1. [China] China's Finance Department Covers Up How Jiang Zemin and His Associates Exploit Detainees

A report issued by China's Finance Department in October 2001, Financial Statistics 2001 No.11, "The Notice from the Finance Department on the 2001 Account Sheet of Enterprises," includes the account sheet of labor camps and prisons. Their explanation to the related offices is as follows: records of products made in prisons and labor camps cannot be made public because it involves human rights issues, which attracts world attention. The department requires the related offices to use "55 and others" on the cover of the account sheets from those places. In the instructions of "2000 Account Sheet of Enterprises," there is an explanation of "55 and others." This code is exclusively used by the enterprises of prisons and labor camps.

As is known to all, prisons and labor camps are part of the state machine. They are not enterprises, nor are they responsible for turning out products. The Jiang Zemin administration is making money by using the unpaid labor. The workload is intentionally overly intense, which is meant to be physical and mental torture to the detainees. On the other hand, they are deceiving the world to avoid scrutiny by the human rights organizations. We hope the world will pay attention to this matter.

3. [Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province] People Witness the Violence of the Police

On November 29, 2001, I went to the market in the town of Mengyang in Pengzhou City. In the seed store of the grocery section, I found about ten people talking about cultivation practice. They said something about how Falun Gong teaches people to be good, how you look within yourself to find the attachment and eliminate it so as to continually improve. I was attracted to their conversation and felt that they were very reasonable.

Just then a group of people from government offices and the police station came in, some of whom I knew. They just closed the door and started to beat those people. They finally opened the door after they felt they had beaten them enough. They tied the owner and other people in the store together with rope, including elderly people in their 60's. They took them to the town government building, closed the door and gave them another beating. Even the party secretary of the town, Zheng Guihua, participated in the beating. Afterwards I saw that the store owner's eyes were bruised. A woman in her 40's was beaten so badly that she lost control of her bowels. None of them escaped the beating. It was said that they were going to be fined in addition to the beating. Many people who saw what happened could not hold back their tears, but no one dared to say anything. At heart we all know that Falun Gong practitioners are good people.

Why did the authorities from the government and the police treat good people in this way? We all know that the officials are corrupt. They extort money from the people and use it to eat lavish meals, visit prostitutes, and gamble. The local authorities take Falun Gong practitioners as easy to bully, often harassing them on holidays. During the past two years, we have learned and witnessed much of the unjust treatment of Falun Gong practitioners. The authorities arrest and beat them at will, fine them heavily, and even parade them through the streets as if they were convicts. Meanwhile, the Falun Gong practitioners have truly followed the principles of "Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance," practicing "not returning the beating when beaten, not swearing back when sworn at." The practitioners are really good, just like what is said on their flyers, "Falun Dafa is good! Falun Dafa is the righteous way!" Why are all these good people being so severely persecuted?

Anyone with a good conscience will be against the evil conduct. We believe that "good will be rewarded with good, and the evil will receive retribution." When justice is restored, we are witnesses of the crimes conducted by the local police and authorities.

4. [Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province] Practitioner Lin Tianci On Hunger Strike for Several Days

Clearwisdom.net reported that Lin Tianci, a practitioner from Tianhe District of Guangzhou City was arrested by the 610 Office (an agency specifically created to persecuteáFalun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) again and detained in the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp. He has been on hunger strike for several days to protest the persecution. We ask all the kind-hearted people to pay attention to this matter and condemn the authorities in his workplace and the people in the 610 Office who are responsible for his detention. We call for help to stop the persecution and demand an immediate release of all the practitioners.

In December of 2000, 99 practitioners detained at the No.4 Group in Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp went on a hunger strike to protest the inhuman persecution, and they jointly sued Jiang Zemin for his persecution of Falun Gong. Female Practitioners Liu Juhua and Zhu Hong were taken away by the police to Shijiazhuang No.2 Detention Center for submitting the court papers. At present, the two practitioners are as firm as ever. 6. [Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province] Female Practitioner Yang Jianmei Sentenced to 12 Years and Transferred to No. 2 Prison in Hebei Province

According to reports, practitioner Yang Jianmei was sentenced to 12 years in prison and transferred on November 3, 2001 from Shijiazhuang No.2 Detention Center to the No.2 Prison in Hebei Province. When the police took Yang Jianmei away, practitioners in the detention center, including Liu Juhua (female), protested and sent forth righteous thoughts to stop the evil. They received further persecution from the police.

Practitioner Lu Xinshu is also detained in No.2 Detention Center and sentenced to 8 years. He has recently sent out an appeal. We call the attention of the righteous people of the world to his case.

7. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] The Latest Persecution of Practitioners in Penghou Street Police Station of Qiaodong District

The former director of Penghou Street Police Station of Qiaodong District, Zhao Qingxiang, had received retribution for his persecution of Falun Gong. Zhao Qingxiang died of a sudden illness in April of 2001, but the police there have not learned their lesson. In fact, they have become even more rampant. On September 28, 2001, they arrested Yang Xiaojie and his wife Liu Runling, a couple who had left home over a year ago to avoid the persecution. The police detained them at the police station for many days, trying to use physical torture to extort a confession. Yang Xiaojie was tied to an iron chair for 7 days and nights, but he refused to give in to the perpetrators. Currently the couple is being detained at the Shijiazhuang No. 1 Detention Center. On September 29, 2001, the police deceived female practitioner Zhao Xiuli into going to the police station. It has been over a month, and she has still not been allowed to go home. They sent her to a brainwashing class in Qiaodong District, where she was denied sleep for several days. The police took turns watching her. As soon as she closed her eyes, they would shock her with electric batons.

The Penghou Street Police Station not only persecutes practitioners, but also extorts money from their families. The amount ranges from 2000 to 3000 Yuan. (Translator's note: Yuan is Chinese currency. The average monthly income of an urban worker is 500 Yuan.) The money the police have extorted from female practitioner Zhang Rongxiu's family in Dongsanjiao has amounted to tens of thousands of Yuan. The same thing happened to female practitioner Zhang Shuzhen's family from Yuan Village. Another practitioner, Zhao Xiuli, also lives in Yuan Village, and authorities extorted over ten thousand Yuan from her family. The method used by the police is to detain the practitioners first. Then the police force their families to turn in money to pay for their meals at restaurants and other entertainment expenses. After they had enough fun, they would release the practitioners. After some time, they would come up with another excuse and detain the practitioners again to use the same tricks to extort money. The reason that Zhao Xiuli was sent to the brainwashing class instead of being released is perhaps that her family didn't give money to the police.

8. [Guanghan City, Sichuan Province] Record of Police Brutality in Nanxing Township

At about 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on November 20, 2001, the police from Guangxing Township Police Station of Nanxing Township, Guanghan City, collaborating with the Violence Prevention Team of the Guanghan City Public Security Bureau, searched all the known practitioners' homes one by one, confiscated their valuables and ransacked their homes. Local militia also participated in this blanket search. The practitioners refused to cooperate with their illegal actions, and nobody opened their doors for them. Taking advantage of their manpower, some policemen went into the houses by climbing over the walls and breaking down the doors. They took away all the Falun Dafa books that they could find. Other people living in the neighborhood strongly condemned their brutal acts.

9. [Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province] A Practitioner in the Brainwashing Center of Hebei Province On Hunger Strike for 20 Days, Still Being Tortured

Chen Ping, female, about 35 years old, was an employee of the Fourth Plant of Dongfang Heat and Power Corporation of Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. On November 17, 2001, policemen kidnapped her in Xinji City. She suffered fierce interrogations with cruel torture until she became unconscious, but they still did not let her go. Later on, in Shidian Hotel the police from the Political Protection Team of the Shijiazhuang Public Security Bureau tried to force a confession from her. Although they used all different ways to torture her, she did not give in to them (http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2001/12/5/16523.html). Currently the police have collaborated with her workplace and sent her to the Brainwashing Center of Hebei Province. In this center, they have tortured Chen Ping nonstop, denying her sleep for several days and nights. They attempted to use such a method of psychological torture to destroy a genuine practitioner's strong will. Chen has been on hunger strike and has not had any water since the day she was kidnapped in order to protest their inhuman torture and persecution. It has been over 20 days now, and the situation is extremely urgent. We hereby appeal to all kindhearted people to give your support to save Chen Ping's life.

10. [Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province] The Police Kidnap Dafa Practitioners

On September 28, 2001, carrying out orders from the Ministry of Public Security, Shijiazhuang City police kidnapped 7 practitioners: Yang Xiaojie, Liu Yunning, Zhao Lishan, Zhang Shijun, Zhang Lingjiang, Shi Yan, and Lan Qizhi. They have all been brutally tortured during interrogation. It has been further confirmed that Shi Yan was not imprisoned in Yizhong prison of Tangshan City. The details of his situation are unknown. It is not clear if he is still alive. We hereby appeal to all the kind-hearted people to give your concern to Shi Yan's situation.

A brief introduction to Shi Yan

Shi Yan, male, 29 years old, lived in Dongfang Street of Pingquan Township, Pingquan County, Chende City, Hebei Province. In June 2000, because of his firm belief in Falun Dafa cultivation practice, the Public Security Bureau of Pingquan County issued a nationwide arrest warrant and also went through the procedures to send him to a forced labor camp for 3 years. Once he was arrested, he would have been put into the forced labor camp immediately. As a result, Shi Yan was forced to leave his hometown to avoid the persecution. The police from Pingquan County, collaborating with the Political Protection Team of Shijiazhuang Public Security Bureau, went to Shijiazhuang City twice, attempting to arrest him but failed both times. In May 2001, he was arrested by the police of the Political Protection Team. With righteous thoughts, he managed to escape. On September 29, 2001, when he was on the way to Kaida District, he was arrested and sent to Dongli Police Station by the police who had been waiting there. They tortured him by hanging him up with handcuffs. He was then detained in Jingzhou Custody Center of Hebei Province. On October 10, 2001, he was taken away from this center. The police of Shijiazhuang City regarded him as an important "leader," and they were unwilling to let the officers from Chende City join in the interrogation of Shi Yan. They interrogated him in Shijiazhuang Botanical Garden, trying everything to force him to give in to their threats and promises. All these tribulations never shook his determination to practice Falun Dafa. Currently his whereabouts are unknown.

11. [Guanghan City, Sichuan Province] Atrocities of the Police of Guangxing Township Police Station

Since July 22, 1999, the police in Guangxing Township have followed the gang of Jiang Zemin and Luo Gan and used various ways to persecute practitioners, including heavy fines from several hundred Yuan to 4000 Yuan (about eight months' salary for an average worker in urban areas), detention, parading handcuffed practitioners through the streets, and brutal beatings. They used bamboo batons to beat practitioners until the batons were broken. As a result, practitioners were severely injured, and splinters of bamboo stuck into their flesh. In addition, they violently pushed practitioners' heads into water. They even ruined practitioners' barbershops, pharmacy shops, sewing stores, and small restaurants. Even the onlookers said that these policemen acted like bandits.

On November 2, 2000, Liu Yuangao, the head of the Guangxing Township Police Station, led policemen to a practitioner's home, attempting to arrest another two practitioners who stayed there. One fellow practitioner refused to cooperate and jumped out of the police car, suffering severe injuries. On October 24, Liu Yuangao led a group of police to search a practitioner's house. Liu found a 6300-Yuan deposit book and confiscated it.

At around 7 p.m. of November 20, 2001, Liu Yuangao and Wan Huachun again led a group of police to illegally ransack a practitioner's house. The practitioner refused to open the door, so Liu kicked it open. They took away her private letters, a box of crayons that she bought for her nephew, a pair of gloves belonging to her grandmother and Falun Gong exercise music tapes. They also attempted to take the practitioner away. This practitioner sternly refused their request. Liu even threatened to take away her less than 5-months old baby.

12. [Siping, Jilin Province] Five Falun Dafa Practitioners on Hunger Strike Brutally Tortured at Siping Labor Camp

We have been subjected to various levels of abuse in our attempt to escape the labor camp. Finally, after having exhausted all other means, we decided to go on a hunger strike to protest the unfair treatment of Falun Dafa practitioners.

On August 17, 2001, the five of us started a hunger strike. As soon as the authorities found out, we were forced into chairs by inmates and force fed with rubber tubes inserted into our noses. Three days later, one practitioner fainted while he was being brutally force fed and was sent to the emergency room. He was able to recover after several days.

Meanwhile, the remaining four of us suffered from injuries inside our mouths and defecated blood as a result of the force-feeding. A practitioner named Yang Huiyong was so traumatized in his nose and throat that they could no longer insert the tube in him. We were all sent to the hospital. A few days later, Zhang Chao and Wen Yingjia were sent to Jiutai Labor Camp, and Yang Huiyong was released for medical reasons. Two other practitioners were transferred to Liaoyuan Labor Camp, where they continued the hunger strike. The guards ordered inmate Zhang Cheng to choke them with a rope, chop at their necks with the side of his hands, force their mouths and teeth open with pliers, and force feed them with salt water and food. Then, the guards took over, shocking the center of their soles with an electric baton. They also slammed the practitioners' heads against the wall and hooked the sides of their mouths with their fingers, contorting their faces horribly. The perpetrators are Fan (first name unknown), Dr. Ao, Liu (first name unknown), Captain Han, Captain Li, and several others.

13. [Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] New Round of Brainwashing Classes To Start

More brainwashing classes are being organized to further persecute Falun Dafa, and some practitioners have been taken into custody. It was said that they are going after practitioners who practice at home, as well as those who used to practice but have quit. Many practitioners have left home to avoid being taken to the brainwashing class, and some are getting prepared to leave town on a moment's notice. Fellow practitioners, please send forth powerful righteous thoughts to eliminate the brainwashing classes.

In addition, Niu Xiaoqing, a female practitioner from Lanzhou City was illegally sent to a labor camp. She was taken away in September in Jinchang City and is currently being held at Pingantai Labor Camp.

The Lanzhou City Police, Subdivision #1 is considered a model unit in persecuting Falun Dafa. The following are the perpetrators: Team Leader Wang Jixu, Team Leader Wei Dong, Ma (first name unknown), and Zhong Biao.

14. [Sanhe City, Hebei Province] A Farmer's Family Brutally Persecuted by the Jiang-Luo Terror Group

Ms. Lu Chunfeng, age 40, is a resident of Xiaohuzhuang in the suburbs of Sanhe City, Hebei Province. She has two children. Her husband, Mr. Zhang Xiyuan, works in the fields, while Ms. Lu maintains the household chores and runs errands to make a living. Before learning and cultivating Falun Dafa, Ms. Lu was a very belligerent person, known for fighting with others and having bad relationships in the neighborhood as well as with her sisters-in-law.

In 1997, Ms. Lu was fortunate enough to attain Dafa. Although she did not recognize too many words, Ms. Lu kept every sentence of Teacher's words in her heart. She tried to apply Dafa standards toward everything she did. She no longer got involved in fighting or scolding others. She was so kind to others. Everybody said that Ms. Lu had become a different person.

After Jiang Zemin began persecuting Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Lu thought, "It is such a good practice and cultivation way to benefit people physically and mentally. Falun Gong is beneficial to the nation and the society. I have to reflect this fact to the government." With this good intention, she went alone to appeal in Beijing. Although Ms. Lu spent an entire day searching for the Beijing Appeals Office, she still could not find her way because she is almost illiterate. She ended up being arrested without any justification by the Public Security Bureau and sentenced to one and a half years at a forced labor camp. Ms. Lu was sent to No.1 Labor Camp of Hebei province on November 18, 1999. She refused to accept the unreasonable abuse by the authorities and conducted a hunger strike. After being tortured and abused for months, Ms. Lu was then transferred to a hospital for so-called "medical care". But her health deteriorated, and in June 2000 a feeble Ms. Lu was sent home. Her husband was shocked and dismayed to see that his formerly healthy and energetic wife had become so emaciated. Having very little strength from her depleted condition and from the beatings she sustained for 9 months, she strained to even talk.

Neighbors also felt terribly sad to see the previously active Ms. Lu in such a horrible condition. Fellow practitioners pitched in to help the poor family. Unfortunately Ms. Lu has not recovered and still cannot take care of herself. The family's heavy burden totally fell upon the shoulders of her husband.

What kind of drugs and injections or "brainwashing" methods did they use to change a formerly clear-headed as well as physically healthy lady into such a miserable person? An actively working and thrifty farmer's family has thus been ruined. A tragedy that should not have happened has befallen an innocent farmer's family.

15. [Hefei, Anhui Province] Female Practitioner Wu Xueti on Hunger Strike to Protest Mistreatment

Ms. Wu Xueti, a practitioner at Hefei City, was illegally arrested and detained in a women's labor camp. She has been on a hunger strike for more than a week. We hope that kind-hearted people will focus their attention on her situation!

16. [Beijing] The Jiang-Luo Terror Group Wastes Common People's Money in Conducting "Brainwashing" Classes

It was reported that the authorities in Beijing not only spend tens of millions of Yuan to construct a "brainwashing base" and kidnap practitioners into these classes, but they also pressure the practitioner's work unit or hometown to pay for the fees. They demand 13,000 to 26,000 Yuan per practitioner from the workplace.

The so-called "teaching assistants" join in to extort money from people. At a suburban area, the authorities invited former practitioners who have strayed from their cultivation from Beijing to be "teaching assistants" at a daily stipend of roughly one hundred Yuan. Local "teaching assistants" receive 20 Yuan a day.

17. [Sanhe, Hebei Province] Police in Yanjiao District Kidnap Practitioners

The authorities in Yanjiao District in the Sanhe City suburbs, Hebei Province, have been frantically pursuing practitioners who had left their homes to escape persecution. The police have also been closely watching, following, threatening, as well as deceiving the relatives or friends of the practitioners. For example, the County's Deputy Party Secretary General Mr. Zhang Zihua tried to threaten and lure relatives of the practitioners. He tells them, "If by this date, he comes back home, then I guarantee that he will not be sent to labor camps or jail. Otherwise, the consequences will be more serious." They also tried to threaten the elder son of the practitioner Zhang Deli to find and get his father home before a deadline, or risk foreclosure of his cattle farm.

The police did everything in their power to send agents to northeast China in hopes of capturing female practitioner Hao Yafen. On two separate occasions, they also sent Zhang Lianchun, a former practitioner who had strayed from his cultivation, to go to other provinces to catch a relative, Zhang Lianchun (Translator's note: the two names are translated the same, but different Chinese characters), also a practitioner. The Public Security Bureau has arrested many practitioners and sent them to brainwashing classes. It was reported that some of the female practitioners have been raped while in detention.
