Dear Master, Fellow Practitioners and Friends:á
After I attained Dafa in 1995 in China I came to the United States in 2000. I witnessed the magnificent process of the spread of Dafa in China. During a high point in 1998, ten thousand people attended a Dafa experience-sharing conference in Dalian City, and ten thousand people attended a group practice in Shenyang City. I joined a group practice in the Capital Stadium in Beijing that was attended by 5,000 people, and an experience sharing conference attended by 3,000 people. Publications such as "Falun Dafa in Changchun," "Falun Dafa in Wuhan," "Falun Dafa at Qinghua University," "Experience-sharing articles from Beijing practitioners," and others, were widely circulated and their copies numbered several tens of thousands or perhaps hundreds of thousands.
Master started teaching Falun Gong in 1992. He personally taught 54 Dafa classes and about 20,000 practitioners attended them. Through word of mouth, from heart to heart, one person might "bring along" a thousand to an area so that the number of Dafa practitioners reached 100 million by 1998. á
Examples of Dafa's miracles and morally purifying effects are too numerous to count. I am lucky to have attended many experience-sharing conferences, and still remember many examples. I would like to share these memories with you.
One committee member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province suffered muscle degeneration and atrophy over half of his body. He had no flesh on his shoulders and the rest of the half of his body was just skin and bones. No medical treatment could cure this painful illness. But four months after he practiced Falun Gong, he gained 15 lbs. and recovered.
A patient in Hebei Province who had been paralyzed for eight years could stand up and walk after attaining Dafa.
An older, illiterate woman amazed her children when she was able to read the book Zhuan Falun after she attained Dafa.
One resident in a mining area had a piece of stainless steel implanted in one of his legs after he sustained a compound fracture. After he practiced Dafa, that piece of steel appeared to have disappeared and could no longer be detected in the hospital during a routine check.
A senior worker who was injured in nuclear tests had been bald for 30 years. After he practiced Falun Gong for three months, he grew hair on the top of his head. Half a year later, looking at his photograph that was taken 30 years ago, he looked even younger than that in the older photo.
An 80-year-old woman, a physician, couldn't go outdoors because when exposed to the wind, her skin would become uncontrollably itchy. After she attained Dafa, that symptom never returned. She even regained her menstrual period - coming once a year and recurring for three years. Her skin became rosy and she lived her daily life as though she were a younger woman.
Li Qihua was the former director of the No. 301 Hospital, a special hospital for high-ranking Chinese officials. His wife had been sick and the doctors diagnosed her as being incurable, but she recovered after she practiced Falun Gong. The couple then both practiced Falun Gong.
Though curing diseases is not the purpose of Master's Dafa, whenever a practitioner really practiced without pursuit, no matter what illness he or she might have, whether it is cancer, hepatitis, heart disease, diabetes or insomnia, all the symptoms of these diseases have been reported to be gone. One addict in the Xicheng District of Beijing even gave up his drug habit after learning Dafa, which moved his family members to tears.á
Purifying one's body is only the first step in cultivation. Changing one's outlook on life - therein lies the greatness of Dafa, attesting to the fact that Dafa made 100 million practitioners conscientiously resist the current of moral decay. It helped people to no longer be obsessed with seeking fame, wealth or be driven by emotions and not become polluted by a morally corrupt society. The principles of "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance" brought people to a realm of selflessness and altruism and they entered the realm of compassion for others.
One practitioner's husband liked gambling and lost a lot of money. The family was not happy. After the wife attained Dafa, she took good care of both their child and the family livelihood. She treated her husband kindly and also asked her husband to read Zhuan Falun. Seeing his wife's changes, the husband felt ashamed of himself. He gave up his gambling and the family became happy again. The husband also started to practice Falun Gong. á
An elderly woman was poorly treated by her daughter-in-law. After she attained Dafa, the elder woman kindly faced whatever her daughter-in-law did to her and wasn't moved by any unfair treatments she received from the younger woman. One day she returned home after practice, when her daughter-in-law poured a chamber pot on her head. But the woman remained calm and considerate, just like nothing had happened. Ashamed, and crying with tears running down her face, her daughter-in-law suddenly knelt down in front of her and said: "You are indeed a divine goddess."áShe changed her attitude and attained Dafa.
The owner of a Chinese medicine company had several mistresses, and several bad habits like gambling, drinking and dining at fancy places. After attaining Dafa, he gave up all his wrongdoings. He then drove his own car, equipped with audio and video equipment, into the faraway countryside to spread Dafa.
An official was in charge of awarding construction project contracts. After he attained Dafa, he no longer accepted commissions, nor did he accept any special treatment, such as being "wined and dined" by companies seeking to get the contracts.
In the ever more rapidly corrupt society of China, people are turning their eyes to money. But Dafa practitioners are pure and righteous. As officials, they weren't corrupt; as employees, they worked very hard and didn't care about their salaries; as students, they focused on their studies without being influenced by the bad social environment.á
In 1998, twelve students from different departments at Qinghua University were selected as graduate students without having to take the entrance tests. Nine of them were Dafa practitioners.
Dafa practitioners are among the best of best. Their stories of helping others and their contributions to the country are easily found everywhere. One can not find them breaking laws or hurting others even using a magnifying glass.
In 1997 and 1998, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security twice ordered a nation-wide investigation, to find any examples that Falun Gong practitioners might break the law, but they found nothing. On the contrary, many secret agents who had infiltrated into Falun Gong became genuine Falun Gong practitioners. They found that Falun Gong practitioners are truly good people, there was no inherent conflict for them to be an official and to practice the cultivation to become a good person. However, after the crackdown, they were willing to give up their positions in order to continue to practice Falun Gong. This result was far beyond the imagination of those initiators of the investigations.á
For example, two policemen in the suburbs of Beijing went to question a retired worker. A police officer asked, "As an old revolutionary like you, why do you want to practice Falun Gong? Don't you know that the Ministry of Public Security is investigating it?" The elderly civil servant answered: "My wife had liver cancer. No hospital could cure her, but she was cured after she practiced Falun Gong. Can you tell me whether I should practice it or not?" Hearing these words, one officer said: "I believe what you said. I'll practice Falun Gong myself." Another policeman said: "I'll tell my family members to practice." á
Such a great Dafa! So popular and welcomed by about 100 million Dafa practitioners and their family members! And yet it became the target of vile attacks. In 1996, the Chinese Central Party Committee's Ministry of Propaganda ordered major newspapers to attack Falun Gong. The Guangmin Daily published an article titled "Alarm Bell Keeps Ringing" to slander Falun Gong. The article vilified practitioners as na ve and stupid people. Correspondingly, it provoked many practitioners to write to the Guangmin Daily office. The office received 800 letters in one day, from Changchun City alone. There were so many letters to the office that had to be carried in gunnysacks. Beijing practitioners also visited the Guangmin Daily office in Beijing to clarify the truth. The office had to send its staff to talk to practitioners. The body-and-mind purification effects of Dafa and the benevolent attitude of Dafa practitioners surprised the clerks in the office. They got to know that Dafa was great, and Dafa practitioners were good people. Many newspapers felt lucky that they were not involved in a wrongful attack on Falun Gong.
Xin Ping, the author of the damaging article, "Alarm Bell Keeps Ringing," took the lead to fabricate lies to vilify Falun Gong, hurt the nation and it's people and destroyed the happiness of his own family as well. His daughter, daughter-in-law and son were all Dafa practitioners, and they suffered a lot in the persecution of Falun Gong after July 20, 1999.
His daughter, Yu Jia, was a teacher in the Institute of Economics and Management at Qinghua University. She was detained for one month, due to going to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Dafa. For five and half days she was handcuffed behind her back and left without any food or permitted to sleep; her wrists were badly injured. She was later jailed and beaten many times for practicing Falun Gong at the campus of Qinghua University. She was illegally arrested on November 27, 2000, and was secretly sentenced to three and half years in jail.á
His daughter-in-law, Zhu Tong, holder of a master's degree, worked for the Microelectronics Institute at Qinghua University. Policemen badly beat her when she appealed for Falun Gong at the Tiananmen Gate Tower. She was arrested and jailed in the No. 7 Branch of Beijing Police Department, and was illegally sentenced to one and half a years in jail, where she was brutally tortured. After serving her jail term and getting back home, she published her solemn declaration to continue practicing Falun Gong. She was forced to leave home to avoid being arrested. Her whereabouts are unknown.á
His son worked for a foreign company and was also beaten for going to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Dafa. His home was searched and he was detained.
Echoing the article in the Guangmin Daily, the News and Publication Bureau ordered a ban on the publication and circulation of Dafa books. These orders were definitely against the Chinese Constitution, and also against the will of countless citizens. Six veteran practitioners, including Li Chang, wrote a letter to the Central Party Committee to appeal for Falun Gong. The letter indicated that the facts and the law should be the basis for fair judgment. Anything against the Constitution and the people's will should be prohibited. The Ministry of Propaganda did not dare make the letter public. Instead, the group that was organized to find faults in Falun Gong could not find a single topic for critique and was afraid of being turned into a Dafa study group. The government still had no legal basis for the ban on Dafa books. It has been facing to be sued on charges of being anti-constitutional, of having trumped up charges, making up lies and trouble, and others.
Falun Dafa is the great, righteous law, and Dafa practitioners can cultivate to have such purified hearts with righteous thoughts and behaviors. No kind of persecution can change this pure heart.á
Gao Qiuju of Dalian City Dafa Assistance Center was arrested after July 20, 1999 and was forced to do heavy physical labor during the day and was tortured and interrogated at night. Much of her hair was pulled out. After 12 days of torture, her face still glowed with health. Astonished, the policemen said she was not a common person and they had never seen someone like her in this world.á
Cao Kai, a Ph.D. candidate from the Biology Institute of the China Science Academy and his wife both went to appeal for Falun Gong, and both were arrested. Their baby died for lack of care. After being released, Cao Kai was forced to quit his graduate study and was forced out of his dormitory. His wife went back to her mother's home. Cao Kai went to Shanghai and Hainan Province to tell people the truth of Falun Gong, and was arrested again and detained in the Qinghe Detention Center in Beijing. The last news we heard was that he went on a hunger strike for 90 days and never changed his belief in Dafa. á
Wang Jiuchun, female, a Falun Gong assistant at the Qinghua University practice site was an associate professor at Qinghua University. After July 20, 1999 she was under house arrest. Under pressure from Vice Premier, Li Lanqing, a dozen party committee members were assigned to brainwash her, in a similar way they brainwashed Ph.D. student Li Yixiang. [Who's story has been mentioned in several articles in Minghui website.] Under this pressure, she wrote some words against her conscience. Later, when she indicated she would keep on practicing Falun Gong, she was confined again for a second isolated persecution. Later, she realized her mistake and made a declaration on the Minghui website to expose the mental torture applied to her. She was arrested by people from the No. 4 Branch of Beijing Police Department, and was sent to the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp where Zhao Min was jailed. Hao Jiafeng, female, an associate professor at Beijing University and one of the representatives who went to Zhongnanhai in the April 25, 1999 event, was also arrested. Jiang hoped to use the above two people as models for the so-called "transformation" with their forced brainwashing. The two practitioners' firm belief and resistance to arrests and persecution have proved that "Coercion Cannot Change People's Hearts." Jiang and Li Lianqing's "transformation" failed completely.á
Li Baoqing, a Ph.D. advisor, a research scientist in the China Academy of Science and also a major leader of key national projects, published a solemn declaration to show his determination to practice Dafa after being forcefully brainwashed. He was arrested again. His wife, Liu Jinhang, was also illegally sentenced to three years in jail for exposing the evil persecution against Falun Gong.
Wan Youqun, who played a major role in the Central Party Committee Policies Research Center, wrote an article titled, "Falun Dafa has one hundred benefits for the Country and the People, and Harms No One" and sent it to the Chinese Central Committee. Since then he was suffering the persecution and was put under house arrest.
Yu Changxin, a professor at the Air-force Command Institute, a hero for outstanding service to the country, was secretly sentenced to a seventeen-year jail term for his steadfast belief in Falun Dafa.
This year is the 10th Anniversary of Master bringing Dafa to the world. The above stories are some of the facts I know about the splendid growth of Dafa and the evil persecution against Dafa. These stories demonstrate that Dafa practitioners have steadfast belief in Dafa. They are fearless and have compassionate, righteous thoughts. They have persisted in Fa study, in sending forth righteous thoughts and tell people the truth of Dafa under huge pressures. Thanks to our great Master, the magnificent Dafa created Dafa practitioners' diamond-like unshakeable will and mighty virtue.á
