Reported by Yunnan Daily on May 15 2002, a large colorful ring of light appeared at Shilin (or "stone forest") Scenic Area in Kunming City, Yunnan Province at around 12:30P.M. On May 14 2002, the colorful light surrounded the sun.
Eyewitnesses say the ring looked bigger than a soccer field. When the ring appeared, its position was just above "Ashima" (Note: a rock named after an ancient legendary lady who died fighting an evil landlord). Seen from far away, it seemed that "Ashima" had a hat that was a ring of light. Many visitors saw this special phenomenon. This phenomenon lasted about half an hour and then faded away.
