Inside the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, under the protection of heavy security, a Who's Who of politicians and corporate leaders munched shrimp cakes and lobster while warmly greeting the 76-year-old leader of what is viewed as the world's biggest untapped consumer market.
Outside, hundreds of protesters came from around the world to call for an end to Jiang's [persecution of] Falun Gong [practitioners...]

Across the street at Seneca Park, hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners sat or stood on mats with their shoes off and quietly did meditation and other exercises to demonstrate the peaceful nature of their movement.
"Our message is, 'Stop persecuting Falun Gong right now,''' said Hubert Zhou, a practitioner who now lives in Vernon Hills. "This is a severe violation of human rights and it should be stopped immediately.''
