Another Young Woman, Li Jing from Changchun City, Jilin Province Dies in Police Custody

Li Jing, female, was a 25-year-old student of Jilin Province's Professional Business College who had been detained many times for going to Beijing to appeal ... On October 11, as Changchun City policemen Li Haifeng and Li Zhuji from Xi'an Square Police Station were escorting her by train from Qiqihar City in Heilongjiang Province to Changchun City in Jilin Province, her young life ended at a location 80 kilometers from Qiqihar City. Police claimed that Li Jing died from jumping out of the train. Details are under investigation.

International Education Development has followed the topic of terrorism and human rights for many years and we welcomed the appointment of the Sub-Commission' Special Rapporteur Mme. Koufa in 1996. ... We strongly agree with the Special Rapporteur that State terrorism in the form of government terror against its own people -- what she calls "terrorism from above" -- produces far more gross violations of human rights than any other form of terrorism. ...When a regime resorts to State terrorism, the international community can expect to be overwhelmed with cases under the international mechanisms and swamped with persons seeking asylum from that regime. Such is the case in China with the regime' violent assault on practitioners of Falun Gong.

BEIJING (AP)--The Falun Gong spiritual [group] said Friday it suspected China was using fears of anthrax to further a smear campaign against it.

China' Foreign Ministry said a letter containing "suspicious substances" and publicity materials about Falun Gong, which is banned in China, was received Tuesday by an employee of a U.S. firm in China.
