RESOLUTION

SOS Rescue Walk Across Michigan for Falun Gong
October 8, 2001
WHEREAS, Falun Dafa is an advanced system of exercise and meditation that promotes physical, mental and spiritual health; and
WHEREAS, Falun Gong means "the Practice of the Wheel of Dhama" and Falun Gong refers to five sets of exercises done to Chinese music and involving lotus postures and hand movements; and
WHEREAS, Michigan Falun Gong practitioners have walked 221 miles to raise public awareness of the practice of Falun Gong in China by beginning in Hart Plaza in Detroit and passing through 20 cities and ending here in Muskegon; and
WHEREAS, this journey symbolizes the great courage, compassion and forbearance demonstrated by Falun Gong practitioners in China who have been persistent in their non-violent resistance to regain their right of conscience; and
WHEREAS, these individuals walk hundreds of miles to call upon the kindhearted people to "Open up your hearts, reach out your helping hands, and help the Falun Gong practitioners in China",
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Fred J. Nielson, Mayor of the City of Muskegon, do hereby recognize the walkers of the 221 mile SOS journey across Michigan for Falun Gong.
