1. The Detailed Information About Dafa Practitioner Qiao Xingxia
The medical history of Qiao Xingxia: female, 40, worked as a cutter at Jining City Second Plastics Factory (now called Toy Factory). Her family members include her husband, son, parents and younger brother. She was healthy, had neither mental problems nor history of mental disease.
2. The Experience of Being Forcefully Committed to the Mental Hospital
In the process of being forcefully hospitalized, Qiao Xingxia was detained due to publicly practicing Falun Gong. After 17 days detention at the Jining Detention Center, the police and her work unit pressured her family. She was sent to the Jining City Mental Hospital on December 17, 1999, against her will. On the third day in the hospital, the hospital started forcibly administering medicine while restraining her on the bed. In the first ten days, they administered one tablet per day, and then two tablets per day. She was detained in the hospital 22 days.
The victim insisted practicing Dafa regardless of any persecution she received. She was forced to pay 2000 Yuan [about $240, average monthly wage in China is about $60] for hospitalization and her family members had to sign the hospitalization document.
3. The Situation After Hospitalization:
The Hospital: the fifth ward of Jining City Mental Hospital.
The doctor in charge: head nurse Ms. Wang (no other details are available.)
Qiao Xingxia was diagnosed as mentally ill without being given any examination or tests.
The hospital never explained the diagnosis and the treatment plan to Qiao Xingxia.
The victim refused to take the medicine because she was not sick, but she was restrained, beaten and forcibly given the medicine. The nurse would not leave her alone if she did not take the medicine.
It was an oral medicine and the name was unknown by the victim or her family. After being given the medicine, the victim's mouth puckered, was dry and hot. She could hardly control her tongue. She could not stand steady nor walk, felt agitated, and had unbearable pain all over the body. She kept kicking her legs and erratically scratched her body. Her whole body was weak and limp after the medicine was given, her memory faded, she had a headache, lethargic sleep and felt anxious.
4. The Facts Regarding her Release from the Hospital
Her family sent presents both to the police and the hospital, worth over 6000 Yuan. The victim was released from the hospital on January 8, 2000 without any explanation regarding her diagnosis.
5. Other Dafa Practitioners Suffered the Same Persecution:
Lu Dongmei: female, 35, an employee from the Luxing Estate Development Company in Jining City, was detained in the same mental hospital with Qiao Xingxia at least two months. She could not walk and was not clear headed. She had similar experiences as Qiao Xingxia, which is mentioned above.
Li Fengzhi, male, 24, was an employee from the Jining Oral Hospital (he was fired by the hospital due to practicing Falun Gong). He was detained in the same hospital for a minimum of two months. He could not withdraw (or hold) his tongue and was at his last gasp of breath. Now he is detained in the Wangcun Detention Center, Jinan City, there is no further information about him.
Wang Jiming, male, about 40, was a worker in the Jining City Hospital for Infectious Diseases. He was detained in the same mental hospital as mentioned above for more than a month. No further information is available.
Shi Shuping, female, 48, was a doctor at the Jining Chinese Medicine Hospital. She was also detained in the same mental hospital, and now is detained in Wangcun Detention Center. There is no further information available.
Because of the brutal persecution from the Jining City police, it is very hard for practitioners to contact each other. We do not know the current situation of other Dafa practitioners.
