Ms. Liu Yu is a Falun Gong practitioner from Shenzhen City in Guangdong Province. She is around 30 years old and a graduate from the University of Science and Technology in Beijing. She worked as a news reporter for Wei Hui Newspaper and later as a trainer at a school in Shenzhen City. She was illegally arrested in Shenzhen on the morning of March 30, 2005. This is the fourth time she has been arrested.

Ms. Liu Yu went through two illegal court trials after being arrested this time. She kept her thoughts and actions righteous during the court trials. In the second trial at the Longgang Court in Shenzhen City on March 20, 2006, the female judge, Jia Yu, who was infamous for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, did not allow Ms. Liu Yu's relatives or friends to attend, nor did she allow Ms. Liu Yu to defend herself. Ms. Liu Yu was sentenced to four years in prison. Ms. Liu Yu appealed her case to the Shenzhen City Intermediate People's Court, but there has not been any answer yet. Ms. Liu Yu's situation was very difficult, but she remained firmly committed to protecting Falun Gong. The following is her own statement about the torture to which she was subjected, written in the detention center.

My Experience of Being Arrested, Imprisoned and Force-fed

Location of abduction: My home in Buji District, Shenzhen City

    Date: March 30, 2005

Details: I went home for lunch that day. When I climbed up the stairs to the fourth floor, I saw many pieces of what appeared to be my furniture piled in the corridor. When I got closer, security guard Che told me, "Your home has been broken-into." I rushed to my apartment and saw that both the security door and the inner door of my apartment were broken. Many security guards and policemen, uniformed and plain-clothed, stood in both the corridor and in my apartment. My things were strewn everywhere. Clearly, my home had been ransacked. Two policemen arrested my friend who was visiting me. He was on the sofa with both hands tied behind his back and his feet cuffed.

I asked them, "What are you doing here?" A voice shouted back, "Who are you?" I answered, "I am the owner of the apartment. What are you doing here?" Another crazy voice shouted, "We are here to arrest you." Two big men attempted to arrest me, but failed. Two more men jumped in. They tied my hands behind my back with thick black electrical cord and kept threatening and insulting me. My hands turned dark purple as the circulation had been cut off by the tight knots. A male plainclothes policeman, Liu, from the Shenzhen City 610 Office, who was in his forties, and around five feet seven inches tall, with a square face and very short hair, and with a Northeast accent, was the most vicious among them.

I asked him, "What's your name? Where do you work? Why did you come to my home?" I also told them, "If you keep saying bad things I will sue you for libel." I then asked them, "Did I kill anyone?" They answered, "No." I continued, "Did I set a fire somewhere?" They answered, "No." I then asked policeman Liu, "Did I hurt you?" He answered, "No." I asked, "Then why are you abducting me?" He could not answer. I continued asking, "What's your name? Where do you work?" No answer. "Are you afraid of telling me your name?" Only silence. They did not dare to answer me, nor did they show any certificate or legal document proving their identity or the legality of their conduct.

I said, "You have a wife, brothers and sisters. If they were treated the way I have been today, what would you do?" That evildoer Liu was afraid of me repeating this question. He threatened me and beat me, shouting, "Doesn't Falun Gong teach you not to hit back when hit and not to curse back when cursed? I am hitting you!"

He beat me in front of a dozen people. I said calmly, "Everyone here has his family, wife, brothers and sisters. What would you do if your relatives were beaten? If you didn't come into my home in this intrusive way, I would treat you as nicely as I treat my relatives. You are wrong in treating me like this. You are wrong in being utilized by others to persecute me. A practitioner will not hit back when hit or curse back when cursed. I can forgive you and forget everything. But you all have your own consciences. And there are gods a few feet above you watching the crime that you committed here. You will be punished by gods. How pitiful you are."

Another policemen (around 38 years old, five feet seven inches tall, with pale yellow skin, big eyes, a wide face, and wearing a light yellow striped jacket) insulted me and my friend, too. He and the evildoer Liu took away my valuables, just like gangsters. They tried to threaten me with vicious stares. I looked back at them with courage and justice, and continued to send forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil forces behind them. They did not dare to look at me any longer.

Also present was policeman Luo in plain clothes, policeman Li Zhiwei (around 26, five feet six inches tall, with small eyes and in plain clothes) from Luogang Police Station in Shenzhen City, another policeman (five feet seven inches tall, with a long white face, in a gray shirt), a policeman whose police ID number is 064534 (or 064354) (in his forties, dark and overweight, from Guangdong Province), a policewoman whose police ID number started with 064 (five feet one inch tall, short and thin, with short hair and glasses), two policewomen in plain clothes, policeman Qiu in plain clothes, four patrolling policemen and two security guards.

Policeman Liu in black plain clothes was scared when he heard that they would be punished. He asked me immediately, "When will I be punished? When do you think I will be punished?"

They took my friend and I to the Luogang Police Station and interrogated us. Policeman Li Zhiwei insulted me again during the interrogation and shouted, "I am insulting you, slandering you. What can you do?" I stared at him forcefully. Gradually he was no longer that crazy and did not dare to look at me any longer. Their interrogation received only silence in return.

The next morning, my friend and I were taken to the Longgang People's Hospital for a physical examination. Later we were put in Huanggekeng Detention Center in Longgang District, Shenzhen City. I was put into the Fourteenth Cell where I met practitioner Xiao Ajiao. I continued to protest the arrest. I was separated from Xiao Ajiao and sent to the Fifteenth Cell on March 31, 2005. Two of us started a hunger strike in protest of our detention. Guard Xiao who was in charge of the Fifteenth Cell met me every day for three days to ask me to eat.

The Detention Center deputy director Zeng met me on April 1 and April 2. He also brought Doctor He, whose police ID number was 064224 to meet me again on the morning of April 3. Doctor He showed me a list of practitioners whom they force-fed when they were on hunger strike at the detention center. Doctor He threatened to force-feed me. In the afternoon of April 3, deputy director Zeng and Doctor He met me again. I pointed out to Doctor He that he had committed a lot of sins at his job in persecuting practitioners and would be punished later. I suggested that he change his job. His face turned blue and purple and he left from the meeting. I then clarified the truth to deputy director Zeng, talking about those facts that have been discovered but are not explainable by the scientific community, including the fact that the practice can make a person free from illness where the doctors cannot. Deputy director Zeng could not explain these things either. He said that he believed that qigong had its own scientific foundation. He also expressed clearly that he would not allow anyone to force-feed me when I was conscious.

The political instructor of the detention center talked to me on April 4, trying to persuade me to eat. I clarified the truth to him and told him that the police department just kept making more trouble for detention centers by arresting Falun Gong practitioners and sending them to detention centers. He had nothing to say.

Policemen Qiu and Luo and another person whose police ID number was 064227 interrogated me on the evening of April 5, 2005. They did not get anything from me, and the interrogation ended with no recording at all.

On Wednesday April 6, 2005, policeman He, whose police ID number was 064224, threatened me with an evil attitude. He said they would start force-feeding me. I did not talk to him.

On April 7, Doctor Li warned me that they might start force-feeding me on April 8.

On the morning of April 8, 2005, policewoman Xu took me to the health clinic. I turned back and tried to leave, but she and another policeman whose police ID number was 064224, forcibly dragged me from the door to a separate room inside and pushed me onto the bed. Then came another five policemen. Two held my feet and two held my hands to tie me to the bed. A thin male doctor, around twenty-five, and five feet six inches tall, held my head. A doctor in white clothes, over fifty, with a lot of wrinkles on his face, used ropes to tie my four limbs. He also shouted, "I want to hear the pig cries when we slaughter it." I used all my strength to resist, but I was not able to deal with so many people. I was then savagely force-fed. Two nurses inserted a plastic tube into my nose. The tube touched my throat and I shook violently from the discomfort. Both my throat and stomach were in great pain from the tube insertion. I felt humiliated and injured. All of my limbs were numb, as I was not able to move at all. They kept moving the tube up and down inside my stomach.

Right after the force-feeding, Officer Peng from the Longgang Police Station, along with policemen Qiu and Luo came to interrogate me. My four limbs were numb, convulsing and immobile. I could not think clearly either. But they kept asking me to cooperate with them, "Liu Yu, you must cooperate with us." I asked him, "What's your name." "My last name is Peng. I am responsible for your case. You can call me policeman Peng." I asked him again, "What's your whole name?" He did not answer. Instead, he asked me, "Do you have anything to say to me?" I said, "Release me immediately!" They saw that my whole body was in convulsions and the interrogation could not be continued. So they sent me back to the health clinic and left.

When I recovered a little bit, under police officer Peng's insistence, deputy director Zeng threatened me to cooperate with them. I answered in silence. He yelled, "Do you have anything to say to me?" I answered, "Release me immediately!"

I was sent back to the Fifteenth Cell. I bit my lips in sorrow to the point of bleeding and they swelled quite a bit. Tears kept coming from my eyes. I repeatedly visualized the scenes from their savage force-feeding and continuous interrogations. I decided to eat. I continued doing the exercises, but the inmates did not allow me to do so. I looked straight at them and continued my exercises. Then they said nothing. When I sat in lotus position, looking back on my short journey in the human world, I did not regret a bit my decisions on what to choose and what to give up. I understand the real meaning of life is to return to my true home.

Note: During the past several years, the Longgang Detention Center in Shenzhen City has repeatedly force-fed and tortured Falun Gong practitioners who go on hunger strike to protest the persecution. The old doctor who force-fed Ms. Liu Yu received retribution and died around October 1, 2005.

Ms. Liu Xiufang from Qingdao City, Shandong Province Is Homeless Again Due to Continuous Persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Xiufang is from Qingdao City, Shandong Province. During the past few years, she has been repeatedly persecuted for her belief in Falun Gong. She has been "illegally sentenced" to forced labor and detained in a mental hospital. Her newly built home and yard walls have also been destroyed. In June 2006, she was forced to leave home again to avoid further persecution.

Ms. Liu is a housewife who lives in Shuangbu Village, Liuting Town in the Chengyang District of Qingdao City. Her husband is an employee of Qingdao Steel Factory. Before practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from many diseases including gastritis, anemia, and bronchitis. After she began the practice of Falun Gong in May 1997, all of her illnesses disappeared. This gave her family hope for their future.

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) banned Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Ms. Liu and seven other practitioners set off for Beijing to appeal on behalf of the practice. However, they were arrested in Wuli County, Shandong Province. The policemen from their local Liuting Frontier Police Station took them back and detained them in the town government building. The local government officials forced them to watch TV programs slandering Falun Gong, and tried to force them to write statements promising to give up the Falun Gong practice.

On October 6, 2000, when Ms. Liu and another female practitioner went to Beijing to clarify the truth about Falun Gong, the police arrested them in the Tianjin City bus station. The Tianjin police notified the Liuting Frontier Police Station, the Liuting Town Government, and her village about their detention. The next day, police officer Zhao from Liuting Frontier Police Station took them back to the local police district (near Nugu Village). Both practitioners were then transferred to the Dashan Detention Center in Qingdao City.

A month later, they were transferred back to Nugu Police District. There, they went on a hunger strike. The authorities forced them to read books and newspapers that smeared Falun Gong, and used other tactics, including instigating family members who were deceived by the CCP lies to try to convince them to give up the practice. One windy and cold night, the guards opened all the windows of the room where Ms. Liu and other practitioners wearing only thin clothes were detained.

Three days later, they were sentenced to three years of forced labor. When they refused the sentence, police officers Zhao and five to six other officers picked them up and put them into a police car.

On November 14, 2000, Ms. Liu was sent to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp. The labor camp however, refused to accept her because they found in a physical check-up that she had a heart disease. Before releasing Ms. Liu, Jiao Chunhong, an official from Liuting Town Government, and officials from Shuangbu village lied to and tricked Ms. Liu's mother-in-law into paying a 10,000 yuan fine by telling her, "Your daughter-in-law is sick."

Ms. Liu's 70-year-old mother-in-law was at home alone and had to struggle in the pouring rain to borrow money and send it to the village government. But Zhang Xungui, the secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Shuangbu Village, threatened to demolish Ms. Liu's new home to the ground because she hadn't paid the property fee, and asked the poor old lady to pay the money right away. The mother-in-law was so frightened that she knelt down immediately. Although they forced her to borrow another 3,200 yuan, the perpetrators still shut off the electricity to Ms. Liu's home for two years.

One month later on December 18, Ms. Liu Xiufang and Ms. Zhou Yanling went to Beijing again to tell people the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong. When they were preparing to unfurl their banner that read "Falun Dafa Is Good," the police on Tiananmen Square beat and kicked them and pushed them into a police car. The policemen then beat them up again in the car and took them to Tiananmen Square Police Station. Then they were sent to the Office of Qingdao City in Beijing. There they were kicked by an officer when they were doing the Falun Gong exercises. The next day, Jiao Chunhong, an official of Liuting Frontier Police Station and Liuting Town Government, along with Jiang Chongjun, the associate director of Shuangbu Village, escorted them back to Liuting Frontier Police Station and forced them to sit on a hard bench around the clock for thirteen consecutive days. Although Ms. Liu was diagnosed with anemia on the second day after arriving at the police station, she was still forced to sit on the hard bench.

While she was detained at the police station, Zhang Xungui, the Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of Shuangbu Village, ordered Jiang Chongjin to demolish Ms. Liu's new home and yard walls with a forklift truck. Although Ms. Liu didn't pass the physical examination and should have been immediately released, Zhang Xungui didn't release her for fifteen days.

    The Detention Notification Statement

On the fifteenth day, Ms. Liu's family was scheduled to pick her up at 4:00 p.m. Ms. Liu, however, had already been transferred to China-Kore Mental Hospital in Li Village at around 10:00 a.m. by Liuting Frontier police officers Chen Wen, Hu Naijing and Zhao.

At the mental hospital, police director Chen Wen from Liuting Frontier Police Station, went to do the paperwork. Ms. Liu found out that practitioner Ms. Zhou Yanling had been brought to the hospital three days earlier because she was pregnant. Later, a male doctor tried to take their blood. Ms. Liu refused to cooperate. The practitioners went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

The next morning, a total of eight doctors and nurses tried to inject an unknown drug into Ms. Liu. When she refused, a male doctor dragged her to the bed and tightly bound her. Another male doctor then knelt on her chest and hit her temple.

Ms. Liu was helpless in this position and they were able to intravenously give her the unknown drug for seven consecutive days. She eventually got out of the hospital with her strong righteous thoughts but was forced into homelessness.

Jiao Chunhong and Xiao Qiude from the Liuting Town Government went to Ms. Liu's husband's workplace and forced him to leave work in order to look for her. The police officers from the Chengyang District also went to the 49th Middle School of Qingdao City where Ms. Liu's son was and threatened him. They brought Ms. Liu's husband to Liuting Frontier Police Station where he suffered from abdominal pain because he got so angry.

In February 2002, when Ms. Liu, her elder sister Ms. Liu Xiuzhen, and Mr. Yang Naijian (Ms. Liu Xiuzhen's son) were distributing truth-clarification materials in Xianjiazhai Village, Liuting District, Qingdao City, they were reported to the police. Six militia members headed by the security director of Xianjiazhai Village and three policemen from Liuting Police Station then arrested them and brought them to Liuting Police Station. Mr. Yang Naijian was beaten and his face was covered with blood.

At the police station, the police held Ms. Liu's arms and seized her handbag. They deceived her into telling them her name. Then they handcuffed her and threw her into a small dark cell with bloodstains all over the walls. At night, they handcuffed her to the door of the cell and didn't allow her use the restroom.

On February 24, 2002, Ms. Liu Xiufang and Ms. Liu Xiuzhen were transferred to the Dashan Detention Center of Qingdao.

On March 19, Liuting Frontier police officer Wang Jizhu and officer Wang sent Ms. Liu and her sister to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Liu was diagnosed with heart disease and high blood pressure during the medical check-up. The manager of the Wangcun Second Women's Forced Labor Camp refused to accept her. Wang Jizhu swore that he would send her in even if he had to spend his own money to bribe the labor camp. In the end, the police somehow made the labor camp accept Ms. Liu.

Ms. Liu held a hunger strike to protest the persecution. The prison guards encouraged other detainees to keep her awake day and night and deceive her into compromising. After she couldn't endure the torture, Ms. Liu signed the so-called three statements. The next day she realized that what she had done was wrong, but she didn't have the courage to withdraw her statements. The director and the associate director of the team forced her to do hard labor. She often had to work until 10:00 p.m. They also forced her to watch TV shows condemning Falun Gong and to write down her feelings after watching the shows. She had to finish the report no matter how late it was. Sometimes, she had to continue writing until midnight or into the next morning. The next morning, if what she wrote didn't satisfy the prison guard, she was required to rewrite it. While suffering both physically and mentally, Ms. Liu started to feel dizzy and became neurasthenic. Still, she had to continue working. When a guard brought her to the hospital for an exam, the doctor said she was fine. However, she got weaker and more fatigued. Later, a doctor performed an electrocardiogram on her and found a serious problem, and gave her medication. The forced labor camp had to contact Liuting Frontier Police Station, Liuting Police Station, and Chengyang District Police Department of Qingdao City.

To avoid being held responsible for her death, the forced labor camp ordered Ms. Liu's family to take her home on July 24.

At home, the officials from Shuangbu Village continued to harass Ms. Liu's family under pressure from the 610 Office. Wang Zhihong from the local 610 Office, along with Wang, the former head of Political and Security Section of Chengyang Police District, Chen Wen, director of Liuting Frontier Police Station, and officials from the town government disturbed Ms. Liu three times a day and ordered her to write a report.

In April 2006, policeman Wang Dong and another officer from Liuting Police Station went to Ms. Liu's home and ordered her to sign a document. Ms. Liu refused and instead told them the truth about Falun Gong. When they tried to badger her family into signing the document, Ms. Liu blocked them out of her door. Ten days later, Wang Dong and three other policemen secretly opened Ms. Liu's house door to spy on her.

On May 12, 2006, policemen from Liuting Frontier Police Station illegally arrested Ms. Liu Xiuzhen, her son Mr. Yang Naijian, and practitioner Yang Youfen. They beat Yang Naijian in public. Police officer Bai kneeled very hard on Mr. Yang's stomach. Then the police ransacked their homes.

At about 4:00 p.m. on May 15, police head Lu Weizhong along with six policemen went to Ms. Liu's home and ransacked it. They didn't find what they were looking for. On their way out, they saw a motorcycle in her yard and confiscated it.

On June 13, Lu Zhongwei along with officials of the 610 Office went to the Sea Science and Technology Museum where Ms. Liu Xiufang's son worked. They threatened the officials of the museum, saying, "His parents are Falun Gong practitioners. So is he. How could you hire such a person?" That afternoon, Ms. Liu's son was fired. Hua Chang, the political instructor at Liuting Frontier Police Station, had previously asked about where Ms. Liu's son worked and lived. Ms. Liu Xiufang has been forced to leave home again for the second time.

Mr. Song Baogang Arrested in Shandong Province - His Father Dies of Grief

Mr. Song Baogang, 38, is a resident of Wenhua Road in the central area of Zaozhuang City. Because he firmly practices in Falun Gong, the authorities ransacked his home on numerous occasions and sentenced him to two years of forced labor. They even held him for more than two years after he had completed his sentence at the Wangcun Labor Camp. In August 2005, several uniformed and plainclothes officers went to his home to arrest him once again. A neighbor challenged the plainclothes officer, as he was forcing his way into Mr. Song's home through a balcony window. Surprisingly, the officer identified himself and said he was on "official business." The actions of the police forced Mr. Song into destitution and homelessness. On September 7, 2006, more than ten individuals arrested Mr. Song, including officer Di Hao of the Central 610 Office of Zaozhuang and deputy chief Yang Meng of  Guangming Street Police Station. They also arrested practitioner Gao Jiyu and ransacked his home.

Mr. Song's father suffered tremendously, both physically and emotionally, as a result of the long-term harassment, threats, and persecution that the CCP inflicted on his son during these years. In late August 2006, doctors admitted Mr. Song's father to the Zaozhuang Mining Bureau Hospital, although they were unable to diagnose any specific illness after a battery of tests. He died on September 17 after hearing that his son had been arrested once again.

Two Practitioners from Hebei Province Arrested and Tortured for Delivering the Nine Commentaries

Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Li Gang and Mr. Li He were illegally arrested by traffic police in Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province when delivering the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. They are detained at Zhuozhou Detention Center and are reportedly being tortured and persecuted. The police beat them and then scattered salt on their wounds. The cries of pain could be heard from the torture room.

At around 9:00 p.m. on September 11, 2006, Mr. Li Gang and Mr. Li He were driving between Hancunhe District and Dongxianpo District in Zhuozhou City. The police arrested them, and illegally seized their car, 1334 copies of the Nine Commentaries and 450 copies of Hong Yin, a book of poems written by Master Li. Mr. Li Gang and Mr. Li He were later sent to the National Security Group in Zhuozhou City. Mr. Li He was reportedly beaten and couldn't get up.

On the afternoon of September 30, 2006, four Falun Gong practitioners, including a young and energetic peasant, a female peasant and a man in his seventies, went to clarify the truth to the National Security Group of the police department. They hoped that the officials, who persecute Falun Gong practitioners out of ignorance, would come to understand the truth. They risked being persecuted and threatened with force. They requested that the police release the detained practitioners unconditionally and return the seized books and car. However, these practitioners were also imprisoned.

Ms Li Guiqin Tortured in Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province

[Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the Minghui.org website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net)]

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Guiqin, a resident of Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested when she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on November 17, 2000. She was taken back to Jiamusi City Detention Center and detained for fifteen days. It cost her family members over 5,000 yuan to get Ms. Li released. Her salary was also withheld by her employer. The mistreatment led to a financial loss to Ms. Li of over 10,000 yuan.

In late February 2002, policeman Liu Dehui, from the local station, frequently went to Ms. Li's house to harass her. On April 10, 2002, the police arrested Ms. Li and searched her house. She was taken to the police station and was not released until 9:00 p.m.. Later, the police again wanted to detain her, so Ms. Li had to leave home to avoid being arrested.

On the night of September 26, 2002, the police again went to Ms. Li's house. They broke into and searched her house, and then forced her into a police vehicle. When she was in the police station, Ms. Li Guiqin was locked to a chair with handcuffs and was not allowed to use the restroom. Ms. Li was then cuffed and taken to Jiamusi City Detention Center. To protest being mistreated, Ms. Li went on a hunger strike for ten days. She had symptoms of heart disease, but she was still not released. On October 30, 2002, Ms. Li was sentenced to three years of forced labor and was taken to Jiamusi City Labor Camp.

On March 27, 2003, the authorities tortured her again in an attempt to force Ms. Li to write the "five statements." On February 17, 2004, Ms. Li was locked with cuffs for four days and three nights. At about 1:00 p.m. on February 20, 2003, guards Mu Zhenjuan (female) and Wang Tiejun (male), kicked Ms. Li's face with their heavy leather boots. Two of Ms. Li's incisors were knocked out at that time and three teeth became loose from the kicks. There was blood everywhere on the ground and on her body. Her term was extended without any reason. For six months, her family members could not visit her.
