A Recent Experience and Some Understandings on Righteous Thoughts and Supernormal Abilities

Although I cultivate with my Celestial Eye closed, I firmly believe when Teacher says: "Dafa disciples have already been bringing their supernormal abilities into full play in Fa-rectification. For instance, while doing Fa-rectification, when the righteous thoughts are very pure, their supernormal abilities are comprehensively utilized. Moreover, with righteous thoughts in their minds many disciples are able to use them at will--whatever they want to use, they almost always have it." (What Are Supernormal Abilities)

Yesterday, another practitioner and I went to a park to practice and promote Dafa. We brought a small sign, some flyers and newspapers, and a little radio. As soon as we started the music, it jammed. Looking at the cassette, the tape inside was badly mangled. Keeping righteous thoughts in mind, I eliminated the interference with a calm mind, and at the same time affirmed to the cassette that it was very lucky to be able to be carrying Dafa music in it, and that I hoped it would continue to function. The tangled mess disappeared quickly and we started the tape again, with no further problems.

The wind became very strong upon our arrival, with powerful gusts I realized, after one flyer was blown away, were also interference aimed at disrupting our activity. Teacher said, "Actually, every Dafa disciple has abilities. It's just that the abilities do not manifest in the surface dimension, so they think that they don't have supernormal abilities. But regardless of whether they can manifest in the surface dimension or not, when a person's True Thoughts come forth, they are very powerful." (Dafa Disciple's Righteous Thoughts Are Powerful).

After setting up the sign and materials again, I placed a spherical protective shield against interference around the sign, radio, and flyers. The whole time we practiced afterwards, no matter how violently the gusts were, the materials gently tucked under the sign did not move, except when the predestined people stopped, one by one, to take them.

After practice, we sat and discussed some things, and along came a man whose mind was not very clear. He mocked my Dafa shirt and did some foolish postures, and proceeded to say some insults. I passively endured for a moment. Then, he turned to the sign, but he could not get closer than the distance of the shield I had placed there beforehand. He stopped, and took out a long key chain, and could still only swing it in a big circle that exactly traced out the line of the invisible shield! At that moment, I remembered that I should not passively endure. I realized that the person was not necessarily evil, but was being manipulated by a demon. So I focused my mind and sent out Teacher's Fa-rectifying verse (in Chinese), "The Fa Rectifies the Cosmos, the Evil is Completely Eliminated." The person immediately stopped and left without another word.

In these situations, however, as cultivators we must first look inwards to see if we have some attachments. As I understand it, if we do so and find a disharmony, we should quickly get rid of it and then eliminate the interference. If not, we should still eliminate the interference. As Teacher said "Of course, when we eliminate evil you should keep in mind that if you have the intention of showing off, have ordinary human fears, or have impure thoughts, you won't be able to achieve the goal." (Teaching the Fa at the 2001 Canada Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference).

Recently, it seems that many practitioners still doubt whether they have any abilities, or whether they could work, or even still viewing interference they encounter with a human mentality. As I understand, this is a major obstacle that absolutely must be overcome in order to keep up with the Fa-rectification. Teacher said "A being's level is determined by his xinxing. That is, when you use supernormal abilities your righteous thoughts must be strong. Incorrect thoughtssuch as fearing the evil, wavering in your thoughts when you use your supernormal abilities, or doubting whether they will workcan affect or interfere with the outcome of the supernormal abilities." (What Are Supernormal Abilities).

Also, a God would not be attached to results, and neither would great cultivators. "A great cultivator, however, is able to let go of his ego and all of his ordinary human thinking in the midst of crucial tests." (Position). Some practitioners wonder why the evil seems to be even more rampant, killing more practitioners, despite our sending forth righteous thoughts. They are worried about something or other. I think this is a human mentality that seeks validation for an action through a manifestation in the surface material dimension. As I understand, attachment to any result is an "incorrect thought" that will affect our righteous thoughts and the abilities we send out. Also, despite the evil being even more rampant in this dimension, the more powerful elements behind it is what is targeted and eliminated by our righteous thoughts, and those elements are actually much weaker and less in number every time we send the thoughts forth.

I feel that Teacher explained this principle, exemplified in our own cultivation, at the Western US Cultivation Experience Sharing Conference in 1999: "[...] You shouldn't worry. The more microcosmic matter is, the greater its energy is. In other words, the more power it has, the greater its bad influence is; it can control people. Whereas, on the outmost surface, the closer matter gets to the surface, the smaller its energy is. The smaller the energy is, the lesser its capability is; but the smaller it is and the closer it gets to the surface, the worse it becomes. And the worse and lower it is, the less energy it has. There is just such a correlation. Therefore, even though you have eliminated and reduced a lot of bad stuff and it's getting weaker, it may very likely appear to be worse [...] The parts that meet the standard are getting more and more. When they all meet the standard, it is Consummation of cultivation. This is the process."

Teacher told us long ago in the lectures in Guangzhou that (not exact quote; just my understanding) all the way until the very end there would be fundamental tests as to whether or not we believe, as to whether or not we can fundamentally enlighten. Let us all improve our enlightenment quality, remove our personal obstacles, and participate even more fully in the Fa-rectification process.
