Ms. Gu Yeming, a practitioner from the Chaoyang District of Beijing suffered brutal persecution during her detention in a forced labor camp. She showed the symptoms of encephalitis when she was released. She was not able to walk well or speak clearly. She passed away on August 6, 2006, at the age of 69.
In 1993, Ms. Gu Yeming went through a series of chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. Later, she learned about Falun Gong through her friends and had an opportunity to attend Maste Li's lectures. She regained her health shortly afterwards. She felt very fortunate to be able to practice Falun Gong and regain her healthy body even though all of her fellow patients from the hospital passed away. Meanwhile, she conducted herself according to the standard of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance"and elevated her mind. In her workplace and neighborhood, she treated people with kindness and was willing to help others. She was recognized as a really nice person.
After the Jiang regime and the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Ms. Gu went to appeal several times for Falun Gong with her personal experience. Even in that extremely difficult environment, not only did she persist in her practice, but she also helped other practitioners. In August 2001, since she refused to give up her belief and kept doing truth clarification work, her home was searched and she was arrested. She was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor and was sent to labor camp.
Ms. Gu, already over 60 years old at the time, was deprived of sleep and forced to do hard labor. At the same time, she was forced to attend brainwashing sessions and suffered from mental torture. She was sent to a hospital when she showed the symptoms of encephalitis.
When Ms. Gu was sent home, she could not walk steadily or speak
clearly, and
she responded to things slowly. But she continued to practice and kept
reading Falun Gong books and
doing the exercises. Her health improved, but she was
still not able to recover and continued to suffer from mental torments
from the
torture in the labor camp. Ms. Gu died on August 6, 2006.

Ms. Wu Yunrui, born in 1956, assumed the position of deputy mayor of Bozhou City, Anhui Province in 1990. She was highly respected for her conscientious work and her incorruptibility.
In 1995, she was appointed the deputy director of Anhui Provincial Tourist Bureau based on her outstanding achievements. She has kept herself upright, especially after 1996 when she began to practice Falun Gong. She behaved according to the standard of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." A food company manager once commended her, saying "She brings a positive attitude in our city." Afterwards, when the police searched her home, only 7,000 yuan ($875) was found. One policeman said, "We searched the home of an honest and upright official!"
Sentenced to four years imprisonment for appealing for Falun Gong
In December 1999, Ms. Wu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and was arrested on December 26 in Tiananmen Square. The next day, the Anhui Provincial Tourist Bureau withdrew all of her administrative duties without conducting any investigation or giving any chance for her to appeal or file a complaint. An article criticizing her appeared in the headlines of Anhui Daily on December 28, 1999, which also referred to the massive persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Anhui Province. It is said that Gao Weiqing, the then-director of Anhui Provincial Tourist Bureau, was liable for the persecution of Ms. Wu Yunrui.
Ms. Wu Yunrui was sentenced to four years imprisonment thereafter, and detained in Anhui Provincial Woman's Prison in Su County, where she was deprived the right to see her mother and other family members. Only her sister and son were allowed to see her. Ten inmates were designated to monitor her 24 hours a day, and she was forbidden to talk to others. Otherwise, the person whom she talked to would be punished by the police. Even the policemen themselves were not allowed to freely talk to her.
During her jail sentence, she wrote a letter to Wang Taihua, the Secretary of Anhui Provincial CCP Committee, to disclose the illegal and unfair treatments she experienced, but she never got a response. Her family hired an attorney for her, but the prison rejected the request from the attorney to contact her.
Persecuted to mental disorder
In September 2003, the jail authorities launched a campaign to forcibly "transform" Falun Gong practitioners, which was led by Kong, a section chief of Anhui Provincial Forced Labor Bureau, Gong , the deputy director of the jail, and Ma, the CCP secretary of the prison. They threatened that the Falun Gong practitioners who refused the "transformation" would be pressed to commit suicide, and then the blame would be shifted to Falun Gong. They said beating to death would also count. It is said that Ms. Wu Yunrui experienced beating for two days in that campaign. In the afternoon of the second day, she was beaten into a coma, and when she regained consciousness she suffered from a mental disorder for three months. In the winter, other detainees wore thick clothes, while she still put on a T-shirt, since she lost the ability to feel the cold. Her parents-in-law visited her after the beating. They said that Ms. Wu showed visible bodily deformation, blue discharge ran from her eyes and she had no eye response. After her release she recovered a little bit, but still suffered a relapse occasionally. She only improved after several months' care by her family.
Sentenced to four years in prison again
At about 10:00 p.m. on October 10, 2004, when Ms. Wu was eating in a restaurant in Bozhou City with Falun Gong practitioners Zhang Junru, Xu Cuihua, Dong Hong, etc, they were approached by the police and arrested.
She was sentenced to four years in prison again, and has served the term in Bo County Woman's Jail (also called Bozhou City's Woman Jail) for two years. An insider says that she is in poor health. The details of the persecution have yet to be investigated.
Presently, Ms. Wu Yunrui's home is under strict surveillance, and the telephone is also tapped. Xia Xiurong and his wife, Falun Gong practitioners in Bozhou City, were arrested and are still detained just because they helped Ms. Wu's mother to buy some food.

The vicious guards at the Hohhot Women's Forced Labor Camp in Inner Mongolia brutally torture and abuse Falun Gong practitioners. They force them to do intensive labor for extended periods of time each day, deprive them of sleep and verbally abuse them to force them to give up their practice of "Truthfulness, Benevolence, Forbearance."
On one occasion, practitioners in this forced labor camp were deprived of sleep and were subjected to severe corporal punishments for long hours by the guards. They were under close surveillance by the other inmates, many of whom were convicted drug dealers. All these efforts were designed to force the practitioners to write statements declaring that they would no longer practice Falun Gong. If practitioners refused to write the statements, they would be handcuffed and hung up from the hot-water pipes or window frames and brutally beaten.
Many practitioners were tortured to the extent that they became very sick. Some even developed blood pressures as high as 220 to 225 systolic (normal is below 120 systolic) or had increased heart rates. The guards did not allow those sick practitioners to get medical attention or have proper rest. Instead, they berated the practitioners, claiming that the practitioners were pretending to be sick. The guards even threatened that they would torture practitioners more if they still refused to be "transformed."
The guards took the most steadfast practitioners behind closed doors to torture them with more brutal means. They stuffed filthy socks into the mouths of practitioners to stop them from crying out or groaning, then they handcuffed and shackled practitioners with very heavy fetters. They shocked practitioners with electric batons after pouring water on the floor so as to induce more severe shocks, and they imprisoned practitioners in tiny cells which were less than one foot tall and totally dark.
In order to make more profit, the captain of the forced labor camp made practitioners labor for fifteen hours continuously without breaks for meals. The guards did not allow practitioners to eat much or sleep much at night. They did not treat practitioners as human beings at all. If practitioners could not accomplish their assigned work they were even forced to keep working in the hallway after they returned back to their wards, sometimes until one or two o'clock in the morning.
This forced labor camp has three Groups, each of which has a garage where practitioners are taken for the most violent tortures. The steel doors with their "Garage" signs disguised the horrible things happening within. Most people would never suspect that these buildings were not actually garages, but instead were the most inhuman sorts of torture chambers.
The labor camps guards claimed that if practitioners refused to be "transformed" they would not be allowed to write to their families or be visited by their families.
When Falun Gong practitioner Li Ronglan refused to be "transformed"
she
was tortured in the "garage" for more than one month. When she was
finally released, she looked like a skeleton. Ms. Li was then
transferred to
another forced labor camp for more persecution.

During mid-May of 2006 Huang Weitang repeatedly led a group of police officers from Rizhuang Town to Falun Gong practitioner Wang Shan's home in Yuanli Village, Rizhuang Town to harass him. One morning, at around 11 o'clock, just as Wang Shan was leaving the house to pick up his granddaughter from kindergarten, Huang Weitang and four other people suddenly rushed into his home without a warrant. Without showing the required documents, they illegally ransacked his home and took away Falun Gong books. Even the granddaughter who is not even six years old could not help but shout indignantly at them: "You get out of here!"
On May 15, 2006, at about 8:00 p.m., a group of local policemen, including Li Shihua, from Rizhuang town, went to Falun Gong practitioner Li Dewei's home in Dishang Village, Rizhuang Town. Because Li Dewei did not open the gate, they pounded on the gate, broke it, and illegally entered the room to confiscate Li Dewei's property. They took away Falun Gong exercise music tapes, and then tried to take Li Dewei to the local police station. However, Li Dewei questioned them and said, "I have never done anything illegal, either in the village or in society in general. The police are not taking care of our chaotic public security conditions in Rizhuang area, but you are instead wasting your time harassing and persecuting good people. My neighbor and I have just been robbed and are concerned that we can't seem to find anyone who is in charge. Now that you have come here, you should investigate this charge." One of the policemen asked if he was planning to make a report at the local police station and Li Dewei said, "You can count on it!"
Nevertheless, the police attempted to take Li Dewei away by force and Li had to seize the first opportunity to flee. The police officers tightly pursued him and shouted: "Stop, or we will fire!" Soon, the officers indeed opened fire at a kind person who practices Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. Li Dewei escaped death by a hair's breadth.
The villagers who witnessed these events unfolding in the middle of the night heard the gunshots and the outrageous behavior of the police. They sighed and said, "What is the world coming to? Now, it is difficult to be a good person. We all should worry about this society in which nobody cares when a family is robbed but embezzlement and corruption are booming, local ruffians are domineering and tyrannical, and nobody dares to speak the truth. How can common people enjoy life? The police and bandits have ganged up together and we can only hope for the day when heaven finally eliminates them."
