Congressman Bob Franks
Seventh District, New Jersey
October 19, 2000
Dear XXXX,
Thank you for contacting me regarding your opposition to the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. I appreciate hearing from you.
Like you, I strongly condemn China's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. China's violent prohibition of this peaceful practice is in direct violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and even China's own Constitution.
You will be pleased to learn that I am a cosponsor of H. Con. Res. 218. This legislation expresses Congress' outrage over the horrific persecution of the peaceful public practice of Falun Gong.
This important resolution has been referred to the House International Relations Subcommittee on Human Rights, which will debate this bill before deciding whether to send it to the House floor. I look forward to the prompt passage of H. Con. Res. 218.
Again, thank you for sharing your views. Please feel free to contact me whenever an issue is important to you. I depend on your thoughts and comments to help me represent you effectively in Congress.
Sincerely,
Bob Franks
member of Congress
