inmates to stuff a mop into Lu's mouth to prevent him from catching a breath. Lu lost consciousness due to suffocation. He was then hung upside down, and a large amount of salt water flowed out of his mouth. In one day, Lu lost consciousness twice.

Picture 2 (demonstration) |
After Lu was sent back to the cell, he suffered lung inflammation and vomited large amounts of yellow pus. On the brink of death, Lu was carried to the Second Division main office, where half a dozen officers shocked him with 4 electric batons. Two high-voltage batons were tightly pressed against his temples. Another was used to beat his head, and the last one was used beat him all over the body. Lu passed out several times during the torture. (Picture 1, Picture 2)
On June 28, 2001, police transferred Lu and two other Falun Gong practitioners to the Benxi Labor Camp. Seeing the severe physical injuries these practitioners sustained, the Benxi camp refused to admit them. These practitioners were then transferred to the Fu Xin Detention Center. The guards threatened him by saying, "This is where you will die."
On July 11, police transferred Lu Hongwei, who had barely recovered, to the Huludao Labor Camp and put him solitary confinement. In October, Lu went on a hunger strike to protest against the illegal imprisonment. On the fourth day of his hunger strike, the deputy Prison Chief Yao Chuang, the prison doctor Wang Dazhu, an official named Tong from the Department of Education, and seven guards beat Lu with six electric batons. Wang Dazhu brutally broke Lu's left kneecap, deformed his face, and caused his mouth to blister from the electric shocks. During Lu's hunger strike, Wang Dazhu has also ordered inmates to shackle Lu's limbs onto a bed in a star shape. Wang also remove the lower part of the bed frame, leaving behind only a 10 cm-wide wooden plank below Lu's head, back, and feet. Lu was hung in this manner for 34 days; his excrement dropped around the bed. Wang Dahu also poured hard liquor and beer into Lu's stomach through a force-feeding tube and claimed that, "The prison director told me to give you alcohol, because Falun Gong practitioners don't drink," Practitioners Zhang Xuan and Wang Hongting sustained similar persecution. The skin on their bodies and faces was charred by electric shocks.
Brutal Torture in the former Chaoyang County Police Station, County Detention Center in Chaoyang City
In 2003, the Chaoyang County police brutally interrogated Lu, causing him to bleed profusely. The next day, the deputy chief of the detention center Hao Naifeng tortured Lu for a long time with electric batons. During the force feeding, Hao used bamboo sticks to pry open Lu's mouth and inserted a thumb-wide plastic tube into Lu's throat. Hao repeatedly pulled the hard tube in and out for several hours. Additionally, Hao used a special torture instrument that pins Lu onto a wooden plank. (Picture 4)
Brutal Torture Methods in the former Longcheng Police Department in Chaoyang City
Longcheng Police in Chaoyang uses a variety of torture instruments to persecute Falun Gong practitioners--bamboo poles, belts, handcuffs, and electric batons to name a few.
The photographs above demonstrate a few of the torture methods used by Longcheng police in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Main perpetrators in the persecution include Police Division Section Leader Huang Dianxiang, Han Yasheng, and Sun Xudong. These criminals usually carry out brutal interrogations in the night. Over the years, their hands have been awash with practitioners' blood. Practitioner Yu Xiuling died in the hands of Huang Diansheng.
Huang Dianxiang is now the head of the National Security Team in the Chaoyang City Police Department: 86-421-2614849 (Office)
Han Yasheng was also transferred. Xinhua District Police still persecutes Falun Gong practitioners: 86-421-2686897 86-13050915903 (Cell)
Persecution of Falun Gong practitioners by the Shijia Hetao Detention Center in Chaoyang City
Guards in this center regularly torture imprisoned practitioners. The resident doctor Xu Sheng also participates in the persecution. The photographs below demonstrate the torture methods used there to persecute practitioners during force-feeding.
Force-feeding practitioners (Demonstration)
The Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City is a place where officials of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) brutally torture Falun Gong practitioners. It is notorious for its brutality. The following are my personal experiences, and I want to disclose them here to expose the perpetrators' atrocities.
All of the practitioners sent to this camp are forced to renounce their belief in Falun Gong. Those who refuse would be brainwashed by a group of people day and night without being allowed to sleep. If they still refuse, criminals would be incited to abuse and otherwise beat and torture them. Those steadfast practitioners were secretly transferred to another forced labor camp for more savage persecution based on instructions from the Changchun Judiciary Bureau. Since 2004, practitioners Jin Qihui, Dong Zhe, Tian Zidong and others were subjected to this terrible process.
At the beginning of 2005, CCP officials started a so-called "Strengthen the Advanced Nature" nationwide campaign. This was done partly to gain public support for the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Shortly after the Chinese Lunar New Year, official Wang Xiaoming held an "all-hands" meeting to encourage forcible reformation of Falun Gong practitioners. A "reformation rate" of over 90% was set at the meeting. People attending the meeting were told that if they could not achieve this goal, they would qualify for participation in the "six zeros" competition within the Changchun Judiciary Bureau. In other words, how well they can torture and force practitioners turn against Falun Gong is directly correlated to their compensation.
On March 28, 2005, the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp announced its implementation of policies from the Changchun Judiciary Bureau. The document stated that anyone not reformed would not be released, even if their terms were up. Instead, their terms would be extended by 50% again until they were eventually "reformed." For those who are reformed, a probation period of three months would go into effect, and even when this time is up, their release is still not assured. The Changchun Judiciary Bureau could issue a new document at any time. Sometimes a release permit was issued and declared invalid only a few minutes later.
Adopting an implication policy to threaten and intimidate family members of Falun Gong practitioners; creating conflicts among them and the practitioners so as to intensify the persecution
They used shameless tactics to coerce family members to aid in the persecution. For example, if Falun Gong practitioners were not "reformed," their relatives would lose their jobs, right to schooling, housing vouchers and other necessities. In the face of this unconstitutional persecution, just in order to survive, people dared not to seek justice for their family members. They are forced to let the authorities use them to help "reform" the practitioners.
Scenes like these have become commonplace: parents cried to persuade a son to be "reformed;" a young wife carried their child to the forced labor camp, crying and quarreling, and used divorce to demand the husband to be "reformed"; a thirteen or fourteen year old middle school student cried to tell his father to be "reformed" because he could not pay tuition and would be expelled from school, and other such heart-wrenching episodes. If the practitioner would not give in, crying, begging, kneeling down before that person, even scolding and beating, would be the next steps. Then the prison guards would appear sympathetic to the family, and then blame or even beat Falun Gong practitioners, to appear to be "siding with" their family members. The guards staged those family tragedies to mislead other prisoners into thinking that Falun Gong practitioners are cold-hearted people who don't care about their parents, spouse and children. Afterwards, the persecution would become even more vicious. People who didn't know the truth got the wrong impression and even bore hatred toward Falun Gong, Master and Falun Gong practitioners. Consequently, these misguided individuals used ever more sinister ways to work with the police to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.
Police, together with prisoners, torture Falun Gong practitioners
The Changchun Judiciary Bureau officials promised police large amounts of bonuses and promotions as a reward and promised prisoners who earned high scores that they can use these for term reduction, which caused them to persecute Falun Gong practitioners even more. As a result, many practitioners died or became disabled. Falun Gong practitioner Liu Ziwei from Baishan City, Jilin Province, incarcerated at the former No. 5 Division, was killed this way. The prisoners even say publicly, "Wasn't Liu Ziwei's death in vain?"
Some of the abuse perpetrated against Falun Gong practitioners
Being handcuffed backward to a metal bed involved cuffing both hands of a practitioner behind the back and stretching them as much as they can, and then linking the handcuff to a metal bed. After some time, the handcuffs would cut deeply into the flesh. The pain in both arms would become unbearable. Some even ruptured a tendon or fractured a bone.
Shocking with electric baton is the most widely used torture method. The baton's voltage was as high as more than ten thousand volts. One could not help jumping when shocked. Sometimes, several such batons would shock one practitioner simultaneously on the head, face, mouth, anus, and other private parts. Sometimes it would last one to several hours. Sometimes it would continue for several days.
Kicking the kidney area led to incontinence of both bowel and bladder.
Other forms of abuse include hitting the back and legs with a baton, punching in the head, removing toenails, burning the feet, finger and mouth with an open flame, and long-term sleep deprivation.
Deputy head of the No. 4 Division Chen Ligui is one of the worst offenders of abusing practitioners.
Fabricating false theories to deceive Falun Gong practitioners
Former practitioners, who turned against Falun Gong under pressure and abuse, Wang Zhigang, Pu Chengjun, Zhu Jiahui and a lay Buddhist named Chen from the Judiciary Bureau were ordered to come and give lectures about their false theories. They slandered Falun Gong and twisted its meaning at will.
Covering up the bloody abuse
To prevent their bloody atrocities against Falun Gong practitioners from being exposed to the world, the forced labor camp took three steps:
A group of people with severe tuberculosis was detained at the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp. Falun Gong practitioners Liu Wen from Siping City was diagnosed with the disease shortly after. Based on prison regulations, Liu Wen should be out on parole for medical treatment or living under surveillance, but his family members' repeated attempts to get him medical treatment ended up in vain.
The above are merely a part of what happened from between March and May of 2005 in the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp under instructions from the Changchun Judiciary Bureau to intensify the brainwashing and torture of Falun Gong practitioners. I wanted to expose their atrocities here to awaken the public, so that we can end the persecution together.
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Sun Peijie, former head of the Zhangpan Township Civil Administration Bureau in Xuchang County, Henan Province, was illegally sentenced to four years in prison in 2001. He was tortured to the brink of death at the Xinmi Prison in Zhengzhou City, and he passed away on August 19, 2005.
Practitioner Sun Peijie was 39 years old. He had a bachelor's degree and lived in Wei Village, Wunudian Town, Xuchang County, Henan Province, where he worked as the head of Zhangpan Township Civil Administration Bureau. He was cured of pleurisy and other illnesses after he started practicing Falun Gong in early 1998. He went to Beijing twice to appeal for justice for Falun Gong after the persecution began in 1999 and returned safely from both trips.
In November 2001, Sun Peijie was reported when distributing truth clarification flyers in the street. He was illegally sentenced to four years in prison, and was held and tortured at the Xinmi Prison in Zhengzhou City. During the detention he resisted the persecution by refusing to wear an inmate's uniform and refusing to follow the perpetrators' orders. He held a hunger strike and was held in solitary confinement at length, during which time he was savagely tortured.
The prison authorities told his family to take Sun Peijie home when he was skin and bones and showed symptoms of severe illness. He passed away on August 19, 2005.
Mr. Shang Kunfeng, a Falun Gong practitioner from Zhengding County, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province was illegally sentenced in 2002 by the Intermediate Court of Shijiazhuang to seven years in prison. He is now illegally detained in the Fourth Prison of Hebei Province. News of his imprisonment spread widely and evoked great repercussions all over the cities and counties of Shijiazhuang. Those who were familiar with Shang Kunfeng said to each other, "To sentence such a good person as Shang Kunfeng with such a heavy punishment makes it look like the Chinese Communist Party will be perishing soon."
After graduating with a bachelor's degree, Shang Kunfeng started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. In Zhengding County, he assumed the position of minister of an organizational department, deputy head of the county in charge of day-to-day business, as well as deputy chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. After practicing Falun Gong, Shang Kunfeng improved himself according to Falun Gong's principles of "Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance." At work and in all other activities, he showed people the high xinxing standard of a practitioner and was an exceptional worker.
During the time that Mr. Shang assumed the position of minister of the organizational department, his work had been rated as first rate three times for three years in succession within the Shijiazhuang City area, as the best among all the counties. When he assumed the position of deputy head of the county in charge of day-to-day business, the department under his leadership was chosen as a "model unit" in the city or province where it was located every year. As an honest and diligent model citizen during that time, Shang Kunfeng assumed many leadership roles, while refusing more than 200 thousand yuan in gift money and almost one million yuan in bribes. (Because of multi-layered corruption within the government, it has become a common practice to give officials gifts or money.) During holidays or festivals, he refused all the gifts and money that invariably came his way. With regard to those gifts he could not return, Mr. Shang sent all of them to the department of civil administration, and delivered others under the name of the county government to local old folks' homes. As for the gift money he could not return, he sent it under the name of the county government to poor farms, mailed it to old folks' homes in Shijiazhuang City, or mailed it to poor farmers in some mountainous areas outside of the province.
Shang Kunfeng became indifferent to fame and personal gain, devoting himself wholeheartedly to the service of the people. He never went to any officers of higher rank to ask for a promotion, never misused his power in the lower-level public security organs, procuratorial organs, people's courts, and other departments of the government. In Zhengding County, people called Shang Kunfeng the "Nine-no" county head: no smoking, no alcohol, no mahjong (a Chinese gambling game similar to cards), no dancing, no car driving, no undeserved promotions, no sexual relationships outside marriage, no gifts or gift money, and no favors done to anybody in resolving a case.
However, because of his practice of Falun Gong, Shang Kunfeng was illegally removed from the office of deputy head of the county at the end of 1999. This resulted in many complaints from people all over the county.
In 2001, an upsurge of persecuting Falun Gong was set off in Zhengding County. More than 20 Falun Gong practitioners were illegally arrested. Shang Kunfeng could no longer tolerate it and left the county in anger, protesting the persecution. This caused a panic within the local government. To find and arrest Shang Kunfeng, the police department of Zhengding County harassed his relatives and drivers one by one, and sent many people to Beijing, Baoding, Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan, and Handan to watch his every move. This illegal persecution of Shang Kunfeng wasted over a million yuan and squandered a large amount of the people's labor and money.
On Chinese New Year's Eve of 2002, a number of officers from the 610 Office of Zhengding County arrested Mr. Shang's wife Sun Shuqin and detained her secretly for more than one month in order to force her to tell them Shang Kunfeng's whereabouts. In October 2002, Shang Kunfeng was illegally arrested in Lincheng County, and detained in Lincheng first, then Shenze, Luquan and other places. After suffering brutal torture, he was sentenced to a heavy prison term and is now detained in the Fourth Prison of Hebei Province.
When the news spread far and wide that the Shijiazhuang Intermediate Court illegally sentenced Shang Kunfeng, strong repercussions were evoked all over the counties of Shijiazhuang City. Flustered and exasperated, those persons who persecuted him wanted to find some supporting evidence for the arrest. They made an investigation, which lasted for more than three months, on Shang Kunfeng's economic and social dealings during the time he assumed administrative positions. What they wanted was to find some sort of financial problems so that they could further frame Falun Gong practitioners and smear the reputation of Falun Gong. However, much to their dismay, the result of the investigation was that during the 8-year period when Shang Kunfeng assumed those positions of leadership, he was perfectly clean.
At four o'clock in the morning on June 22, 2005, while taking photos in front of the Hongshi Town Government Hotel where brainwashing classes were being held, Falun Gong practitioner Liu Yuhe from Huadian City, Jilin Province was detained by Yu Jinji from National Security Team of Huadian City Public Security Bureau and Fan Zhongshan from Hongshi Town Police Station. Mr. Liu was taken to the Huadian City Public Security Bureau. At around noon, Yu Jinji and four people from Jilin City Public Security Bureau subjected him to torture and extorted a confession from him.
They locked Mr. Liu on a tiger bench. Initially they beat him up. Then they put a helmet on him and shook it forcefully. They call it the "brain shaking machine". They shook it for over four hours. Later they locked his hand behind his back with a small handcuff. Two of them pushed Mr. Liu's elbows forcefully and caused him much pain, as if his arms had been broken. They also tied him up with string and two policemen stood on his side wrapping his mouth with a long towel and exerting all their strength to pull two ends of the towel in opposite directions so that he could not yell. The people from Jilin City Public Security Bureau filled his nose with horseradish several times. The torture caused severe trauma to his brain. He often felt dizzy and seemed distracted. His left thumb and forefinger are still numb.
During Liu Yuhe's torture, one of the policemen told him: "I have beaten several Falun Gong practitioners to death. Don't you have heart disease? I will beat you to death without leaving any scar on you and I will tell your family that you died from a recurrence of heart disease, or you committed suicide because you dreaded punishment for your crime. We won't bear any legal consequence and we simply execute orders from our boss. When dealing with Falun Gong practitioners like you, we can beat you to death and you die for nothing, and your death will be counted as suicide."
After being subjected to torture and forced into making a confession, Liu Yuhe was imprisoned in a detention center, where he went on hunger strike to resist the persecution.
Cruel torture caused the recurrence of Mr. Liu's heart disease and gastric ulcer. Jail doctor Li Gui, officers from Hongshi Town Police Station, and Jiang Hongmei from public security bureau took him to Huadian City Town Hospital for force-feeding and forced-transfusion. He passed out at the door of the Town Hospital. After he woke up, jail doctor Li Gui dragged him to the stairs by pulling the shackle on his foot with both his hands. Doctors in the hospital said they have stretchers, but Li Gui said it was not necessary and he only needed to drag him up to the stairs. An officer from the police station got two people who ride delivery tricycles and had them drag the handcuffed and shackled Mr. Liu to the top of the stairs. His hands and feet felt like they were broken.
Li Gui, Yang Shuhong from the Town Hospital, Jiang Hongmei from the public security bureau and two officers from the police station violently force-fed Liu Yuhe. They tied him to a bed. Jiang stepped on the shackle, handcuffed him behind his back and then stepped on the handcuff too. Yet another policeman grabbed Mr. Liu's hair. Li Gui gave the order and Yang Shuhong inserted the tube. Mr. Liu's mouth and nostril were scratched and bleeding. He was force-fed and transfused, then taken back to the detention center. Four days later, Liu Yuhe suffered a recurrence of heart disease and passed out. He was taken to the Town Hospital for treatment and became a little better, then he was taken back to the detention center. Mr. Liu's family was asked to bring medicine in to maintain his health.
On July 21, in order to send Liu Yuhe to a labor camp, Yu Jinji from the public security bureau and jail doctor Li Gui brought Mr. Liu to City Hospital for a physical examination. The result showed that he suffered from arrhythmia and tachycardia (the diagnosis record is available). But the next day, July 22, Yu Jinji colluded with Jiutai Labor Camp to send Mr. Liu to the Jiutai Labor Camp, even though he was severely ill and had not passed the physical examination.
The Public Security Bureau did not follow any legal procedures for sending Mr. Liu to the labor camp. It was completely illegal.
Yu Jinji and other police also confiscated Liu Yuhe's private property: a digital camera, a cell phone, a motorcycle, driver's license, identity card, one hundred and sixty yuan in cash, security hat, four articles of clothing, waistband, and so on.
Because Liu Yuhe refused to give up his faith, director Li and director Yang in Jiutai Labor Camp beat him cruelly and tied him up on the bed. Now they force him to sit for seven hours every day without allowing him to move a bit. They also impose a variety of physical punishments on him.

2. Torture Cases in the Shayang Forced Labor Camp
Mr. Ma Xueyun is a 43-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Jinmen
City, Hubei
Province. He was sent to the Shayang Forced Labor Camp in August 2004.
He has
resisted the persecution by refusing to do forced labor. Prison Guard
He
Bingyong (male) ordered inmate Chen Daihua (male) to hang two heavy
sandbags
around Mr. Ma's neck from morning until afternoon. He Bingyong saw that
this
torture could not make Mr. Ma Xueyun give in, so he ordered others to
shock him
for over an hour using 50,000 volt electric batons. This left Mr. Ma
Xueyun with
two huge black holes on his thigh from where he had been burnt by the
electric
current.
Mr. Zheng Dejun is around 35 years old and is a Falun Gong practitioner
from
Yichang City, Hubei Province. He was sent to the Shayang Forced Labor
Camp for
the second time in 2004. Due to his refusal to give in to the evil
persecution,
Ward Leader Lu Wenjun (male) directed prisoners to cruelly beat,
torture, and
shock him with electric batons. Nothing could move him. Hence, Lu
Wenjun ordered
him to be locked up with three prisoners, who took turns watching him,
not
allowing him to see any sunlight, not allowing him to wash, and only
allowing
him to sleep four hours per day, and not allowing him to read or talk,
isolating
him completely in a small room.
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Feng Haihua, 40, was sent to the Shayang
Labor Camp
in January 2005. Prison Guard Wei Peng (male) instructed prisoners Chen
Daihua
(male) and Xiao Yong (male) to beat Mr. Feng brutally and to torture
him by only
allowing him to have two hours of sleep per night while still making
him do
heavy labor during the day. They conducted brainwashing sessions during
the
nights. If he resisted, he was shocked with electric batons. He has
been
tortured like this for three months.
