After the investigative report by Matas
and Kilgour
was released on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP's) live organ
harvesting,
Canadian Falun Gong practitioners started a cross-country SOS Car Tour
to help
more people see clearly the CCP's tyranny and evil nature and stop the
persecution. Reporter Ruth Saunders from Wetaskiwintimes covered the
practitioners' protest activities in Wetaskiwin on July 31st,
2006.
The article said that in a cross-country tour called the SOS Car Tour in Wake of Released Organ Harvest Report, Falun Gong practitioners staged a protest outside the Wetaskiwin city hall.
The area outside city hall was surrounded by posters of atrocities, and a live display showing doctors harvesting an organ and giving it to someone for cash.
A new report, released by international human rights lawyer David Matas and former member of parliament David Kilgour, found the atrocities suffered by Falun Gong practitioners in China was even worse than originally believed.
Their report found that 36 medical centers in China are harvesting organs from detained Falun Gong practitioners. Through interviews, the report even found some of the detainees were still alive at the time the organs had been harvested.
The report stated the increase in organ transplants in China parallels the increase in persecution of the Falun Gong. Approximately 41,500 transplants were performed between 2000 and 2005 without any identifiable source.
"The allegation of organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners provides an answer..." noted the report, concluding "...organ harvesting of unwilling donors where it is either systematic or widespread is a crime against humanity."
Falun Gong practitioner Doris Liu told the reporter, "We're asking the Canadian government to take immediate action and urge the Chinese Communist regime to stop killing people and harvesting their organs." "We also encourage the Canadian citizens not to have transplants from China and to also encourage the government to take a stand against these atrocities."
Liu, with other supporters visited Wetaskiwin, Camrose, Ponoka and Red Deer in one day to promote their cause. They plan to take their tour to 14 cities in Alberta and visit more than 20 members of parliament.
The article also introduced that Falun Gong is a peaceful practice, teaching truthfulness, compassion and tolerance. There are more than 70 million known practitioners of Falun Gong throughout the world and it is believed the real number is more like 100 million. Ms. Liu said, "Falun Gong teaches you to look inside one's self, to be a good person and maintain and increase your moral practices."
However, Falun Gong practitioners are not finding much peacefulness in China. Since 1999, if citizens are found practicing Falun Gong, they will be detained, sentenced to labor camps, beaten, abused and killed. As of today, thousands of practitioners have died as a result of the persecution. Practitioners are trying hard to raise awareness of the world's people on their fellow practitioners' suffering under the CCP's rule.
