Jiang Zemin Faces Human Rights Issue during Visit to Germany

On Monday, the media in Germany paid a great deal of attention to China's human rights record. The leader of the Green Party (member of ruling coalition) has urged the government to raise questions about China's human rights problems openly and publicly, while some opposition parties have made similar requests. Nearly 400 Falun Gong practitioners meditated and demonstrated at Alexanderplatz (a famous Plaza in Berlin).

Berlin News: Meditating for Human Rights: Protests during Chinese President Jiang Zemin's State Visit

Human rights organizations likewise protested on the occasion of Chinese President Jiang Zemin's visit in the capital.

(Clearwisdom.net) April 8, 2002 - Berlin: The human rights organization Amnesty International (AI) has called on President Johannes Rau and the federal government to urge China's State President Jiang Zemin publicly to respect the rights of minorities in China. Last year the number of serious human rights violations increased in the People's Republic of China, the expert on China of the German branch of AI, Dirk Pleiter, stated in Berlin today. Jiang Zemin is to arrive in Berlin this afternoon for a six-day visit to Germany.
