Ms. Du Juan was a medical doctor at the Shaping Oil Field Employee Hospital in Yubei District, Chongqing City. After four years and six months of torture suffered at the labor camp, her spleen, lungs and liver were all badly damaged. Du Juan died on April 14, 2006 at the age of 29.

In 2000, Ms. Du was illegally arrested and sent to a labor camp where she was detained for one-and-a-half years. The hospital party secretary Zhou and hospital director were responsible for her illegal arrest. On March 25, 2002, Du Juan was again arrested, this time by the Longxing Police. She was sent to Chongqing Women's Labor Camp, where she was persecuted for three years. In order to resist the persecution, Ms. Du called out Falun Gong truth-clarification messages, erased slandering words on the blackboard, and refused to wear the prison uniform. The police instructed criminals to stuff her mouth with dirty cloths and tape it, slap her face with the sole of shoes, strip off her civilian clothes and put a uniform on her. They also tied her up and exposed her to the scorching sun for hours.

In May 2002, in order to increase the so-called "transformation" rate, the labor camp specifically transferred several vicious male thugs from Xishanping Men's Labor Camp to persecute practitioners. Thug Li Bin slapped Du Juan's face dozen times. As a result, her face became swollen and deformed. Criminal inmates Ma Lan and Zheng Xiuqin once kicked Du Juan's abdomen, causing her unbearable pain. Then the police threw her into a confinement cell and ordered six criminals to watch her around the clock.

The confinement cell was filled with foul air. It was cold and damp in the winter and hot and humid in the summer. There was only a barrel for Du Juan to use as a toilet. Once the lid of the barrel was lifted, the whole room was filled with a stench beyond description. Anyone would have difficulty breathing after staying in that room for only a couple of minutes. Du Juan could not get to sleep due to the sharp pain in her abdomen. On June 12, 2002, her abdominal pain got worse and she could not even straighten her back. The police saw that she refused to answer roll call, so they continued to torture her. As a result, Du Juan lost consciousness. Only then did the police send her to the hospital. She was diagnosed with injury to her left kidney and spleen, as well as injury to her intestines. Afraid of taking responsibility should she die, the police released her that same night.

At that time, Du Juan was beyond recognition. Her face was swollen and her entire body was covered with bruises and wounds. She had to bend her back while taking very small steps. On June 15, 2002, in order to cover up their crimes, the police arrested her again and forcibly sent her to Heping Hospital for treatment. After one week, when Du Juan's condition got a bit better, the police threw her back into the labor camp.

Another method the police used to torture Du Juan was to prohibit her from bathing. In the hot summer, for two months, they did not allow her to shower even once. Every day she was given only a basin of water with which she rinsed her mouth, washed her face and body, as well as her clothes. Every day the amount of water given dwindled. Once a criminal monitoring her gave her a bit more water than usual and that person was scolded by the guards. Du Juan's bed sheet was soaked by her sweat, but she couldn't wash it. Her hair all stuck together but she couldn't shampoo it. Her whole body smelled badly.

Du Juan was also forced to stand or squat in fixed positions for up to 17 and 18 hours a day. As a result, her feet were swollen all year long. Later, her entire legs were swollen. She couldn't put her feet in her normal size shoes.

Since violence was not able to "transform" Du Juan, the police then resorted to hypocrisy and mental torture. They cut off all the communication practitioners had with the outside world. No family visits, no mail, and no phone conversations were allowed. There was a period of time when the police did not even allow Du Juan to talk to the person sharing the same room with her. On top of that, two groups of collaborators and some police officers bombarded her with abusive language. Du Juan once took a deviated path due to the pressure, but she quickly realized her mistake. After she resumed Falun Gong cultivation, the police engaged a so-called "entire isolation management," not allowing her to go downstairs for seven months. They even ordered a tuberculosis patient to monitor her. Soon Du Juan also contracted tuberculosis. She had a continuous fever and difficulty breathing. Her spleen, lungs and liver were all badly damaged. Only then did the police agree to release her. After Ms. Du returned home, the local police still frequently harassed and monitored her. She was forced to leave home. Du Juan passed away on April 14, 2006.

Since March 29, the 610 Office in Xinjiang has illegally arrested twenty Falun Gong practitioners and sent them to the "Transformation Base" in the Banfanggou Public Health Center in Urumqi County. It is said that the local officials hold different levels of meetings. At the meetings it has been emphasized that no one must ever let out this news. The Falun Gong practitioners have been on a hunger strike for twenty-six days. They are being injected with unknown drugs every day. More details follow:

The Party Committee of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region recently gave orders to the different levels of the 610 Offices to fortify the persecution. On March 29, 2006, sixteen Falun Gong practitioners were arrested around Xinjiang and were sent to the "Transformation Base" - the Banfanggou Public Health Center in Urumqi County in Xinjiang (opposite the Banfangguo County Court). The Health Center is also called the Law System Education Base in Urumqi. Falun Gong practitioners are persecuted there. Ten days later another four practitioners were arrested and sent to the brainwashing base.

According to reliable sources, these Falun Gong practitioners from Xinjiang are all very determined in cultivation. The 610 Office launched a new wave of persecution but they are afraid of being exposed. At the different levels of meetings they particularly emphasized that no one should reveal that they are holding "classes" to "transform" the Falun Gong practitioners, but instead they are required to tell outsiders that ordinary classes are being held. It is particularly stressed not let the family members of Falun Gong practitioners know that their loved ones are in the base and are being persecuted. Due to the recent exposure of the death camp brutally persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, the local Falun Gong students are very worried about the safety of those practitioners.

According to reliable sources, what is different from before is that the Falun Gong practitioners detained there are not allowed to come out at any time. Even meals are sent in by the staff in the brainwashing base. These practitioners are all very determined in cultivation. Up to the time of this article, they have been on a hunger strike for twenty-six days. The officials from the 610 Office are making doctors inject unknown drugs into the practitioners every day. The police from the 610 Office often brutally beat the very determined practitioners. The persecution is escalating. Practitioners are facing the risk of death at any time. Falun Gong practitioners in Xinjiang therefore urgently request that the Truth Investigation Committee of the United Nations immediately go to the Banfanggou Public Health Center in Urumqi County in Xinjiang to investigate the killing and persecution which is happening now.

1. [Hunan Province] Wuling Jail Tortures Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Zhang Peng

Hunan practitioner Mr. Zhang Peng was sentenced to an illegal 10-year term for clarifying the truth of Falun Gong. From 2002 to 2004, he was detained in Chishan Jail, Yuanjiang City, Hunan Province, and suffered various tortures. At the end of 2004, Hunan 610 Office police thought that Mr. Zhang had attempted to escape from the jail with another practitioner, Mr. Jia Zhefa. They transferred Mr. Zhang to the Yuanjiang Police Department Detention Center and classified him as a major case. They extorted a confession from him by torturing him for a long time.

In 2005, Mr. Zhang was transferred to Wuling Jail in Ward 5. He has to do forced labor for more than 10 hours each day. There is no holiday or no pay. Mr. Zhang, a professor in a university, became very weak after years of persecution. His insistence on practicing Falun Gong resulted in his getting beaten and monitored day and night. The police arranged for prisoners to monitor him at all times including when he went to the washroom and bathroom. The Wuling Jail Education Office also sent him to the "Strict Group" to torture him and tightly blocked the news.

On April 7, 2006, the police from the National Security Group in Yushu City broke into the Sanitation Office of Fuan Town, Yushu City. They illegally arrested a doctor, practitioner Mr. Wang Ruan. Then they went to search his home but did not find anything. Nevertheless, they still detained him. Now, he is detained in the Yushu Detention Center.

Mr. Zhao Yan, 28 years old, a graduate student of Harbin Industrial University, now lives in Ningbo City. For distributing the "Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party" in Ningbo the Ningbo Police Department arrested him at the end of 2005. He is being detained in the Ningbo Detention Center. The Ningbo Court is to try him in two to three weeks.

Ms. Zhang Shuling, over 40 years old, is a teacher at the Jiaying Farm School in Heilongjiang Province. She persisted in practicing Falun Gong and was persecuted by the authorities from the education system many times. She is detained in the Suihua Farm Detention Center. She went on a hunger strike for a long time to protest her "illegal detention." She was not sent to hospital until she became half paralyzed from being tortured. Her face is deformed.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Gao Hui is from the Kaifu Section of Changsha City. Ms. Gao was arrested by the police from the Kaifu Police Department and the Xinhe Police Station on December 20, 2005. She has been detained in the Changsha Detention Center for nearly four months. She is facing trial.

An elderly practitioner, Ms. Li Chenglan from Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, was arrested on February 17 for distributing truth clarification materials. She is currently being detained in the Guangdong Sanshui Forced Labor Camp.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ge Lijun from Pingfang Section, Harbin City, was arrested by the police from the Pingfang Police Department on April 5 when she was went out for groceries. She is being detained in the Pingfang Police Department.

Mr. Chen Xiangyang was arrested by the Qingshanhu Police Department. Mr. Chenwen and Ms. Zhang Shujun were arrested by the Qingyunpu Police Department. On April 5, 2006, from Xiangyang Town Ms. Zhao Shuxian, who clarified the truth, was arrested by the police. On March 21, 2006, several practitioners from the Qiezihe District of Qitaihe City were arrested. Elderly practitioners Ms. Ji and Xiao Wang were arrested by the Taoshan Police Department on the same day. Retired teacher Mr. Li and his wife from the Qiezihe Section were arrested. They have been released. A practitioner from Tieshan Town and a local practitioner, Ms. Han, were arrested.

There was news that Ms. Cai in Dongsheng Village was arrested. Her husband who does not practice Falun Gong was also taken away. All of the above practitioners' homes were searched.

On the morning of April 9, 2006, Mr. Wang Jiru, a Falun Gong practitioner from Tongbei Forestry Bureau of Bei'an City, Heilongjiang Province, distributed truth-clarifying materials on the bus to the mountain. Mr. Wang was arrested by a policeman named Duan Guisen. Mr. Wang is now being held in the Police Station Detention Center of Tongbei Forestry Bureau .

Recently, practitioners from Shanghai, Mr. Gao Hongdeng, Ms. Zhou Huilin, and Ms. Yu Peiying, were clarifying the truth in a taxi mini van and were reported by the taxi driver to the authorities.

Ms. Wang Yulan, over 50 years old, is from No. 6 Street, Langshan Township, Huailai County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. She was reported while distributing truth-clarifying materials. She was arrested and taken to the police station in Huailai County, but the detention center refused to accept her. She was kept instead in the police station in Langshan Township. The police said they would release her if her family gave them 8000-10000 yuan.

During the time that the two congressional conferences were being held, in Gucheng County, Hebei Province, 10 practitioners were arrested and detained. After the March 25 to 28 conference, practitioners Ms. Wang Chunlan, Ms. Mu Fanxi, and Ms. Sun Guilan were arrested and detained.

Around 9 p.m. on March 25, 2006, Gao Feng, Hou Hongqi and five policemen from the National Security Team, Shanan Branch, Zhoukou City, suddenly broke into practitioner Ms. Yi Wangban's home. They searched it and found two Falun Gong exercise tapes. They told Ms. Yi Wangban to speak and took her to the police station. Later on, she was detained at the Zhengwa Detention Center for further persecution.

Before the lunar calendar New Year, some people reported on Ms. Yi. She was taken to the Beixing Police Station. Li Yuzheng, a policeman from the National Security Team of Shabei Branch, threatened her family. He blackmailed them for over 2000 yuan and then forced them to write the so-called "Guarantee Letter" before he agreed to release Yi Wangban. After a few months, the police arrested her again.

Ms. Wang Yuqin, 58 years old, is a practitioner from the Twenty-Family Village of Taolaizhao Three-Family Township, Fuyu County, Jilin Province. At 5 a.m. on April 7, 2006, two policemen from the Taolaizhao Police Station, led by village leader Zhang Fengquan, broke into Ms. Wang's home and took her to the county detention center. They left a teenage grandson alone at home. The child was pressured and his schoolmates baited him. He was afraid of going to school and was forced to stay at home.

The Cai Pu couple are retirees from the Agriculture University in Zhuzhou Dongchengfang, Baoding City, Hebei Province. They were fined several times due to their practice of Falun Gong. The wife was sent to the forced labor camp three times. During that time, they were fined over 10,000 yuan. The wife is still in the forced labor camp after her third arrest.

According to a friend who works in the governmental office, at the beginning of April, new word-of-mouth orders from their superiors stated that in April and May there will be a new movement which requires each work unit to establish an office called "Strict Attack" that would investigate each and every Falun Gong practitioner in each work unit. They will arrest anyone distributing truth-clarifying materials. This movement also includes students and teachers in the schools. This is called the "Strict Attack."

Ms. Lin Yuling, a practitioner from the Tongzhou District, Beijing, was arrested and held for nearly two months. Her daughter Ms. Kong Xuesong was released. Both of them work for the Zhang Lixin Company.

Recently, practitioner Mr. Gao Liangui from the No. 1 Institute, Department of Astronautics, was arrested by the 610 Office and the Taoyuanli Street Committee. Mr. Gao is over 60 years old. After he was taken to the brainwashing center, he started a hunger strike to protest the persecution. His family's home was ransacked.

The Dongli Township Police Station in Qiyuan County, Shandong Province, ganged up with the Society Combination Office to attack Falun Gong. They produced some flyers that attacked and smeared Falun Gong and posted them everywhere. They used money to entice and motivate people to report and arrest practitioners.

On April 7, without any legal procedure, the police from Pingyuan Police Station sent Ms. Zhang Hongxiu to the No. 1 Women's Forced Labor Camp in Shandong Province for further persecution. After Ms. Zhang was arrested on March 25, she started a hunger strike to resist the persecution.

Ms. Zhang Yonghong and Ms. He Jingyan from Yichang City, Hubei Province, have been "illegally detained" in the Yichang City Detention Center since September 2005. It is now more than six months.

On March 30, 2006, at about 11 a.m., Zhang Guozheng and three other policemen from the Jian Village Police Station in Xiangfangshe arrested Mr. Hu Decong in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, when he came home from his office for lunch. The police searched his home. Then they sent him to the Jintangwang Detention Center.

On March 8, 2006, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zou Xifang from Sun Village, Changcheng Town, Zhucheng City, Shandong Province, was taken to the Zhucheng City Detention Center by the police from Zhucheng City. On April 3, 2006, she was sent to the Wangcun Women's Forced Labor Camp in Zibo City, Shandong Province.

Practitioners Ms. Wen Xiaochun and Ms. Liu Yulan from Huangjue Village, Suining City, Sichuan Province, were arresed on April 2, 2006 when they were clarifying the truth in Longhui Village.

On March 31, 2006, at about 11 a.m., the Huangpo City 610 Office in Wuhan City directed more than 40 police and members of the National Security Team in the district police department, police stations in Qianchuan, Lutai, Niukou, and the local communities to break into the homes of many practitioners, ransack the homes and arrest the practitioners.

Moreover, the Huangpo City 610 Office also printed large quantities of propaganda materials to slander Falun Gong. They held a compulsory group leader meeting with the Qianchuan Street residents on March 28 to disseminate those materials. Some community members also wrote the slanderous content on the community blackboard to widely spread terror and hatred, deceive the public, and contaminate the minds of the residents.

On April 5, practitioner Mr. Qiu Yabai from Qianfeng Town, Guang'an City, Sichuan Province, was reported to the authorities and was arrested when he sent out truth-clarifying materials in Guixing Town.

On April 6, the Nanyuan Residents Committee in Youyi Street, Dongguan, the Kuiwei District, Weifang City, exhibited a display board to slander Falun Gong and its founder.

Since September 2005, more than 10 practitioners from Yunfu have been persecuted. Ms. Ruan Guihuan and Ms. Ou Suhong were sentenced ti three years. Mr. Lai Jiawen and Ms. Li Shaozhen were sentenced to two years in the forced labor camp. Ms. Yang Hailian, Chen Shuishi, and Ms. Ou Zhini were detained at the detention center for more than one week. Another practitioner was also abducted to the detention center for a few days and was forced to write the Guarantee Statement for sending out truth-clarifying materials.

On March 30, 2006, Deng Jinrui, the Yunfu Department Manager of the Guangdong Mobile Communications Corporation, was taken to the Sanshui Brainwashing Center by the police department and the 610 Office. He was sentenced for one year in the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp in March 2000 for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Practitioner Ms. Yang Hailian was taken to Sanshui Brainwashing Center, also. She was detained in 2005 and was sentenced to two years in the Sanshui Women's Forced Labor Camp.

Ms. Lai Zhenxian from the Yunfu Agriculture Bureau was sentenced to three years in the forced labor camp. The sentence expired on February 27, 2006. She is still imprisoned in Sanshui Forced Labor Camp.

Practitioner Ms. Xie is over 60 years old and lives in Yuanling in the Luohu District, Shenzhen City. She has two daughters, Ms. Zhang Zhihong and Ms. Zhang Zhiying. They are all Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Zhang Zhihong was sentenced to seven years. She is imprisoned and suffers from the persecution.

Ms. Zhang Zhiying was abducted from her home by the police in February 2006. Her whereabouts is unknown. The police surrounded her home for more than 20 days and she was in a very difficult situation. The police have withdrawn although there are still plainclothes police who are monitoring her and waiting for a chance to persecute her.
