  • Mr. Chen Guanghui, Died after Being Comatose for Over Two Years Due to Persecution in Jail

In front of the 100th Hospital of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province people often saw a skinny and gray-haired older lady lamenting that her son Mr. Chen Guanghui was tortured to death. At the time, her son was dying in the Hospital. His body was swollen beyond recognition due to edema. The hospital diagnosed him as terminally ill and informed the prison authorities. The prison ordered the hospital to keep this information secret from the family. Mr. Chen's family asked that he be transferred to another hospital or released so they could bring him home. Prison authorities said, "He can only die in prison."

Forty year-old Nanjing University Graduate, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Guanghui died on December 12, 2006. The details of his death are not known. Most likely, his mother is under house arrest and monitored by the CCP police. Mr. Chen's vegetative condition was due to the torture he suffered at Suzhou Prison in July, 2004. During the last two years of his life he depended on life-support equipment.

Mr. Chen Guanghui was formerly a division manager and the deputy head of the Computer Section of Lianyungang Branch of the People's Construction Bank of China. After he learned Falun Gong in 1995, he worked even more diligently and always helped others. Therefore, he was in very good repute among his colleagues. After the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, Mr. Chen Huiguang was persecuted continuously, simply because he refused to renounce Falun Gong.

After July 20, 1999, Mr. Chen Guanghui went to the Jiangsu Provincial government in Nanjing to appeal. He hoped to keep peoples' minds from being poisoned. After he returned to Lianyungang City, he was suspended from his duties and detained in a room at his workplace. He was under constant surveillance. The management at his workplace demanded that he announce on television that he renounced Falun Gong. He refused. In December the same year, the police from Lianyungang City Police Department illegally arrested Mr. Chen and sentenced him to one and a half years of forced labor.

After Mr. Chen was released from the forced labor camp he found employment at a joint venture computer company. He received a very high salary. He used his entire annual income to promote the Fa and clarify the truth. In June, 2001 he was arrested after the Falun Gong material processing center in Beijing had been reported and raided. Mr. Chen was detained at Lianyungang City Police Department. On June 21, 2001 Mr. Che escaped while being moved to Nanxiaoqu Police Station in Xinpu District, Lianyungang City, for questioning. He was on the wanted list that was posted throughout the country by CCP Public Security Ministry.

According to a notification written by his former workplace, which we obtained after it had passed through many hands, Mr. Chen Guanghui was detained again on September 10, 2001. One year later, on September 12, 2001, Mr. Chen was sentenced to an eight-year prison term by the Baixia District Court in Nanjing City, and was imprisoned at Suzhou Prison for further persecution.

Mr. Chen suffered a head injury on July 29, 2004 and was taken to the Neurosurgery Department of the 1st Hospital affilated to Suzhou University. He was in a coma and in critical condition. The police did not notify his family until August 4, 2004. When Mr. Chen's family visited him, he was still under Suzhou Prison guard surveillance. Mr. Chen's family wanted him released for treatment but staff from Suzhou Prison and the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Reforming through Labor turned down the request.

Mr. Chen Guanghui had been in a coma for more than two years until his death on December 12, 2006.

Ms. Tong Chunshi Died Following Torture at Longshan Forced Labor Camp

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Tong Chunshi from the Tiexi District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was illegally arrested in 2001 by officers from Baiqing Police Station in Sujiatun. She was sentenced to three years of forced labor and held at Longshan Forced Labor Camp. Her abusers held her in a "chill room," shocked her with electric batons, hung her by her handcuffs, deprived her of sleep, and forced her to squat for forty days. The guards also beat and kicked her and made her do slave labor. She suffered a relapse of esophageal cancer in 2004 and could not eat. She went home extremely weak and died on September 5, 2006, at the age of 57.

Tong Chunshi had gone to Beijing to appeal on October 18, 1999. Liaoning police agents arrested and sent her to a custody center. She was later transferred to Longshan Forced Labor Camp. She did the Falun Gong exercises on the evening of November 15, 1999. The guards hit her, shocked her with electric batons and kicked her chin. One of the female guards sat on a bed and asked, "Will you still practice?" "Yes!" The guard opened the door and made Ms. Tong, clad only in her underwear, stand in the freezing wind for two hours and then squat in the hallway until past midnight. Ms. Tong did the Falun Gong exercises on November 21, 1999. Political head Wang, who was in charge of persecuting Falun Gong, along with another guard, shocked her with two high-voltage electric batons until her face and mouth became swollen, and large blisters appeared on her hands. Two guards continued to shock her face and body with two electric batons the next day, until her face became deformed.

Tong Chunshi was extremely weak after five months of abuse. Authorities from Longshan Forced Labor Camp feared being responsible for her possible death and released her. She could not eat or drink and she was bedridden. Her family took her to a hospital where she was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. However, she recovered miraculously within a short time through practicing Falun Gong.

She was arrested again on September 17, 2001, by officers from Baiwa Police Station in the Sujiatun District, Shenyang City. She was sentenced to three years of forced labor and again sent to Longshan Forced Labor Camp. She suffered a relapse of esophageal cancer and was released on medical parole. Because she refused to comply with any of the labor camp authorities' conditions when they granted medical parole, Administration Section Head Jiang Yubo at Longshan, Deputy Head Yang Min of Group 1, and other officials took her back to Longshan on November 6, 2002.

The officials verbally abused her at first. They yanked her hair and slapped her face. They forced her to squat on a piece of tile about 1.1 sq ft and refused to let her sleep for more than 20 days. She was locked in a storage room for two months. Her feet swelled. She could not eat, and she vomited whatever she put in her mouth. After four days without food, "collaborator" Li Zhe followed the guards' orders and tried to force her to write a statement saying that she would be solely responsible for any consequences that arose from her inability to eat. Ms. Tong refused to write it. Someone took her to the office where the guards removed her clothes, threw her on the floor, and beat and kicked her. They grabbed her hand and forced her to submit her fingerprints on a pre-written statement.

After four months of nonstop abuse the guards saw that they could not "reform" her. They gave up and forced her to work upstairs [in isolation] so she could not talk or have contact with anyone else. Two inmates were assigned to monitor her around the clock. Eventually Tong Chunshi could not eat and suffered from constant chest pain. The pain became so severe that she could not sleep for several nights. She suffered from dizziness and shortness of breath, and was skin and bones.

Longshan Forced Labor Camp head Li Fengshi and Administration Section heads Li Shengyuan and Wang Xuetao shocked Falun Gong practitioner Wu Naiying on May 6, 2004. The camp officials took the Falun Gong practitioners to the third floor on May 7. They called Tong Chunshi out, made her stand in the hallway, and handcuffed her to an upper bunk of a double bed in the afternoon. Practitioners Lu Changjing, Fu Yanling, Wang Huan, Fan Hua, and Yang Chunhua were handcuffed to an upper bunk on the east side of the room. The practitioners were hung by their handcuffs at 7:00 a.m. each day when the detainees went to work. They were put down at noon and hung back up in the afternoon when work resumed. They were made to work in the cell at night and stand in the hallway afterwards until late at night when everyone finished work. They were hung up like this until May 16, 2004.

Ms. Tong Chunshi was physically and mentally abused for more than two years. She was extremely thin when she went home from the labor camp. She passed away on September 5, 2006.

Hong Kong Resident Ms. Zeng Aihua's Family Deceived by Shanghai City 610 Office

On December 8, 2006, after inquiring through many departments about Hong Kong Falun Gong practitioner Zeng Aihua's situation and whereabouts, and after being misled for over a month, her family was shocked to finally learn that her case had already been brought to public prosecution on November 1, 2006. The police department, as well as the Procuratorate, deceived the family and the lawyer of Zeng Aihua, as they kept telling the family and lawyer that the case was still in its investigation period, and no further decision had been made. They obstructed the efforts of the lawyer who lost precious time in making a thorough investigation and preparations for the case. The Shanghai 610 Office is attempting to bring Zeng Aihua to a trial in the near future.

Ms. Zeng Aihua (right) and her daughter

The Shanghai 610 Office has not stopped it's deceptive practices since May of this year when Zeng Aihua was illegally arrested. It has repeatedly threatened her family and their lawyer, and sought to avoid responsibility in its efforts to cover up its illegal actions.

In May, the police from Pudong District Police Department and Puxing Road Police Station broke into Zeng Aihua's house in Shanghai at midnight. They raided her house and confiscated her property without any notification to her family and without any witnesses. After several days, when her family noticed that Zeng Aihua was missing, they reported this to the police station and only then were they notified that Zeng Aihua had been arrested.

In June, when her family members received the arrest and detention warrant, there was no name or signature. When officials came to talk to the family they never revealed their names, department or phone numbers, and only claimed that his was Policeman Zhu, Policeman Zhang and Policeman Wang from Shanghai City Police Department.

When her family members called Pudong District Police Department, they claimed that there were no such policemen surnamed Zhu or Zhang. When her family called and asked to talk to the police chief, the operator always connected them to an extension that was never answered. Shanghai City Police Department also claimed that there was no Policeman Wang who worked there.

In July, a Policeman Wang claimed he was from Shanghai City Police Department and openly threatened Zeng Aihua's husband, saying, "Your daughter Chen Muhan had appealed from abroad to rescue your wife. Her actions will do no good. Your daughter is still a Chinese citizen. She should know better the consequences of protesting."

In August, Zeng Aihua's husband applied twice to Pudong District Police Department for bail without any reply. He went there in person with his disabled leg and requested to see the official in charge of the case. His request was refused verbally over the phone and he was told there would be no written reply.

In September, the Judicial Offices in Shanghai and Beijing joined together and exerted tremendous pressure on her lawyer, attempting to make him give up his case against them.

In October, when her lawyer requested bail for her from Procurator Li Jianjun in Pudongxiqu Procuratorate, Li claimed the case had been returned due to "insufficient evidence," and the police would do additional investigation, within a time limit of two months. Policemen Zhu and Zhang also verified this statement. In actuality, Li Jianjun secretly sent the case to the court for public prosecution in November 1.

In November, her lawyer still thought that the case was in its investigation period. He went to Pudongxiqu District Police Department many times, but was stopped at the gate and told that there were no such people in the bureau. His phone calls were always connected to an extension where no one answers the phone.

After the case had been sent to the court, the Procurator still deceived the lawyer whenever he inquired about the case, saying that it was still in its investigation stage. During the thirty-eight days while the case was in court, Zeng Aihua was not notified, nor was her family or her lawyer, of the proceedings which made the lawyer lose precious time in preparations for refuting or ensuring a thorough investigation.

Her family members went to the police department Appeals Office reporting the situation but they received no reply. When the family members called the detention center and inquired about Zeng Aihua, they claimed that they only detain people and do not answer any questions. Zeng Aihua's family had not seen Zeng or received her phone calls or letters for over six months, and her whereabouts were unknown.

In December, before Zeng Aihua's trial, the appeal office of the police department suddenly changed its attitude, and allowed the family members to inquire at its department. They claimed that they already recorded the conversation and would contact them later. When family inquired about the case, they replied that it had been sent to the court and that the official involved is Policeman Xi Weizhong. The procuratorate also changed its words stating that the case had been sent to the court a long time ago. The court also admitted that it had accepted the case. The sudden blow made Zeng Aihua's husband almost collapse. He is seventy years old with hypertension and diabetes, and his health condition quickly deteriorated.

The family was unable to find Xi Weizhong, or Policeman Zhu or Zhang from the police department, Li Jianjun from the Procuratorate or Shi Yaohui from the Court. Using the same phone number, someone else was able to get through one minute but the phone call from Zeng's family would never go through.

Judge Shi Yaohui, one of the two judicial officers, along with Chief Judge Cao Gangyi, sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Pan Jijun to seven years in March 2006. The other judicial officer was Wang Meilin, the secretary was Xu Yi.

The Shanghai 610 Office has illegally persecuted Zeng Aihua and deprived Zeng Aihua of her rights, but also fearfully covered up its actions. Zeng Aihua's family put forward a solemn and just protest, and they will try their best to expose the Shanghai 610 Office's ugly acts and rescue Zeng Aihua.

After Losing 3 Members, Mr. Wang Xiaofeng's Family Continues to Be Harassed by Shijiang City Police

Shijiazhuang City resident Mr. Wang Xiaofeng and his family all practice Falun Gong. They have been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for their belief in Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance. In less than an 18 month period, Mr. Wang lost three family members. His 34-year-old wife, his brother-in-law and his father-in-law were all tortured to death. At the time of his wife's death, his son, Tianxing, was just over one year old.

Mr. Wang was forced to leave home and wander about because the police from the 610 Office in the Shijazhuang City Police Bureau were illegally monitoring him and constantly harassing his parents, brother, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Beginning in 2003, the police had been harassing his sister-in-law nonstop because she adopted Mr. Wang's son.

Wang Xiaofeng's Three-Year-Old Son Wang Tianxing

Wang Xiaofeng's Wife Feng Xiaomin (Persecuted to Death)

In 2001, Mr. Wang Xiaofeng, his wife Feng Xiaomin and their infant son were forced to leave home and wander about in order to avoid further persecution by the 610 Office agents from the Shijiazhuang City Police Bureau, who put their names on a blacklist. Having to constantly move from place to place and under extreme stress, Mr. Wang had to tearfully separate from his wife and baby.

In early 2003, Li Jun from the Yuhua Police Sub-Bureau, and police officers from the police station made many harassing phone calls to Mr. Wang's sister-in-law Feng Xiaomei. They forced her to cooperate with them to look for Mr. Wang and his wife. They tricked her by saying that the couple was blacklisted by the Shijiazhuang City Police Bureau and they needed to find out their whereabouts in order to take them off the list.

In late May 2004, a kind-hearted person took Ms. Feng Xiaomin to her sister Feng Xiaomei's home. However, Ms. Feng Xiaomin had lost her memory and could not recognize anyone. She also took every person as a police officer and shouted out, "Police officers, don't come close to me or persecute me." When her family sent her to the hospital for emergency treatment, she was diagnosed with festering brain fluid retention, which had to be extracted. The doctor suspected that her brain was injured. Her family also suspected that the police must have beaten her. Five days after she was underwent emergency treatment, on June 1, 2004, Ms. Feng Xiaomin passed away at the age of 34 years old.

Mr. Wang Xiaofeng's sister-in-law, Ms. Feng Xiaomei, and her husband Wang Hongbin have also suffered in the persecution of Falun Gong. In 2003, Mr. Wang Hongbin was tortured to death while detained at a forced labor camp. Ms. Feng Xiaomei has to support their high school son Wang Boru by herself. With the sudden death of her sister and the adoption of little Tianxing, she leads an even more difficult life. Feng Xiaomei's parents came from their hometown in Northeast China to help look after the two children. Ms. Feng Xiaomei worked to support her family. Ms. Feng's father soon passed away after he arrived at her home because he couldn't take the constant harassment from the police and the pain of losing a daughter. Feng Xiaomei now often goes out of town for work while her mother is at home taking care of the two kids.

Wang Xiaofeng couldn't go back to his hometown Lingshou to see his parents, who missed him very much and were in poor health. Even so, the police from the Shijiazhuang City Police Bureau, the Yuhua Sub-Bureau and the Yuqiang Police Station often went to his home to harass and threaten his family, and tried to lure them to "look for" Wang Xiaofeng.

In early June 2004, when Feng Xiaomin had just passed away, Li Xingshan from the National Security Team of the Shijiazhuang Police Bureau, along with Li Jun from the Yuhua Sub-Bureau, called Ms. Feng to the police station and threatened her to find Wang Xiaofeng. Feng Xiaomei seriously admonished them. She told them that if they sincerely promised not to arrest any of the practitioners who are forced to wander about, then those practitioners would have come back over time. She said that every person would like to come home. But the harder they search for them, the less they dared to return home. After hearing this, the police officers became speechless, and they had to release Ms. Feng.

One evening in the winter of 2004, when Feng Xiaomei's father was in a critical situation, the deputy head from the Yuhua Police Sub-Bureau, Li Jun, called and insisted on going to her home to see her. No matter how hard Ms. Feng tried to explain that she had an ill patient at home, the police officers from the police station said that their deputy head was under extreme pressure and he had to see her tonight. Ms. Feng was afraid that her father would get upset and become terrified again, so she had no other choice but to go to the police station. Li Jun led a bunch of Yuhua Sub-Bureau police officers in several police vehicles as though they were dealing with a fierce enemy. They tried to first entice Ms. Feng, and when she didn't fall for their tactics, they switched to terrifying her. It was not until they used up all their tricks on Feng Xiaomei, did they release her to go home.

This winter, the police from Yuhua Branch and Yuqiang Local Station traveled over 35 miles to Lingshou. They went to Mr. Wang's home and threatened and tried to entice his ill parents. As a result, Mr. Wang's mother had a heart attack. She didn't fully recover until some time later. The elderly couple still do not know that their daughter-in-law Ms. Feng Xiaomin has passed away. Therefore, after the police went to their home, the elderly couple was afraid that they couldn't get in touch with their son, so they went to Ms. Feng's home to demand their grandson's whereabouts. This incident made Ms. Feng's mother very sad, and she misses her daughter.

A few days prior to October 1, 2006, Political Instructor Huang Jianji from Yuqiang Police Station began to call Feng Xiaomei again to ask for her cooperation to look for Mr. Wang. Ms. Feng asked, "My sister has already passed away, so why would I have anything to do with Wang Xiaofeng? How come you ask me for his whereabouts?" Huang Jijian said that it was because she adopted Mr. Wang's son.

Almost at the same time, a police officer with the surname Bao from the Yuhua Sub-Bureau went to Wang Xiaofeng's hometown again. He stole every telephone number from Mr. Wang's parents' home and from his brother and sister-in-law. They attempted to use the telephone to monitor their conversations, so as to locate Wang Xiaofeng. Once again, they have disturbed two families' lives and caused them long-term pain.

As soon as that incident was over, the Yuhua Sub-Bureau police began another round of harassment. They wanted to see Ms. Feng (who was out of town), harassed and frightened Mr. Wang's younger brother, who just recently graduated from the university, and went to Mr. Wang's hometown again.

    Background information:

Wang Xiaofeng, around 34 years old, is the husband of Feng Xiaomin and the father of Wang Tianxing. He previously worked at Hebei Province Shengxue Kanghua Medicine Production Limited. After he began practicing Falun Gong, he worked very diligently and because of this, the managers at the company thought highly of him. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, all Chinese citizens are pressured to participate in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. The police often made trouble for Mr. Wang's company. In order to relieve the pressure for his company, Wang Xiaofeng quit his job and found another. Out of appreciation for his contribution to the company, the company's upper management gave him a month's salary and wanted to support him financially so that he could set up his own company. Mr. Wang only thanked them for their thoughtfulness, but he turned them down and did not accept any of their offers.

Before Wang Xiaofeng started practicing Falun Gong, he was extremely hot-tempered, well-known for fighting with others, and always made fun of others at school. His family, classmates and friends tried to avoid him in the past. After he began practicing Falun Gong and incorporating Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance in his life, he studied harder, became more open-minded and kind, and worked more diligently. All of his co-workers thought highly of him.

After the persecution began, and to avoid further harassment and arrest, Mr. Wang and his family were forced to live a destitute life. Under the cruel persecution by the CCP and Jiang Zemin, it is very difficult for Falun Gong practitioners who are forced to leave home and wander about. The CCP has adopted such means as following, monitoring and threatening family members, and checking peoples' identities if they are from other provinces, because for many practitioners, they don't have any type of identity cards. Therefore, Mr. Wang was forced to keep moving and changing jobs. After he learned of his wife's critical situation, he rushed to the hospital to look after her. However, his wife had already lost her memory.

In 1996, Mr. Wang's wife Ms. Feng Xiaomin began to practice Falun Gong. She was hard-working and kind. In May 2001, she was arrested by the police officers from Shijiazhaung City Donghua Road Police Station because she had stickers that said "Falun Dafa is good." A political instructor by the surname of Shi and police officer Fang Zhiyong cruelly tortured her to try to force her to confess. As a result, Ms. Feng Xiaomin passed out a few times. Political Instructor Shi ignored the doctor's medical files about Ms. Feng's critical condition and sent her the 1st Detention Center of Shijiazhuang City. Ms. Feng went on a hunger strike where she refused to eat or drink for over twenty days. She became very weak and was at the brink of death. It was then that they finally released her. To avoid further persecution, Ms. Feng Xiaomin and her husband were again forced to wander about.

In late May 2004, with the help of a kindhearted person, Ms. Feng Xiaomin arrived at her sister's home. However, Ms. Feng had lost her memory. Five days after she was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment, she passed away, on June 1, 2004. She was diagnosed with festering cerebritis. Her doctor suspected that she was beaten about the head. Ms. Feng's family suspects that she was cruelly beaten by the police officers.

Wang Tianxing was born on July 31, 2002. Even before he was born, he was wandering about with his parents. At the tender age of 18 months, he lost his mother. Sometimes, little Tianxin would suddenly wake up from sleep and cry out for his mother and father. The police officers' constant harassment has injured little Tianxin deeply. As soon as he hears a fairly loud sound, especially the sound of knocking at the door, he instantly shouts, "I'm scared."

Due to the constant harassment from police officers and having lost his daughter, little Tianxin's grandfather passed away.

Forty one year-old Ms. Feng Xiaomei previously worked at the Hebei Province Telephone Equipment Factory. She is Mr. Wang Xiaofeng's sister-in-law. After July 20, 1999, Ms. Feng's home was ransacked five times, and both she and her husband have been illegally arrested six times. In the beginning, to avoid further persecution by the police, she had to separate from her husband. Later, they had to leave home and wander about. Because she adopted little Tianxing, the police have been harassing her and her family up to this day to try to force them to look for Mr. Wang Xiaofeng.

Wang Hongbin is Feng Xiaomei's husband. He was a former Hebei Province Telephone Equipment Factory engineer. He began practicing Falun Gong in 1994. In the early morning of July 20, 1999, Wang Hongbin and Feng Xiaomei were illegally arrested at home by the police officers from Shijianzhuang City, leaving their primary school-aged son at home alone. Mr. Wang was detained for three months and released in October 1999. In 2000, the company that Wang Hongbin and his wife worked at forced them to quit their jobs because of their beliefs. On December 5, 2000, the 610 Office in Shijiazhuang City and the police of Shijiazhuang City Police Bureau, Changan Branch ransacked Mr. Wang's home and arrested him. He was tortured, then he was illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor in Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp. There, he suffered extremely cruel tortures.

In November 2002, Wang Hongbin was released to go home. He had been tortured until he became very weak, kept sweating, coughed a lot, and couldn't sleep. His health deteriorated dramatically. On October 9, 2003, he passed away at the age of 39 years old.

Wang Boru is the son of Wang Hongbin and Feng Xiaomei. When he was 10 years old, both of his parents were arrested. Two years later, his father was sent to a forced labor camp, while his mother was forced to leave home and wander about, and no one knew of her whereabouts. More than a month later, his mother was at the brink of death, his father was tortured to death, and his aunt and grandfather passed away. Boru became very fearful and was easily awoken if he heard any noise. He was afraid that he wouldn't see his mother again and didn't dare to go back to sleep. He always held firmly onto his mother's arm before falling asleep. He also made up his mind that if the police arrested his mother again, he would go with them. Now as a teenager, Wang Boru has started to help look after little Tianxing.
