Zhang Yan - 张艳
(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Yan was a worker at Harbin City Radio Factory in Heilongjiang Province. She began to practice Falun Gong in 1998.
She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in February 2000 and was taken back to Harbin and detained for one month. In July that year she was detained for 20 days.
More than fifty practitioners, including Ms. Zhang, were arrested on September 23, 2005. The police confiscated four color printers, one computer, and 5,000 yuan in cash from her home. They never returned the money.
Ms. Zhang was sentenced to six years and abused in Heilongjiang Women's Prison. She developed high blood pressure, heart problem, and diabetes in prison.
Ms. Zhang filed a criminal complaint against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin in May 2015 and was targeted. She was arrested in 2016 and detained for ten days. The police kept harssing her at home after she was released. She was under tremendous pressure to give up her belief. She became mentally disoriented. Her high blood pressure and diabetes got worse and worse. She often fainted. She also lost balance and fell fom time to time.
Ms. Zhang was hospitalized at the end of 2017 and died on April 1, 2018. She was 58.
