The UK national newspaper The Guardian published on 23 February 2002 a picture report "The week in pictures" which is a collection of the main events of the previous week, seen through camera lenses. The first photo it published was that of Falun Gong practitioner Alex Rostron who went to Tiananmen to peacefully appeal for Falun Gong.
The paper said about the photo "An exercise in spirituality. Alexander Rostron, an 18-year-old from Leeds, practises his Falun Gong moves after returning to Yorkshire from Beijing." The paper described that Alex was among 40 European Falun Gong practitioners detained in Tiananmen Square last week for protesting against the Chinese government' persecution.
