  • Deaths of 98 More Falun Gong Practitioners Confirmed in July 2005

Clearwisdom correspondent Li Ming reports: the genocidal persecution of Falun Gong by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) and Jiang's group that began on July 20, 1999 has spanned six years. During those past six years, at least 2,739 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death. These cases have been confirmed through independent channels. At least 98 additional deaths were verified in July 2005.

Among these 98 deaths that were verified in July, 37 Falun Gong practitioners died between January and July 2005, and eight practitioners died in July. The demographics: 57 practitioners were women, representing 57% of the death toll; 47%, that is 46 practitioners, were older than 55 years. According to preliminary statistics on the Clearwisdom website, at least 308 Falun Gong practitioners died as a result of persecution between January and July 2005.

The 98 deaths happened in 20 provinces, cities and autonomic regions: 14 deaths in Heilongjiang Province, 13 deaths in Hebei Province, 13 in Liaoning Province, 12 in Shandong Province, 7 in Sichuan Province, 7 in Beijing, 4 in Jilin Province, 4 in Hunan Province, 3 in Tianjin City, 2 in Hubei Province, 2 in Henan Province, 2 in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, 2 in Guangdong Province, 2 in Fujian Province, 2 in Shanxi Province, 2 in Zhejiang Province, 1 in Guizhou Province, 1 in Jiangsu Province, 1 in Hainan Province, and 1 death in Shanghai. Because of the CCP's severe information blockade, the regions of another three practitioners have yet to be verified.

During the six years of persecution, the police and the 610 Office relentlessly persecuted Falun Gong practitioners under direct orders from the CCP and Jiang's group. The ages of the 98 victims range from 29 years to past 70. They were savagely tortured and mentally tormented simply because they persisted in their belief in the principles of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance, and tried to improve their moral character and become healthy.

Practitioner Mr. Yuan Qingjiang tortured to death on July 23 -- the third Falun Gong practitioner tortured to death at Daqing Prison in the past three months

Mr. Yuan Qingjiang was 41 years old and lived in Xiangfang District, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. On March 7, 2003, during the "Two Conferences" he was abducted and illegally sentenced to prison. He was sent to Harbin City Prison, where guard Zhang Jiushan, inmates Guan Dejun, Wang Shijun and others forced him to stand for 18 days without sleeping. As a result of the torture, he developed pleurisy and lost control of his limbs. He eventually lost consciousness.

On July 1, 2004, Yuan Qingjiang was transferred to Division 6, Daqing Prison. After May 1, 2005, Daqing Prison authorities intensified the persecution ofFalun Gong practitioners. More than tenFalun Gong practitioners held a hunger strike to protest the persecution and were detained in solitary confinement and forced to sit on the iron chair. Between May 30 and June 1, Yuan Qingjiang was tied up for three days. Perpetrators were Dong Fenghuan, head of Division 6, and the deputy division head. Dong Fenghuan personally beat Yuan Qingjiang until he vomited blood and his arms and legs were severely injured from being tied up. He developed cirrhosis and his abdomen and genitals badly swelled up while the rest of his body was emaciated. Yuan Qingjiang went on a hunger strike to protest the abuse.

The authorities at Daqing Prison refused to grant Yuan Qingjiang medical treatment when he was on the brink of death. He passed away on July 23, 2005.

After Yuan Qingjiang passed away, the prison authorities sent his body to a hospital and pretended to try to rescue him. The doctor, however, revealed the truth. Yuan Qingjiang's family has never seen his body, and the prison authorities are coercing his family to sign a document to agree to cremation. They claimed that his family would be "disrupting official duties" if they refused to sign the document and threatened to file a lawsuit. They also extorted tens of thousands of yuan from his family in the name of "medical fees."

    Wang Hongde

Yuan Qingjiang was the third Falun Gong practitioner tortured to death at Daqing Prison in the past three months. The other two practitioners tortured to death were Mr. Wang Hongde, 56 years old, an employee of the Xinhua Electricity Plant in Datong District, Daqing City, who was tortured to death on May 14, 2005 and Mr. Xu Jishan, 41 years old, former employee of the Furnace Building Company affiliated to Daqing City Petrochemical Company's Construction Company, who was drowned by five inmates under the order of prison guards on June 7, 2005.

The CCP has murdered countless innocent lives and Daqing Prison is only one of many of its agents of death.

    Xu Jishan

    Xu Jishan and his son

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Su Jingyan, 38 years old, from Liaoning Province was beaten to death by police, and then her body was thrown into a pond to make it look like death from a drowning accident.

Ms. Su Jingyan, 38 years old, was a skilled tailor, and lived in Tielian Village, Dashiqiao City, Liaoning Province. She obtainedFalun Gong early compared to other practitioners in the local area and was very diligent in her practice. When the persecution began in 1999, she was detained at a drug rehabilitation center, a detention center and later a forced labor camp for validatingFalun Gong. In early August 2001, she was sentenced to three years of forced labor. The police drove her and a few other female practitioners to Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province. Su Jingyan jumped off the bus when nearing Shenyang City and escaped the police. Penniless and barefooted, Su Jingyan clarified the truth to the people she met, and with help from strangers went back to Dashiqiao City.

Around 9:00 a.m. on August 21, 2001, practitioners Su Jingyan, Ma Suyan and Zhao Guiqin went to Lishan District to distribute truth clarification materials. They never returned. On August 23 it was learned that the police had abducted Ma Suyan and Zhao Guiqin and were holding them at a detention center or custody center, while Su Jingyan was found dead in a pond in Xiatun, Dashiqiao City. On August 24, the police told all village and township governments in Dashiqiao City that Falun Gong practitioners were distributing flyers, and when the police arrived, they only apprehended two practitioners and the other one escaped and drowned. As no one knew where she was from, the police publicized the information for local authorities to come and identify the body.

An insider at Jinqiao Police Department in Dashiqiao City who participated in the act and contributed to her death revealed that on August 21, 2001, officials from Jinqiao Police Department arrested her. She was asked whether she had distributed the flyers in Lishan District. Su Jingyan refused to cooperate with them. As a result she was beaten to death and her body was thrown into a pond to make it look like a death from drowning.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Lin Feng from Nanchong City, Sichuan Province brutally tortured for persisting in her belief

Ms. Lin Feng was 36 years old and lived in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. Police abducted her from home during the Chinese New Year 2003. The police ransacked her home and took someFalun Gong books and materials. They sentenced her to three years of forced labor and sent her to Nanmusi Female Labor Camp and later to Chengdu Prison in Zizhong County, Sichuan Province.

Because she refused to give up her belief inFalun Gong, Lin Feng was brutally tortured. When her family went to visit her the police told her family, "She didn't renounce her belief, even after we exhausted all of our methods on her."

Lin Feng was injected with psychotic drugs during detention, which led to pathological changes and also a nervous breakdown. Her whole body swelled and she could not walk. Her kidneys failed and she was at the brink of death. The doctor issued numerous "Notice of Critical State." Perpetrators from the National Security Bureau notified her family in June 2005. They forced her family to sign a document to relieve the government of all responsibilities related to Lin Feng.

During the 15 days of Lin Feng's hospitalization, some other practitioners risked their safety and went to visit her. They also checked on her condition. Lin Feng's body was black and blue and she said to fellow practitioners, "I don't have any intact skin on my body. The doctor told me I need blood transfusions on a daily basis or I won't live long." The National Security Bureau thoroughly monitored the hospital and constantly threatened the doctor and medical staff there. Lin Feng passed away at 5:00 a.m. on July 26, 2005.

Mr. Li Huazi and 29-year-old Mr. Cai Yong passed away after enduring horrific abuse

Mr. Li Huazi, 70 years old, lived in Xiyu Village, Yanglin Town, Hanchuan City, Hubei Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1997 and gained better health and peace of mind. While Falun Gong suffered persecution he remained steadfast. In March 2000, Mr. Li was arrested and detained in the Second Detention Center in Hanchuan by staff from the "610 Office." He was released after being detained for several months. In November of that same year, Mr. Li went to Beijing to appeal. Police arrested him on the way and locked him up in Shijiazhuang Detention Center. While there, he suffered brutal torture: the police hammered a row of nails into a wooden block, with the nails protruding one or two centimeters. They then punctured Mr. Li's palms with the wooden block and beat him relentlessly. Later, Mr. Li was transferred back to Hanchuan and sentenced to one year of forced labor. In Xiaogan Forced Labor Camp, Mr. Li again suffered savage torture, which resulted in him becoming extremely weak. He suffered edema and asthma. In spite of this, when his term had expired they still didn't set him free. Mr. Li thus underwent a hunger strike and was released in December 2001. Since then his health deteriorated steadily, and Mr. Li passed away on May 26, 2005.

Mr. Cai Yong lived in Suwu County, Heilongjiang Province. He went to Beijing numerous times to appeal for Falun Gong after July 20, 1999. He was abducted and detained, but escaped with the power of righteous thoughts. Before the 2001 Chinese New Year he posted truth-clarification signs and was abducted and sentenced to three years of forced labor. His wife was sentenced to nine years in prison for practicingFalun Gong. During the time he was held at Suihua Forced Labor Camp, Cai Yong was physically tortured and suffered severe mental torment. The perpetrators forced him to stand outside naked in the freezing winter. He contracted tuberculosis as a result, and passed away in late 2004.

Every death case represents a debt, and every such debt is like a rope that will be used to tie up the debtors and bring them to justice. Good and evil will eventually get their respective rewards or karmic retribution, which is a principle of the universe. All the debts that Jiang and his group owe during their genocidal persecution of Falun Gong will be paid, and that day is drawing closer.

Latest Facts about Li Jieming, the Orphaned Son of Practitioners Li Baoying and Wang Hong

Li Jieming is the orphan of Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Li Baoying and his wife Ms. Wang Hong from Dongchang Village of Changtan Town, Liaozhong County of Liaoning Province. His uncle no longer looks after him. We ask fellow practitioners outside China not to mail things to him anymore since he is unable to receive them.

Li Jieming, 16 years old, has quit school. It is known that he is presently staying at his own home alone. His father, Li Baoying, died on January 2, 2005 (lunar Chinese calendar) during persecution, at the age of 41.

His mother, Wang Hong, was also a Falun Gong practitioner. In December 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She was illegally detained in four forced labor camps (including Longshan Forced Labor Camp) for about eight months. During detention, she did not cooperate with the evil and was subjected to beating and physical punishment. After transfers to several other forced labor camps, she was sent back to Longshan again, where she received further inhumane treatment, which resulted in her having severe kidney failure.

During the last moments of her life, prison officials still refused to release her and threatened that her family members could pick up her body up after she died. She was finally released on August 22, 2001. Her body was covered with wounds. Wang Hong died on August 31, at the age of 39.

In Memory of Fellow Practitioner Jin Xiuqing

On June 29, 2005, thunderstorms swept across most of the southeastern regions in China, and rivers and lakes flooded furiously. Throughout central China, however, the scorching sun was hanging high, the vast land had turned into a giant inferno. On this particular day, she just left quietly without saying a single word, left this world, left her friends and relatives, and left this land that she loved so passionately. Without any justification, she died inside a small, damp, and sorrow-filled cell in the Beishan Detention Center in Fengcheng City, Liaoning Province. She, Jin Xiuqing, was a Falun Gong practitioner.

Ms. Jin Xiuqing (used to be called Jin Shu) was 60 years old. She was a retired worker from the Silk Factory in Fengcheng City. Before she practiced Falun Gong, Ms. Jin had been diagnosed with serious heart problems and severe enlargement in her anklebones. She had lived a miserable life struggling with her illnesses every day. In 1997, when Ms. Jin started practicing Falun Gong, she began to realize from her studies of Zhuan Falun that one could achieve mental and physical health only by having an elevated character. So, Ms. Jin started to follow the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance," and she changed her quick temper and many other bad habits as well. She tried to consider others first, and never picked a fight when dealing with conflict. She left her compassion and smiles to her relatives, her friends, her neighbors and every person that ran across her by predestined affinity. As a result, Ms. Jin recovered from her ailments and her heart was filled with joy and delight.

In July 1999, when Falun Gong was under attack throughout China, the practice had already gained popularity around the world. People everywhere honored Falun Gong with their utmost gratitude. Ms. Jin was completely at a loss as to what was going on. She started to reflect upon her practice experiences in the past few years. Based upon the tremendous changes that had occurred to her ever since she started practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Jin concluded: "I have been absolutely right to choose Falun Gong for my practice path."

Later, Ms. Jin decided to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. In October 1999, she was arrested at the Fengcheng City Train Station before getting on the train to Beijing. Ms. Jin was then held in a detention center. Inside the detention center, Ms. Jin still kept on practicing the exercises. As a result, she was forced to stand still or squat down for a long period of time. She had shackles on her feet. Her ankles were torn and blood oozed out. When Ms. Jin's family members came to visit her and found out how terribly she was being treated, they were heart-broken. Ms. Jin was detained for sixty-nine days, and she was released only after paying a fine of three thousand yuan. The local police officers and Neighborhood Committee members began to harass her often after she returned home. They also started to monitor her daily activities.

In August 2001, Ms. Jin was again arrested by certain members from the Fengcheng City 610 Office for posting a leaflet saying "Falun Dafa is good." Ms. Jin was held in the detention center for 6 months. She suffered a great deal both physically and emotionally, and her previous symptoms returned. Ms. Jin was later sentenced to two years in prison. The forced labor camp, however, refused to accept Ms. Jin because of her physical condition. Her sentence was changed to two years parole on medical treatment after her family paid a fine of two thousand yuan. Ms. Jin's pension was withheld completely. She and her husband had to live on his salary alone, and life was quite difficult for the senior couple.

On April 19, 2004, Ms. Jin had just had her dinner and was about to go downstairs to take a walk. Two officials (one was called Guan Wei, the other Cui) from the 610 Office suddenly came over and arrested Ms. Jin. She was taken to the detention center and pressured to give up her practice of Falun Gong and write a repentance statement.

With righteousness and solemnity, Ms. Jin said to the officials: "There is nothing wrong with my practicing Falun Gong and becoming a better citizen. You want me to change my mind, so what kind of person do you want me to change into? What kind of repentance do you want me to show? How come trying to be a better person is considered a crime?" Every time Ms. Jin was detained, she was tormented mentally and physically. She never forgot that she was a practitioner, and she would still treat others with compassion. When she noticed that some other detainees were sitting on the cold concrete, she tore apart her own cotton coat to make a blanket for these people. People around her all claimed: "Falun Gong practitioners are really good people." Even the guards started to say: "This old lady is really a good citizen!" Without seeing her being transformed, the authorities in the detention center would not let go of such a good-hearted lady. They started to interrogate Ms. Jin without any success and eventually, they sentenced Ms. Jin again to three years in prison. These authorities intended to send Ms. Jin to the now infamous Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province. Due to the relentless persecution, Ms. Jin's physical and mental condition deteriorated rapidly, and the labor camp refused to take her. About two months later, Ms. Jin was released from the center. Ms. Jin realized that she could prolong her life only through her studying of Zhuan Falun. She regained her health after cultivating again for some period of time.

The local police officers from the Fengcheng City National Defense Department and government officials from the 610 Office kept on harassing Ms. Jin. Around 3 p.m. on June 28, 2005, Ms. Jin had just come back from shopping and was about to go inside her home. Police officer Guan Wei and some others suddenly jumped out of their hiding place and grabbed Ms. Jin and took her to the detention center again.

After about ten hours, Ms. Jin lost her precious life inside the center. An innocent human being, a good-hearted lady who had merely persisted in her beliefs, was thus deprived of her last breath. During the five years of suppression of Falun Gong, Ms. Jin was arrested four times, and was detained for more than three hundred days. Her mental and physical suffering was indescribable.

Ms. Jin's family reproached the local government officials strongly for the death of Ms. Jin, and her body was kept in the local funeral home for more than 20 days while the officials tried to figure out how to deal with the incident. The Fengcheng City Public Security Department coerced Ms. Jin's family to yield and also offered the family monetary compensation. The family members fully understood that their incessant appeals would be futile under the evil regime, so they buried Ms. Jin with enormous sorrow.

Deprived of the Right to Defend his Daughter in Court, Wang Huaizhong Seeks Assistance from the Legal Community

A Shanghai Court denied Wang Huaizhong's right to defend his daughter in court. Wang is the father of imprisoned Shanghai Falun Gong practitioner Wang Yiyi. Wang has requested legal assistance from a Shanghai law firm.

Ms. Wang Yiyi, 32, was a senior manager in the Silica Gel Division of General Electric's Shanghai branch. On the evening of November 24, 2004, Yiyi was abducted by police while distributing truth-clarification materials in Shanghai. She was detained in the Xuhui detention center. On June 17, 2005, more than half a year after her illegal arrest, the Shanghai Xuhui Court organized a show trial for her.

Since Yiyi's arrest, Mr. Wang, a senior engineer in Dalian Tiancheng Construction Company Ltd., has visited all relevant offices and written hundreds of appeal letters to the government. He has exposed how the Xuhui People's Court has persecuted his daughter. Mr. Wang is demanding a legal explanation for the abduction of his daughter. The judiciary department, however, has been unable to provide any legal grounds for Yiyi's persecution.

The Shanghai Court rejected Mr. Wang's application to defend his daughter. Mr. Wang sent a letter entitled "Searching for Legal Assistance" to Shanghai law firms. In this letter, Wang revealed how Judge Lu Wenjia and his accomplices in the Xuhui Courts have violated the Chinese Constitution in trying Yiyi. Mr. Wang has presented strong evidence for his case. The courts under the Communist Party's control are a full fledged criminal organization.

Mr. Wang's defense statement and appeal letters have induced a strong response from senior officials and members of judicial organizations in Shanghai. As an ordinary citizen, Mr. Wang has used the law to expose the unconstitutional nature of the persecution against Falun Gong. The statement claims that people in China are awakening to the horrific persecution and are reassessing Falun Gong. Practitioners' selfless efforts in clarifying the facts have not been in vain. Truth, Compassion and Forbearance will prevail.

The following is Mr. Wang Huaizhong's letter:

    To Shanghai law firms:

In the trial of Wang Yiyi, Judge Lu Wenjia and the court he led have violated the Chinese Constitution. As the father of Wang Yiyi, I have filed grievances to the Shanghai Superior Court, Shanghai City People's Procuratorate, Xuhui District People's Procuratorate. I have also appealed to the Shanghai People's First Appellate Court. I am seeking legal assistance for the following case.

    1. Exceeding the 50-Day Limit for a Trial:

On March 18, 2005, Wang Yiyi was tried in the Xuhui People's Procuratorate. On March 19, Justice Lu Wenjia of the Xuhui People's Courts had notified Wang Yiqiang that he could hire a lawyer to defend his sister. The entire proceeding of this case, from the day the Court opened the case to the issuance of the verdict, took 3 months and 4 days. Clause 168 of the Criminal Law dictates that "In the trial of a case by the People's Court, a sentence should be announced within one month. In no circumstances should it exceed one and a half months." To the best of my knowledge, Judge Lu Wenjia has violated this clause in the trial of Wang Yiyi. Meanwhile, Lu also violated the regulation on time exceeding arrests and detention in the proceedings of the Procuratorate as set forth by the Superior People's Procuratorate on September 24, 2003.

    2. A Rigged Trial:

Around 9 a.m. on June 17, I saw an old man walk into the Court. The chief justice Lu Wenjia then announced that "too many people are here to audit the trial. I will issue only three audit permits." In the Sixth Court, Lu arranged for us to sit in the second to last row. The last row was filled by policemen in uniform or plain clothes. The old man sat in front of us. None of the newspapers, television stations, and websites in China report trials of Falun Gong practitioners, so how did this old man hear of this trial? There is only one possible explanation. Besides my family, all other people were there on the order of Judge Lu. This public trial was rigged.

    3. Announcing the Sentence Under the Table

Without informing me or my son, the Court requested my younger daughter Wang Yiqiang to pick up the verdict documents. Lu secretly declared the sentence, which is a violation of clause 163 in the Criminal Law requiring that "All verdicts must be declared publicly".

    4. No One to Defend Wang Yiyi in the Trial

At 9:30 a.m. on June 17, 2005, Wang Yiyi was not given legal representation. Her designated attorney Wang Huaizhong was not permitted to defend in the trial by Judge Lu Wenjia. Shi Haiming, the lawyer who sat in the defense attorney's chair, did not defend Wang Yiyi. A defense attorney must first apply to the Court and the Judge, who will decide if the applicant meets the requirements set forth by the Criminal Law to represent the defendant. Lu Wenjia told me that, "If you want to defend Wang Yiyi, you must have her authorization." Clause 32 in the Criminal Law also states that the defense lawyer must have the defendant's authorization. Shi Haiming, however, did not have Wang Yiyi's formal authorization to be her lawyer. Clearly, Shi Haiming does not meet the requirements to represent Wang Yiyi in court. Furthermore, Shi was appointed by Lu Wenjia.

    5. An Unjust Trial That Tarnishes The Dignity of Law

In the trial, when Wang Yiyi mentioned Falun Gong for the first time, the presiding judge Peng Tao interrupted sternly that, "Wang Yiyi, you are not allowed to mention Falun Gong in court." I objected immediately that, "You must allow her to talk; this is her right!" Peng Tao yelled at me "You are not allowed to speak. If you speak again, I'll throw you out of the court." When Wang Yiyi mentioned Falun Gong for the second time, Peng shouted "Wang Yiyi, you are not allowed to say 'Falun Gong'!" The state prosecutor Xu Zhenhui, however, used the words Falun Gong seven times in his statement, and Peng did not object. The court made it illegal for the defendant to mention Falun Gong in the trial of a Falun Gong practitioner. This action is against clause 11 in the Criminal Law that states "The defendant has the right to legal defense, and the People's Court has the duty and obligation to make sure that the defendant receives a defense." Clause 154 states "In a trial, the presiding judge should notify the defendant that he has the right to defend himself." Clause 160, "After the presiding judge announces that the prosecution and the defense have finished their statement, the defendant has the right to make a final statement."

    6. Lu Wenjia Conceals the Facts and Rejects Evidence

I am Wang Yiyi's father and her authorized defense lawyer. On May 20 this year, I submitted a statement of defense to Lu Wenjia. In the statement I discussed the four major flaws in the prosecution's statement and requested the court to validate the truthfulness of the allegations. In the trial, only the prosecutor was allowed to question witnesses, and the four major problems that I highlighted were not investigated at all. Lu Wenjia and the court he led did not conduct a fair public trial. This is in violation of clause 6 in the Criminal Law, "Judge with evidence and legal support."

    7. Depriving Our Rights

After receiving my daughter's formal authorization to act as her lawyer, I sent my son Wang Yiqiang to the Xuhui People's Court to apply fill out an application. On April 20, 2005, Lu Wenjia accepted my application alone with a copy of Yiyi's authorization letter. Within a few days, Lu Wenjia demanded that Yiyi's original authorization letter must be submitted. On May 9, the original letter was sent to Lu by express mail.

At 3:50 p.m. on June 16, I visited Shi Haiming in the Shanghai Nanpu law firm. I asked, "Can you read my defense statement in the court?" Shi replied "No, if you are the defense attorney, you must give the statement yourself." "Can you give me a copy of the trial notification?" I asked. Shi said "No, I'll contact Judge Lu immediately. You need to discuss the matter with him."

At 4:30 p.m. on June 16, Lu Wenjia and secretary Liao Jun received my son and me in the first floor reception room. I asked Lu, "Have you talked to the detention center?" Lu replied, "They requested me to send them a formal letter, but right now I am very busy. I have no time to do that. Have you brought your proof documents from your workplace?" I showed him my documents, and Lu kept a copy. "I am the defense attorney, legally authorized by Wang Yiyi" I said. Lu replied, "Shi is also the defense attorney." "Clause 39 in the Criminal Law dictates that the defendant has the right to appoint his own lawyer. You have the power to deny me to be the defense lawyer, but Shi works for us, and we have the right to terminate our contract with her immediately." Lu answered, "That is not permitted. There can be one or two defense lawyers, and Shi will be one of them." Lu claimed that he has to report to his superiors immediately.

At 9:20 a.m. on June 17, judge Lu Wenjia brought up a 2003 document by the Shanghai Superior People's Court and told me that, "You do not meet the requirements outlined in this document and are not allowed to be the defense lawyer." I objected, "This is not a legal document, and it has no legal basis. I cannot accept it."

Lu Wenjia has violated the following laws:

I am a senior engineer in the Dalian Tiancheng Construction Company Pte. Ltd. I have worked on trials involving up to 240 million dollars, so I have a fairly good understanding of the law. As the consignee, I have appeared in the Liaoning Province Superior People's Courts, Beijing Supreme People's Courts for trial. With Wang Yiyi's authorization letter, I am fully authorized to defend for her in the court. Lu Wenjia has deprived my right to appear in court represent Wang Yiyi. Lu also denied Yiyi the right to her own lawyer. Lu violated the first regulation in clause 238 in the Criminal Law and has infringed upon citizenship rights of my daughter and me.

Lu Wenjia denied us the right to terminat our contract with Shi Haiming. This is in violation of clause 410 of the Contractual Law, "the individual or someone authorized by the individual has the right to terminate the contract with the lawyer at any time."

Lu Wenjia and the court he led did not obtain information from the Dalian City Renmin Road Police Station or my workplace, so they falsely claimed that I do not meet the requirements to be a defense lawyer? Lu Wenjia is a liar. His use of the 2003 document is in violation of Clause 33 of the People's Courts Organization Law that states "The People's Superior Court must clearly explain the use of laws and legal actions in trials."

    8. My requests are as follows:

    1. Acquit Wang Yiyi.
    2. Investigate Lu Wenjia and the court he led regarding the case of illegal sentencing of Wang Yiyi.

I hope that you can offer legal assistance. Please contact me at: 011-860-411-83682810

    Sincerely,

    Wang Huaizhong

Practitioner Xing Jiaqiu Tortured by Guards and Inmates in Shenyang Prison

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xing Jiaqiu from Gangtun Town, Lianshan District, Huludao City in Liaoning Province was arrested and sentenced to prison because he practices Falun Gong. He was beaten by guards and inmates at the Third Prison of Shenyang City. Mr. Xing is now being detained in the First Section, The First Prison of Shenyang City. He was recently sent to the "Closely Monitored Section" for further persecution.

    Falun Gong practitioner Xing Jiaqiu

Mr. Xing Jiaqiu, 30 years old, is a farmer from Xingtun, Zhangjiagou Village. Since 1996, when he started practicing Falun Gong, his family life has been happy and harmonious. His wife, father-in-law, and mother-in-law are also practitioners. However, since July 1999, when the brutal persecution of Falun Gong started, the Xing family has not had one peaceful day. They have continuously suffered from brutal persecution from government officials, and the local police constantly harass them. On June 4, 2001, Mr. Xing and his wife were forced to become homeless. His son, who was born at the end of 1999, has been separated from his parents for over 6 years, and is living with his grandparents.

On May 28, 2002, when Xing Jiaqiu and another practitioner were distributing truth clarifying materials at Hongluoshan, the local police arrested them. After the Gangtun police tortured them with various means for a few days, they were sent to Huludao City Detention Center. In June, they were secretly sentenced to 6 years in prison. On the afternoon of August 27, the two practitioners were taken to Nanshan Prison in Jizhou City. In September 2002, Mr. Xing was held in The Third Prison of Shenyang City (formerly Dabei Prison, now located in Shenyang). Prison officials could not find any evidence to prove that Xing Jiaqiu was guilty of any crime, therefore they abused him physically and psychologically to try to make him "confess." Mr. Xing did not cooperate with their unreasonable demands at all.

When Xing Jiaqiu refused to recite the prison rules, the guards ordered the inmates to brutally beat him with a rubber hose, and then they shoved him to the ground and kicked and punched him.

A couple of days later, police officers transferred the injured Mr. Xing to the Second Section of Shenyang City Prison. Wang Xiaobo, head warden, and Officer Dong Lunshan instigated two inmates to monitor Xing Jiaqiu round the clock. His personal freedom was restricted to the extent that he had to ask permission to brush his teeth, wash his face, eat, drink water, use the bathroom, and even walk, and he was closely watched when doing these activities. Mr. Xing had to work over 10 hours every day, and if he failed to reach the daily quota, he would be threatened or verbally abused. After he finished his work, he was not allowed to relax and watch TV, or chat with others, but was forced to sit on a small stool until 11:00 p.m.

After the Chinese New Year in 2003, policemen instigated a prison guard to order Xing Jiaqiu to stand up and face the wall as a means to force him to give up his belief.

Mr. Xing had to stand facing the wall every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. He was not allowed to move, otherwise he would be beaten. Once, Wang Quan teamed up with other inmates, Li Suan, Jin Yongjun and others, and pushed Mr. Xing down for not reciting the prison rules. They kicked him with their hard-toed shoes, kicking his leg repeatedly, then continually hit him on the chest. Afterwards, Mr. Xing had difficulty breathing and felt suffocated. The next day, three of them asked Xing Jiaqiu to commit wrongdoings, and he refused. Li Suan slapped Mr. Xing on the face very hard, and he cursed him with obscenities. On the third day, inmates Wang Quan, Li Suan, Jin Yongjun and others physically abused Xing Jiaqiu again. Three of them pressed Xing down to the floor and beat him. Xing Jiaqiu yelled for help, but the guards ignored him.

Wang Quan and Li Suan said: "Scream all you want, we will beat you to death!" They were even more brutal to him. Mr. Xing could not bear the pain, and rolled back and forth on the floor. The inmates didn't stop until they were exhausted. Mr. Xing's leg was seriously injured and he could not walk properly. His whole body was black and blue.

In March 2003, before Xing Jiaqiu was fully healed, the inmates beat him savagely again. Mr. Xing went on a hunger strike to protest. Under the instigation of team leaders Wang Xiaobo and Dong Lunshan, inmates Wang Quan, Li Suan, Wang Mingtao, Wang Wenbao, Jin Yongjun and others carried out more assaults. Li Suan found a shovel, then the inmates pressed him down and took off his pants. They stepped on him and held down his head, arms and legs, while Li Suan brutally beat Mr. Xing's lower back and buttocks with the handle of the shovel.

Due to the severe pain, Xing Jiaqiu raised his hand to protect himself, but an inmate threw the shovel handle at his hand, and Mr. Xing lost consciousness. They beat him again to revive him, and forced him to stand up. By then, Xing Jiaqiu's hand was swollen badly, his palm was bruised, he could not move his hand, and he felt that the bones were broken. On the following day, Li Suan and Jin Yongjun beat Mr. Xing again because he could not stand steadily when he was forced to stand up. Li Suan hit Mr. Xing's injured hand, and Xing cried out in pain and fell down on the ground. Mr. Xing has suffered great pain in his hand ever since it was struck and he dares not move his hand.

These x-rays taken June 2005, two years later after the injury, show evidence of the broken left middle finger

On March 18, 2005, inmate Wang Wenbao beat Xing Jiaqiu again. Practitioner Liu Mingte tried to stop him, but was also beaten by Wang Wenbao, Liu Chen, Guan Yongbo, Zou Liming and others. On March 25, inmate Sun Yongsheng from the 12th Prison Ward hit Mr. Xing on the face. Later Mr. Xing asked inmates Wang Quan and Li Suan, "Why do you treat me like this, when I haven't done anything to you?" When in a good mood, Wang Quan said, "At our prison meeting, we were told to try harder to "transform" you."

Currently, Xing Jiaqiu is still detained in the First Prison Wardof the First Prison in Shenyang City, and his situation is serious. The team leader in prison reported that Mr. Xing was sent to the "Closely Monitored Section" for further persecution.

How I Lost my Eyesight at Jilin Prison Due to Persecution

I was sentenced to four years of imprisonment on December 1, 2003 and detained at the Jilin Prison. The prison guards tried to force me to give up practicing Truth, Compassion, Forbearance. During the cold winter, they would force me to sit on a bench for the entire night wearing only a shirt and long johns. The next day, they would continue to force me to sit on a bench. They made me sit straight and look straight ahead. I wasn't allowed to use the bathroom or move. The guards told the criminals in my cell to beat me when I moved my body even a little.

Some fellow practitioners refused to stop practicing Falun Gong. The prison guards then sent them to the "highly disciplined team." Anyone who was sent there would have a criminal record that contained the start and end dates of their term on that team. They didn't dare to record the torture they inflicted on practitioners. In order to brainwash practitioners, they transferred two people who had "enlightened" along an evil path from the Heizuizi Prison and Changchun Prison to the prison where I was illegally detained. The practitioners in the "highly disciplined team" had to get up at 5:30 in the morning and sit on a bench until 9:00 at night.

The most inhumane torture is called the death bed. The "bed" can be raised up. A person's four limbs would be tied to the bed. No one can stand it for ten minutes. Generally they would hang a practitioner on the "bed" for two to three minutes. They then asked the practitioner whether he or she would still practice Falun Gong. If the answer was a yes, they would hang him or her up again for another three to four minutes. Sometimes they repeated the torture four or more times. The person's muscles would be injured and he or she would become paralyzed and lose the ability to walk.

I suffered unbearable physical and mental tortures. On the day I was sent to the Jilin Prison, I wasn't able to see clearly. There is a rule saying a prisoner could receive parole for medical treatments if his or her eyesight is lower than 0.04. Four months after I was illegally detained, the prison clinic checked my eyesight and found that it was lower than 0.04. However, the Jilin Prison refused to report my situation to the related departments for my parole.

Later, I managed to write a letter to my family and told them my situation. My family then went to Jilin Prison and asked them to have me released on parole. However, the Jilin Prison refused to do so. They lied and said, "We have submitted his case to the Jilin Procuratorate. It has nothing to do with us as to whether they will allow it or not." When my family went to the Jilin Procuratorate, they found that the officers there didn't have my case at all. The officers said they would allow me to be released after getting my case and verifying it. My family went back to Jilin Prison. However, they said, "The eyesight checking results have expired. We need to arrange another check." They caused a delay until I completely lost my eyesight. My family went to appeal to the Jilin Politics and Law Committee and wrote letters to the Secretary of that committee. Eventually, that committee sent a notice to the Forced Labor Camp Administration Bureau which ordered Jilin Prison to release me.

I was illegally imprisoned for over one year before I was released.

Facts of the Brutal Persecution ofFalun Gong Practitioners in Wuling Prison in Changde City, Hunan Province

The outside world knows very little about the persecution ofFalun Gong practitioners detained in Wuling Prison in Changde City, Hunan Province. The following are only a few cases that have been revealed and exposed:

Mr. Zhou Zixian, once named Zhou Baoguo, was an official in the Hengyang City Petroleum Company. He was abducted in March 2004 for making truth clarification materials and was illegally sentenced to seven years in prison. He is currently incarcerated in the third middle team of the fourth prison district of the Wuling Prison in Changde City, Hunan Province.

Zhou Zixian has refused to submit to the evil people's demands, refusing to perform slave labor or accept humiliation. For this he has been repeatedly beaten by police officers and other inmates. In order to prevent Zhou Zixian from practicing the exercises at night, the police handcuff his hands onto the bed. They cuff his hands to the corridor during the day. Zhou Zixian was cuffed regardless of whether it was hot or cold weather. On February 12, 2005, because Zhou Zixian would not squat while lining up for food, a criminal inmate punched him in the face. Zhou's prescription glasses shattered from the blow, and the glass cut into the flesh below his eyes, bloodying his face and filling his eyes with blood. The wound later became infected and blocked Zhou's vision. In March 2005, at another time when he refused to squat, a police officer from the middle team singled him out and beat him brutally. Zhou Zixian's eyes were black and blue and his entire head was swollen. His facial features were disfigured.

The discipline team is even more ruthless. In 2004, Zhou Zixian was sent to the discipline team and tortured two times, each lasting for one month. They would cuff him onto metal doors at night, preventing him from sleeping. During the day, he was forced to do humiliating physical work that was beyond his physical capabilities. In the summer, he was forced to crawl with his bare hands over the cement floor without stopping. His palms were scorched and covered with thumb-sized blisters from the torture. During the winter, with hands torn and bleeding, he was still forced to do the same super-physical work. Even the criminal inmates said, "Zhou Zixian can't last through this; sooner or later he'll die here."

AnotherFalun Gong practitioner, Mr. Zhou Qingfeng, is an employee at the Lianyuan Steelworks Company in Loudi City, Hunan Province. He was abducted in 2002 for distributing truth clarification materials and is currently imprisoned in the second middle team of the first big team in Wuling Prison.

Zhou Qingfeng has been beaten up very often by the big team leader Sun Haiping and the middle team disciplinary educator Huang Qiguo for not completing his slave labor tasks. Sometimes he would even be hung up off the ground by handcuffs attached to his wrists for several days. If he was discovered to be practicing meditation at night, he would be cuffed to the metal door of his prison cell to prevent him from sleeping.

In December 2004, he was also sent to the discipline team where he was brutally tortured for not completing his tasks. In the discipline team, he was made to participate in so-called physical training. Throughout his imprisonment term, Zhou Qingfeng was beaten up very badly several times by criminals instigated by the policemen. Several of his teeth were knocked out and his chest was beaten until his lungs bled. He has suffered several concussions and has vomited and suffered dizziness quite often. His body has become very weak.

When he was unable to keep up with the demanding and humiliating physical exercises in the discipline team, he would be hung up with handcuffs on metal doors and a criminal would be made to shake the door back and forth. This is a torture method called "swing." It lasts for at least half an hour. The torture is extremely painful; Zhou's wrists would be badly damaged by the handcuffs, and his arms would be numb for at least a month.

After more than a month of torture by the discipline team, Zhou's body became very weak and he vomited blood, felt dizzy and passed out a lot. Even under such circumstances, he still had to do more than ten hours of slave labor making woolen sweaters every day and was subjected to hanging and beatings. His body has deteriorated severely and his life is in danger right now.

Besides these twoFalun Gong practitioners, there are also approximately ten other practitioners imprisoned in the Wuling Prison who are being subjected to varying degrees of persecution and torture.

Urgent Letter From Wang Xiuying's Disabled Husband, After She Was Abducted for the Fourth Time

Submitter's note: Wang Xiuying's husband is not aFalun Gong practitioner. Wang Xiuying's health was poor before she started practicingFalun Gong, soFalun Gong's effects on eliminating diseases and improving character were very convincing to Wang's husband. The following is a sad letter in which Wang's husband asks for urgent help. Wang Xiuying was abducted multiple times and sent to a forced labor camp twice. Then, when she was released and went back to work full time she only received unemployment pension as pay. Tan Ling, the head of the 610 Office at Xi'an Jiaotong University, and other people followed Jiang and the evil CCP to persecute Falun Gong. In the past few years, many practitioners among students and staff of the University have been abducted, sent to brainwashing classes, sent to forced labor camps, and/or forced to leave the school. Among them, the young university teacher Liu Mingkan was persecuted to death.

My wife, Wang Xiuying, is an employee at Xi'an Jiaotong University. Because she does not want to give up her belief in Falun Gong, she was abducted by a group of police from the 610 Offices of Xi'an Beilin Police Station, and Taiyi Road Police Station when she went to work on June 12, 2005. Her colleagues told me that she was carried away by the police, and that she is currently being subjected to brainwashing and mental torture at the Worker's Health Center of Chang'an County, Xi'an City. I have not had a chance to see her since she was arrested. I received harassing phone calls from the Police at Taiyi Road Police Station, and the police from Beilin Police Station. Members of the National Security Division and Taiyi Road Police Station came and knocked on my door intending to unlawfully search my home. I stopped them with strong words. I asked them, "Why did you take away my wife?" They answered, "Because she practices Falun Gong." I questioned them loudly, "What's wrong with practicing Falun Gong? Falun Dafa is good for health, and what's wrong with being a good person by following the principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance"? Has she done anything bad? I will fight with my life against anyone who intends to touch my home today!" Soon a crowd gathered around us and the policemen felt so embarrassed that they ran away and left me alone.

My wife is a very nice and honest person. Just because she practices Falun Gong, she has been abducted by the police many times and sent to detention centers and forced labor camps to be brainwashed for several months. She has been physically and mentally tortured in an inhumane way. Police from the Beilin Police Station and the National Security Division have been unlawfully stalking, spying on, and threatening us by phone. Her workplace also often calls our home. She and I are both nervous and frightened. Now my family is not like a family anymore.

I am a person with a disability (I only have one arm) so that makes it's impossible to take care of my daily life. It used to be my wife who took care of the family. Now I can't even get the cooking and laundry done, not to mention household cleaning. During these years that my wife was being abducted, detained, and persecuted from time to time, I often had to buy meals from a restaurant. I am a disabled person and my family has a limited income. My child is still a high school student, but because we could not afford the tuition and school fees, our child had to drop out of school and do some part-time jobs to support the family. I still remember the Spring Festival of 2002; every family was enjoying the festival, while I was wandering around on the streets alone. There was not another person on the street. Tears came out of my eyes, dropping down silently on my face in the cold winter wind.

After my wife was taken away this time, I called her supervisor at work and said: "She went to work like every other day, and now she has disappeared and can't be found. Has she been kidnapped by gangsters! What happened?" However her supervisor said he was not aware of this!

Here, I strongly request that kind and conscientious people lend me a hand to rescue my wife!

    Signed,

    Wang Xiuying's husband, Yang Huaiyong

Brief News from China - August 8, 2005

    1. [Jilin Province] Falun Gong Practitioner Cao Zhonghua Tortured in Jilin Province Prison

On June 10, 2004, when incarcerated Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Cao Zhonghua was writing a letter to a practitioner held in Gongzhuling City Prison, several criminal inmates beat him up. His face was bleeding and he lost two front teeth. The guards did not punish the criminals, however. They said, "You were missing two teeth before you were beaten!" Mr. Cao said loudly, "Falun Dafa is Great!" The guards gagged Cao Zhonghua with rags and beat him again. Mr. Cao lost another front tooth. The guards feared their maltreatment would be exposed, so they put Mr. Cao into the "Strict Administration Group" and tied him on a "Dead Person's Bed" to torture him for over 40 hours. Eventually, Cao Zhonghua developed heart disease and was sent to a hospital for emergency care. After 45 days in the emergency ward, the guards put him back into the "Strict Administration Group." They moved him late at night because they feared people seeing this during the daytime. After torturing Mr. Cao for over 100 days, the guards eventually released him from the "Strict Administration Group," after they forced Mr. Cao to guarantee that he would not report the torture to their superiors.

Other Falun Gong practitioners held in the prison were forced to work overtime.

They put him in the Shanghai Tilanqiao Prison. Zhou Lin, his pregnant wife, also a practitioner, was not put into a forced labor camp. Thus the newly married couple was separated. The officials did not release Mr. Geng for his wife's delivery. Geng Zhaojun's mother is also a practitioner. To take care of her daughter-in-law Zhou Lin, she came to Shanghai from her faraway hometown. Mr. Geng's mother was incarcerated in the Shanghai Women's Forced Labor Camp in 2001.

On June 26, 2005, police arrested the practitioner couple Mr. Luo Xiangjiang and Ms. Liu Fangping from Xiangtan City and put them into the Qilipu Forced Labor Camp. The couple steadfastly resisted the persecution in the forced labor camp. They didn't announce their names or sign the prison form, or put on the prisoners' uniform, or have their hair cut in prison style. Ms. Liu was eventually forced to cut her long hair. They refused to make 360 decorative flowers that the forced labor camp authorities required and went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

On July 23, Liu Fangping was released because of "insufficient evidence," but she had been abused so severely in detention that she is only skin and bones. Luo Xiangjiang was sent to the Changsha City Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp for two years of forced labor. One night at the end of July, a man from the forced labor camp called his home and said that Mr. Luo was "stubborn" and that they would take some measures to "reform" him. Thus his family knew that Luo Xiangjiang had been sentenced to forced labor.

    10. [Qinzhou City, Guangxi Autonomous Region] Li Guizhen Arrested for Distributing Falun Gong Truth-Clarifying Materials

One night in early July 2005, practitioner Ms. Li Guizhen, in her 60s, went out to distribute truth-clarifying materials and was arrested. Her whereabouts are unknown. Practitioner Ms. Baosiqin Gaowa, 29 years old, had previously studied at Heilongjiang University. The university expelled her after she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in October 1999.

At around 10:00 a.m. on July 21, 2005, local 610 Office administrators ordered six or seven policemen from the National Security Team to ransack Baosiqin Gaowa's home. Baosiqin Gaowa had been released from a forced labor camp about half a year ago. The reason for her arrest: Gaowa went to her father's colleague Liu Xiuqin's home. This person works for the Town government. At the beginning of the persecution, she tried to "reform" Baosiqin Gaowa, but after Gaowa clarified the truth to her time after time, she eventually stopped taking part in the persecution. This time, Gaowa brought the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and a flyer about quitting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to her home. As there was somebody else at her home, Gaowa didn't have a chance to clarify the truth thoroughly and Liu Xiuqin had some obstacles in her mind. The next day, she ignorantly handed the copy of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party to the Town Party Committee. As a result, Gaowa's home was ransacked. Personnel from the National Security Bureau found some copies of the Nine Commentaries and some flyers. The Party Committee attempted to arrest Gaowa at the time but they didn't succeed.

It is now the summer harvest season. After police from the 610 Office arrested Ms. Wen, the crops in her field were left without being harvested. Her fellow villagers saw this and called the 610 Office and petitioned them to release Wen Xingnu, but the 610 Office personnel found all kinds of excuses and refused to release her.

On July 20, 2005, fellow practitioners in the area took the initiative to harvest the peanuts for her. Wen Xingnu was not released until the next day.

They claimed that Li Hua showed her colleagues some Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials and clarified the truth to them. Later, they locked Li Hua up at the Switch Factory's hostel for one night. On the morning of July 16, they ransacked Li Hua's home but didn't find anything. It is said that Li Hua admitted she had clarified the truth and showed some truth-clarifying materials, and signed her name.

On July 16, Li Hua was sent to the Lianhu District Detention Center. The Security Section didn't notify her family of the reason, or the length of detention. They claim that they don't know when Li Hua's family members asked for this information.
