An event called 'China Time' is scheduled to take place in Hamburg between September 13th and October 1st. A series of events has been planned to celebrate twenty years of friendship between the cities of Hamburg and Shanghai. Former head of state Jiang Zemin who, with Klaus von Dohnanyi, initiated the partnership between the two cities twenty years ago, started the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. His malicious nature became apparent even earlier because he was responsible for the crackdown on the student protests in 1989, which won him power and influence at the helm of the regime.

Due to this event, Falun Gong practitioners have redoubled their efforts to bring to light the persecution of Falun Gong by the Communist Party in China. They are organizing information activities to tell the citizens of Hamburg about the unscrupulous behavior of the CCP, to look behind the glittering facades in China and to expose the darker corners, like forced organ removal and torture.

On August 12th Falun Gong practitioners in Hamburg organized an information activity in Hamburg's inner city. Although the weather looked threatening, it never really started to rain more than a few drops, although in other parts of the city it was pouring. The downtown area was clogged with people doing their weekend shopping, as usual. When we arrived at our spot, a boy and a girl were still singing German folk songs nearby, which is a rare occurrence but they left with their belongings, as soon as we started to set up our stand. Everything became peaceful once again, except for the voices of the passing people and the usual sounds of traffic.

The topic of our activity was the organ removals. We had prepared petitions to be signed by the shoppers. Practitioners positioned themselves right in the middle of the busy, colorful throng of people and talked to everybody who was interested about the organ removals from living practitioners, the persecution of Falun Gong and the Communist Party of China. Numerous posters, billboards and fliers, as well as the stage props re-enacting organ removals attracted lots of attention. Passers-by were not able to block out the truth. One girl and her friend stopped at a distance from the banners reading "Stop the killings!" "Stop organ removals from living Falun Gong practitioners!" and from the memorial board listing the names of murdered Falun Gong practitioners. She stared at the picture of the murdered Falun Gong practitioners whose chest had been crudely opened and sutured shut again. His face was contorted with unbearable pain. When I asked the girl whether she had questions, she said: "No thank you! I already know about it. It is just that every time I see these pictures they are more terrible than before." Another couple passed our stand and took a flier. While they were passing us they asked: "Falun Gong, isn't this a cult. They had obviously been listening to the propaganda of the Communist Party. We cleared up the misunderstanding with a short explanation. In fact, they had mistakenly associated Falun Gong with the poison gas attacks in Japan. Later, they both smiled with embarrassment and left happily.

Many people were shaking their heads as they walked by, "Too bad that this terrible thing is happening in China." One gentleman came to our stand and had a short conversation with a practitioner. He and his wife had lived through World War II and were able to imagine the kind of suffering the practitioners in China have to endure, "It's terrible," and, "I think it is very good what you're doing", he said. At first, he had told us, "I don't think anything will come of it." After the practitioner had finished her conversation with the gentleman, he changed his mind. He asked where he could sign the petition and wished us success and good luck. A middle aged lady had heard of the persecution of Falun Gong on TV. She asked how it was possible that such a peaceful practice was being persecuted. She was not able to imagine any reasons. She immediately understood the background when we told her about the unscrupulous and malicious nature and the crimes of the Communist Party. The demonstrations of the harmonious Falun Gong exercises also helped to give everyone an impression about Falun Gong practice.

Explaining the facts about the organ removals

"What are they doing? Is it a real surgical operation?" a group of children were shocked by what they saw. Even though rain started to fall, they stood quietly and waited for a reply. They were puzzled by the scene on Marktplatz Basel, Switzerland, where a "surgeon" was "performing an operation" on a man lying on an "operation table" covered with a bloodstained blanket. Beside the operation table was a "Chinese policeman" waving a police baton in his hand.

The re-enactment of the organ stealing drew people to stop and watch

A Falun Gong practitioner explained to the children what they saw was a demonstration of what has been happening in China. Falun Gong practitioners, who believe in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance," have been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime for more than seven years. Some of the practitioners were victims of organ harvesting for profit. The bodies were subsequently cremated to destroy the evidence. The practitioner told them the purpose of performing the live simulation was to make more people pay attention to this issue and help to stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.

As the rain stopped, more people came to the Marktplatz. Some people waiting for the bus were drawn by the graceful exercise music. They stared at the information desk. A practitioner came toward them and gave them truth-clarifying material. Some passers-by walked toward the "operating table" from afar, trying to find out what was going on. Practitioners told them about the Chinese communist regime atrocity of organ harvesting and showed them related evidence collected from investigations. There were also people who appeared to be indifferent in the beginning, but became solemn after watching the demonstration, reading the information boards and listening to practitioners' explanations. Upon finding out that signatures were collected to support the petition for stopping the organ harvesting, a lot of people signed their names at the desk.

A young couple from Germany stood in front of the "operating table' for a long time. A practitioner explained to them the facts about the organ harvesting in China. Referring to the on-site demonstration of Falun Gong exercise, the practitioner told them anyone who practices this gentle, slow moving exercise in China may be arrested, cruelly tortured, and even expose himself to the danger of having their organs removed. Their facial expressions turned very serious. After signing their names, they asked for newspapers, which they would help to distribute so that more people could understand the persecution in China. A gentleman told the reporter, "I haven't heard of such things in the past. My girlfriend and I are so shocked that we can hardly speak." He added, "I think we should do something. The government also needs to apply heavier pressure on the Chinese communist regime. Economically, we cannot rely on China too much." The lady said, "China is still a communist country. The government doesn't care too much about its citizens. We will do our best to help you. We hope that everything will be fine for you." They also indicated the importance of making more people understand this information and their willingness to tell their friends in Germany about what they saw today.

A woman who came from Thailand told the reporter even though she lived in Asia, this was the first time she heard of Falun Gong and the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Her comments about the Chinese communist regime organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners were, "They should not have done so. This is not the conduct of humans. We ought to take actions and stop them".

"What I have seen and heard here today is extremely ruthless. I can never imagine such things should have occurred. It is horrible!" After understanding the facts of organ harvesting, a Serbian woman told the reporter that she had never heard of this before and the persecution was so cruel. Referring to the information day activity, she said, "The activity should be held everywhere. It is so sorrowful to know the Falun Gong practitioners' situation. It is very good to make people pay attention to this event." She also mentioned that there were a lot of Chinese in her homeland, but almost all of them did not know about this persecution. In the end, she left information about the places in Serbia where Chinese people congregate so that Falun Gong practitioners can clarify the truth to the Chinese people in Serbia.

Two young girls asked why the surgeons could be so shameless to perform those kinds of operations. Practitioners told them, according to an elderly military doctor, things like this were handled by the military in China, and a lot of organ harvesting operations were done by military surgeons, who were forced by the authorities. The girls said, "The torture in China is so bad and so relentless. It is an affront to mankind. It is so terrible. How can they carve up live people like that? This is completely unreasonable. We ought to make people know about it, and take actions to stop it".

Night gradually fell on the Marktplatz. The strong contrast between the graceful demonstration of Falun Gong exercises and the brutality of China's organ harvesting has brought a completely different weekend to the people who were at the square on August 26th, 2006.
