Previously healthy Ms. Lu Shuling was detained in late 2007. After over a year of imprisonment, forced labor, and torture she was released in a mentally disoriented state.

Ms. Lu Shuling Develops Mental Disorder After Torture at the Hefei Women's Forced Labor Camp

On February 28, 2009, personnel at the Hefei Women's Forced Labor Camp informed Ms. Lu Shuling's family that Lu Shuling had schizophrenia, and requested that they come and get her. When she got home on March 1, she did not even recognize her own daughter.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Lu Shuling, from Dangshan County, Anhui Province, was arrested by the police from Bengbu, Anhui Province, while traveling by train on October 20, 2007. She was first detained at Bengbu Railroad Detection Center, and then sent to the Hefei Women's Forced Labor Camp.

Falun Gong practitioners detained in the Second Team of Hefei Women's Forced Labor Camp were made to work in the workshop from 5:00 a.m. until past 9:00 p.m. every day. The workshop previously manufactured various types of paper handbags, then changed to making umbrellas and umbrella stands. Since April 2008, practitioners in the labor camp have been forced to manufacture computer connecting wires. The workshop is on the first floor, but is not visible from the outside because it is surrounded by high perimeter walls. In summer, there is a toxic smell everywhere in the workshop, but prison wardens in the labor camp disregard the workers' safety to make high profits.

In the winter, after Lu Shuling had finished each full day of work, she was forced to stand until 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. Labor camp guards did not allow any of her family to visit her, and the prison guards even told tales about her to her family.

The prison guards didn't allow Falun Gong practitioners to talk, use the restroom on time, or leave stipulated areas. Falun Gong practitioners who refused to be "transformed," or refused to write "thought reports" were closely followed and monitored around the clock. The people who were assigned to monitor the practitioners were allowed to berate them, torture them, deprive them of use of the restroom, deprive them of sleep, and disallow contact with anyone. Every day, the practitioners are forced to "study" various "transformation" materials and undergo brainwashing.

Prior to Lu Shuling developing schizophrenia as a result of mistreatment, Fang Cuie, a Falun Gong practitioner from Tongling, was also brutally tortured and mentally tormented. Another practitioner, Ms. Fang, also developed mental disorders and was then released.

Falun Gong Practitioners Taken into Custody and Tortured in Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province

At around 8:00 a.m. on February 17, 2009, seven policemen from the Domesticl Security Team of Panzhihua City Police Department broke into the home of several Falun Gong practitioners in Zaoziping District. The victims included Ms. Yu Chuanchen, 55, Ms. Mou Jianchang, 62, Ms. Liu Shibo, 48, and a few others. The police ransacked their home and took their personal belongings. The practitioners were taken to the sixth floor of Dadukou Police Station where they were mistreated.

At 5:00 p.m., the police covered the practitioners' heads with double-layered black plastic bags, shackled their hands and took them secretly to the second and third floors of Jingu Restaurant in Xincheng County, Yanbian District. This place is notorious for being a base for Panzhihua City police to mistreat Falun Gong practitioners.

On February 17-20, the police continuously tortured their victims at Jingu Restaurant. They deprived the practitioners of sleep for a full 84 hours, hung them by their shackled wrists, and fastened them to a tiger bench for a long time. When practitioner Ms. Yu Qinchuan refused to cooperate with the police interrogation, officers Qiu Tianming and Duan Qing slapped her face with force. They shackled her hands and forced her up and down many times by violently dragging the shackles. They subsequently shackled her hands behind her back and hung her up in a meeting room with only the tips of her toes touching the ground.

At 6:00 p.m. on February 20, the police took the practitioners to Wanyaoshu Detention Center in Panzhihua City. During their detention there, officers Duan Qing and others took them to the sixth floor of Dadukou Police Station of the Eastern District of Panzhihua City. The police tortured the practitioners in many ways by shackling their hands and hanging them, slapping their faces, shocking them with electric batons, and fastening them to a tiger bench for long periods of time.

Those involved in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners include the Domesticl Security Team of Panzhihua City and the 610 Office in the Police Department of Panzhihua City. The officers involved in mistreating the practitioners include Qiu Tianming, Zhang Bailin, Duan Qing, Zou Yongjun, Huang Songjin, Gong Lin and others.
