Between late February and early March 2008, the police arrested several Falun Gong practitioners from Yangquanzi Town, Panshan County, Liaoning Province.
Shortly after 6:00 a.m. on February 25, 2008, over 40 police officers broke into Mr. Wang Jianquan's home in Beijing Village, Yangquanzi Town, Panshan County. The police officers kicked down the door and broke the window. Several pushed Mr. Wang Jianquan to the ground and pulled his arms behind his back to handcuff him. One police officer pulled the hair of Mr. Wang Jianquan's wife, Ms. Wang Chunlin. A girl from the neighborhood saw what the officers were doing and shouted, "Be gentle! She is a woman!" Their son, Mr. Wang Biao, tried to prevent the police from taking his parents away, so the police arrested him as well. One police officer asked Ms. Pan Cong, Mr. Wang Jianquan's daughter-in-law, "Where is the money? Take out your bankbook." Ms. Pan was holding her infant while she was arguing with the police. She said, "I don't owe you any money. Why should I give you my money!" The police officer threatened, "You are lucky that your baby is little, otherwise, we would take you away, too."
Mr. Wang Jianqi's home was ransacked and he was arrested. When his wife, Ms. Liang Yufeng, came home from visiting other practitioners, she saw that her home was surrounded by police and escaped on her bike.
While on his way to work in the morning, practitioner Mr. Ma Fuyue was intercepted by the police before he left the village. They took him back to his home and ransacked it, but they did not find anything.
On the same day, the homes of Ms. Wei Shubin and Ms. Hao Jinjia were ransacked. The police found several booklets of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party in Ms. Hao's home. They found Falun Gong books in Ms. Wei's home and she was taken away.
The police also went to practitioner Ms. Zhang Yufeng's home in Dongguo Town, but they did not find anything except a color calendar. They left disappointed.
Confiscated items from the practitioners homes that were ransacked by the police included two notebook computers, two VCD players, one CD writer, one inkjet printer, one TV, three satellite dishes and receivers, many Falun Gong DVDs/VCDs and books, several MP3 players, and 850 yuan in cash. The total value was over 30,000 yuan.
On March 6, 2008, Ms. Wang Chunling and Mr. Wang Biao were released. However, they were brought back to the police station the next day for further interrogation. To avoid further persecution they did not go back home after they were released. Ms. Wei Shubin was released on the same day she was arrested. On March 6, 2008, she was arrested again and taken to the detention center. On March 10, 2008, she was taken to a brainwashing center in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. On March 11, 2008, Mr. Wang Jianquan and Mr. Wang Jianqi were sentenced to three years and two years of forced labor respectively at Benxi Forced Labor Camp. Currently, practitioners Ms. Liang Yufen and Ms. Wang Chunling are still unable to go back to their homes.
Mr. Sun Jian was forced to leave home and became homeless in 2002. In 2003, he was dismissed from his job. In 2004, he was sentenced to prison. In March 2008, Mr. Yu went to the local officials to demand that he be able to live on Mr. Sun's land. The village party secretary told him that he didn't know when the land would be redistributed and he suspected that Mr. Sun was not a resident of the village. On March 23, Mr. Sun's father was told that his telephone was being monitored. Actually, the phone line had been cut because there was no dial tone.
