New York, Oct. 17

Several U.S.-based democracy and human rights groups are calling on President George W. Bush to cancel a scheduled meeting with Chinese President Jiang Zemin next week in Texas.

John Kusumi of the China Support Network said Thursday, "While we continue to raise that call for the summit's cancellation, the (pro-democracy) movement is also laying plans to go to Texas and protest the visit."

A large presence will be projected, with organizations as diverse as Falun Gong, the Free China Movement, the China Support Network, and the Texas Fair Trade Coalition --"all pointing people towards a turnout for outrage directed against outrages in China," Kusumi added. He said, "The only valid reason to meet with Jiang Zemin is to arrest and remand him to the International Criminal Court, for China's ongoing crimes against humanity."
